However, let's give free rein to patriotic notes in our hearts and start our review with the brainchild of American and domestic manufacturers - the Chevrolet Niva crossover. Of course, many mention the fact that it is classified as a compact SUV. But let's be honest: it is unlikely that he can confidently replenish the lineup of such cars as Toyota Sequoia, Land Cruiser Defender, Range Rover, Chevrolet Tahoe and many other "heavyweights". Rather, it fits neatly into a category that encompasses light and compact SUVs.
Initially, the VAZ-2121 (aka Niva) was a domestic-made car, on which a resident of a village or a small town could appear in a metropolis without any shame or embarrassment. The current Chevrolet Niva is completely different. This is a compact urban SUV that has a universal paint job, alloy wheels, prominent bumper lines. Tellingly, there are practically no flaws in the appearance of the car. The quality of body painting is very, very decent, and the gaps between the body panels are uniform. The doors close very quietly and easily - you do not need to slam the door with all your might in order for the lock to work.
The Chevrolet Niva is no less good from the inside. The build quality is confirmed by the fact that, nevertheless, an SUV of American blood - all elements are carefully fitted to each other, look very neat, concise and do not make sounds when driving. The front panel of the car is covered with plastic, pleasant and soft to the touch. The car seats are upholstered in soft fabric. The model range of the SUV provides for several interior colors.
What can you say about the technical characteristics? They are certainly excellent, as for a domestically produced car. And if the Chevrolet Niva in urban conditions is no different from an ordinary sedan, then in off-road conditions, all its “off-road” potential is fully revealed. Chevrolet Niva crossovers have good dynamic characteristics and increased cross-country ability due to high ground clearance and all-wheel drive.
Of course, the Chevrolet Captiva is 100% an SUV with an American heart. But with a rather unusual appearance for the same "Americans". In the domestic market, the car was introduced back in 2006 and after some time acquired an updated design. It should be noted that the absence of the characteristic angularity and deliberate roughness of body shapes, which is inherent in all cars from the USA, became possible due to the fact that the Korean division of General Motors was involved in the design. Nevertheless, the Chevrolet Captiva turned out to be quite large and roomy, like its close “relatives” from the USA. In general terms, it is very similar to another SUV from the United States - the Chevrolet Blazer.
In addition to the fact that the external design of the car began to look more like European cars (in fact, manufacturers focused on the European market), the Chevrolet Captiva began to be equipped with more economical and modern engines. The appearance of the SUV is very reminiscent of the models of the German car industry - dig a little deeper and you will surely see some similarities with the previous generation VW Touareg or Audi Q7.
The car is equipped with the latest technology. The model range provides a huge number of sensors and a variety of sensors in all trim levels. As befits SUVs, the Chevrolet Captiva has a very spacious interior - the rear seats can comfortably accommodate three people, and two people can accommodate as comfortably as in an executive class sedan. In principle, Captiva is a seven-seat SUV, but the third row of seats is unlikely to be very comfortable for passengers. The interior of the car is surprisingly simple and concise - there is no dashboard, as on passenger airliners. And this significantly improves the ergonomics of the entire cabin.
Of course, the Chevrolet Captiva is not the best off-road conqueror in the world, but in this respect it has good potential. The SUV has an impressive ground clearance (the same as the Niva) and additional electronic control systems in off-road conditions, thanks to which the car can safely climb even steep slopes and drive out of relatively deep pits. A number of engines installed on the Captiva allows the motorist to choose both more economical options and almost truly American volumes.
So we approached one of the largest representatives of the Chevrolet family. It can be said that this is true, both externally and internally, the American SUV. Why? This is evidenced by the dimensions of the Trailblazer, and its ground clearance, and large engine volumes, and increased cross-country ability, and incredible power. However, first things first.
