Tool:

  • ratchet
  • head for 10, 19, 27
  • square wrench for drain plug (4-sided 8)
  • funnel with long spout
  • container for draining old oil

The total volume of oil in the AL4 box on the 308 is 7 liters.

Despite the manufacturer's beliefs, it is recommended to change the oil in the AL4 box in the Peugeot 308 every 30-40 thousand km. run.

The procedure for changing the oil in an automatic transmission is not complicated; it is advisable to have a lift or a pit for this.

Step-by-step guide to changing the oil in an automatic transmission Peugeot 308

Note! Before draining the liquid from the box, the machine must be warmed up (at least 60 ° C), this is necessary to remove the impurities suspended in it. The oil does not drain completely, since all the oil cannot flow out of the torque converter.

  1. We drive the car into a pit or a lift (the oil in the automatic transmission is changed to hot).
  2. We remove the plastic bumper protection and engine crankcase protection.
  3. We are looking for a drain plug on a square box. We begin to unscrew the cork, after placing the prepared container under it. Drain the liquid.
  4. When the oil stops dripping, it is necessary to unscrew the internal plug - thereby we will drain the rest of the oil. Approximately 3 liters should drain.

  5. We wrap all the plugs.
  6. Open the hood and remove the air duct.

  7. Disconnect the positive terminal from the battery. We set aside the fuse box, which is located on the battery cover. Then remove the battery cover, in order to remove it you need to pull it up towards you.

  8. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  9. Using a 10 head, unscrew the battery and remove it.
  10. Access to the plug can be blocked by a ground wire, so you may have to remove the battery pad. After that, the wire can be moved to the side.

    To remove the battery pad, you will additionally need to unscrew the bolt under the fender liner.

  11. Access to the cork is open, now you can unscrew it with the help of a square.
  12. We pour oil.

    In the box, the total volume of oil is 7 liters. It is possible to drain only 3 liters. To replace the maximum oil in the box, 9 liters are needed (this is 3 replacement cycles). This is an expensive procedure that makes no sense. Masters recommend changing the oil at 3 liters every 30 thousand km. run.

    We unscrew the first part of the plug (in diagram No. 1) and wait until the oil starts to flow in drops, not a stream. We wrap the cork back and turn off the car.

  13. It is advisable to reset the oil aging counter. This is done using a dealer scanner (it is necessary to reset according to the recommendations in the manual).

Entry of a large amount of oil into the engine combustion chambers due to wear or damage to valve stem seals, valve stems, valve guides, piston rings, pistons and cylinders Inspection after engine disassembly Repair the engine

In 80%, the toxicity of exhaust gases is affected by several main factors: 1. Fuel (first and main factor) 2. Engine condition (wear, amount of pollution) 3. Engine oil (type, quality, cleanliness) 4. Air filter condition (resistance) .

1. Fuel. Before going for a technical inspection, a few days before, you should fill in only high-quality gasoline with a high octane number. This approach will dramatically reduce the content of toxins in the exhaust gases.

2. Engine condition. This is the most common factor that leads to a change in the composition of the exhaust. It is recommended to clean the fuel system twice a year and remember to change the fuel filter periodically. The condition of the spark plugs greatly affects toxicity, it is recommended to replace them before maintenance.

3. Engine oil. Oddly enough, the quality of engine oil also changes the composition of exhaust gases. Synthetic motor oil leads to a decrease in toxicity, and mineral to an increase. Therefore, before undergoing maintenance, it is recommended to replace the old engine oil with fresh one, it is necessary to use only high-quality oil purchased from official representatives.

4. Condition of the air filter. Everyone knows that the resistance of the air filter (pollution) causes a decrease in power, to excessive discharge in the intake manifold and an increase in toxicity. Before passing MOT, it should also be replaced with a new one!

The main reasons for the formation of toxic substances in internal combustion engines are the imperfection of the processes of preparing the combustible mixture before it is fed into the cylinders and in the cylinders, which leads to incomplete combustion of the fuel in the engine, as well as fuel contamination with various impurities and additives.
In the ideal case, the complete combustion of hydrocarbon fuel in the engine should result in the formation of carbon dioxide and water vapor, which are not toxic substances.
But it is practically impossible to obtain an ideal fuel combustion process in various engine operating modes or to have ideally clean fuel in real practice of car operation. Therefore, unpleasant emissions into the atmosphere always accompany the operation of an internal combustion engine.
The amount of toxic substances in the exhaust gases of diesel engines and engines with spark ignition, due to the different nature of the processes of mixture formation and fuel combustion, has significant differences. The exhaust gases of diesel engines contain large amounts of soot and nitrogen oxides, and engines with spark ignition - carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. Therefore, the means of combating toxicity in these types of engines are different.

