• replace shock absorbers with gas-oil ones. It is recommended to buy shock absorbers and springs as a set. For stock springs, Monroe and Plaza sport shocks will do. For aggressive trail riding, Koni Sport or Bilstein Sport shocks are more suitable. To improve car handling, it is enough to put Monroe Gaz-Matic or Plaza;
• install an anti-roll bar from the VAZ 2110. This will reduce roll when cornering and the car will move smoothly when shaking the steering wheel at speed. There is an opportunity to take turns at a higher speed. Although the anti-roll bar from the VAZ 2110 is only 2 mm thicker than from the VAZ 2109, this affects the stability of the car significantly;
• create negative camber by increasing the pitch angle to improve handling;
• shorten the springs to lower the car. This solution allows you to reduce the clearance of the car. It is recommended to shorten the front springs by no more than 1.75 turns, and the rear springs by 1 turn. If you shorten it more, you need to limit the suspension rebound, that is, use a garter. It is necessary so that the spring does not jump out of the seat, and is carried out using steel cables;
• install polyurethane bushings of levers. Such parts are more reliable and durable, so you have to replace them less often;
• install additional stiffeners by connecting the upper shock absorber supports. The rigidity of the body increases, and the car behaves better during cornering.

The improvement of the braking system of the car is as follows:

• replacing the rear drums with disc brakes;
• installation of a pair of disc-caliper of a larger size;
• replacement of the main brake cylinder. This must be done with the mandatory implementation of the two previous options, since the regular cylinder will not be able to cope with the task.

There are many options for tuning the body, but here you need to feel the measure so as not to turn the car into a Christmas tree or a painted monster. With the right approach, you can make the body beautiful and unique.

Body tuning options VAZ 2109:

• the upper spoiler allows you to protect the rear window from dirt and performs a decorative function. It can be seen on most ordinary nines, but the practicality of such tuning is low, and the appearance is “not for everybody”;
• forged or alloy wheels not only change the look of the car, but also reduce the load on the hubs due to their low weight;
• side mirrors in the body color of the car look stylish and beautiful. To increase visibility, it is recommended to install larger mirrors with aspherical inserts;
• hammerless type door handles. It is more convenient to use such handles and their appearance is more attractive compared to standard VAZ 2109 door handles;
• decorative overlays on arches and thresholds. This is not only an option for decorating a car, but also a way to hide the rust that has appeared, since it is the sills and wheel arches that are damaged most quickly;
• aerodynamic skirts. With their help, owners are trying to improve the aerodynamic performance of the car. Experts confirm that the effectiveness of such tuning is small, since these elements begin to work only at very high speeds, but as a decoration, this is a great option;
• deflector on the hood, it is also called a fly swatter. It allows you to redirect oncoming air flows and protect the front of the hood from gravel and sand. The windshield is protected from small stones and insects, as they are carried away by the air flow;
• antennas, air intakes and their simulators, slots on the hood. These elements do not carry a practical purpose and act only as decorative ones;

Salon

The interior of the nine was developed in the last century, so today it cannot be called a model. To make it more modern, there are many tuning options. Do not forget that it is ugly when the external tuning of the car is made very high quality, and when you open its doors, you see a worn interior. The following interior changes can be made with your own hands:

• additional sound insulation helps to make the car more comfortable. To protect the interior from external noise, an additional gluing of the partition separating the engine from the interior, bottom, doors, and engine compartment is carried out. For this, a special soundproofing material is used, the thickness of which is 1.5–2 mm. It is made from butyl rubber composite sealant. The material has an adhesive layer, with which it is attached to the car body;
• installation of a new dashboard or installation on an old special lining. There are overlays designed for both high and low panels of the VAZ 2109. They are installed on top of the standard panel and improve its appearance. You can completely replace the dashboard; for this, panels from newer VAZ models or foreign cars are used;

Lighting system

The factory lighting system of the VAZ 2109 is quite good, but it does not have a very attractive appearance. Having bought and installed low-quality, but beautiful headlights, you will significantly worsen the lighting, and this negatively affects traffic safety. The lighting system can be modified as follows:

On the taillights, the plastic often becomes cloudy, which degrades its appearance and lighting quality. To fix the problem, you can buy new plastic, but it can be enough to polish the one that is. This will improve the appearance of the lights and the brightness of the lighting, which makes the car more visible at night and in fog.

Tuning the door system, trunk, rear shelf

Changing the VAZ 2109 door system not only makes it more attractive and facilitates the operation of the car, but also reduces the likelihood of its unauthorized opening. Such tuning consists in installing power windows and central locking.

With the improvement of the trunk, you can put an electric lock on it, and remove the standard factory lock. In this case, it will be opened with a button from the passenger compartment and uninvited guests from the outside will not be able to get into the trunk.

The rear shelf separates the trunk from the passenger compartment. You can install speakers in it. The standard shelf is rather weak, so it is usually changed to a reinforced one that can withstand more weight. You can purchase a finished shelf or make it yourself from thick plywood, chipboard.

There are many ways in which you can improve both the appearance of the VAZ 2109 and its technical characteristics. It all depends on the funds that the owner is willing to allocate for car tuning, and on imagination. The main thing is not to overdo it, so you need to follow the measure. Otherwise, when tuning a car, you may not improve, but worsen its appearance and technical performance, and your car will be called the insulting word "collective farm".
