Fuel filter for Toyota Corolla 120/130 (ninth generation) and 140/150 (tenth generation) differ from each other in design and size. Also within each generation there are differences depending on the type of engines.

On all cars of both generations with gasoline engines, in addition to the main fuel filter (fine filter), there is also a mesh (coarse filter, pump filter). It serves for the primary screening of large particles of debris that may be in the fuel tank.

The main manufacturer of original fuel filters for the Corolla 150 and 120 is Denso.

Fuel filter for Corolla 120

On the ninth generation Toyota Corolla (2000-2006) with 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 petrol engines, the fuel filter is located in the gas tank. It is mounted in a special fuel assembly (module) together with a pump, a mesh filter and sensors. To get to the module, you need to raise the rear seat in the cabin, and unscrew the hatch under it, which holds this fuel unit. The number of the required filter will differ depending on the year of manufacture of the car, as well as on what body it is in.

Unlike many other cars, where the main fuel fine filter is also located in the tank, assembled with a pump, on the Corolla it can be changed separately from the entire structure, and it has its own original article number.

The most purchased analogues are presented in the table below.

The filter mesh also differed depending on the year of installation. Until 2004, they installed 2321723010, the most popular analogue is Blue Print ADT32401C, the price is 800 rubles. After 2004, a mesh was installed under the article number 232170D090, a popular substitute is LEDO 80014LFFB, the price is 70 rubles.

Fuel filter for Corolla 120 diesel

On Toyota Corolla 120 with diesel engines 1.4 and 2.0, the fuel filter is removed from the tank and located in the engine compartment, which makes access to it much more convenient than on gasoline cars. It does not differ in any way depending on the engine size or configuration. The article of the original is 2339033030. The spare part is made in a metal case, has a thread for connection.

The most commonly used analogues can be selected below from the list.

Fuel filter for Toyota Corolla 150

On the tenth generation Toyota Corolla with gasoline engines 1.33, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, the main fuel filter, as well as on the previous one, is located in the tank, in the fuel unit. It differs depending on the size of the engine. On the Toyota Auris, which, in fact, is a Corolla 150 hatchback, the same fuel filters are installed, with the same article numbers.

The most commonly used substitutes are listed below.

The pump filter mesh does not have a separate article, as it comes with the pump, and you can not change it, but simply rinse it. If a replacement is needed, then most often they take a non-original one, LEDO 80010LFFB, the price is 290 rubles.

Fuel filter for Corolla 150 diesel

On diesel Toyota Corolla 150 with engine sizes of 1.4 and 2.0, the fuel filter, like on its predecessor, is placed under the hood, located next to the engine. It does not differ in any way depending on the configuration of the car, or the size of the engines. It has a metal body, threaded connection. The article of the original spare part is 2339026160.

Analogues that are most often installed instead of the original can be found below.

When to change the fuel filter on a Corolla?

According to the manufacturer's recommendations, the fuel filter on Toyota Corolla 120/150 with gasoline engines must be changed every 80 thousand kilometers. The pump screen can simply be washed with carburetor cleaning fluid - Carb Cleaner. On cars with diesel engines, it is necessary to replace the fuel filter every 20 thousand km.

It is also worth remembering that if the car is operated in difficult conditions, then it is better to reduce the frequency of replacing the fuel filter by 1.5 times.

The fuel filter cleans the fuel from foreign impurities, preventing them from entering the highway. During operation, a gradual contamination of the filter element occurs. Because of this, the fuel pump experiences an additional load that reduces its resource.

If the filter is very dirty, the required amount of fuel is no longer supplied to the nozzles. Because of this, the power unit begins to work unstably, and the Toyota Corolla 150 loses momentum.

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

The original Toyota Corolla 150 fuel filter has a catalog number 7702412050. Its price ranges from 3500 to 6000 rubles. Other branded Toyota products with part numbers 77024-12030 and 77024-02100 are also suitable for the Corolla 150. Their cost is in the range from 3 to 7 thousand rubles.

