Last year, our editorial office was on a long test Fiat Ducato. Almost all editors liked it. We had at our disposal a very roomy universal car, suitable both for a trip by a large company and for the spring evacuation of all belongings in one trip at the opening of the summer season. There is, perhaps, one drawback, and then, rather, a psychological one - a very bulky body.

And when the opportunity arose this year to take the Scudo for a long test, we immediately took advantage of it. Involuntarily, parallels with Ducato climbed into my head. The models have one platform, its main advantage is in the layout. The powertrain and drive wheels are at the front, and behind them is a flat floor and a very compact leaf-sprung rear suspension. This results in a very low loading height. Scudo is noticeably lower at the "withers" and with a more pronounced hood. The driving position is closer to that of a passenger car. But it is not known what is worse: either to climb into a high Ducato chair and see far away, or to sit down like in a passenger car, but at the same time have thick inclined racks in the field of lateral vision.

But with the quality of materials, and with the interior design in Scudo is noticeably better. The plastic is also hard, but more textured, there are also a lot of small glove compartments, but the general appearance of the dashboard is not so utilitarian. Velor seat upholstery contributes to the creation of comfort in the cabin. The front passenger seat, like in the Ducato, is double, without adjustments, but the second and third rows of the Scudo are an order of magnitude more functional. Both rows of seats consist of a double left (along the way) part and a single right. They can be easily dismantled. All three backrests in each row have individual tilt adjustment.

The Ducato and Scudo have the same powertrains: a 120-horsepower turbodiesel and a 6-speed "mechanics". The response of the motor to the gas pedal is quite adequate in both cases, but the Scudo has worse gear shifting clarity. But the clutch pedal is more convenient. It is lighter and more informative. And I was also surprised by the maneuverability: the Ducato has it simply amazing due to the fact that the front wheels turn almost 45 degrees. The Scudo cannot boast of this, but its ride is easy. No wonder: the Scudo is primarily a passenger car, and then a utility vehicle, while the Ducato is vice versa.

    What well

Ride, Fuel Efficiency, Transformability, Reclining Passenger Seats, Visibility

    What is wrong

Insufficient clarity of gear shifting, large turning radius, low ground clearance under the protection of the crankcase

