"Lada - the key to the roads of Russia"- this is exactly the motto of the AvtoVAZ company.
OJSC AvtoVAZ is the largest Russian company in the automotive industry. Also, this company is the largest manufacturer of passenger cars in Eastern Europe. Relatively recently, a controlling stake in this company passed into the hands of the Renault-Nissan alliance, which gave a new round of development to AvtoVAZ.

Today, the official name of the company sounds like AvtoVAZ Open Joint Stock Company, but this was not always the case. In the period from 1966 to 1971, the company was called the Volga Automobile Plant, and from 1971 until joining the Renault-Nissan alliance, it was called the Volga Association for the Production of AvtoVAZ passenger cars.

HISTORY AvtoVAZ

For the first time, they started talking about the need to build a new modern automobile plant in the USSR in 1966, it was in this year that the history of AvtoVAZ began. At the next congress of the Central Committee of the CPSU, which took place on July 20, it was approved that a new production facility would be built in the city of Togliatti, which would produce the most modern cars. In order for these cars to be competitive on the world market, the Soviet government decided to involve the Italian automobile concern Fiat, which was friendly in those years, to the technical equipment and training of personnel.

The new plant began its operation in 1969, it was then that its first labor teams were formed. The first cars left the assembly line a year later. These were cars that were designed on the basis of the Italian car FIAT-124. Below, we will tell you more about this and many other cars that have ever rolled off the AvtoVAZ assembly line.

VAZ 2101

This is a four-door sedan, which, as we said above, was built on the basis of the Fiat 124. To adapt to Soviet roads, the car has undergone more than 800 changes. So, he was equipped with a larger carburetor engine - 1200 cubic centimeters, plus, the car received a higher ground clearance, and its body and wheel system were strengthened.

A little later, on the basis of this car, the so-called series of classic cars was released: VAZ 21011, which received an even larger engine - 1.3 liters, 21013 - an analogue of 21011, but with an engine from VAZ 2101, as well as a special model for the needs of the police: car VAZ 2101-34, which was equipped with the most powerful engine in this family.

VAZ 2102

The history of AvtoVAZ and its cooperation with the Italian concern Fiat did not stop at the VAZ 2101 model, just a year after the appearance of this car on the market, a new car appeared: which was a licensed version of the Fiat 124 Familiare.

The main improvement, compared to the VAZ 2101, was the trunk, which was at floor level. This was done in order to facilitate loading and unloading procedures. Unfortunately, because of this refinement, the car had a serious minus: a weak level of sealing of the interior from the back door, which caused dust to enter the interior, as well as vapors that came out of the gas tank neck.

Another problem of refinement was the increased mass of the car, which required the shock absorbers and suspension to be made more rigid. This, of course, allowed us to maintain an acceptable carrying capacity: up to 250 kilograms with 2 passengers and up to 55 kilograms with five passengers, but made the car very hard to drive.

In 1978, a special model was released: VAZ 21021, which was intended for export. The engine, which was taken from the VAZ 21011 model, as well as the rear luggage glass, which was equipped with a washer and wipers, underwent changes.

Later, for five years, the car was constantly upgraded, but did not change the name. A more reliable ignition system was installed in it, an even more powerful engine, and other, less significant adjustments were made, but all this could no longer save the car and in 1985 it was discontinued.

VAZ 2103

The VAZ 2103 car is a modified version of the VAZ 2101, which was based on the same Fiat 124. It appeared on the market in 1972. The main differences were a more powerful engine: 72 horsepower, and a more spacious interior: the space above the head of passengers and the driver was increased by 15 millimeters. Also, it should be noted that the VAZ 2103 became the first domestic car on which a vacuum brake booster was installed, as well as a “sports” panel.

In 1980, this car was equipped with a new carburetor, which made the VAZ 2103 more reliable, but just like in the case of the VAZ 2102, the innovations did not save the model. In 1984, it was discontinued.

