Crossover Lexus RX270 is a lightweight modification of the famous crossover. The appearance of a more affordable RX sample in the Russian markets contributes to an increase in interest in the model. Of course, the 2.7-liter engine is not particularly impressive in terms of performance, but at the same time it does not inspire boredom - this is quite a decent displacement by today's standards. But is 188 hp enough for a two-ton crossover?

The very first meters of the path dispelled all my fears: the in-line “four” and the 6-speed “automatic” make an excellent tandem. The car catered to my whims exactly: it crawled insinuatingly in a traffic jam, and responded to my requests to accelerate sharply at a traffic light with an enthusiastic jump. This was the first pleasant disappointment.

The ambush, as it turned out, was completely different. The Lexus-RX-270 is the only defective member of the Rex family: it alone does not have all-wheel drive. There was too much torque falling exclusively on the front wheels: with any at least somewhat dynamic start from a standstill, the car starts to slip, impatiently crawling with wide paws even on dry asphalt. Half-melted slurry or a thin layer of snow lead him into a state of even greater frenzy - he begins to furiously rub his front wheels along the road, demonstrating inappropriate enthusiasm. And although the stabilization system firmly keeps it on the right track, not allowing it to scour and leave the given trajectory, such a “replay” somehow does not fit in with the image of an expensive car. But this is also an additional load on the tires, which even in the 18-inch size cost decent money! For the all-wheel drive version, such a show of force was not observed.

The reverse side of the same medal was not slow to appear outside the city. Escorting me to the famous monastery near Yaroslavl, navigation categorically demanded to turn off the asphalt onto the forest road, and I imprudently fell for the provocation. There seemed to be no particular reason to worry: the snow track, although winding, but excellently rolled, did not promise serious tests. However, it soon branched into two tendrils, which rested on the unraveled virgin soil around an unknown summer cottage. Moving backwards five kilometers to the track was unrealistic due to the many sharp turns, and I made a risky and erroneous decision to turn around at this "crossroads". The car, which only slightly jumped off the track, immediately dug in to the full depth of its small ground clearance. Picking up a shovel and tearing him a wide way to retreat, I again got behind the wheel. But the car stubbornly did not want to follow the paved path, but purposefully climbed deeper and deeper into the snowdrift and sat down on its belly over and over again, showing good sapper skills. After three hours of torment, with the disabling of all the stabilization systems found in the menu, I still managed to install the Lexus on the lost road with its face facing the highway. Behind him were a couple of hectares of dug up snow and a completely spoiled entrance to the holiday village.

It is clear that the crossover is not an SUV. But no one demanded from the car some unimaginable feats. The task was quite within the power of an ordinary passenger car. However, the lack of all-wheel drive, a large mass and a fairly powerful engine, with their inconsistency in actions, reminded the characters from Krylov's famous fable. However, there is one weighty argument in favor of the RX270: the more capable all-wheel drive Rex is 700,000 rubles more expensive.

To date, the model has received a certain distribution among domestic drivers, which allows us to summarize some information about the operation of the Lexus.

What do you hear about the engine?

The model is equipped, as already mentioned, with a 2.7-liter power unit. In the Russian market, this engine is offered in a 188-horsepower version and is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. As the owners say, for such an engine, the car behaves very well, however, there is still not enough power.

“Accelerating dynamics is good, of course, but just a little something is missing. I don't know, power, I guess.