In addition to the original fuel filters, there are quite good analogues from third-party manufacturers. The list of their best options is given in the table below.

Table - Analogues of the fuel filter for the Corolla 150 car

Fuel filter replacement interval

The service life of the filter directly depends on the quality of the poured gasoline. In foreign countries, the filter element can serve without replacement throughout the entire operation of the vehicle.

The average recommended mileage when using domestic gasoline is 80 thousand km. In the case of refueling only at proven gas stations, the interval can be increased to 120 thousand km. If there are frequent cases of buying fuel at gas stations with fuel of dubious quality, then the mileage should be reduced to 50-60 thousand km.

Clogging symptoms

It is quite difficult to identify obvious symptoms of clogging of the filter element. This is due to the fact that the throughput of the filter decreases gradually. Therefore, its clogging can only be judged by indirect symptoms. The most common manifestations of the need to pay attention to the fuel filter are:

  • the engine under load is unstable;
  • the dynamics of the car is gradually deteriorating;
  • the power unit periodically stalls, especially during intense acceleration;
  • the engine does not start the first time;
  • the sound of the fuel pump has changed, it is felt that it is working in tightness.

Required Tools

In order for the replacement of the fuel filter on the Corolla 150 to be successful, the tools from the table below are required.

Replacing the fuel filter on a Corolla 150

Replacing the fuel filter on the Corolla 150 is carried out according to the recommended instructions, which are given below.

  • Remove rear seat. To do this, it is necessary to lift the seats and, with a little effort, release their fasteners from the grooves that are located on the body.

  • Remove trim. A technological hatch will open under it.

  • Using a flat blade screwdriver, pry off the cover and remove it. In case of difficulties and too strong adhesion of the hatch, it is necessary to warm it along the contour with a hair dryer.

  • Clean the area under the cover with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Relieve system pressure. To do this, disconnect the fuel pump terminal block and start the engine. When the engine stalls, you can continue to dismantle the fuel filter.
  • Disconnect the supply and return hoses. To do this, press the clamps and pull up or to the side to disconnect the tubes.

  • Unscrew the 8 fasteners of the fuel module cover.
  • Carefully remove the fuel filter. At the same time, fuel should not get on the body.

  • If it is planned to replace the fuel filter with a module, then it is necessary to insert a new one in place of the withdrawn unit. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order to dismantling. Since the cost of the fuel filter module is high, many car owners change only the coarse mesh filter element. To do this, you need to disassemble the fuel module.

  • Assemble everything in the reverse order of removal.

High-quality fuel cleaning and uninterrupted engine operation under any operating conditions depend on the cleanliness of the filter. Therefore, Toyota Corolla is one of the most important operations in car maintenance. The design of the machine allows you to make a change with your own hands.

Where is the fuel filter located?

The fuel filter on modern Toyota Corolla cars is located in the fuel module inside the tank. This arrangement of the filter is standard for cars equipped with an engine with distributed fuel injection. On earlier models (produced before 2000), the filter is located in the engine compartment and is attached to the engine shield.

Replacement frequency

The manufacturer does not stipulate filter replacement as routine maintenance, and this equally applies to Toyota Corolla in 120 and 150 series bodies. Many services, based on the realities of car operation in Russia, recommend a preventive replacement every 70-80 thousand kilometers. Replacement can be made earlier, subject to the appearance of signs of contamination of the filter element. Since 2012, in the Russian-language service literature for Toyota Corolla, the filter replacement interval has been indicated every 80 thousand km.

Choosing a filter

In the fuel intake module at the inlet there is a coarse mesh filter, inside the module itself there is a fine fuel filter. For replacement, you can use original parts and their analogues. Before buying a filter, it is advisable to clarify the model installed on the machine.