VAZ 2104

The history of AvtoVAZ began with the VAZ 2104 car as the official manufacturer of station wagon cars. This car was released to replace the VAZ 2102 and was designed to absorb all the best from this car, but leave all its shortcomings in the past. For the first time, this car was released in 1984 and was produced until 2012. During this huge life span for a car, a lot of modifications of this car appeared on the market:

VAZ 21041 - a special, cheaper version, with a smaller engine.

VAZ 21042 - this modification was released specifically for countries with right-hand traffic

VAZ 21043 - an updated, more modern interior and a new five-speed gearbox.

VAZ 21044 - an updated, larger engine - 1700 cubic centimeters.

VAZ 21045 - an updated, larger engine - 1800 cubic centimeters.

VAZ 21045D - an analogue of the VAZ 21044, but with a diesel engine.

VAZ 21047 is an export version of this model.

VAZ 21048 - an analogue of the VAZ 21045, but with a diesel engine.

VAZ 21041 is the first and only modification of this car with an injection engine, which had a volume of 1.7 liters.

VAZ 2105

The VAZ 2105 car was the basis of the export line of AvtoVAZ cars. His design was built on the fashion of the 80s of Europe, but he also found good popularity in his native country. During the entire production of this car, it, like many other cars of that time, underwent many changes, which became more and more new modifications, but by and large, only one was serious, which took place in the early 2000s, when the VAZ 2105 began to install injection engines.

Another interesting fact about this car that is worth mentioning was that the VAZ 2105 is the first car in the history of AvtoVAZ, which began to have a complete set, and was not produced in only one version.

VAZ 2106

The car is a more modern version of the VAZ 2103. It had a more pleasant design for those years, as well as a more powerful engine, which was comparable to the engines that were installed on later versions of the VAZ 2103.

Like the previous AvtoVAZ models, the "six" received many modifications during its life, but the VAZ 21067 became really interesting when the plant first produced a car that met European environmental standards. At that time it was the Euro 2 standard.

VAZ 2107

This car was the first AvtoVAZ car that ran on gasoline above AI-76. Another interesting point was the fact that for the first time special services turned to the plant for a car. For them, a special modification of the VAZ 21079 was released, which was equipped with an engine of 140 horsepower.

And of course, one cannot fail to mention the fact that this is the first VAZ car on which a mono-injection system was installed, although for an export modification.

VAZ 2108

The VAZ 2108 is the first car in the history of AvtoVAZ with front-wheel drive. Initially, the car had a lot of shortcomings (many associate this with an unusual body for designers: a three-door hatchback), which is why it was not very popular on the market, but after a couple of years, most of them were fixed, consumers were presented with three trim levels: “Standard”, "Norma" and "Lux", and also equipped the car with a more powerful engine, which breathed new life into the car, which lasted until 2003.

VAZ 2109

The VAZ 2109 is a five-door hatchback with front-wheel drive. It was produced at AvtoVAZ from 1987 to 2004, and after that, with a larger engine of 1.6 liters, it continued to be produced in Ukraine for the domestic market.
Like other AvtoVAZ cars, many modifications of this car were produced, but no critical changes took place, even the change from a carburetor engine to an injection one became typical for its time.

VAZ 21099

The car is the same VAZ 2109, but with a rear overhang increased by 200 millimeters. Even the modifications of these cars came out similar. The only serious difference was the more thoughtful and up-to-date security system of the VAZ 21099, which was the best among domestic cars of that time.

VAZ 2110

The car was presented to the management and the general public five times. The first four times it was not approved, as it looked either featureless or strongly resembled cars from other manufacturers, which would make it difficult to enter foreign markets. Only after specialists from Porsche were involved in the design development in 1988 did the designers manage to create a car that nevertheless went into production and replaced the VAZ 2106 line, which by that time was obsolete.

Over the years of its existence, this car has undergone several major changes in the field of the engine and exhaust system. This was due to the fact that it sold well for export, but it was necessary to strictly comply with environmental standards that often changed in those years. So, “tens” were released, which corresponded to Euro 2, Euro 3, and even Euro 4.

VAZ 2111

This is a family station wagon, which was launched on the market to replace the VAZ 2104, but could not really achieve the desired result. At the same time, under the export name Lada 111, he found considerable popularity among foreign buyers. It was all about a very large trunk, which, depending on the position of the rear seats, had a volume of 490 to 1420 liters.

Like other cars that the history of AvtoVAZ knows, it has come a long way in life, during which more than a dozen modifications of the VAZ 2111 were produced.

VAZ 2113

The VAZ 2113 car became the successor to the AvtoVAZ line of small cars with front-wheel drive in the back of a three-door hatchback. The decision to resume production of such cars was made under pressure from consumers who wanted to see an analogue of the VAZ 2108 on the market.

The car was equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, and it immediately met the Euro 2 standard, and later, it was finalized and began to comply with the Euro 3 standard.

VAZ 2114

The VAZ 2114 car is a decision that was made immediately after the delivery of the VAZ 2113 cars to the conveyor. In fact, the VAZ 2114 replaced the very popular VAZ 2109 cars on the market at one time.

To the surprise of many fans of AvtoVAZ, this car received only one modification over the years of its existence, and then, the difference from the basic version was only in a larger engine.

VAZ 2115

The VAZ 2115 is a four-door front-wheel drive sedan that was put into production as a successor to the market of the previously very popular VAZ 21099.
The designers released two modifications, but unlike previous years, they did not change the name of the car in any way, and instead of strengthening the engine, they experimented with installing smaller engines. So, at first they tried to put the engine in 1.1 liters, and when the idea failed - 1.3 liters, but this option did not gain popularity either and the plant was forced to return to the original 1.5-liter engine.

VAZ 2112

The VAZ 2112 car is, in fact, a VAZ 2110 hatchback. The car was very popular at one time due to its attractive appearance, as well as its low price. The same factors made its export modification Lada 112 popular in the foreign market.

After the success of the five-door version, the three-door VAZ 2112 Coupe was released, but it did not become popular, which is most likely due to the fact that lovers of three-door domestic cars have already become accustomed to the VAZ 2108 and VAZ 2113.

Lada Kalina

The car went on sale in 2006. A car was produced in a sedan and hatchback body, and a station wagon appeared a little later. In 2007, the car was finalized, it began to comply with the Euro 3 standard, and also became more economical.

For the first time in the history of AvtoVAZ, the plant's designers have developed a special version of the car - Lada Kalina GTI, which was intended for lovers of high-speed and dynamic driving. The car was much more maneuverable than the base model, and also had better dynamics, but it clearly did not reach the GTI class of other manufacturers.

Lada Priora

The car is, at the moment, one of the most popular cars in the AvtoVAZ family. For the first time, the history of AvtoVAZ received a car that even picky automotive magazines called good for its time.

This car is available in sedan, station wagon, three-door hatchback and five-door hatchback.

VAZ 2121 and VAZ 2131 Niva

Cars of the series are the only SUVs that are produced by AvtoVAZ independently. They are popular both among the domestic consumer and among foreign buyers. Undoubtedly, this car has a minimum of comfort, but on the other hand, it shows excellent cross-country performance, and in combination with a low price, it becomes the only representative of the truly budget SUV segment.

The difference between VAZ 2121 and VAZ 2131 is that the first car is three-door, and the second is five-door.

Chevrolet Niva

The Chevrolet Niva car is a modified VAZ 2131, which is assembled in a more modern body and adapted to urban conditions. This car is more comfortable than the classic Niva, but less passable.

Lada Granta

A car is a car that is built on the platform of the Renault Logan car, which is very popular in our country. This car is the most budgetary of the cars currently produced by AvtoVAZ and is almost the most popular model in the history of AvtoVAZ.

Lada Largus

A car is a car that replaced the once produced VAZ 2102, later the VAZ 2104, and even later the VAZ 2111. But unlike the previous station wagons, this car received a seven-seat family modification, as well as a “van” modification, which was developed specifically for commercial segment.

Now the expected novelties of AvtoVAZ 2018 are being vigorously discussed. Interest in them was also fueled by the company's president, Nicolas Maure, who, on the eve of the new year 2017, in his interview in Ust-Kamenogorsk, told the public about the prospects of the Lada lineup.

Priority tasks have been set for all AvtoVAZ enterprises:

  • transfer the entire line of manufactured cars to the new X-design;
  • release eight new Lada models over the next 10 years;
  • to form a positive attitude of the population towards domestic cars by significantly improving their quality.

Previously, the Russian auto industry did not indulge us with new products. They were rare, and even more often in the form of modernization. Now the number of domestic models has decreased, but they are actively developing. Automakers have recently announced new products with enviable constancy. It is interesting to look at the new AvtoVAZ 2017/2018 models (photos of the models are located under their description).

This SUV will be the first model to be launched in late 2017 and enter full production in 2018. It is created on the basis of ordinary Vesta. According to AvtoVAZ President N. Mora, it will cost about 800 thousand rubles, but apparently, it will please its future owners not only with increased ground clearance, but also with rich, well-thought-out basic equipment.

First, this elongated sedan was presented as a VIP car. It was made in one copy, in the form of an experiment. Then the next, slightly modernized version appeared, and from the beginning of 2018, sales of this modification may already begin on pre-orders.

At the 2016 motor show in Moscow, AvtoVAZ presented this all-terrain sedan, designed on the basis of a station wagon. However, there is still no information about the launch time of the car on the conveyor. It is possible that such a car will not appear at all, although there should not be any special problems with the start of production.

But this car will appear for sure. Another domestic novelty of 2017-2018 is actually ready. It is equipped with a 1.8-liter 150-horsepower engine, has an original steering wheel. Disc brakes are installed at the rear instead of drum brakes, in front - with a diameter of 286 mm versus 260 mm. 18-inch wheels with Continental tires will come as standard. Surprising price tag - almost a million.

The creators of this off-road vehicle have not yet decided whether the car will be all-wheel drive. Without this, the car will be an ordinary hatchback with a plastic body kit and slightly increased ground clearance. The start of sales is promised at the beginning of 2018. Most likely, consumers will be offered both options: front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Perhaps this car will appear a little earlier. It does not require a 4 x 4 drive, and everything that is needed to modify the "sport" hatchback has already been tested on the Vesta Sport sedan. Although AvtoVAZ did not announce the release date of the model, we will expect this promising domestic novelty to appear no later than 2018.

In the fall of 2018, it is planned to start production of the second generation of the SUV. It has not yet been shown even in the form of a prototype. It is assumed that the car will be larger than the parent; it will remain in both the three- and five-door versions of the body. A 1.8-liter engine with 122 horsepower will appear under the hood. The transmission will be seriously upgraded.

The trunk will accommodate a 90-liter cylinder for refueling with methane. This volume of gas should be enough for about 1000 kilometers. Engine power will be 83 hp. when working on gasoline, and a little less - 75 liters. With. – when using gas fuel. Accordingly, the maximum speed will also decrease: 123 km / h. instead of 137 km/h.

In 2016, AvtoVAZ presented a stylish conceptual subcompact SUV, made in the corporate X-shaped style. There is still no reliable data on the release time for the assembly line of this model, but there are prerequisites for the fact that it will be the end of 2018, although it is unlikely to appear in car dealerships until 2019.

One of the most demanded by Russians (and not only!) VAZ models. In the updated version, modified racks and body kits will appear, the radius of the wheels will increase (16 inches) and the ground clearance will rise (175 mm). The car will be equipped with an improved engine and GLONASS system.

The management of AvtoVAZ, in addition to the listed models of the Lada brand, voiced a desire to bring another new budget car to the Russian market at a price lower than the cheapest of their existing AvtoVAZ cars. What kind of car it will be, and when domestic motorists will see it, is not yet known.

Ulyanovsk novelties

Despite the fact that in the light of the new transformations at AvtoVAZ, the attention of most motorists is riveted to it, the domestic auto industry is not limited to this company only. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, and it does not stop there. In 2017, a new model of the UAZ 3170 SUV is brought to the market.

The famous “hunter” will appear in a new guise - the UAZ Hunter SUV. It will be distinguished by increased safety and greater than before, comfort in management. Changes are expected in the design of the dashboard, the gearbox will become smoother.

UAZ Cargo will not be left without updates. The carrying capacity of the latter will increase from 800 kg to 1500 kg, that is, almost twice. This is sure to please those who use the pickup for commercial purposes.

The novelties of the Russian automotive industry in 2017/2018 are not limited to this. Recently, GAZ announced work on a new generation of Gazelle-Next minibuses, and its Likinsky Bus Plant division is preparing to produce tourist buses for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

On July 20, 2016, AvtoVAZ celebrated its 50th anniversary. A site browser from Tolyatti told the story of the largest automobile company in Russia - from the construction of an enterprise to the present day.

Construction of the plant and the first years of work

By the mid-1960s, the Soviet government was faced with the question of developing the automotive industry in the country. It was supposed to create a large full-cycle plant with the involvement of foreign partners. The government considered 54 construction sites throughout the USSR, but the choice was made in favor of Togliatti.

In the 1950s, the Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station was built near the city, which could provide the construction site and the plant with electricity. Another factor was transport accessibility - not far from Tolyatti there was a highway (now the M-5 Ural federal highway) and a large railway junction in Kuibyshev (now Samara).

Italian Fiat was chosen as a foreign partner. On August 15, 1966, Fiat President Gianni Agnelli signed a contract with Alexander Tarasov, Minister of the Automobile Industry of the USSR, to create an automobile plant in the city of Togliatti with a full production cycle. Under the contract, the Italian company was entrusted with the technological equipment of the plant and the training of specialists.

Viktor Polyakov became the first director of the plant. Before being appointed to VAZ, he worked as the director of the Moscow Small Car Plant and held senior positions in the Moscow Council of the National Economy. Polyakov supervised the construction of the plant and the enterprise itself in the first years of its operation.

In 1970, the assembly of cars began at the plant. The first model was the legendary "penny" - VAZ 2101. Its prototype is the car FIAT-124. On April 19 of that year, the first six cars left the main assembly line, and in October the first train of Zhiguli was sent to Moscow.

On March 24, 1971, the State Commission accepted the first stage of the Volga Automobile Plant into operation. On January 10, 1972, the State Commission signed an act of acceptance of the second stage. Officially, the plant was accepted by the State Commission with an "excellent" rating on December 22, 1973.

The development of AvtoVAZ is continuously connected with Togliatti. In parallel with the construction of the plant, a new, Avtozavodsky district was being built. Thanks to the construction and the involvement of builders and workers, the population of the city increased by more than 6 times in 1962-1982.

In 1971, the first car model VAZ-2102 was produced, in 1972 - VAZ-2103. In 1973, the millionth car was produced, and in 1974 the plant reached its design capacity - 660,000 cars a year. In 1975, the director of VAZ, Viktor Polyakov, moved to the post of Minister of the Automobile Industry of the USSR. In 1995, Viktor Polyakov was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Togliatti. A monument to the first director was erected near the AvtoVAZ plant management building.

Expansion of the model range, "logic bomb" and the opening of a scientific and technical center

In 1975, Anatoly Zhidkov became the director of the plant. Under him, the expansion of the VAZ lineup continued. In 1976, the first Niva cars (now Lada 4x4) were manufactured, which were intended for difficult conditions. In the same year, the production of the VAZ-2106, one of the most popular cars of the plant, began. It was produced until 2005, in total 4.3 million "sixes" were produced.