Fiat Scudo has been traveling around Europe since its birth and has its blood twins in France - Citroen Jumpy and Peugeot Expert. All this "fraternity" has a common residence - the Sevel Nord plant in France, which was built in the mid-1990s by the PSA Peugeot Citroen alliance together with Fiat. The site is related to such popular single-platform family minivans in Europe as Peugeot 806, Citroen Evasion, Fiat Ullyse, Lancia Zeta. Passenger and cargo versions of the Scudo are available in Russia with a long and short base. Passenger cars are only offered with a regular roof in 5-seater, 6-seater, 8-seater and 9-seater versions. Cargo vans can be selected with both regular and high roof. The wheelbase of the long-wheelbase passenger Scudo is 3122 mm, while the overall length is 5135 mm. It looks impressive, and already in appearance it seems that the Italian is quite roomy. Family traits and some resemblance to Ducato are easily recognized. The design of the Scudo hasn't changed much since 2007, but the chisel-like body shape looks in the spirit of the times. The embossed window sill line, falling to the headlights, gives the car dynamics and expression. In the exterior, hypertrophied details are striking: a massive front bumper, swollen headlights, a voluminous radiator grille in a chrome trim, a heavy angular feed with narrow vertical rectangles of the rear optics - everything is in its place and looks good. For the test, we got a long-wheelbase version in the Panorama configuration. Access to the passenger compartment is through a side sliding door, the second such door as an option will cost 18,000 rubles. The doorway here is medium in size, but it is quite enough for a comfortable passage to the 2nd and 3rd rows. To go back, you first need to fold the back of the outer seat of the middle row, and then fold the entire seat. You don't have to be abnormally tall and well-fed to find the not too wide ranges of steering and seat adjustment, but it doesn't hurt to get comfortable in the large driver's seat. The landing is high, visibility to the front and sides is excellent, there is plenty of space for the driver and front passengers. But in order to handle pedals that are close to each other, it will most likely require some skill, since the pedal assembly is narrow here. Since the Scudo is equipped with only "mechanics", in any case there will be 3 pedals. The interior is utilitarian and no frills - the center console contains a miniature monochrome screen, 2 large rectangular air vents, a media system unit, a climate control panel, and at the very bottom there is a manual transmission handle with an ashtray. Everything looks simple, and therefore it is impossible to get lost. Pleasantly surprised by the large number of compartments for small items, retractable cup holders in the side parts of the dashboard, large pockets on the interior door panels. In the long-wheelbase version of the minibus, passengers are unlikely to have complaints about the lack of space. This also applies to the double front passenger seat, as well as 2 and 3 rows, which include 3 full seats each. There is enough space for tall and dense people. All seats are comfortable and hospitable, the main thing is that inexpensive velor is strong and durable. Armchairs fold without much effort, on the 2 rear rows the back of the seat of the middle chair is transformed into a miniature table with cup holders - very convenient. The cabin has a lot of different shelves, pockets, caches and compartments. Particularly pleased with the functional shelf under the ceiling with 3 large niches. A large trunk speaks in favor of practicality. The Italian is adapted to Russian conditions, as evidenced by the retuned suspension, increased battery capacity, reinforced heat-resistant rubber seals. Scudo is equipped with the only French-made diesel engine with a volume of 2 liters, 120 horsepower and a single 6-speed "mechanics". This arsenal is enough for the car "for the eyes" to ensure adequate acceleration even when loaded. Of course, we are not talking about explosive dynamics, but there is enough traction to feel confident when overtaking on a straight line. The elastic engine, delivering 300 Nm at 2,000 rpm of torque, makes it easy to start off from 2nd gear, and pulls out from 10,000 rpm at a speed of 30 km/h to 3rd motor. The Fiat is easy to drive and extremely responsive. This also applies to a sensitive reaction to the gas pedal, and adequate steering response, and comfortable operation of the omnivorous suspension. The mechanical box in general works well, but still there is some understatement: at first there may be some difficulties in switching gears due to not quite intelligible fixation of gears. The rest of the Scudo is conducive to long-distance trips and long stay behind the wheel. The engine shows maximum activity mainly at low speeds, and the higher they are, the louder the engine song. As for efficiency, even if you do not trust the passport characteristics for fuel consumption, which fix 7.4 l / 100 km of track in the combined cycle, and just in case add another 1 liter to this data, the situation will not become critical. The initial equipment of a 9-seater passenger Scudo Comby SWB with a short base costs 1,348,000 rubles. This amount includes glazed hinged rear doors, electric and heated rear-view mirrors, electric front windows, ABS, central locking, a window in the sliding door, a driver's airbag, power accessories with an enlarged battery and a high-power generator, as well as a full-size "reserve" . A more complete version of the Scudo Panorama Executive LWB with a long base (the one that was on the test) will cost from 1,556,000 rubles, while the car will be 8-seater, without a rain and light sensor (7,800 rubles), “foglights” ( 8,400 rubles) and parking sensors (13,800 rubles). Among the first competitors of the Fiat Scudo are its relatives, who also have other engines and other transmissions available. The cost of options is not much different from the Italian. Peugeot only offers a long-wheelbase variant with a standard Expert Tepee roof, which starts at 1,429,000 rubles. for the option with a 90-horsepower 1.6-liter engine and a 5-speed "mechanics". The version with the same 2-liter engine as the Scudo is significantly more expensive for Peugeot - from 1,529,000 rubles. Citroen has a similar situation - only a long-wheelbase version with a standard roof is available in the same Jumpy Multispace configuration, costing from 1,409,000 rubles. for the version with a 1.6-liter engine and 5-speed "mechanics". A modification with the same 120-horsepower unit as the Fiat Scudo costs even more - 1,599,000 rubles. As you can see, moderate pricing is Fiat's main trump card, so our hero has something to object to his French classmates, not to mention such expensive "dinosaurs" in the class as VW Transporter and Mercedes-Benz Vito. As an inexpensive, reliable and comfortable family minibus, the Italian looks more than worthy. Why not an option, for example, for large families?

The Fiat Scudo is a mid-size minibus that was first introduced in 1995. It is larger than the Fiat Doblo and smaller than the Fiat Ducato. The standard passenger modification "Combinato" is very popular and widely used by taxi services. It accommodates up to seven people. The appearance of the car is similar to the Citroen Jumpy and Peugeot Expert.

The load capacity of the first generation Fiat Scudo was 900 kg, and the space inside the car was 4 m³ with a cabin length of 2,059 mm. The distance between the wheel arches was 1220 mm, which made it possible to load two euro pallets into the car.