When choosing original fine cleaning parts, it should be borne in mind that the Corolla in the 120th body was equipped with two types of filters. On the first releases from 2002 to June 2004, a part with catalog number 77024-12010 was used. On machines from June 2004 until the end of production in 2007, a filter with a modified design was used (art. no. 77024-02040). On the 150th body, a single filter option was installed (number 77024-12030 or a larger assembly option 77024-12050).

In addition, Corolla 120 cars were produced for the Japanese domestic market under the designation Toyota Fielder. These machines use a fine filter with the original number 23217-23010.

Analogues

The coarse fuel filter is usually not changed, but in case of damage it can be replaced with a non-original Masuma MPU-020 part.

Many owners, due to the high cost of original filters, begin to look for more affordable parts with a similar design. However, for cars in the 120th body, such parts simply do not exist.

For the 150th body, there are a number of cheaper analogues, from the manufacturers JS Asakashi (FS21001 number) or Masuma (part number MFF-T138). For those who want to save money, there is a very cheap version of the Shinko filter (SHN633).

For Fielder, there are similar Asakashi (JN6300) or Masuma (MFF-T103) filters.

Replacement for Corolla 120 body

Before starting work, it is necessary to empty the tank as much as possible, preferably before the reserve fuel remaining lamp turns on. This is necessary to minimize the risk of spilling gasoline on the upholstery.

Tools

Before replacing the filter, prepare the following materials and tools:

  • screwdriver with a thin flat sting;
  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • pliers for dismantling the spring clip;
  • rags for wiping;
  • a flat container over which the pump is disassembled.

Step-by-step instruction

Action algorithm:

  1. Raise the left rear seat cushion and fold back the noise insulation mat to gain access to the hatch of the fuel intake module.
  2. Clean the installation site of the hatch and the hatch itself from dirt.
  3. Unfasten the hatch installed on a special thick mastic with a screwdriver. The mastic is reusable, it should not be removed from the mating surfaces of the hatch and the body.
  4. Wipe off accumulated dirt from the fuel module cover.
  5. Disconnect the power connector from the fuel pump block.
  6. Start the engine to run out the pressurized fuel in the line. If you neglect this item, then gasoline will flood the car interior when the tube is removed.
  7. Disconnect two pipes from the module: fuel supply to the engine and fuel return from the adsorber. The pressure tube is clamped to the module by a retainer that slides sideways. The second tube is fixed with a conventional ring spring clip.
  8. Unscrew the eight screws with a Phillips screwdriver and carefully remove the module from the tank cavity. When removing the module, it is important not to damage the side-mounted fuel level sensor and the float mounted on a long lever. It is better to carry out further work on the prepared container in order to prevent the ingress of gasoline residues from the module onto the elements of the car interior.
  9. Disconnect the lever latch and remove the float.
  10. Separate the halves of the module housing. The plastic connector clips are located closer to the top of the module. The clips are quite fragile and it is important to carry out this operation carefully.
  11. Remove the fuel pump from the module and disconnect the filter from it. The fuel pump will come out with effort due to the presence of rubber o-rings. It is important not to lose or damage the rings that keep the fuel pressure in place.
  12. Now you can change the fine filter. We blow the module housing and the coarse filter with compressed air.
  13. Assemble and install the module in reverse order.

Replacing the filter on a Corolla 120 hatchback

On a 2006 hatchback car, the fuel filter is installed differently, so the replacement procedure has a number of nuances. Also, such a scheme was used on all 120s of the British assembly Corollas.

Replacement sequence:

  1. The module hatch is mounted on four bolts for a Phillips screwdriver.
  2. The module itself is tightly inserted into the tank body; a special puller is used to remove it.
  3. The module has a completely different appearance. To disassemble it, you must first disconnect the hose at the base of the module. The hose can only be removed after preheating with a hair dryer.
  4. The filter itself with the pump is located inside the module glass and is attached to three latches.
  5. The fuel gauge must be removed to access the filter.
  6. The filter can be removed from the cover of the module only when heated by a hair dryer. The fuel lines will have to be cut. It is important to remember which of the filter tubes is the inlet and which is the outlet, since there is no marking on the body.
  7. Press the pump out of the filter with a 17 mm bolt.
  8. Install a new Toyota 23300-0D020 filter (or an equivalent Masuma MFF-T116) and mount new pipes between the filter and the pump. The tubes must be easily bent, since the pump halves are in a preloaded state in the tank.
  9. The coarse filter is in a glass and is simply washed with carburetor cleaner.
  10. We carry out further assembly and installation in the reverse order.