The new Trailblazer models were presented at the international exhibition in 2012 and immediately attracted the attention of many car enthusiasts. The front of this SUV has a branded “face”, which is inherent in the entire Chevrolet lineup. The headlights are almond-shaped, and the false radiator grille is divided by a transverse line, in the center of which is a branded oblique cross. For improved cross-country ability, the front bumper is “cut” from the bottom and protected by a black plastic overlay. Protruding wheel arches and embossed body elements look very harmonious.
In general terms, the body of the Chevrolet Trailblazer inspires calmness and even some solidity, steadfastness. A flat roof with roof rails, calm and soft door lines, a high window sill line - all this suggests that this SUV is specially designed for confident and calm people.
Like the Chevrolet Captiva, the Trailblazer has a seven-seat interior. However, it is an order of magnitude larger and, of course, equipped a little richer. Even in the initial configurations, new models have a leather interior, climate control and other elements of increased convenience. It is worth noting that the front panel and the inner surfaces of the doors are covered with high-quality plastic. The car does not have Alcantara and mahogany - yet these excesses are not inherent in American cars.
The Trailblazer SUV has excellent technical and dynamic characteristics. It has almost all the latest innovative systems for easy handling in off-road conditions, and the design features of the transmission and suspension allow the car to easily pass even very difficult areas.
Here it is - the Big Brother of the American automobile industry in general and Chevrolet Corporation in particular. One of the most luxurious, most powerful and most striking American SUVs is the Chevrolet Tahoe. The history of the car begins in 1992 and at the moment new third-generation models have been produced since 2010 inclusive.
The SUV has an expressive and unique appearance. The characteristic angularity of the forms, the predatory “squint” of the headlights, the massive hood, the wide wheel arch and the high ground clearance cause admiration or at least respect from almost all motorists. For all its angularity, the car does not look bulky - the slope of the windshield and the special shape of the body significantly reduce aerodynamic drag, thereby providing amazing dynamic performance for the car and quite high fuel economy.
Perhaps this is one of the few American SUVs that has not only a concise and mature, but also a luxurious interior. There are also inserts made of precious wood, and chrome lining, and leather trim for individual interior elements. It is worth noting that all this together does not look too clumsy or tasteless. On the contrary, ergonomics and interior design are so well thought out that luxury is not striking, but at the same time it clearly makes itself felt.
Chevrolet Tahoe is American to the last detail. This is confirmed by the large volumes of engines and huge dimensions. Despite its size, the car has amazing dynamic characteristics and is able to reach high speeds in a short period of time. In addition, the SUV is simply replete with a wide variety of functions and technological features that make driving comfortable and convenient even in severe off-road conditions.
In 2013, the Chevrolet lineup was replenished with a new representative - the Tracker model. This is a compact crossover that successfully combines the advantages of an urban sedan and the advantages of an off-road vehicle. What he really is?
At first glance, you can see a striking resemblance to the Mercedes GLK-Classe. Similar body elements, very similar headlights and even interior features resemble a venerable German. Nevertheless, the car has not lost its individuality and there are elements in it that clearly indicate that it belongs to the American automobile industry. The car turned out to be somewhat "bloated" - again, a tribute to the European market. However, there are elements such as wide wheel arches, large doorways and a high window sill line. We can say that the Tracker is a kind of dude, which has a more sophisticated design, unlike its older brothers.
The interior of the car is not as spacious as in other Chevrolet SUVs. Yes, and the dashboard looks frankly budget. Nevertheless, the quality, as always, is on top - everything is done soundly and conscientiously.
At the moment, not all the technical characteristics of the Chevrolet Tracker are known. New models will be equipped with several types of engines with small volumes, and dynamic and technical characteristics do not allow the car to feel very confident in severe off-road conditions. But it is worth remembering that the Tracker is still a crossover, and not a full-fledged SUV. And if you need to get home from work or from home to a suburban area, then this car will be most welcome, but it will no longer be possible to get out into marshy areas for fishing or hunting. Yes, and it is unlikely that you will want to - after all, he is a dude, and not an SUV for conquering impassable areas.
