They are located under the generator. Then you can move the generator in the opposite direction from the block. In the desired position, the bolt securing the generator to the adjusting bar is tightened. Do not over tighten the belt. This increases the load on the pump and generator bearings. Next, you should re-check the belt tension. If it is normal, then all the above nuts are tightened. Adjustment of the motor generator belt UZAM-331, 3317 is normal.

The alternator belt on “classic” cars, such as the VAZ 2106, runs for quite a long time and you can drive more than 80,000 km without replacement, which was verified by personal experience. But at a certain time it will still have to be changed, since the material from which it is made is far from eternal and cracks and wears out over time. It is not necessary to unscrew it to the end, it is enough to make a couple of turns of the nut to loosen the tension. Next, you need to crawl under the car and loosen the fastening nut from the bottom, you can first spray it with penetrating grease:

After the bottom mount is loosened, you can proceed to further steps. Now we take the upper nut of the generator with our hand and try to move it to the right side, thereby weakening the tension to a minimum.

We make sure that the belt is loose enough and remove it from the pulley of the pump (water pump) VAZ 2106:

Now it can be easily removed from the remaining pulleys and after that you can immediately install a new one in reverse order.

How to tighten or loosen the alternator belt on a VAZ 2106

The tension is pretty easy. It is necessary to perform some of the steps that were described above, namely: loosen the upper and lower nuts securing the generator. Then we make the adjustment: either tighten or loosen the belt. Again, this is all done with the top tensioner plate. If you need to tighten it more, then you need to move the generator itself to the left, and if you loosen it, then, respectively, to the right.

After completing this procedure, we tighten both nuts to the required torque and check how correctly everything was done. We start the engine and turn on all electrical appliances:

If, when powerful consumers of electricity are turned on, the belt starts to whistle, then this indicates that it is necessary to tighten it a little more. If, on the contrary, the rumble of the generator bearing is heard, then most likely the belt is too tight and needs to be loosened.