An important point in the work is to ensure the tightness of the landing of new tubes on the fitting. It is better to check the quality of work before installing the module in the tank using a pump and a soapy solution. According to a number of reviews, the MFF-T116 filter does not fit tightly on the pump. Below is a series of photos explaining the replacement procedure.

Replacement of TF in the 150th body

Replacing the fuel filter with a 2008 Toyota Corolla (or any other) in the 150th body has some differences from a similar procedure on the 120th body. When replacing, ensure that the O-rings are correctly positioned as they hold pressure in the fuel system. Since 2010, a safety system has been used, the essence of which is to operate the fuel pump only when the engine crankshaft rotates. In the absence of residual pressure in the system, the starter has to turn the engine much longer until the pump builds up pressure in the gasoline supply pipe.

Preparation

Since the design of the modules is similar, there are no special requirements for the tools and equipment of the workplace. You will need the same tools and materials as when replacing the filter on machines with a 120 body.

Stages of work

When replacing the filter on the 150th body, there are a number of points that you should pay attention to:

  1. The fuel module is fixed on the tank with a plastic threaded ring equipped with a rubber seal. The ring turns counterclockwise. To remove the ring, you can use a wooden rod, which is attached to the edges of the ring at one end, and lightly hit with a hammer on the second. The second option may be to use the gas wrench handles, which clamp the ring by the ribs.
  2. The module has additional fuel pipes for ventilation of the tank cavity. Disconnecting the tubes is the same.
  3. There are two seals in the module design. The rubber sealing ring 90301-08020 is placed on the fuel pump at the place where it is installed in the filter housing. The second ring 90301-04013 is smaller and fits into the check valve fitting at the bottom of the filter.
  4. When reinstalling, carefully install the nut gasket. Before re-tightening the nut, it is necessary to install it until the marks on the nut itself and on the body (near the fuel hose to the engine) are aligned, and only then tighten it.

The main points of the process are explained in the photographs.

Filter on other Corollas

On the Corolla with a body 100, the filter is located in the engine compartment. To replace it, you must remove the rubber air supply pipe from the filter to the throttle module. The branch pipe is fixed with conventional screw clamps with a 10 mm nut. A fuel pipe, fixed with a 17 mm nut, fits the filter, the filter itself is fixed to the body with two 10 mm bolts. The lower fuel supply hose can be unscrewed through the hole for steering rods in the left arch. There is no pressure in the system, so the flow of gasoline will be negligible. After that, you can install a new filter (often the cheapest SCT ST 780 is used). A similar filtering system is used on the Corolla model 110.

Another option is the right-hand drive model 121 Corolla Fielder, which can be front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The location of the module on it is similar to model 120, but only on machines with all-wheel drive. On such configurations, an additional fuel sensor is installed on the right. In this case, the module itself has only one tube. On machines with front-wheel drive, the module is installed in the center of the body and two pipes go to it.

When removing the module from the tank, it is necessary to remove the additional fuel intake pipe from the second section of the tank. This tube is only on all-wheel drive Fielders. On a front-wheel drive car, there is a conventional pressure regulator valve.

Toyota Corolla is the world's leading car sales leader. It is for this reason that she got into the Guinness Book of Records. Such demand was brought to her by fundamentality, ease of operation, as well as impressive characteristics.

Sedan Corolla 120

Cars of this brand are considered one of the most enduring in the world and rightfully top numerous reliability ratings. But, despite all these aspects, this car needs timely maintenance. In our article, we will conduct a detailed analysis of an important part of this process - replacing the fuel filter and the 150th body.

