Review of Jeep Patriot 2014: appearance of the model, interior, specifications, security systems, prices and equipment. At the end of the article - test drive Jeep Patriot 2014!

Review content:

The history of the Jeep company dates back to the 40s of the last century. From the first days of its existence, the company positioned itself as a manufacturer of compact off-road vehicles, the hallmarks of which were simplicity, reliability and high off-road qualities. Jeep's most iconic vehicles were the Cherokee and Wrangler, which began production in 1973 and 1986, respectively, and continue to this day.

In 2006, the company officially introduced its new model, the Jeep Patriot, which placed itself between the compact Jeep Compass and the larger Jeep Cherokee. Serial production of the model began in 2007, and already in 2011, Jeep made a minor update that affected the technical component and the interior of the SUV, which by that time was noticeably lagging behind its Japanese and Korean competitors.

In 2014, the car received another restyling, as a result of which the Jeep Patriot received a slightly corrected appearance, improved finishing materials and new engines.

It is curious that in Russia the Jeep Patriot is presented under the name Liberty (Freedom), since by the time the car entered the Russian market, the name "Patriot" was assigned to the domestic automaker UAZ.

Jeep Patriot Exterior

The Jeep Patriot is a classic Jeep that has the looks of the legendary Willys and Wrangler. In place is a branded false radiator grille, represented by seven vertical slots, and round headlights, thanks to which the car is identified literally at a glance.

The car looks impressive and is perceived to be much larger than it really is. The main difference between the 2014 model year and the 2011 model year is a slightly different location of the fog lamps, which are now closer to the central part of the front bumper, and not along its edges, as it was before.

When looking at the profile of an SUV, large wheel arches, large front and rear doors, as well as a large glass area are striking. The stern of the "Patriot" is devoid of any design frills and is represented by a huge tailgate and vertical position lights of a rectangular shape. Special attention should be paid to the large mugs of the side mirrors and functional moldings located on the roof, allowing you to transport bulky cargo, which for one reason or another could not be placed in the trunk.

Jeep Patriot is a mid-size crossover, as evidenced by its dimensions:

  • Length- 4.424 m;
  • Width- 1.808 m;
  • Height- 1.667 m.
Ground clearance of 205 mm allows the car to feel confident even on difficult terrain. True, the picture is somewhat spoiled by the massive lip of the front bumper, which significantly reduces the geometric crossover crossover capability.

The Jeep Patriot is the most affordable car in the company's lineup, but even so, the car is in minimal demand on the Russian market, which is surprising, since the car is literally created for domestic roads.

Patriot interior

The first generation of the Jeep Patriot received a lot of criticism due to the clumsy interior design, which was dominated by hard plastic. However, it is worth mentioning that despite its “hardness”, the plastic was highly resistant to scratches, which is extremely important for a car whose element is off-road and dirt.

After the Chrysler company, which owned the Jeep brand, was bought out by the Fiat automaker, the Italians first took up the design and interior decoration.

Despite the fact that hard plastic was still used in the cabin, the interior of the car has become more modern and stylish due to the use of textured plastic in different shades, as well as stylish chrome elements.

The instrument panel has become more attractive, although the overall style and color of instrument lighting remained the same.

The car received a new more modern three-spoke steering wheel with the ability to control the multimedia system. The center console has also changed, where a large color display of the entertainment and information complex and a stylish climate control unit in the cabin have been registered. On the right side of the dashboard there are two glove compartments where an A4 sheet can easily fit.

The front row seats are large with barely perceptible lateral support and a small number of adjustments, but even so, a person of almost any build can easily sit behind the wheel of a crossover.

The second row of seats can easily accommodate three adult passengers, while there will be more than enough free space in length, width and height.

The car can easily claim the role of an expeditionary or tourist car, which is facilitated by a fairly large luggage compartment - the trunk volume is 537 liters, which exceeds the volume of the older model - Cherokee. If necessary, the trunk can be increased by folding the backs of the second row of seats, as a result of which you can get 1357 liters of free space and an almost perfectly flat floor.

