Currently, LADA Kalina Cross is at the peak of its popularity, and the price of a car in early 2017 starts from 524 thousand rubles for the “norm” package. Design and construction
Kalina Cross is a cross-country vehicle with front-wheel drive and improved suspension parameters. In terms of cross-country ability, it is not inferior to SUVs. The crossover is made on the basis of the body of the first generation Lada Kalina, but with various improvements. On difficult sections of the road, the car behaves steadily as a result of an increase in the profile of the tires (R15 185/55) and new valve shock absorbers with modified spring mounts. The steering system has been changed and the turning radius has been increased. Beautiful fairings, new bumpers, changed wheel arches, added black moldings on the doors, door sills. The suspension has been increased by 23 mm, its design is now more rigid (compression buffer at the rear of the suspension is 70 mm), which allows the driver to overcome the most difficult sections of the road.
The salon has also undergone significant technical changes and has an original design. Qualitatively improved sound insulation, all technological holes were additionally sealed. A new steering wheel and an airbag of a modern modification have been installed. Air conditioning and seat heating add to the comfort of the car. The body itself has become more solid, the number of docking of its parts has decreased, which eliminated squeaks and rattles inside the cabin. The car uses many different electronics that improve its handling and make it more competitive.
Technical changes also affected the engine of the new Kalina. Economical 1.6-liter engine with 16 valves and 106 horsepower. Gasoline consumption has been significantly reduced, with a combined driving cycle it is 7 liters per 100 kilometers. The maximum speed at engine speeds of 5100 per second reaches 175 km / h. All this, together with a 5-speed manual transmission with electronic fuel injection, makes driving the car the most comfortable. The gear ratio of the main gear has been changed - it is now 3.9. But there is also a drawback - there is no all-wheel drive, which always characterizes any SUV. But still, Kalina Cross turned out to be a very bright and attractive model in terms of price and technical characteristics.

There are only two complete sets of the Lada Kalina Cross car - standard and luxury, which, in turn, are also subdivided depending on the installed engine and gearbox, resulting in as many as 14 complete sets, the cheapest ones are equipped with an 8-valve engine with a capacity of 87 horsepower, which works exclusively with manual transmission. Having declassified the main part of the information about their new product - Lada Kalina Cross in June 2014, the authors of the model officially presented the car at the international auto forum, which ended in early September 2014 in Moscow. Almost immediately after that, Kalina Cross began to arrive in the showrooms of official dealers. It is noteworthy that the company of the new model of the Lada brand was a modification of another station wagon from Togliatti - as well as the classic Niva, which survived another modernization, and received a solid name.
Manufacturers of Lada Kalina Cross classify their new product as a crossover. However, even calling a car a pseudo-crossover can be a stretch. In fact, Kalina Cross is a standard Lada Kalina station wagon with increased ground clearance and some attributes of off-road automotive design.
As already noted, the main distinguishing feature of Kalina with the prefix "Cross" was the increased ground clearance. The distance from the bottom point of the Kalina Cross body to the road surface is an impressive 208 mm for an empty car with a driver behind the wheel. The clearance of a fully loaded machine is 188 mm. According to this indicator, the pseudo-crossover is 23 mm higher than the standard station wagon. Such a serious difference was achieved thanks to the use of special gas-filled shock absorbers, a changed location of the spring supports, as well as some reconfiguration of the main suspension elements. The updated chassis made it possible to obtain an increase in height of 16 mm, another 7 mm of additional distance from the ground to the bottom of the car was obtained by installing 15 diameter light alloy wheels, “shod” in 195/55 R15 rubber. Wider and larger tires increased the track of both pairs of wheels by almost 5 mm, forcing the designers to reduce the steering rack travel by 3.6 mm. In connection with this technical solution, the turning radius of the car increased to 5.5 meters against 5.2 meters for the standard Kalina station wagon.
Among other off-road differences of the car, one can note the presence of a steel sheet that reliably protects the engine crankcase, and in general, the bottom of the car has practically no protruding elements. The sides of the body are decorated with wide moldings with the inscription "Cross", the radii of the wheel arches are trimmed with impressive black plastic lining. Plastic elements also protect the door sills of the car. The front and rear bumpers received metallized inserts. The practicality of the car is added by full-size roof rails.
Speaking about the dimensions of the Kalina Cross station wagon, it should be noted that the length of the car was 4104 mm, its width is 1700 mm, the height of the car, taking into account the roof rails, was 1560 mm. The wheelbase is 2476 mm.
If the appearance of the “off-road” version of the station wagon still somehow differs from the exterior of a conventional car, then these cars are completely identical to each other in terms of interior design. The instrument panel, steering wheel, controls, as well as the configuration of the seats completely repeat the same elements of the standard station wagon. To give the interior of the budget Russian pseudo-crossover some originality and refresh the interior of the car, its creators decided to go the least expensive way by adding bright colors to the interior design. Orange inserts appeared around the ventilation system vents along the edges of the front panel, on the steering wheel, seats and door trim. The car accelerates to 165 km / h and picks up speed of 100 km / h in 12.2 seconds, unthinkable for such an internal combustion engine. The automaker claims that fuel consumption when driving in a combined cycle does not exceed 7.2 liters per 100 kilometers.
The more "fancy" equipment of Kalina Cross has been slightly redesigned into an economy version, consumption in which is only 7 liters in a similar driving mode. However, for such a feature, you have to pay with acceleration to “hundreds”, which is almost 13.1 seconds. The dimensions of Kalina Cross are increased compared to the Universal and are:
