Ford Focus 3 in the sedan version was presented in the winter of 2014 in Geneva. Almost immediately it became clear that the cars would amaze with their restyling. The car changed its headlights, bumpers. The third generation of this car, which is undoubtedly popular in the Russian Federation, appeared in 2011, but over the years it has lost its leading positions in terms of sales volume plans. It may seem to some that the company is a little late with the update. The entire range of Ford.

Exterior

The concept of the design appearance of the third Focus family is based on the Iosis Max concept car, however, the sedan version has become longer, but lower than its predecessor. Interior

The interior has never been a Ford Focus advantage. Even after switching to the 3rd family, this did not solve most of the problems. Restyling did not help. Of course, the interior has become more beautiful and elegant. Finishing has now become more refined and rich, however, the interior in ergonomics has changed almost nothing. You can't call it very comfortable and spacious.

The updated interior received a new center console with a lower load on the elements of various vehicle adjustments. The handbrake handle is now much more convenient. They also worked on noise isolation, a new three-spoke steering wheel and a brand new multimedia system that can support voice control.


Ford Focus 3 interior

A quieter and more comfortable ride is achieved through the use of thicker and more modern insulation materials that have been applied to the floor, side windows and powertrain compartment. The instrument panel and doors received a brushed chrome finish, as well as a new switchgear.

The company decided to keep the existing kinetic design. The "Board" of devices has a backlight with pleasant blue tones. It houses the speed sensor and the engine speed sensor. The luggage compartment, even after the upgrade and assignment of the 3rd generation, has not changed in volume - the sedan still has 372 liters of usable space.

If you take the interior of a Ford Focus station wagon, then it is almost the same as the rest of the body versions. But there is a little more space for the second row of seats, so rear passengers can sit more comfortably.

The new engine for the updated sedan will be a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine that produces 150 horses. A similar power unit was adapted to Russian working conditions, so you can confidently fill it with the 92nd.

Transmission

The 1.6-liter 105-horsepower engine is synchronized with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed PowerShift robotic gearbox, it is also set to 5. With a manual gearbox, the sedan picks up the first hundred in 12.4 seconds. and develops a top speed of up to 189 km / h.

The robotic box allows you to reach the mark of 100 km / h in 13.2 seconds, and the top speed is 186 km / h. If we talk about fuel consumption, then the manual box is the leader here - in combined mode, the indicator remains at the level of 6.0 liters (6.4 liters with a robot).


Transmission

Together with the younger brother, the 125-horsepower unit works with a 5-speed manual or robotic. On the mechanics, the engine allows you to reach the first hundred in exactly 11 seconds and accelerates the car to 198 km / h. With the robot, the indicators are slightly lower - 11.8 sec. - so much is needed to reach the mark of 100 km / h, and the maximum speed is 195 km / h.

The choice of gearbox for the top engine is not provided, so it comes only with a robotic PowerShift, which allows you to reach the first hundred in just 9.2 seconds, providing a top speed of 204 km / h. In addition to its dynamism, the engine is distinguished by excellent economical qualities - its consumption is the same 6.4 liters as the weakest engine.

The work of the brand new 1.5-liter 150-horsepower "engine" EcoBoost will be synchronized with a robotic gearbox. To the value of 100 km / h, the car will drive 9.3 seconds, and the top speed will be at the level of 210 km / h. 6.7 liters per 100 km - this consumption will be in combined mode. The drive, as it was before, is front-wheel drive.

Suspension

The suspension has been retuned to improve ride comfort. The car also has McPherson independent suspension at the front, and an independent multi-link suspension at the rear.

Steering

A rack and pinion type is used as a steering mechanism and is complemented by an electric amplifier. Work was carried out to reconfigure the power steering, which is now more informative, almost all bushings and silent blocks were replaced with more durable ones.

In September 2009, the car was shown at the Frankfurt exhibition as a concept car already in the back of a European one. The model could move on a single charge up to 120 kilometers, and the maximum speed was at the level of 137 km/h. It took from 6 to 8 hours to fully charge the battery (meaning a 230 and 210 V network).

During the winter in Cologne, the management of General Motors announced that the construction of the car in America would take place under the name Focus Electric. In the spring of 2010, the company announced the launch of the production of an electric car in 2012. Lithium-ion batteries for cars were supplied by Compact Power Inc., which is a subsidiary of the LG Chem group.