In 1979, the five millionth car was produced, and in 1980 - the first car of the VAZ-2105 model. In 1982, Valentin Isakov became the director of the plant, the plant continued to expand the model line and began production of the VAZ-2107 model.

In the same year, a remarkable incident occurred at AvtoVAZ - for the first time in a Soviet enterprise, the conveyor of the plant was stopped with the help of a "logical bomb". "Logic bomb" - a program that runs at a certain time and executes malicious code to unauthorized access or destroy data. In fact, this incident was the first penetration into the software of such a large enterprise in those years.

In 1986, after the visit of Mikhail Gorbachev, the construction of the VAZ scientific and technical center began, which is engaged in the development and testing of new cars. By the mid-1990s, it was completed with all the equipment.

Until 1988, the plant expanded its line of vehicles with several models: in 1984, the production of the first VAZ-2104 utility vehicle and the first VAZ-2108 front-wheel drive vehicle began. In 1986, the plant produced the 10 millionth car.

In 1987, the production of the VAZ-2109 started, in 1988 - the VAZ-111 Oka car, which was positioned as an inexpensive family car.

In the same year, the plant was headed by Vladimir Kadannikov, under whom the enterprise underwent great changes. After the collapse of the USSR in 1992-1993, privatization and corporatization of large industrial enterprises began in the country. AvtoVAZ also fell under this wave, which since 1993 became a joint-stock company.

Criminal wars, the "tenth" family and the transition under the control of "Rosoboronexport"

Along with the change in the organizational and legal structure of the company, AvtoVAZ became the center of criminal wars. In 1992, illegal intermediary organizations for the sale of cars appeared at the plant. Representatives of criminal structures took advantage of this situation - they began to collect "tribute" from such enterprises for "protection" of illegal business.

Another important point of redistribution of criminals was the official store for the sale of Zhiguli cars, which was the only official dealer of VAZ in the early nineties.

By the mid-1990s, most of the sales of products went through the hands of criminal structures. According to some estimates, in those years, the income of criminal groups reached about 700 million rubles.

By the end of 1998, law enforcement agencies managed to confiscate the factory passes from most of the representatives of the criminal communities, which deprived them of their main control over the sale of cars and spare parts.

Despite the difficult criminal situation, in the 1990s the plant worked almost without interruptions and failures. In 1993, the 15 millionth car was assembled. In 1995, the assembly of the model of the new, "tenth" family, the VAZ-2110, began. In 1996, the production of the "eleventh" model started, in 2000 - the "twelfth". In the 90s, the volume of production did not fall below 529 thousand cars a year.

In the late 1990s, the development of the second generation of the Lada Samara family began. The first car was the VAZ-2114, which is considered the successor to the VAZ-2109.

In 2001, AvtoVAZ and General Motors opened a joint venture GM-Avtovaz for the production of Chevrolet Niva SUVs. In the early 2000s, the development of a new model, the Lada Kalina, began, the production of which began in 2004.

Until 2005, the main shareholders of the plant were the labor collective and top management of AvtoVAZ. However, due to the difficult criminal situation in the city in the nineties, it was decided to transfer the plant to federal owners. Since 2005, the main control over the enterprise has gone to Rosoboronexport.

Crisis of 2008-2009, government support and partnership with Renault

From 2005 to 2009, the plant changed three general directors: Igor Esipovsky, Vladimir Artyakov and Boris Alyoshin. In 2007, AvtoVAZ began production of the Lada Priora. In general, in 2006-2008, AvtoVAZ managed to achieve a production volume of 810,000 vehicles per year.

At the end of 2007, Sergei Chemezov, at the board of directors of AvtoVAZ, announced the intention of the French Renault to acquire a 25% stake in the enterprise. In the spring of 2008, the deal took place, and by the fall, Renault, Russian Technologies and Troika Dialog became the main shareholders of the company - they each had about 25% of AvtoVAZ shares. The remaining 25% remained with minority shareholders.

