The process of changing the oil in the KIA Soul 1.6 engine
For the KIA Soul 1.6 automatic procedure - engine oil change, you will need:
- new oil and oil filter;
- clean rags;
- container for 5 liters;
- keys to remove protection.
When all the necessary tools are at hand, you can get to work.
Step-by-step instruction:
- Warm up the engine for 4-5 minutes. This will make it easier to drain the old grease.
- Place the car on a jack or overpass.
- Unscrew the crankcase protection with the key.
- Unscrew the oil filler neck from above and remove the dipstick.
- Loosen drain plug.
- Substitute the prepared container.
- Drain the mining until drops begin to slowly drain.
- For better operation of the power mechanism, the engine is cleaned.
- Tighten the pre-drain plug and pour the flushing mixture through the neck.
- Start the engine and run the mixture without removing the old filter for 5 minutes.
- Stop the engine and check the filter after draining the waste.
- Remove the old filter and clean the landing site with a cloth.
- Immerse the new element in the lubricating fluid and lubricate the rubber sealing ring.
- Fill with new synthetic oil.
- Top up to the max level on the dipstick.
- Warm up the lubricant.
- After the first start of the engine, check the level and pressure of the lubricant. Add fluid if necessary.
Upon completion of filling in new lubricant, it is required to start the engine and let it idle for 10 minutes so that the liquid spreads evenly throughout the system.
Features of changing oil in a diesel and gasoline engine
Changing the oil in a Kia Soul gasoline engine is carried out according to the instructions described above. The differences are in the amount of lubricant poured in, as well as the following details:
- some models have crankcase protection;
- the protective shield, depending on the model, may contain 4-8 mounting bolts;
- when changing the filter, it is recommended to lubricate it or, in some cases, fill the filtration core with oil so that it is better distributed in the unit;
- for automatic transmissions with gasoline engines, 6.6-6.8 liters of lubricant will be needed.
An oil change in a Kia Soul with a diesel engine is distinguished by the following nuances:
- diesel is equipped with only manual transmission;
- the required volume of new lubricant is 5.3 l;
- in order to freely get close to the filter, it is necessary to unscrew the plastic casing of the motor;
- the viscosity of the motor fluid may be 15W-40.

Hi all! Now it's time to change the oil in the engine of my Kia Soul 1.6 gasoline. It would seem that such a simple procedure as changing the engine oil does not require special skills, but it is important to take into account some of the nuances so as not to harm the motor and shorten its service life.
For replacement, it is necessary to place the car above the inspection hole or raise it on a lift so that it is convenient to work under the engine compartment.
Preparatory work before changing engine oil in the engine
Here I think you guessed that you need to purchase fresh engine oil according to the manufacturer's specification. In my case, I will fill in 5w-20 oil, because. it is considered the main one for year-round use in the motor. You will also need an oil filter, which is also selected individually according to the engine model. It is also recommended to purchase a drain plug o-ring, which requires replacement with each unscrewing. Such a ring is inexpensive and is not a reason for saving, because. serves not only to prevent leakage of engine oil, but also protects the threads of the drain hole from damage with increased tightening torque when using an old sealing ring.

The oil I chose was Mannol 5W-20. Perhaps this is not the best solution, but I chose this option, because. it had an interesting price and I do not plan to ride it for too long, but I will replace it in about 7-7.5 thousand km. run. At the same time, I will check how this oil behaves in the 1.6 G4FC / G4FG Hyundai-Kia engine.

For reference! I do not use and do not recommend using any flushes during oil changes, because. I consider them to be exceptional cases. Such an extreme case can be - a violation of the oil change interval, i.e. significant overmileage and, as a result, the presence of obvious deposits and soot, or the use of low-quality (read - fake) oil with the same symptoms. If such moments did not occur with the motor, then flushing is not worth it, because. its residues in the engine will adversely affect the properties of fresh oil.

It is best to start the oil change process on a warm engine, when the oil is hot and thin. This will allow it to drain more easily and allow a larger volume to be replaced. It is better not to replace on a cold engine, because. Depending on the type of oil and the ambient temperature, the oil may be too viscous and may not drain well even from the sump, which will prevent the maximum volume from being replaced.
It should be understood that some part of the oil still remains inside, so the manufacturer often indicates not only the full, but also the volume to be replaced. In my case, the manufacturer indicated a total volume of 3.7 liters, a replacement one - 3.3 liters. At the same time, in a garage, I could not drain more than 3 liters. The service charged for all 3.7 liters at not the lowest cost per liter. Another reason to make a replacement yourself if possible.
And so, let's get started.
Step 1. Putting the car on a viewing hole and removing the engine protection
We turn off the engine, unscrew the filler cap on the engine. This will allow the oil to drain faster and more into the crankcase (sump). We proceed to remove the engine protection, if one has been installed. This procedure could be performed at the same time as the engine was warming up, if it had not been warmed up beforehand.
The process of removing the engine protection may differ depending on the protection model, but in general, this requires unscrewing from 4 to 8 bolts and removing the bottom shield.
If the protection has not been removed for a long time, then the bolts can get out tightly. If necessary, they can be treated with special tools for cleaning and easier unscrewing (such as “Liquid Key”, WD-40, etc.). I didn’t need this, because. at the last installation, the bolts were obviously lubricated with graphite grease. This protected the threads inside the joint from corrosion and made it easier to unscrew even after a long interval (the previous removal for an oil change was over a year ago).
Step 2. Drain the old oil and unscrew the oil filter
After removing the engine protection, we proceed to unscrew the drain plug. Do not forget to prepare a container in advance where you will drain the old oil. It is best to have a low bowl with a capacity of a couple of liters more than the drained volume. I will drain into a 4-liter pan.
It is necessary to drain the oil for at least 15 minutes, and preferably 30 minutes, so that as much old oil as possible is glassed. We also turn out the filter. Most likely, this must be done using a special device like this.
We unscrew it carefully and do not forget to substitute the bowl, because. oil can also be coming out from under the filter.
First, we turn the filter with a puller, then we screw it by hand.
Step 3 Installing a New Oil Filter and Filling with Fresh Engine Oil
Then we proceed to install a new filter. First, wipe the area on the engine with a clean rag. It is recommended to pour fresh oil inside the new filter. In my case, you can pour almost a complete filter. This will speed up the process of distributing oil through the system at the first start after replacement.
The sealing ring of the filter is also better to lubricate with oil. This will ensure a tighter fit of the sealing gum to the engine platform. We twist the drain hole by installing a new sealing ring on the plug. Next, you can proceed to pouring fresh oil into the engine.
Fill the engine with about 2/3 of the oil, but not less than the minimum mark on the dipstick. Now you can start the engine, let it idle for a while and make sure that the oil does not leak. If everything is fine, then the engine can be turned off and the protection installed in place.
While the protection was being installed, the oil should have already drained into the crankcase and now it is necessary to check its level. Top up if necessary. Don't add too much!!! Overfilling can lead to a violation of the circulation of oil in the engine !!! It is better to pour a little above the minimum line, and top up to the maximum after the machine has settled on a flat surface for at least a few hours.
