Fuse blocks installed on old and updated versions of VAZ 2109 cars serve to combine all electrical wiring.

The main task of the PSU is to prevent breakdowns of electrical equipment installed in the car.

Scheme

The entire line of VAZ 2109 cars can be divided into two branches - produced before 1998 and produced after 1998.

Old cars are equipped with fuse boxes, the marking of which is 17.3722. This PSU consists of a case and an engineering board. Wire contacts, fuses and relays are soldered to the board.

Newer versions of nines, the release of which took place since 1998, here the PSU is marked 2114-3722010-60. Here we are already seeing fuses.

If we talk about fuse boxes, the factor of the fuel injection system used - carburetor or injector - plays absolutely no role. BP will differ only by the year of manufacture of the car. Therefore, the mounting blocks for the carburetor and injector are the same.

The desired mounting block is also located everywhere in the same way - in the engine compartment opposite the driver's seat, almost under the very windshield.

Differences

Are there any differences between the old and new versions of the PSU? Of course. They are as follows:

  • Mounting block parts are marked differently;
  • The fuse rating is different;
  • The new PSU does not have a cooling fan motor relay and a rear window washer time relay.

PSU of the old model

Let us first consider the old-style PSUs, which are still quite common on VAZ 2109 cars. And, as we have already said, both with injection and carburetor engines.

It is necessary not only to understand the location of a particular fuse, relay, but also to know how to replace a failed element.

Dismantling and replacement

If one or another equipment is out of order, you must first check the condition of the fuse responsible for it.

In practice, it is not difficult to remove and remove a fuse or relay that is no longer suitable. For this you need:

  • Raise the hood and disconnect the minus from the battery. Since you are working with the fuse box responsible for electrical equipment, the car should not be energized at this moment;
  • Find the mounting block. It is located in the engine compartment opposite the driver's seat directly under the windshield. The block is covered with a plastic cover from above. To remove it, simply press the latches on the sides;
  • Remove the cover and look at the back of it. There is a wiring diagram, where the location of one or another fuse, relay is indicated. Just find the element that is responsible for the failed equipment according to the tables above;
  • Remove fuse. All mounting blocks are provided with special tongs. Manual removal of fuses is not recommended. Relays are removed by slight wiggles up and down;
  • Replace the failed component.

The failure of the fuse is determined by the melted thread. These are fusible elements that melt and close the contacts, preventing the equipment from being damaged by excessive voltage.

Everything, it remains only to replace the element of the fuse box, close the cover, put the battery terminal back in place and check the operation of the equipment.

Where is the fuse box VAZ 21099 carburetor diagram located? The board itself is located under the hood on the left side of the windshield and is covered by a lid. It also draws a conditional connection diagram for each of the fuses and their rating (indicated in the allowable current range, that is, in amperes). The VAZ mounting block itself is closed in a plastic case. There are also spare fuses (on the sides). However, in the "nine" there is also a second block, which is already located in the passenger compartment. Here are the fuses that are responsible for connecting the power circuit to the fuel pump and some other components.

Diagram of the fuse block in the VAZ 21099

First of all, it is worth noting that in the VAZ 21099 of a new type, which have been produced since 1998, new PSU variations with U-shaped fuses were installed.

The principle of operation is the same, but the elements are not interchangeable. It is advisable to take this aspect into account when repairing or replacing fuses. The new type of power supply has a signal circuit that goes to the instrument panel. This is an indicator that lights up when a malfunction occurs in the operation of the unit itself and the electrical circuit. In older cars, this circuit was absent. In some cars, it was transferred to the airbag (operation indicator).

The diagram of the mounting block (PICTURE 1), which is located under the hood, is located on the cover from the inside. This is a conditional diagram with marks where each of the fuses is located and for which circuit it is responsible. Also, the scheme of the mounting block VAZ 2109 is additionally printed in the operating instructions for the vehicle. Using it, you can in a matter of seconds find the location of any of the electrical circuits, which provides the necessary information for diagnosing the contact of the electrical circuit. But at the same time, some of them connect several chains. For example, F4 is not only a cigarette lighter fuse, but also a relay that is responsible for rear window heating (if provided) and a portable lighting lamp connector.

