Car transport by rail. Types of wagons for railway transportation of cars Transportation of cars to Europe

For two weeks now, a car-carrier has been running from St. Petersburg to Moscow and back. In the first ten days, he transported 12 vehicles in both directions - therefore, Russian Railways believes that the project is developing successfully. True, in order to transport the car, passengers have to put up with some inconvenience.

TO how to transport a car

The car runs between the capitals as part of train number 30/29. According to Russian Railways, a car-carrier car can simultaneously transport from three to five cars, depending on their dimensions. Now Russian Railways has only three such cars for two routes (the second - Moscow - Helsinki, it was launched in November last year). The car, handed over to this car, travels in the same train with its owner - the car is included in the train according to preliminary applications.

Traveling with your car is a prerequisite, applications for car transportation are made only when buying tickets for train No. 30/29.

To transport your car, you need to worry about this in advance - paperwork starts 45 days and ends 12 hours before the train departs. However, JSC FPC advises to reserve a place for a car at least three days before the trip - then it will definitely leave. If you issue a ticket a day in advance, then it may happen that there are simply no car carriers, because they all left for Helsinki, explains Elena Miroshnikova, a representative of FPC.

First, when buying a passenger train ticket, you need to fill out an application for transportation. Then - issue a transportation document for the car. In St. Petersburg, this can be done at Poltavsky proezd, 9. To issue a document, you need to write an application for transportation, present a passenger ticket, passport, vehicle registration certificate and a power of attorney if the owner of the car is not a passenger.

This must be done before departure. And on the day of departure, you need to have time to return the car to the baggage transportation directorate on time: in St. Petersburg from 9.00 to 15.00 (at the address: Nevsky Prospekt, 85), in Moscow from 9.00 to 14.30 (Komsomolskaya Square, 36). Acceptance of one car takes from 10 to 30 minutes, says Miroshnikova, so it is better to arrive in advance.

Everything is so long and so far in advance, because there are difficulties in transporting the wagon, Elena Miroshnikova explains, explains. For example, in Moscow, from where the train departs at 23:00, loading is completed before 15:00, because then the Sapsan starts running, and then the operation can no longer be carried out: “The car must be moved to another track, in the place where the arrow is, it’s a long process. If Sapsan and other electric trains are running around at this time, it is difficult and dangerous to do this.

How to pick up a car

When you arrive at your destination, another inconvenience arises - you have to wait 1.5 hours for the car to be picked up in St. Petersburg (pickup starts at 11.00, and the train arrives at 9.39) and 4 hours in Moscow (pickup at 9:00, the train arrives at 5.15) . You can get a car in the car itself or at the unloading area.

As explained in FPC, "the time for unloading the car is determined by the technology for processing the car carrier car." “It takes time to unhook the wagon and bring it to the place of shipment. First, the train goes to the depot. There you need to unhook the wagon, drive a shunting locomotive to it, which will drag the wagon to the place of unloading. This is a rather complicated system, - says Elena Miroshnikova. - Here at the airport, everything is subject to the departure schedule for the lanes, but here the situation is even more complicated. While the train is being delivered to the place of unloading, other trains are moving to the depot, and this has to be taken into account. In Moscow, unloading takes longer due to the peculiarities of the infrastructure - traffic intensity, train arrival schedules, the location of the luggage compartment itself. At the Leningradsky railway station in Moscow, the luggage compartment is located 200 meters to the right of the platform. The car will not fly there by air, it must be transported to the switch, then back, and this must be coordinated with the schedule of other trains.

If a passenger is late for the car pickup date, his car will be transferred to a guarded parking lot 200 meters from the station, FPC says. One hour of using the parking lot costs 100 rubles.

What is the price

The cost of transporting a car ranges from 4550 to 5720 rubles - such figures are called in the FPC. Pre-reservation of a seat in a carriage costs 257.6 rubles.