Reducing the toxicity of exhaust gases of cars is carried out in various ways by improving the design and working process of engines, equipping cars with systems for capturing and neutralizing harmful emissions, as well as improving the environmental properties of gasoline used.

Other causes of engine toxicity

Losses during fuel combustion (losses from the entry of unburned fuel into the exhaust system);
losses due to a rich air-fuel mixture;
losses as a result of oxidation and combustion of fuel in the compression phase (due to the presence of an injection advance angle or an ignition advance angle);
losses in the combustion chamber due to the gap between the pistons and the walls of the cylinder block;
friction losses of piston rings on the cylinder block;
losses due to inertial forces arising in the internal combustion engine (as a result of the "relocation" of pistons and other elements of the internal combustion engine);
friction losses due to asymmetric reactions of the connecting rods;
losses due to asymmetric combustion;
losses as a result of collision of pairs of articulated parts of the KShM and CPG;
losses on the operation of units installed on the internal combustion engine.

Do not uselessly turn the engine with a starter for a long time;
do not start the engine by towing. You should use the method of "lighting" from another car;
it is forbidden to check the operation of the cylinders by disconnecting the spark plugs.
in case of interruptions in the operation of the ignition system, do not allow the engine to operate at a high crankshaft speed until the malfunction is eliminated;
Do not fill engine oil above the maximum level. Excess oil entering the catalytic converter can damage the coating or completely destroy it.

Hi all! This is the first article related to the maintenance of a Peugeot car. And today we will talk about oil change in automatic transmission Peugeot 308.

Firstly, I would like to say that the manufacturer does not recommend changing the oil in the box, arguing that it is supposedly designed for the entire service life. This is everyone's business, but it's better not to wait for the box to fail and change the oil. Change the oil in automatic transmission Peugeot 308 I recommend after 30-40 thousand kilometers. Secondly, it is best to apply a partial replacement. All work can be done by hand. But provided that there is a hole in the garage. Well, or there is an opportunity to work on a flyover.

Why do you need to change the oil in an automatic transmission Peugeot 308?

The fact is that the oil in automatic transmissions is intended not only for lubrication, but also for transmitting torque from the engine to the wheels. Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is subject to aging no less than the oil in the internal combustion engine. Over time, ATP loses its properties and is not able to protect the automatic transmission from wear. In addition, metal chips and other dirt appear in the liquid. Such a liquid increases the wear of automatic transmission parts, which after a while will lead to its failure. And for the owner, this will turn out to be, at best, an expensive repair, and at worst, a complete replacement of the box. That is why it is clear at once that Peugeot 308 automatic transmission oil change need to! And there is no eternal automatic transmission fluid. All this is nothing more than a marketing gimmick.

What is required for an independent oil change in an automatic transmission Peugeot 308?

To do the job we need:

10" square.
- 8" hex.
- Oil in automatic transmission. For a partial replacement, 3-4 liters is enough. The best option would be oil. This oil is sold in almost all stores in convenient 1L packaging.

Set of tools.
- Funnel. If you do not feel sorry for the money, then buy ready-made. If the budget is limited, then you can make the desired funnel yourself from a simple plastic bottle and a thin hose.
- A container for collecting waste oil. A good option would be a 4L plastic canister. For convenience, we put the canister on its side and cut out a rectangular hole to get something resembling a bath. After that, it is convenient to pour the waste into a bottle, and the canister is easy to dispose of.
- Napkins or just a clean rag.
- Gloves.

Stages of work

Oil change in automatic transmission Peugeot 308 consists of several stages - preparatory, draining off, filling in new oil. All these steps are very simple, but despite this, we will analyze everything in detail so that you do not have any unnecessary questions. So let's go.

We drive the car into a pit (overpass). We warm up the engine to operating temperature. It is advisable to start the engine, wait until the fan turns on once or twice, turn off the engine and get to work. This is required so that the oil in the automatic transmission warms up to the desired temperature and becomes more liquid and drains faster.

When the engine is warm, we climb under the car and remove the engine protection to provide access to the automatic transmission.

In a pre-prepared container, we drain the mining from the box. This is done in the following way. We unscrew the drain plug with a tetrahedron and wait until part of the oil drains. A small amount of liquid should drain. Please note that this is not the entire volume. Now we take a suitable hexagon and turn off the plastic overflow plug. About 2.5-3 liters of ATF will merge. In total, the volume of drained oil should be 3 liters with a little. There is still about 4 liters of liquid left in the box. This volume cannot be drained, since the oil is in the torque converter. But we don't need it. After all, we perform a partial oil change in the Peugeot 308 automatic transmission. Therefore, the drained volume will be enough for us for the first change. Thus, we will update about half of all fluid in the automatic transmission.