If we consider the fuse box VAZ 21099 injector (without carburetor), then the connection diagram is identical there. The only exception is that some of the circuits will not be closed, but this is normal. As always, it can be compared with a conditional diagram, which is duplicated on the cover of the mounting block.

Image 1. Scheme of the mounting block.

A few words about the fuses themselves

A fuse is just a piece of conductor with a certain resistance and a maximum allowable critical load. If the specified range is overcome, its inner part simply burns out, and the electrical circuit breaks, preventing the wiring (and its insulation) from igniting.

In the car, for each of the electrical circuits, their own current limits are set. For example, the one that is responsible for the operation of the VAZ cigarette lighter is designed for 20 amperes. Naturally, if you put a fuse of a smaller rating here, then it will simply burn out at the slightest excess of its norm. If you put it with a higher rating, then when the permissible value is exceeded, the electrical wiring will ignite. Therefore, doing so is unacceptable and is considered a violation of elementary safety standards for the operation of the vehicle.

Spare parts are initially placed in the VAZ 21099 fuse box directly from the factory. They are located on both sides of the main board. In the VAZ 2108, it’s exactly the same, but only the relays responsible for the operation of the fuel pump and rear window heating (as well as the radio) are placed inside the cabin.

Interestingly, the largest possible load on the fuse box is on the circuit connecting the electric window lifts. There, the maximum current can be 30 amperes. In the blocks of the new sample, it was replaced with a standard of 20 amperes.

How to replace fuses correctly? For this you will need:

  • turn off the motor;
  • remove the negative terminal from the battery. It is advisable to wait a few more minutes to eliminate the residual voltage;
  • remove the cover of the fuse block 2109;
  • use a multimeter to find a failed fuse;
  • check the circuit for a short circuit;
  • install a new fuse;
  • apply voltage to the circuit and make sure that there is no repeated overload.

In no case should repairs be carried out using non-original components, and even more so by replacing them with third-party conductors. Among Russian drivers, there is a popular tendency to put 5-kopeck coins instead of a fuse (this can be done on an old-style "nine"). By doing this, you need to be aware that you can not only burn all the electronics of the car, but also cause a fire!

How to check the operation of an electrical circuit?

In order to check the VAZ 2109 unit for operability, it is enough to test each of the circuits with a multimeter.

In variations of the carburetor motor, this is extremely simple, since the contacts of the block are completely open. If multiple breaks are found, it will be cheaper and easier to simply replace the entire block. A new sample will do, and even from 2114 - they are used there identically.

If only one of the parts of the block works, then you will have to look for a broken chain. The search will make it easier to know the following rules:

  • if the circuit responsible for powering the stove does not work, then you need to look for the faulty element with F4 or F7. The latter is responsible for the operation of the fan, which blows warm air into the cabin;
  • replacement of the cigarette lighter will be required if several circuits do not work at once: F4, F10, block 7;
  • relay F7 is responsible for the washers, the cartridge of a portable lamp and the rear window brushes;
  • if the fuel pump malfunctions, the “culprit” is the fuse board, which is located on the left side of the steering wheel (in the passenger compartment).

These are the malfunctions that drivers most often have to deal with.

Dealing with the fuse box in the VAZ 21099 carburetor is quite simple. The hardest part is finding the defective element. But fixing the problem is not difficult if spare fuses are available. In VAZ 21099, unlike VAZ 2108, they are provided by the manufacturer. Do not forget to restore them in a timely manner if necessary.

The VAZ 2109 mounting block is designed to combine wire harnesses, as well as to place relays and fuses. On the first models, a mounting block of type 17.3722 was used. It consists of a case consisting of two parts, and a printed circuit board on which the leads are soldered for connection to the wiring harness blocks, installation of relays and fuses. Below is a schematic diagram of the mounting block VAZ 2109 type 17.3722.

On the latest models, a VAZ 2109 mounting block of type 2114-3722010-60 is used. This unit uses blade type fuses. The contact connection of such fuses is more reliable since they have a large contact area.

The interchangeability of the connectors of the wiring harness plugs is identical with block 17.3722. The designations of the fuses and protected circuits are somewhat different. The scheme of the mounting block VAZ 2109 is shown below

On cars with an injection engine, mounting blocks similar to 2114-3722010-60 are used, but they have a different radiator connection.
The location of the mounting block plugs is shown below.