The cost of transportation depends on the "unladen weight" indicated on the vehicle registration certificate. According to this principle, cars are conditionally divided into three groups: class A cars - with an actual weight of up to 1200 kg, class B - from 1200 to 1500 kg, class C - if the actual weight is from 1500 kg and more.

Russian Railways talks about a discount system that allows you to reduce the cost of a trip depending on the number of passengers who have applied for the transportation of one car (the more passengers, the cheaper), as well as the type of carriage in which passengers will travel. Maximum discount 30 percent.

Thus, the cost of transporting a class A car in one direction along the train route is 4,231 rubles for three passengers who have bought tickets for a compartment car; in the SV car - 4095 rubles. If three passengers who have chosen a compartment car for the trip have filed an application for the carriage of a class B car, the cost of transporting a car will be 4,715 rubles.

The launched car carrier is not the first in Russia. Six months ago, Russian Railways launched such a carriage from Moscow to Helsinki as part of the Leo Tolstoy train. From January 1 to July 10, 2013, 122 vehicles were transported along this route, 198 were reserved.

According to Elena Miroshnikova, the transportation scheme between Moscow and Helsinki is more complicated - it is necessary to bring the car back and forth, this is the requirement of the Finns - and the prices are much higher: one-way transportation costs 225 euros, round-trip - 450 euros, reservation - 4 Euro. “Therefore, the service in that direction is less in demand than, according to expectations, the Moscow-Petersburg route,” says Miroshnikova.

40 applications have already been submitted for the route St. Petersburg - Moscow for July and August. The car carrier does not start every day, but FPC is considering increasing the number of cars, since in peak seasons three cars for two directions may not be enough.

Aleksey Ignatkovich, coordinator of the Car Travelers Club:

I believe that a car carrier is a necessary thing, and the experience of our Finnish neighbors proves this. In Finland, for example, such transportation is organized between Helsinki and Rovaniemi. When traveling by car, many Russian tourists prefer not to go to Rovaniemi by car, but go to Helsinki, load cars on platforms and travel with them by train. This is despite the fact that the quality of Finnish roads is quite high. And if we talk about the Moscow-Petersburg route, then the real travel time is about 10 hours, and the road is quite tiring. So, I think this service will be in demand among those people who do not have a very limited budget.

In relation to Russia, in principle, such a service can be in demand in almost all areas. We have interesting places - the Volga with its center in Kazan, Altai, Baikal, the south - and so far, in order to travel by car to remote regions, there are two exits. The first is to fly there and rent a car, but this is not yet sufficiently developed in our small cities. The second is to drive your own car. And since people have limited vacations - as a rule, this is 2 weeks, then to see Altai, you need to go there without stopping for 4 days, then 4 days back, and there is a week left to explore Altai. A train with such services would solve the problem - people could get there faster, and most importantly, without getting tired on the road.

How quickly this service will become widespread in Russia will depend on the cost. So far, given that such a car can accommodate a few cars, and there are height restrictions that cut off motorhomes and cars with top trunks, Russian Railways, apparently, do not expect much demand, and 10 - 20 cars a month, I think, will be typed.

Sergey Bokov, autotourist:

I have repeatedly transported a car from Helsinki to Rovaniemi and back by rail. Not cheap, but very convenient. Everything is arranged very simply with the Finns - you arrive with a ticket to the place of loading two hours before departure or even an hour, they don’t ask you for any documents other than a ticket, you drive the car onto the platform and go to drink beer. True, earlier the car was loaded right at the railway station in Helsinki, but now the loading has been transferred to the neighboring Pasila station - you can get to Helsinki by train for free. Or you can wait for the train at this station.

In Rovaniemi, in general, everything is simple - the car is unhooked before your eyes, transported to the ramp, and without any verification of documents, everyone disperses in five minutes.

And we came up with a completely insane bureaucratic scheme: first buy a ticket, reserve a seat - well, this is normal, so go with a statement and a bunch of documents to some office. Then, on the day of departure, bring the car at least 7 hours before departure. And having arrived in Moscow at 5 in the morning, wait until 9, until they give you the car. I’m not sure that with such a bureaucracy, people will use these wagons at least to some extent. .