When the oil has stopped flowing, we wrap both plugs in place and get out from under the car.

The next stage of work will be done under the hood. Open the hood and make room. We need to dismantle the air filter housing and battery. This is required to get to the fill plug. In some cases, it may be necessary to dismantle the battery pad, as well as the negative wire, which is attached to the automatic transmission housing.

Finding a fill hole. It is closed with a fill plug. We unscrew the filler plug and insert a funnel into the hole.

We measure the volume of the drained oil and fill in the automatic transmission exactly the same amount. When the oil is filled, we wrap the filler plug in place. A copper washer is used as a gasket on the cork. It is also recommended to change it after each oil change in the Peugeot 308 automatic transmission.

Install the battery and air filter housing.

Now you need to start the engine again. We warm up the engine to operating temperature. When the temperature has risen above 60C, we move the automatic transmission lever to all positions with a short delay of 2-3 seconds. Then we do not turn off the engine and again climb under the car.

An external plug is used to control and set the oil level. We unscrew the plug with a square and drain the excess oil. When the oil is drained, we wrap the cork in place. Please note that the vehicle must be level when checking the oil level. Now the engine can be turned off.

Remove oil spills. To do this, use a napkin or rag. And install the engine protection in place. That's all. Oil change in automatic transmission Peugeot 308 this is over. Agree that there was nothing complicated in this procedure?

The next such replacement is best done after about 30 thousand kilometers.

To ensure the long and service life of any car, including the Peugeot 308, it is important to take care of proper and timely maintenance. One of the most important stages is the oil change in the Peugeot 308 automatic transmission. These cars are equipped with an AL-4 transmission, which can quickly fail without timely maintenance. In today's article, we will tell you how to change the lubricant in the gearbox.

Oil change interval in AL-4

The automaker recommends changing the oil in the Peugeot 308 automatic transmission every 100 thousand kilometers, but you can do this more often. In the conditions of domestic roads, which force the gearbox to be operated quite harshly, it is better to change the oil every 60 thousand kilometers. You can replace the fluid completely or partially. If you change the lubricant more often than after 50 thousand kilometers, you can perform a partial change every other time.

The choice of oil for replacement in automatic transmission Peugeot 308

For automatic transmissions AL-4, ATF transmission fluids are used, which solve several main tasks:

  • synthetic;
  • semi-synthetic;
  • mineral.

Among themselves, they differ in additives and chemical composition, which affect certain characteristics:

  • maximum working temperature;
  • foaming;
  • resistance to oxidation;
  • lubrication quality;
  • aggressive effect on rubber elements;
  • the ability to hold wear particles in suspension.

We recommend filling in synthetic gear oil that meets certain markings. You can choose between the following oils:

  • Mobil ATF LT 71141
  • Esso ATF LT 71141
  • Total LT 141173

Tools for the job

To change the oil in a Peugeot 308 automatic transmission, you will need a lift, a flyover or an ordinary pit, and you will also need a set of tools and spare parts, as well as the oil itself:

  • a funnel with a spout is longer;
  • keys;
  • new consumables;
  • a container into which you will merge the old grease;
  • rags;
  • new oil (7 liters for a complete change and 3-4 for a partial one).

Stages of work

To completely change the oil in the Peugeot 308 automatic transmission, it is better to contact the workshop, and you can do a partial replacement yourself. You can do this according to our instructions.

Preparation for oil change in automatic transmission Peugeot 308

Drain the used oil from the box

  1. Unscrew the drain plug so that the oil begins to drain.
  2. Unscrew the inner plug and drain the residue.
  3. When tightening the drain plugs, replace the gaskets. It is necessary to twist without much effort so as not to pinch the gasket. If you use torque wrenches, apply a force of 2.2-2.5 N / m.
  4. After tightening the drain plugs, raise the hood to continue the replacement procedure.

We remove the battery

It is necessary to remove the battery in order to gain access to the filler hole:

  1. First remove the air filter.
  2. We disconnect the positive terminal from the battery and take the fuse block to the side (it is located on the battery casing). Pull towards you to remove the battery cover.
  3. Disconnect the negative terminal.
  4. Using a 10 socket, unscrew the bolts and remove the battery.
  5. If the ground wire bothers you, remove the battery pad. To remove the platform, you must additionally unscrew the bolt under the fender liner.

