- the most popular car of the French brand, which is invariably in steady demand to this day, even despite the fact that the third generation of the model has long appeared on the market. The secret of such popularity is that over the years of operation, Megan 2 has established itself as a reliable and unpretentious car, thanks to this, it is well sold in a used condition. As you know, there are no ideal cars, therefore, today we will try to find out what disadvantages Renault Megane 2 has with mileage, and what you need to pay attention to when choosing a car in the secondary market.

A bit of history:

For the first time, Renault Megan 2 was presented in 2002 at an automobile exhibition in Paris. Initially, the car was produced only in a hatchback body with an unusual rear end ( the rear window is convex and almost vertical). A little bit later ( in 2003), other modifications were presented to the public - sedan, station wagon and coupe. The car is built on a class platform WITH”, which was developed jointly with the company Nissan, therefore, to talk about continuity with the predecessor ( Renault Megane first generation) is possible only conditionally. When designing the rear of the body, improvements were used that were tested on the concept car " Renault Talisman» and put into production on the model « Renault Avantime».

Sedan cars were assembled at a factory in Turkey, the rest of the modifications were assembled in France. In some countries, the station wagon was sold under the name " Megan Grand Tour". In 2006, the car was restyled. The changes affected: the front bumper, front and rear optics, and the instrument panel has also changed. From the same year, only one model of a 1.6-liter gasoline engine was installed on the sedan. Debuted in 2008 , this version of the car is produced to this day .

Advantages and disadvantages of Renault Megane 2 with mileage.

The Renault Megan 2 body is well protected from corrosion, the proof is the fact that on most cars older than 10 years there is not even a hint of rust ( applies only to those vehicles that have not been restored after an accident). Also, there are no special claims to the quality of the paintwork. The only place that requires attention is the sills and rear wheel arch liners, over time, in these places the paint will be sandblasted to metal ( the problem is solved by pasting the problematic protective film). Also, you should pay attention to the drainage system in the area of the wipers, since when it gets dirty, water enters the passenger compartment and the wiper mechanism, which leads to their oxidation, jamming. Often, there are problems with the electrician, namely, the trunk stops opening from the button ( mass disappears) and the rear light contacts burn out.

Engines

In the secondary market can be found with the following power units: gasoline - 1.4 (98 HP), 1.6 (115 HP) and 2.0 (136 HP). Very rarely, but still, there are Megans with a diesel engine 1.5 (85 and 105 hp), as a rule, they are imported to us from Europe with high mileage ( over 250,000 km). Therefore, the choice of such machines must be approached with caution.. This type of engine is equipped with a fuel system that is sensitive to the quality of diesel fuel, which in our reality causes a lot of trouble to its owners ( nozzles, high pressure fuel pump, EGR valve quickly fail). The only plus of these engines is low fuel consumption ( 5.5-7 liters in the city).

Gasoline engines are better adapted to our operating conditions and can run on 92-gasoline without serious consequences. As for the reliability of this type of engines, there are no serious comments on their performance. The only thing that gives trouble is the frequent failure of the ignition coils ( afraid of dampness). The signal to replace the coils will be: unstable operation of the engine, jerks during acceleration and deterioration of acceleration dynamics. To check the condition of the coils, you need to unscrew the spark plugs, if they have carbon deposits, most likely the coils will need to be replaced soon. If the car is often refueled with low-quality fuel, it is necessary to flush the nozzles every 30-40 thousand km. If the gasoline engine began to work like a diesel engine and at the same time fuel and oil consumption increased significantly, most likely the phase regulator failed ( replacement will cost 300-400 USD.).

Often, owners are faced with the problem of difficult starting a cold engine. There can be two reasons for this ailment: the first is contaminated nozzles, the second is the clogged mesh of the fuel pump ( needs cleaning or replacement). Also, the disadvantages include: loss of tightness of the throttle valve gaskets, failure of their damper system on the crankshaft pulley. All motors are belt driven timing must be changed at least once every 60000 km, at the same time it is recommended to change the pump. Belt replacement timing it is better to entrust it to professionals, since in all motors the pulleys have a keyless fit, and if the mounting bolt is not tightened, the pulley may turn, which will lead to the valves meeting the pistons. Approximately once every 100,000 thousand km, you have to change the catalyst and engine mounts.