In a container by rail is a fairly popular procedure. It is reliable, fast and relatively inexpensive. Why carry one vehicle with the help of another? In fact, everything is simple. Most often, car dealers and large car sales companies turn to railway transportation. The cars run on rails, mostly new, straight from the machine - so as not to wind up their mileage and not risk their safety.

Rules for the transportation of vehicles in wagons and containers.

Why does the consumer choose railways?

Of course, there are different options for delivering a new car to the buyer or to the point of sale. For example, you can use a truck, which is also sometimes used. The disadvantages are obvious: a bad road leads to damage, high. The train is much safer and, importantly, often tritely cheaper. Transportation of cars with the help of Russian Railways is becoming the most profitable way, and every year this is becoming more and more obvious. For delivery, so-called net wagons, special open platforms and conventional containers are used. Both modes of transportation have both pros and cons. Let's take a closer look at both options.

Mesh car for transporting cars

So, one of the most popular delivery methods is the grid wagon. These wagons were specially designed to carry various vehicles. Thanks to its spaciousness, several cars or even a minibus can be installed in the grid. The main disadvantage of transporting a car by rail using a mesh wagon is that the wagon itself is completely open. It does not protect against the effects of the natural environment - from precipitation, hot sunlight and the like. The main advantage is that such transportation is as cheap as possible. Another very important nuance is the ease of downloading. All this set of reasons significantly reduces the cost of the delivery procedure from point A to point B. Carriers recommend resorting to this point if the cargo does not have a long journey. This is perfect for short distances.

Transportation of a car in a container on Russian railways

Containers are a more monumental structure, which gives them some advantages. They are also very spacious - even a van can be installed in the container. Depending on , you can place one car there (a typical 20-ton container), two, three or four (the maximum possible typical 40-foot container). Such transportation is much less dependent on weather conditions and the external environment. The car is well protected. It is completely hidden from the external environment on all sides, in addition, it is possible to additionally very securely fix the car inside with the help of special fastening elements such as belts, ties, less often - timber. Then the car will be absolutely motionless while driving. Another important nuance for the consumer. Container transportation of cars involves sealing the container immediately after loading. It will not be possible to open it imperceptibly. This is the safety of property from vandalism and theft.

How secure is the car

When loading, much attention is paid to securely fastening the machine inside the container or wagon. This is very important - to limit the possibility of moving cargo in all planes. Transportation of a car in a container implies its complete immobility inside. This is achieved with belts that secure the car inside, tie-downs that increase the number of attachment points, and bars that limit the rotation of the wheels. The complex of these devices allows you to transport the car in absolute immobility. There are several schemes for securing the car inside (but they all use belts, ties and bars), most often the car transfer company has one most preferred one and does not depart from it.

Delivery of the machine using an all-metal freight wagon

The most expensive and reliable way. It is somewhat more reliable than containers due to the fact that such a car is monumental and does not allow the car to move inside, and the car itself is less subject to inertia due to its weight. Such a car closes the transported cargo from prying eyes, and from the side it is difficult to determine what is being transported there and whether the train is running empty. This is a very good protection against theft and vandalism.

Rail transportation of cars makes the delivery of even a luxury car to anywhere in Russia without any problems. By choosing more expensive ones, you get reliability and protection against crime. Cheaper methods are comparable in price to road transport, but in practice they are much more reliable and faster. The use of Russian Railways for the transportation of various goods saves money and time for its customers. There are a lot of companies that provide intermediary services. Choose Reliability!

For most people, when buying a car, its value is important. As a rule, we can find a car at a reasonable price for us at a great distance from home. But this never stopped those who wanted to buy a "swallow".

It used to be quite popular to drive cars from Germany and other neighboring countries due to their cheapness there.

But nowadays, thanks to the Internet, we can find the car we like even in the opposite part of the country. And the main factor will not be the kilometers that separate us from the seller, but the desire to become the owner of the car. And the distances can be very impressive. For example, from the Crimea to the Far East.