(hereinafter - PSU) is necessary in order to combine all the wires of the electrical wiring, as well as to prevent the failure of electrical equipment. In Russian-made cars, owners often face the problem of non-working appliances. Therefore, every owner of the VAZ 2109 should know the location and purpose of the block elements.

Location and wiring diagram

On older models (manufactured before 1998), the relay and fuse mounting block is marked 17.3722. This device consists of a plastic case, which, in turn, has a bottom and a cover, as well as an engineering board. It is to this board that the wire contacts are soldered, and fuses and relays are installed.

As for newer car models, that is, those released after 1998, the PSUs in them are marked with the numbers 2114-3722010-60. Fuses are installed in them (hereinafter - PP) and these blocks differ from each other by the electrical circuit and some nuances in the purpose of the elements. It is worth noting that regardless of whether you have an injection car or a carburetor, the device and electrical circuit of the PSU will depend on the year of manufacture, and not on the type of fuel supply.

We are reporting this to dispel the myth that circulates among Russian motorists. Drivers seriously believe that the circuit and device of the unit depends on the fuel supply system, but we assure you that this is not the case.

As for the location, in the VAZ 2109 the fuse box is installed in the engine compartment opposite the driver's seat, under the windshield.

The main difference between these two types of PSU is:

  • different designation of device parts;
  • different fuse ratings;
  • in addition, the manufacturer decided that when developing a new power supply, it is necessary to remove the fan motor relay of the cooling system, as well as the device time relay.

Marking 17.3722

In turn, consider the wiring diagram of the old-style power supply, as well as the purpose of the fuses. As we said at the beginning of the article, a power supply unit with such a scheme can be found in the VAZ 2109, both equipped with an injection and carburetor engine.

If you are the owner and, for example, the fuse for the stove or the fuse for the fuel pump is out of order, then it will be useful for you to know the purpose of the block parts.

The purpose of the components of the old type PSU

In addition, information about the purpose of the relay will be useful to you. It is presented below.

Numberpurpose
1 Responsible for the operation of the headlight cleaning elements.
2 This relay determines the performance of the rear window washer motor.
3 This component protects against failure of the turn signal lamps, as well as light signaling.
4 Protects the windshield wiper motor from damage.
5 With these jumpers, you can determine whether the lamp is working or not.
6 This component protects the heated rear window from overvoltage.
8 High beam headlight bulbs.
9 Low beam headlights.
11 Without this device, the operation of the engine cooling fan will not be possible. If this device breaks down, there is a possibility of overheating of the motor.
12 Responsible for the operation of the horn.

Marking 2114-3722010-60

Now consider the wiring diagram and the purpose of the parts of the block of a new sample. As mentioned above, this scheme will be relevant for both injection and carburetor internal combustion engines.

Removal and replacement process

In practice, owners of the VAZ 2109 often encounter a problem when it fails, the lamps on the instrument panel, the stove or the gas pump do not work. If it is the software that is to blame for the non-working state of the electrical equipment, then you should replace it. In principle, the process of change is no different. The difference lies only in the power supply circuit and the different housing of the PP itself.

For carburetor and injection engines

  1. First of all, you need to open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Remember that all repairs related to the PSU must be carried out with the battery turned off.
  2. Under the windshield near the driver's seat, find the PSU. It is protected by a plastic cover. Squeeze out the latches on its sides to dismantle the cover.
  3. Remove the cover and on the reverse side you can see the wiring diagram, which shows the location and purpose of each component. If you need to replace a part responsible for the operation of the stove, cigarette lighter, fuel pump or other equipment, then find it on the diagram or use our manual. After that, remove the PP with your hands or with special tongs. If you are changing the relay, then dismantle it by wiggling it up and down.
  4. Replace the burned-out part with a new one of the appropriate rating. You can determine a burned-out PP by a broken fusible thread. Perform the entire installation in reverse order. Connect the negative battery terminal.
On the left side relative to the movement of the car under the windshield, you will find a black block in which all the software and relays are installed. Remove the cover by pressing the tabs on the side.