In 2009, the company found itself in a difficult position. Due to the economic crisis and reduced demand, AvtoVAZ produced only 295,000 vehicles, which is 2.74 times less than last year. Because of this, a significant part of the employees was sent on partially paid leave; in August, the plant's conveyor was stopped.

In 2009, the company's losses amounted to 35 billion rubles, Igor Komarov, then the president-general director of AvtoVAZ, reported. The enterprise's debts to banks by 2009 exceeded 37 billion rubles.

On March 30, 2009, the Russian government decided to allocate 25 billion rubles to Russian Technologies to support AvtoVAZ. The state corporation was supposed to transfer this amount to the enterprise in the form of an interest-free loan for a year. Also, the AvtoVAZ model range fell under the program of subsidizing interest rates on car loans.

Another measure to save the plant was major cuts. In the second half of 2009, the number of employees was reduced by 27.6 thousand people, the average number of employees was about 75 thousand people.

At the same time, many experts and departments agreed that the largest Russian automobile plant is not viable, and its support by the state does not make sense. So, in November 2009, the Ministry of Industry and Trade declared the enterprise “de facto bankrupt”. And German Gref stated that the car factory was not able to cope with the crisis on its own and assumed that the only chance for the company was to sell it to a foreign partner.

By 2011-2012, the production volume of the plant reached the level of 500-590 thousand cars per year. In the same year, the production of the Lada Largus car and the Lada Granta modification with an automatic transmission began. The following year, the company introduced the updated Lada Kalina.

In 2011, Steve Mattin, a former designer of Volvo and Mercedes-Benz cars, became the chief designer of AvtoVAZ. In 2012, the Moscow design studio AvtoVAZ was opened. It was under the leadership of Mattin that a new corporate identity of the company and the appearance of new models - Lada Vesta and Lada XRAY - were created.

In 2013, Igor Komarov left the position of AvtoVAZ General Director in connection with the transfer to Roscosmos. His chair was taken by Bo Andersson, who had previously headed the GAZ Group for 4 years.

In the same year, the current ownership structure of the plant took shape. OJSC AvtoVAZ is 74.5% owned by Alliance Rostec Auto B.V., in which 67.13% of the shares are owned by the Renault-Nissan alliance and the remaining 32.87% by the state corporation Rostec.

Bo Andersson, Lada Vesta and XRAY, cuts and new management

Bo Andersson was remembered for his unusual manner of doing business for AvtoVAZ - for example, on his first working days, he ordered to ensure perfect cleanliness in all the premises of the plant. Plant veterans found similarities in leadership style between the Swede and the first director of VAZ, Viktor Polyakov.

Bo Andersson also forced his subordinates to use AvtoVAZ cars for official purposes, and ordered Infiniti corporate foreign cars to be sold. The Swede himself used the car Lada Largus Cross.

Andersson's profile on Linkedin indicates that over 2 years of work, two new models were launched - Lada Vesta and Lada XRAY, the number of management levels at the enterprise was reduced from nine to five, and the number of company personnel was reduced from 70 to 44.4 thousand people.

One of the most important problems of the enterprise at the time of Andersson's arrival was the image of the company. In the spring of 2015, the company introduced a new logo and corporate identity, which was supposed to mark a new milestone in the development of the brand.

In 2015, the production of two new Lada models - Vesta and XRAY - began. Lada Vesta is a B-class car with a new "X-shaped" design. It is assembled on the Lada B platform in Izhevsk and Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan). According to the official website of AvtoVAZ, a car in the minimum configuration can be bought for 499 thousand rubles.

In April 2016, car dealerships recorded a sharp increase in sales of Lada Vesta, RBC reported. If in January the monthly sales of the new model were 1.6 thousand units, by April the sales level was 4.6 thousand units. According to data for June, 5.1 thousand cars of this brand were sold. Initially, AvtoVAZ planned to sell 50-60 thousand cars of this model in 2016, with an average monthly sales of 4-5 thousand cars.