For the first generation Fiat Scudo, initially three engine options were offered: a 1.9-liter diesel power unit with a capacity of 68 hp, a 2-liter diesel engine with 89 hp. and its turbocharged version, whose power was 99 hp.

In 2004, the list of engines offered was expanded. Buyers were offered four engine options: three diesel power units and one gasoline engine. A 2-liter gasoline engine developed a power equal to 134 hp. The list of diesel engines was: a 1.9-liter diesel power unit with a capacity of 68 hp. and two 2-liter JTD turbodiesels with 93 hp. and 108 hp.

In 2007, a new generation of Fiat Scudo minibus called Panorama was introduced. When developing the exterior design, the designers relied on the appearance of the Fiat Ducato. In general, the concept of the new Scudo is spaciousness, convenience and visual appeal. If we talk about spaciousness, then the total volume of the luggage compartment will be 770 liters. The capacity and carrying capacity of the car have been increased. The volume of the interior space of the car is from 5 to 7 m³, and the load capacity has increased to 1200 kg. The car now accommodates up to 9 passengers. Naturally, this space will increase significantly if the second and third row of seats are folded or dismantled. The second feature is convenience, it implies the comfort of the cabin, the ergonomics of the controls, and the ease of driving. And the last feature is the style, which is expressed in the fact that the new Fiat Scudo is distinguished by a dynamic appearance, in many ways reminiscent of the appearance of a sports wagon.

Scudo Panorama is available in two trim levels: Panorama Family - for couples with children and Panorama Executive - for use as a client car. The Executive is distinguished, among other things, by the possibility of separately setting the air conditioning for each row of seats.

For the new generation Fiat Scudo, three powertrain options are offered: one gasoline engine (2-liter engine with 138 hp) and two diesel engines (1.6 JTD with 89 hp and 2.0 Multijet, whose power is 118 hp .).

    FIAT Scudo I, 2000

The car was not purchased by chance, as the same was with his father. The FIAT Scudo of the 1st generation was bought with the expectation of transporting light but bulky cargo, and for long-distance trips around Ukraine for its trading needs, the car was deliberately taken in the passenger version, since the converted truck, unlike the original one, has a much stiffer suspension and the interior layout is made differently , this is especially noticeable to the front passenger. In general, I am very satisfied with the car, the choice was made in favor of the HDI engine and the obligatory presence of air conditioning and ABS, sound insulation was additionally made, since the factory corrosion resistance is at “5+” and there seems to be no sound insulation at all, because of this, on long trips you get tired of for extra noise. I really like the high landing, crazy high-torque engine, good acceleration dynamics and, at the same time, consumption in the combined cycle does not exceed 6.5 l / 100 km.

Of course, belts and all tensioners, filters, oils changed, but this is inevitable on any car. Also, for personal pleasure, good acoustics were installed, which lightened the wallet by 1500 USD, but this does not apply to shortcomings. Also, behind a rather modest appearance, there is one plus, the car can be safely turned inside, while not attracting too much attention from the outside, and this is true when living in the city and there is no normal parking nearby. Often you have to drive along the Kherson-Melitopol section, and so we played “distillation games” several times on it with both “Vito” and “Transporter”, and both of these cars were inferior to the modest FIAT Scudo I both in terms of acceleration dynamics and “maximum speed”, I I'm not saying that Vito is weaker, it just has a limiter. What I really don’t like is that it’s inconvenient to turn around in narrow streets, since the turning radius is almost 12 m, wide side pillars, sometimes a passenger car can hide behind them (but this is on almost all new cars) uncomfortable platform for the left foot, lack of an armrest, and with strong air conditioning oddly weak oven.

Advantages : Excellent HDi engine. Reliability. Unpretentiousness.

Flaws : turning radius. Wide A-pillars.

    FIAT Scudo I, 2002

FIAT Scudo I - reliable, with timely replacement of consumables does not create problems. Economical - 6 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km of the track! "Workhorse" - the body is large, we did not overload, the goods are light, but the weight per ton is not felt, and 1.5 tons is the norm according to the documents. Comfortable interior, the three of us are quite comfortable, even at long distances, high seating position, good visibility, large mirrors, due to the glass between the cab and the cargo compartment and the glass in the rear doors. Review back, as in a "passenger car". High ground clearance FIAT Scudo I - good cross. The engine is high-torque, but responsive, due to the turbine. Good guy!