Hatch leading to the fuel tank

Changing gas filters is important to maintain engine power, avoid problems when starting it, and to extend the life of pistons, piston rings, connecting rods and pins.

Replacing the gas filter in is carried out independently, if the owner of the car has an idea about working with tools of medium complexity.

Spare parts and tools

Before changing the fuel filter to Corolla, you need to prepare. To do this, prepare the necessary tools and materials in advance. We will need:

  • coarse gas filter;
  • fine fuel filter;
  • narrow slot screwdriver for fasteners;
  • Phillips screwdriver.
  • wrench for 8,

Also prepare a large amount of rags and a container of water.

Execution of work

The Corolla gas filter is located in the tank and is part of the fuel pump module, consisting of:

  • fuel pump;
  • primary gas filter - a component that cleans fuel from excess moisture and various impurities;
  • final filter - a component that thoroughly filters fuel from smaller particles;
  • float showing the amount of fuel.

fuel pump cover

Before starting work, it is necessary to drain the fuel from the system so that later it does not fill the car interior with it. To do this, pull the fuse from the fuse box, and leave the engine idling until the fuel pump and line are empty and the engine stalls. Next, open the gas tank cap to relieve pressure. It is also recommended to replace filters with a small amount of fuel in the tank.

Gasoline pump and filters assy

First you need to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Then we remove the rear seat, fixed with two latches and a guide. You need to do this with sharp movements. Under the seat is the gas tank cavity cover with wires connected to it. The cover is secured with sealant and lifted with a flat-tip screwdriver. This frees up the entrance to a small space above the tank, where the fuel system unit is installed. To avoid getting dirt into the tank, you need to clean it with a vacuum cleaner under the place where the seat was, and then above the tank itself.

Now it is possible to assess the degree of contamination of the tank and coarse mesh. The degree of contamination of the fine fuel filter cannot be seen.

The next task is to disassemble the fuel module. To do this, dismantle the float by bending the plastic latch. Then the mesh is removed and the fine filter is disconnected, which is fixed with a rubber gasket.

One latch

When disassembling an old gas filter, it is important not to lose the rubber bands, in case new ones were not purchased. The hardest thing is to remove the rubber band from the top of the gas tank.

We insert the rubber bands into the new filter element, similar to the location in the old one, and complete the design. The coarse filter and the retaining ring become problematic.

Two more latches

Now we return all the details to their place in the sequence in which they were shot. Tighten the nuts again, attach the tubes. But before you put the seat in place, it is worth checking how the system works. To do this, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position, but without starting the car. The operation of the fuel pump should be audible. The sound should be familiar. The metal tank cap is installed using the same sealant, after which the rear seat can be installed in place.

Possible troubles and difficulties

After replacing and placing the fuel pump in the fuel tank, the car may not start the first time. The reason for this may be poor sealing of the fuel pipes, as a result of which the fuel pump does not create sufficient pressure in the line.

Leaky fuel pump pipes

When disconnecting the hoses from the body, you should be careful. The system is pressurized and fuel may splash into the passenger compartment or eyes. It is worth stocking up with a sufficient number of rags for cleaning.

It is also worth being attentive to fire and sparks near the work site, because. after removing the cap, gasoline vapors from the tank quickly fill the cabin.

Check for leaks prior to installation

How often to change

Signs of a clogged filter element

Corolla 120 station wagon

The need to change the fuel filter can be indicated by the operation of the car. Some of its features may indicate problems in the fuel pump. And so that each time you do not have to disassemble the fuel pump to check its serviceability, you need to pay attention to such violations in operation:

  • it is difficult or impossible to start an unheated engine;
  • at idle, the power unit is unstable;
  • the car twitches while driving, slows down on its own;
  • there is a feeling of "triple";
  • deterioration of the dynamic properties of the vehicle.
