Let's try to make the backlight of the instrument panel from the inside, as on foreign cars, using the high panel of the VAZ 2109 as an example. It should be noted that tuned tidy in specialized firms are very expensive, so you can save a lot by modifying the instrument panel with your own hands.

To do this, we need a light-transmitting overlay on the instrument panel, like this one:

We remove from the car and disassemble the instrument panel, remove the instrument arrows and remove the old lining. In order for the backlight to hit the lining from the inside, we make cutouts on the surface under the lining. This can be done with a heated knife or soldering iron.

We will perform tuning of the instrument panel VAZ 21099. First of all, we dismantle the plastic, get to the panel board, remove it, but first things first. In the process of finalization, we will need a soldering iron, an insert into the VAZ 21099 dashboard, an ultraviolet light bulb, a certain amount of wires, regular bulbs with cartridges, glue and a fluorescent marker.

The connection is made in the place where the standard backlight used to be. Do not confuse the polarity, on the board it is usually marked where the minus is and where the plus is. If there are no such marks, then we determine this empirically. Next, we take a pair of bulbs for each device, for example, on the VAZ 21099 speedometer, we connect the bulbs on both sides and connect it all with wires. We stretch the wires from the inside, making small holes in the partitions. We installed the light bulbs, we connect them to the same place where the neon bulbs are connected, you should not pay attention to the polarity here, it does not play any role. Now we check the lighting for performance, if you did everything right, then you can attach the overlay and start admiring. Additionally, we adjust the position of the bulbs from the inside. By the way, fastening bulbs from the inside can be done with glue, you just need to make sure that the wiring does not interfere with the movement of different parts of the sensors, the wiring can be glued to plastic elements. Almost everything is ready, we move on to the final stage. We put the overlay on top and put it on glue in the corners. The pad is in place, we proceed to the installation of the arrows. We make the installation very carefully, paint them with a marker, it is advisable to let them dry several times. It remains to assemble the dashboard and put everything in its regular place. Without fail, we check the operation of the sensors, assemble the torpedo to the end. This is just one of the options for tuning the instrument panel of the VAZ 21099, it all depends on your capabilities and imagination. It is quite realistic not to buy an overlay, but to paint it with your own hands, thereby making an original tuning of the car interior. The main thing is that the backlight should only illuminate the panel, and not blind you in the face, so it is so important to choose the right bulbs and adjust them.

• After carrying out soundproofing, we sheathe the interior.

Steering wheel and tuning

All experts and professional specialists believe that the standard steering wheel of a vehicle is the safest. It was he who was developed by the manufacturer and it was this wheel that passed the necessary tests in accordance with the design of the car.
As a last resort, it is recommended to change the steering wheel to a wheel from the same manufacturer, a newer model. In particular, comfortable and “grasping” steering wheels from the VAZ 2115, etc., are great for the VAZ 2109.

In addition, the leather “breathes” so to speak, which affects the comfort while holding the steering wheel on long trips.
Let's start braiding the steering wheel with leather on our own (this procedure is very expensive for masters):

• First, wrap the steering wheel with cling film to make a stencil.

• Wrap paper or masking tape over the film.
• We draw the places of the seams with a marker on the adhesive tape.
• We cut the tape along the markup, doing it very carefully.
• We remove stencils, of which three are obtained.
• Cut out patterns from paper.
• In a leather blank, in places where seams are provided, we add 5 mm each (along the perimeter of the steering wheel rim, on the contrary, we remove 2 mm).
• We sew the skin, leaving a minimum margin behind the seam of the thread, and cut off the rest.
• We sew a seam around the perimeter of the resulting workpiece.

Note. It is best to sew with synthetic threads, which provide strength and proper quality.

• We apply the leather blank to the steering wheel.

Note. To reduce the effect of protruding seams on the front side, grooves can be cut under them on the steering wheel.

• We thread the thread, like a lace in a shoe, with a needle.
• We skip the thread for the loops of the seams on different sides of the braid.

Note. It is not necessary to use glue at all, since the tightened braid is already securely fixed.

• We fix the thread at the end of the procedure.
• We put all the removed parts and elements in place.

Steering wheel replacement

If the steering wheel is changed to a new one, the work process will look like this.
Started:

• Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
• We take out the key from the ignition lock.
• Turn the steering wheel until the steering lock lock engages.
• We apply the appropriate marks on the steering wheel and instrument panel.
• We take a screwdriver and pry off the cover plate of the sound signal.
• Then we take it off.
• We unscrew the two screws, remove the cover (we act with a curly screwdriver).
• Now you need to arm yourself with a 24 head and unscrew the nut that fixes the steering wheel (we unscrew the nut not completely, but several turns).
• We pull the steering wheel onto ourselves along the splines of the shaft.

Note. At this stage of the work, there may be a problem associated with the removal. In this case, an assistant will help, who will apply light blows with a hammer on the steering wheel, always through a special drift.

• Loosen the nut and remove the steering wheel.
• We transfer the marks from the old steering wheel to the new one.
• Installing a new steering wheel.