Transmission

They installed five- and six-speed mechanics and a four-speed automatic transmission. Operating experience has shown that automatic transmission is less reliable than a manual transmission. Machine, with proper maintenance, it takes care of only 100-150 thousand km, then, a major overhaul of the transmission or replacement is required. To prolong the life of an automatic transmission in the cold season, it needs to be warmed up, but in the summer it is prone to overheating, especially when driving in a traffic jam. In a mechanical transmission, the clutch disc is considered a weak point, the problem is that it wears unevenly. A signal that there is a problem will be jerks when shifting gears. Also, the release bearing is not famous for its long life, as a result, the clutch has to be changed quite often, once every 60-80 thousand km.

Disadvantages of running a used Renault Megane 2

Equipped with semi-independent suspension: front - double lever (McPherson), rear - lever-spring with trailing arms, hinged on the car body and interconnected by a beam. In terms of reliability and comfort, the car's suspension has proven itself well. If you do not take into account the racks and stabilizer bushings ( the resource of which is 20-30 thousand km), then the weakest suspension elements are thrust bearings and steering tips, the service lines of which in rare cases exceed 50000 km run. The rest of the suspension elements have a fairly large resource. For example, shock absorbers, ball joints and wheel bearings often fail after 90000 km run. Silent blocks, levers and CV joints with careful use live 120-150 thousand km. As for the steering, then, here, the main problem is the small resource of the plastic bushings of the steering rack ( service lines 80-100 thousand km).

Salon

Despite the fact that inexpensive materials were used for interior trim, its quality and wear resistance are practically not satisfactory even after 10 years of operation. There are no special claims to the reliability of electrical equipment. The only thing that slightly spoils the pleasant impression of the cabin is the incorrect operation of the head unit, power windows and air conditioning. When contacting the service, it is recommended to replace all sensors and connectors, but, unfortunately, in most cases this solves the problem for a short time.

Outcome:

Despite all the shortcomings, it is rightfully considered one of the most comfortable, reliable and inexpensive cars in the segment. C". When choosing a car of this model, you need to understand that it is no longer young and, most likely, has a solid mileage, therefore, you need to be prepared for the failure of certain nodes.

Advantages:

  • Design.
  • Comfort suspension.
  • Roomy interior.

Flaws:

  • A small resource automatic transmission.
  • Electrical problems.
  • Bad visibility.

The functioning of each vehicle depends not only on the health of the engine, but also on the performance of the fuses. One way or another, but the electrical circuit plays an important role in the operation of the car. In this article, we will tell you about the functions of the Renault Megan 2 fuses, where the block is located and how it is replaced.

[ Hide ]

What are fuses and why are they needed

What are fuses? What are they needed for? Where is the fuse block (PSU) located? These questions came to the mind of every Renault car owner. Now we will try to answer these questions briefly. These elements are designed to open the electrical circuit when the current strength in it increases sharply.

In a more understandable language, the components of the PSU are necessary in order to protect the devices of the electrical equipment system from damage as a result of a short circuit or circuit overload. That is, if a malfunction suddenly occurs in the circuit and a short circuit occurs, then the fuse will fail first, and then the device itself is already possible. The fuse, as they say, takes all the blow. And not in vain, because it is cheaper to purchase this element in the event of its failure than to buy new power windows, mirrors, etc.

Location and diagram of the PSU

Next, we invite you to find out where the fuses on the PSU are located and what functions they perform in Renault cars of the second and third generation. In both car models, the main PSU is located on the left side of the torpedo. To get to it from the driver's seat, you need to remove the cover on the instrument panel on the left side under the steering wheel.

In addition, the machines of the French manufacturer have another PSU, which is installed in the engine compartment. Its circuit will also be described below. Despite the same location of the PSU, the circuits in both car models differ from each other, so we will consider their description separately.

The designations for each component are listed below.

Below is a diagram of a PSU installed in the engine compartment of a car. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the diagram and description of the components.

Removal and replacement process

So let's get started:

  1. First, open the hood and disconnect the battery terminals. If this is not done, the dismantling of the PSU can have sad consequences for the car.
  2. You will see a PSU located on the right side in the engine compartment. You need to unscrew the screws securing the battery and remove it. Also unscrew the PSU cover. All bolts that need to be unscrewed are indicated in red in the photo.
  3. Using a wrench to "10", unscrew the nut and remove the clamp with a bundle of wires.
  4. Now you need to unscrew the fastening screws directly to the PSU.
  5. Having done this, the device can be dismantled.
2. The screws of the battery platform are indicated in red - they need to be unscrewed

Renault Megane 2 generation was produced in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 with hatchback, sedan, station wagon bodies. The sedan was assembled at a factory in Turkey, and the rest of the modifications in France. In some countries, Megane 2 station wagons were sold under a different name - Megane Grand Tour. We will show where the blocks with fuses and relays are located in Renault Megane 2nd generation, as well as a video example of how to get to them. Also photographs of blocks and diagrams with a description of the purpose of the elements, we separately note the cigarette lighter fuse.