It was she who was previously chosen by GM for the Chevrolet Volt. Initially, the production of batteries will be launched in Korea with additional assembly in the United States of America, and later production will begin in Michigan (USA). The Ford Focus Electric began to be produced on December 14, 2011.

The preparation of the new Ford Focus 4 was brought to the “final chord” - the main work of the development department was completed, so at the moment the car is being fine-tuned. Journalists managed to spot prototype versions in camouflage on the road. Together with the body, the windshield and the hatch of the gas tank have changed. This was achieved by using the latest materials during the production of the body. The latest materials have become not only less weight, but also do not lose in rigidity.

The most important body solution in European countries remains a 5-door hatchback, but they plan to sell both sedan and station wagon models. In addition, an “off-road” version of Active may come out, which has plastic body linings and slightly increased ground clearance.

No one excludes that fourth-generation cars will come with an all-wheel drive system - then the transmission will switch from a single-platform crossover. The European list of power units will be slightly reduced - the base naturally aspirated 1.6-liter 85-horsepower engine will no longer go. The standard engine will be a turbocharged 3-cylinder 1.0 EcoBoost, but the number of boost options will increase from 2 to 3 (100, 125 and 139 horsepower).

There is also a gasoline EcoBoost with a volume of 1 to 2.3 liters. It is represented by a four-cylinder "engine" that develops up to 180 "horses". Do not forget to indicate the presence of petrol turbocharged 1.5 and 2.0-liter engines. Among the "diesels" remains the only 1.5-liter TDCi, which today is produced in versions for 95, 105 and 120 "horses". The two-liter engine, probably, is planned to be installed only on the "charged" version of the ST. On top of that, the brand will retain a full-fledged electric car.

The motors are synchronized with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission equipped with Power Shift proprietary dual clutch. There are also rumors that the 4th generation Ford Focus will receive a new 9-speed automatic transmission.

Paying attention to the spy photo of the interior, you can see that the shape of the front panel is now more concise and looks like a brand new one. It is planned that this will affect the spaciousness inside the hatchback, as the current model takes up a lot of space with a large panel installed.

Autocar employees cited one of Ford's design team as saying they went overboard with the front fascia of the 3rd generation Focus and 6th generation Fiesta. It is still not easy to speak definitely about the exterior of the 4th generation Ford Focus, however, judging by the photographs, it becomes clear that the rear pillars of the car no longer have small windows, and the lamps installed at the back will come out on the luggage compartment lid, which has never been typical for the model .

But there are a little more complaints about the gearboxes that were installed on the third generation Ford Focus. In the "mechanics", for example, after a run of 10 thousand kilometers, the oil seal of the right axle shaft could begin to leak. And all because of the incomplete fit of the stuffing box on the conveyor, which led to damage to its edge. Over time, of course, the problem was solved, but the owners of the Focus with a manual gearbox still had an unpleasant aftertaste. There are also complaints about the PowerShift dual-clutch transmission. When driving for a long time in sluggish traffic jams, it begins to shift gears with noticeable jerks. However, to call it absolutely problem-free will not work with all desire. And all because with the onset of frost, the Focus suspension begins to make extraneous sounds. The motor remained as reliable as the previous Focus. The only drawback is the small resource of the attachment belt.

On two cars there were problems with gearboxes: both jammed in the second one (the same trouble happened to our editorial "Focus"). The dealer replaced the boxes under warranty, but did not want to disclose the details of the defect. The clutch was changed on five cars with a run of about 40,000 km. But here the reason is rather in not very careful operation. Oddly enough, none of the machines have leaked the right gearbox oil seal, although this is a fairly common phenomenon.

The weak point in the suspension was the front wheel bearings and rear shock absorbers. Their resource is very low. Shock absorbers do not tolerate a full load of the car: they were changed on 32 cars after 25,000 km of run. The resource of new spare parts is about the same. The front support bearings turned out to be twice as survivable as those of the editorial "Focus": they are enough for 80,000 km. The front shock absorbers were changed only on two cars after 70,000 km.

The electric rail is working flawlessly so far. It turned out to be more reliable than the previous hydraulic one, which was changed due to knocks on all machines even before 160,000 km of run.

Driver's windows are often fooled: in automatic mode, they work every other time. There were no other problems with the cabin electrics.

Heated windshields are very delicate and constantly crack from temperature changes.

On the third "Focus" much less often than on its predecessor, the bulbs in the headlights burn out. And the engineers also got rid of water getting into the trunk lid lock mechanism (it often jammed on Focus 2).