Peugeot 308 automatic transmission repair is one of the most requested procedures in service centers.
First, let's say a few words about the "box" itself. The 308th model is equipped with an adaptive "automatic" with the AL-4 index. This rather old automatic transmission, produced by the French automaker together with Siemens and PSA, is installed on most Peugeot and Citroen cars. Before they began to put it on the Peugeot 308, she managed to visit the Peugeot 206, 307, as well as the 406th and 407th models. If we talk about Citroen, then AL-4 is installed on C4, C5, Xara and Xantia cars.
In 2004, it was modernized, many "sores" were removed. Therefore, owners of cars of subsequent years are much less likely to go to service stations with this problem than owners of earlier "earlier" cars. However, even in a modernized form, the AL-4 is a rather capricious unit that requires careful handling and frequent oil changes.

In order to visit car services “for repair” of this automatic transmission as rarely as possible, you need to know a few rules for its operation and maintenance. First of all, the "automatic" AL-4, like the engine, needs to be warmed up in winter. To do this, move the gear lever to "Drive" (without removing the car from the "handbrake", of course). When operating in winter, also try to avoid wheel spin on slippery road sections. Unnecessarily, do not switch the gearshift lever (this item is for those drivers who like to switch the selector from the “drive” to “neutral” position at every traffic light).

Change the oil approximately every 30,000 km. This is perhaps the most important point, since many failures of the AL-4 are due to improper maintenance. Many car owners are not even aware of this need, since the Peugeot manufacturer does not recommend changing the oil in an automatic transmission ... never at all. More precisely, no, official dealers have such a procedure, but only "at the request of the client." Not bad, right? If the owner of a car with an automatic transmission does not know about the need to change the oil, then when will he “ask” for it? That's right, when something breaks in it. Well, as you wanted - the automatic transmission must be sold to the manufacturer. So it turns out that after 60 thousand, the AL-4 fails, and if the owner had changed the oil at least once a year, it would have lasted much longer.
A factor that significantly reduces the risk of breakdowns is the timely maintenance of automatic transmissions, as well as regular diagnostics for prevention.

What symptoms indicate problems with the "machine"? The very first signal that it's time to go to the service is usually jolts (or even bumps) when switching the selector. If the owner of the car reacted to these warning signs quickly enough, a simple replacement of the hydraulic valves may well solve the problem. If this did not help, or the owner does not attach importance to the inadequate operation of the "machine", the "disease" begins to progress. This can lead to spontaneous mode switching. So, for example, an automatic transmission can start to “jump” between winter and sports special modes, or it can even “get stuck” in an emergency position and accelerate the car only to 3rd gear. Here, only a major overhaul will help.

The cost of repairs is relatively low. If you only need to replace the hydraulic valves, then it will cost about 15 thousand rubles. The price of a major restoration of AL-4 starts from 30 thousand rubles. The final cost is determined after its disassembly and determination of the cause of the breakdown. While - pay attention - an oil change costs only 2,400 rubles. I think everyone noticed the difference in the size of the numbers.

Repair and oil change in the box automatic Peugeot 308 - related procedures. In order not to apply for the first, you need to produce the second more often. By the way, the procedure for changing the oil in the "machine" Peugeot 308 is quite simple, so you can do it yourself. The only thing you need is a lift. It will be hard without him. You will also need a funnel with a thin spout and automatic transmission oil.

The step-by-step instructions for this process look like this:

1. We warm up the car (this is a must!) And drive it onto the lift.
2. Remove the bumper protection, and then the crankcase.
3. The external plug (under the square) of the automatic transmission became visible. We substitute under it some not particularly necessary container. Unscrew the plug.
4. After the oil has flowed out, unscrew one more - internal - plug. In total, about 3 liters of oil will pour out.
5. We twist both plugs.
6. Now you need to remove the air filter, so we raise the hood.
7. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, and then unscrew the battery itself with a 10 key. We take it off.
8. If the ground wire blocks access to the automatic transmission plug, you will also have to remove the battery pad to move it away. To remove the platform, you need - among other things - to unscrew another tricky bolt, which is located under the fender liner.
9. Now the plug can be unscrewed without problems. Unscrew. We begin to fill in the "fresh" oil. Here you need to clarify: in AL-4, the total volume of oil is 7 liters. Of these, only 3 can be drained. Accordingly, in order to completely change the oil, 3 filling / draining cycles must be carried out. And this is 9 liters of new oil - a little expensive, and there is no special use. Experts recommend replacing it by 3 liters, but every 30 thousand kilometers.
10. Filled with oil, screwed the cap. Put the platform and the battery in place.
11. We start the engine and let it warm up - until the fan turns on. Now we need to act quickly. After the fan has turned on for the first time, we “click” all the gears on the automatic transmission and return it to its original position “P”.
12. Now you need to unscrew the external plug again (see paragraph 3) and wait until the oil stops flowing out. After that, we twist the plug into place and turn off the engine. Everything, work is finished.