Each part of the car from the seat belt to the engine has its own number associated with the VIN code, which is assigned to each car and contains all the information about it, including information about the engine. The VIN code is located under the windshield and is duplicated on a plate that is attached to the B-pillar on the right side.

A rigorous component tagging system is designed to make it easier to find a specific part in case of repair. All modern service centers and spare parts stores use special electronic catalogs in their work, which allow you to almost instantly find the necessary part by the wine code.

Of course, in the event of a failure of one or another node, the car owner is not always able to dismantle it on his own, bring it to a specialized store and ask the sellers to pick up a similar one. It is easier to look at the VIN code of the car or a unique part number, especially when it comes to such large elements of a car as an engine.

How to get the necessary information?

Many Renault Megan 2 owners are wondering: where is the engine number? Independent searches under the hood quite often end in vain. Firstly, these data can be viewed in the technical documentation that the manufacturer attaches to each released car. In particular, in the instruction manual, which contains accurate data about each node of the car, including the engine number. Secondly, the markings can be found directly on the engine.

Where is the marking on the Renault Megane II engine?

Many owners of Renault Megane 2 are asking a similar question. For example, when buying a car in the secondary market, in order to play it safe and see for yourself that the motor on the car is “native”. True, quite often, independent searches end in vain. To find the number on the motor, you should stock up on improvised means: a small flashlight, rust remover (for example, WD) and rags.

The number on most machines is usually stamped on the surface of one of the non-removable elements of the power unit. In particular, on Renault Megan 2, it is located on the front wall of the cylinders, between the junction of the manual transmission and the oil dipstick tube, exactly in the middle of the block. The digital combination contains the model, index and serial number of the motor.

What to do if the numbers are not visible?

On a used car, the surface of the power unit element, on which the number is stamped, is covered with a rust coating and it becomes impossible to make out the marking. We do not recommend using sandpaper to remove it, since the VIN numbers are not very strongly embossed and can be easily rubbed off. If this happens, when selling a car, you may be suspected of hiding the true information about the car.

Even greater troubles can threaten if a forensic expert discovers a wiped motor wine code. He can send the car for examination and charge you with a violation under Art. 326 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Destruction or falsification of the identification number of the vehicle”. Therefore, it is better to get rid of rust with the help of special tools and soft rags. You can avoid the appearance of corrosion with the help of preventive measures - when buying a new car, immediately apply a little graphite grease to the engine area where the VIN code is located.

Does the procedure for registering a vehicle and MOT imply reconciliation of the actual marking of the motor?

According to the rules adopted in 2011, reconciliation of the engine number when registering a vehicle and passing a technical inspection has been abolished. Even if it is known for certain that the actual digital combinations do not match those indicated in the documents, the services that carry out the technical inspection have no right to refuse to issue you a coupon.

Do I need to file a motor replacement with the traffic police?

Despite the fact that at present the engine number data is not checked during vehicle registration and maintenance, this does not mean that in the event of its replacement, the owners of Renault Megan 2 should not file this with the traffic police. Since 2013 when registering a vehicle and insuring it, the information contained in the VIN (vin code) of the car is used, which contains, among other things, information about the engine.

If the new power unit has parameters corresponding to those that appear in the wine code, you should simply make changes to the PTS and the traffic police database. To do this, you must pay a state duty in the amount of 1300 rubles. and submit the following documents to the traffic police REO:

  • passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation;
  • PTS (make a copy in advance);
  • STS (certificate of vehicle registration);
  • a certificate-invoice from a store or a contract of sale, if the power unit was purchased from a private person;
  • customs declaration if a new engine is purchased abroad;
  • a photocopy of the car service certificate, which should contain information that the replacement of the motor can be carried out;
  • an act on the performance of work indicating that no structural changes were made during the replacement of the motor.

The developers of the Renault Group are constantly upgrading the power units of their cars. The method of searching for spare parts based only on the model and date of manufacture of the machine is not relevant today. Therefore, the importance of knowing the wine code of the motor in a situation where it needs a major overhaul or replacement can hardly be overestimated.