Advantages : reliability, economy, comfort. Good for a truck. Patency, modern excellent "diesel".

Flaws : not very informative gearbox, you need to get used to it. I wish the optics were better.

    Roman, Moscow

    FIAT Scudo I, 2005

FIAT Scudo I is a great car. A large, comfortable lounge with modest dimensions, a little more than a Zhiguli. Excellent running, powerful. Designed for 1000 kg of cargo, but quite comfortable. In terms of handling, the FIAT Scudo I resembles the Mitsubishi Grandis. Economical, quiet, powerful diesel. Cruising speed - 120 km. 140 km/h - easy. The average consumption is 7 liters per 100 km. Good permeability. In the forest, in nature - no worse than a jeep. The city is respected, you sit high. You see far. This is my first Fiat, I really liked it. Before him, he traveled mainly on the "Japanese" and "Germans". The Japanese are good. The Germans are much worse. I wanted to take the "Transporter T4" but preferred the FIAT Scudo I.

Advantages : comfortable suspension, efficiency, large saloon. versatility, small size.

Flaws : oil is leaking, looked at 10 cars with a mileage of about 200 thousand km. Sluggish climate system.

    Sergey, Tula

    FIAT Scudo I, 1998

Pluses FIAT Scudo I: capacious. The cargo platform is 2 m long, a euro pallet becomes between the arches. In the passenger version up to 9 seats, in the cargo version 3. Comfortable. A very comfortable driving position, you don’t get tired at all, the suspension is quite soft, it doesn’t goat on potholes, it steers, slows down and behaves like a car. Galvanized body - no corrosion for 15 years. The engine is simple as a tractor, "aspirated", mechanical injection pump, no electronics, almost omnivorous and quite economical: 8-9 l / 100 km, while driving cheerfully and even recklessly. 5th chassis - you can drive it from 50, both to overtake and uphill. The resource tends to a million.

Cons: over time, the sliding side door sags. Ball bearings and silent blocks assembled with levers (but the levers are forged, strong), enough for 60 thousand. supports made of plastic). The front wheel bearings are short-lived, 10-60 thousand and not cheap (but the rear ones are eternal, they never changed for 400 thousand). Cruise speed is 100-110, max 130, but you can't drive it, the engine will die. The stove control unit is enough for a year. The handbrake cables are sagging. If water gets into the gearbox lever drive, change the drive in winter, 200 euros. Most breakdowns of FIAT Scudo I are scheduled, according to the mileage and road conditions. With a run of about 60,000 a year, once a year in the spring, change the PP levers, shock absorbers, front hub bearings, and pads, belts, etc. On a circle 500-700 dollars.

    Advantages : in a review.

    Flaws : in a review.

    Dmitry, Kharkov

    FIAT Scudo I, 2002

I thought for a long time what kind of minivan to buy, only finances did not allow me to buy a Sharan Caddy, they advised Fiat Scudo, Peugeot Expert, Citroen Jumpy, they said that it was an inexpensive car. There are enough spare parts, the motor is unpretentious, maintenance is not expensive, and then they found a FIAT Scudo I “fresh” for little money with a 16-valve engine. And they brought me this car, at first I did not immediately like it, since the view is not very pretty, when I then drove and fell in love. Landing inside is very comfortable, driving when you see everything ahead and you can see a few cars ahead. The first time I went to my relatives in the Krasnodar Territory, I drove on the road for a long time, did not feel tired, then I realized that this was a great car. When buying a FIAT Scudo I, the mileage was 269 thousand km. I have owned the car for more than 3 years and more than 150 thousand km, I have changed a lot. What I changed in the FIAT Scudo I was the entire suspension, the engine was changed from 16 to 8 valve, then the head gasket was changed, it was broken then, I bought disks. About FIAT Scudo I can say that it is good on bad roads, it goes through pits well, the ground clearance is high, it can handle off-road if good tires stand. And so economical for a minivan, on the highway it takes 7.5 liters per hundred square meters at 140 km / h, I checked this when I went to Evpatoria at such a speed. Webasto with a timer is installed in the car, a very good thing, in winter it helps a lot.

Advantages : comfortable fit. visibility. Comfort. Reliability. Profitability.

    Flaws : I can't say anything bad.