Driving a car with the help of intermediaries

It's no secret that there are people who make money on the haul of other people's cars. If we personally do not want or cannot overcome this distance, and even in both directions, then experienced truck drivers will offer their help to us.

Such people most often work in pairs, because the road is long and not always easy. Due to this, the amount for this service will not be small.

Of course, it is good when we have personal acquaintances who are engaged in such business, or “acquaintances of acquaintances”. In any case, you need to trust such people, and that they be "tested by time." Also, by writing an appropriate query in the search bar on the Internet, you can get many options for such services.

For example, they look like this:

“I will carefully and accurately distill the car cat. B, C, D from Moscow to the regions. Active experience of 13 years, the experience of hauling a lot. Transfers from other cities are possible”;

“I will drive a car from Vladivostok to the center of Russia. Novosibirsk, Moscow and other cities.

Accordingly, the contact information of the person submitting the ad should also be nearby.

What are the risks associated with working with an intermediary?

The first thing that comes to mind when considering the risks involved in this case is probably that our car will be stolen. Especially frightening is the trend towards an increase in car thefts.

If earlier, according to statistics, cars of premium brands were stolen, in our time they can covet even simpler brands and models of cars.

But, as a rule, when buying a car in another region, we carefully approach the choice of a carrier. Some may even ask the executor of the order for some document as collateral, for example, a certain amount of money, and only after the transaction is completed, transfer the required amount to the carrier's account. That is, we can secure our transaction as much as possible.

But car theft is not the only risk that can accompany a deal. Another important factor is risk. After all, the sooner the carrier chosen by us fulfills the order, the sooner he will receive a fee and will be able to look for a new client. This means that they are often characterized by haste and excessive confidence behind the wheel due to many years of experience in this field.

Experienced advice: in no case trust the driving of the car to the first persons who have not passed the test!

Driving with minimal risk

It happens that the solution to our problem is at our fingertips, but we do not notice it. But at the right moment, we either find a clue ourselves, or we are led to this idea.

The solution to these issues is the transportation of cars using railway transport. Also, an undoubted advantage and a guarantor of the safety of transportation by rail will be the fact that companies are engaged in this, and not individuals.

As a rule, the risk of theft or damage to the car is minimized.. Well, if a force majeure event occurs and the car suffers, then we don’t have to rack our brains much how to get compensation.

I would like to note the advantages of transporting a car using railway transport:

  • there is no risk of an accident;
  • the machine will not suffer from;
  • there is no risk of car theft.

In addition, it is easier to find a company that is engaged in transportation than a reliable carrier.

Take into account: transportation of the car through a logistics company is insured.

How is the transportation

Delivery is carried out with the help of Russian Railways and companies cooperating with it.

For example, a car can be sent in a 20 and 40 foot container or in a special wagon designed to transport the car. It's called the "grid".

The snag may lie in the fact that the company needs at least eight cars to be transported in such a car. Accordingly, you will have to wait until the company collects the right amount. Well, in addition, the direction of railway transportation should be quite in demand.

For example, one of the most common destinations is Moscow - Vladivostok. And after delivery to Moscow or another nearest city, you can independently pick up and overtake the car to the desired region.

Which car to choose

Let's start with the simplest. The car carrier "railroad grid" is attractive to us for its cheapness.

But at the same time, we also have disadvantages of such transportation:

  • impact of atmospheric precipitation;
  • delivery time.

But an all-metal wagon will protect our car from all undesirable influences, and besides, very often in many directions they are sent by an accelerated train with containers.

How much the cost of delivery will cost us will depend on many indicators: on the campaign and its tariffs, on the distance, on the type of car: passenger or truck. Therefore, the choice of a logistics company is yours.

Watch the video, which, using the example of a specific company, shows the features of transporting cars by rail:

Dear readers! Our articles talk about typical ways to resolve legal issues, but each case is unique.
If you want to know how to solve exactly your problem - contact the online consultant form on the right or call:

When organizing railway transportation of vehicles, the customer is given a choice of several types of railway cars used for this purpose:

  • Net cars for up to 10 cars;
  • Car carriers with a capacity of 8-10 cars;
  • Universal 20 and 40 foot containers with a capacity of 1 and 2 vehicles, respectively;
  • Car transport containers with a capacity of 3-4 cars.

Depending on the selected type of rolling stock, the cost of transportation may increase by 15-40%, but at the same time, the reliability of delivery also increases in proportion to the price.

The maximum protection of the delivered goods is provided by container transportation by rail. This favorably distinguishes them from budget options: open platforms and mesh cars are not able to completely protect the transported cars from atmospheric and some other external influences.

Covered wagons for transporting cars

The number of Best Logistics LLC customers who want to send a car to its destination by rail in a covered wagon remains high. Several versions of the corresponding rolling stock have been developed specifically for transportation by Russian Railways. Of these, the most widespread are 4-axle mesh cars model 11-287, adapted to the climatic conditions of the greater territory of the Russian Federation, model 11-835 and model 11-1804 with increased carrying capacity.

In comparison with open platforms and mesh wagons, a covered car carrier has an important advantage comparable to the advantages of container transportation: a high level of protection against negative external influences. At the same time, the speed of delivery of cars in wagons is 40-80% less than the container one, with a minimum difference in the cost of the service.

Structurally, a covered wagon-car carrier is:

  • 4 wheelsets;
  • all-metal body;
  • the inner space, divided into 2 tiers: the height of the lower 1820-1950 mm, the upper - 1850-1950 mm.

The carrying capacity of the wagons ranges from 15-25 tons. As a rule, our company transports cars in covered car carriers with a capacity of 8-10 cars.

The car is fastened in the car with the help of removable wheel stops mounted in special slotted grooves along the ramps. Wheel stops tightly compress each of the four wheels and reliably prevent their displacement along any axis. To fix cars weighing up to 1.9 tons, 4 stops are used, for heavier ones, 8 stops are used.

Choosing a container for transporting a car in a wagon

The main criterion for choosing railway containers is their size. The most common are 20- and 40-foot models used in a multimodal transportation scheme. This means door-to-door delivery of a container using various modes of transport - road, river or sea, rail.

Transportation of cars in a 40-foot SHC container is especially convenient. Due to the increased height and the presence of the progressive TransRak fastening system, the capacity of the container has been increased to 4 vehicles. It will also include a bus with a height of up to 2.95 meters.

We can organize the trailering of a car carrier to regular trains:

Transportation of vehicles is carried out from the initial to the final station of the passenger train, in which the car-carrier follows. Loading and unloading on the way is not carried out.

The car-carrier is accompanied by specially trained cargo and baggage acceptors on trains who load and unload the car, draw up an inventory of the vehicle, are present together with the passenger during customs control (when transported on the Moscow-Helsinki route), ensure the safety of the car and personal belongings of senders on the way. The keys to the car upon completion of loading are handed over to the receiver.

You can follow the same train with the car, or the car will be transported in a car carrier without your presence (depending on the route).

Required documents

When registering the transportation of a car, you must provide the following documents:

  • statement;
  • passport*;
  • vehicle registration certificate;
  • a power of attorney with appropriate powers if the owner of the vehicle is another person;
  • travel documents (tickets) issued for the entire route of the vehicle in the car carrier (if you are also traveling on the FPC JSC train).

* When registering for transportation on the Moscow - Helsinki route, a foreign passport is also required in addition to the above documents.

Vehicle Requirements

Vehicles are accepted for transportation, the maximum dimensions of which do not exceed the following parameters:

  • length - 6500 mm;
  • width - 2200 mm;
  • height - 2000 mm;
  • track - 1420–1663 mm;
  • base - 3900 mm.

Vehicles that require towing are not accepted for carriage.

Before shipment, the vehicle must be fully functional and meet the following requirements:

  • possible leaks in the vehicle must be eliminated;