Specifications Jeep Patriot 2014

Previously, the Jeep Patriot, like its “brother in the shop” Compass, was based on the GS / JS platform, which was the result of a collaboration between Daimler Chrysler and Mitsubishi Motors, and the updated “Patriot” got a slightly modified bogie that received the JX index and which was used on such models like Mitsubishi Outlander, Citroen C4 C-Crosser and Dodge Avenger.

The car is endowed with almost easy handling and a good ride, which was achieved thanks to the reconfiguration of the suspension and steering. On the Russian market, the car is presented exclusively in an all-wheel drive modification, which in normal driving mode directs up to 95% of the torque to the front axle, and in the event of front wheel slip, 60% of the torque can be transferred to the rear axle. In addition, the car is ready to boast the presence of a modified brake system, a low gear mode and an intelligent hill descent assistance system.

Russian buyers are offered a choice of two power units, which can be aggregated with a 6-level manual transmission or a stepless variator:

  1. A 2-liter 140-horsepower diesel engine that develops a maximum of 186 km / h and provides acceleration from 0 to 100 in 10.6 seconds. The fuel consumption of this engine in the combined cycle varies between 6.6-7.9 l / 100 km, which is a good indicator for a car of this class.
  2. 2.4-liter engine developing 172 hp and spending about 9.7 l / 100 km. The maximum speed of the gasoline engine is 201 km / h, while it takes 9.6 seconds to accelerate to the first hundred.
In general, the car behaves confidently both on the highway and on the countryside, where the family features of a true Jeep are fully revealed. The car easily copes with medium and large irregularities, as well as diagonal hanging, before which the lion's share of competitors in the face of Ford Kuga, KIA Sportage, Hyundai ix35 and others pass.

Safety

Compared to its predecessor, the updated Jeep Patriot received significant improvements in terms of passive and active safety, which was facilitated by an increase in body rigidity, the use of stronger steel grades, as well as an expanded list of electronic systems, including:
  • Anti-lock braking system with loose coating recognition function;
  • System of stabilization and exchange rate stability;
  • Parktronic;
  • Rear View Camera;
  • The system responsible for the rational distribution of braking forces;
  • Traction Control System (TCS);
  • Intelligent torque distribution system;
  • A pair of frontal airbags (optional side airbags are also available), etc.
Moreover, like any modern car, Patriot is equipped with three-point seat belts, as well as ISOFIX child seat anchorages, allowing you to consider the car as a family car.

Options and price Jeep Patriot 2014

At the time of release, the price of the Jeep Patriot, depending on the modification and level of equipment, ranged from 16 to 22 thousand dollars (976 thousand to 1.3 million rubles). Already in the basic equipment, the car offered the following list of equipment:
  • Frontal airbag;
  • Power steering wheel;
  • Disc brakes front rear;
  • Smart drive system 4x4;
  • Fabric upholstery;
  • Multifunction steering wheel;
  • Regular audio system;
  • ABS system, as well as TCS;
  • exchange rate stabilization system;
  • Manual transmission;
  • Full power package;
  • Air conditioner;
  • Wheel disks R17.
More expensive equipment additionally offered:
  • Side airbag;
  • Leather upholstery;
  • Advanced multimedia system with color display;
  • Cruise control;
  • Parktronic;
  • Assistant at the descent from the slope;
  • Climate control;
  • Power sunroof and more.

Conclusion

Summing up, it is worth noting that the 2014 Jeep Patriot is a fairly good car, captivating with its brutal appearance, roomy interior, good cross-country ability and rich equipment, which is available for quite adequate money. And if not for a number of minor oversights, the crossover could well have received the title of the most interesting and functional car in the SUV class.

2014 Jeep Patriot test drive:

The Jeep Patriot entered serial production in 2007, after about six months this model successfully reached the European car market. The last car rolled off the assembly line in 2010. You can find a photo of the Jeep Patriot car in the gallery of this model on the website http://auto.dmir.ru.
The Jeep Patriot was equipped with two types of gasoline engines: a two-liter with a capacity of 159 horsepower and a power unit with a volume of 2.4 liters, capable of delivering 175 horsepower. Two types of transmission were also available: a CVT and a five-speed manual gearbox. The volume of the gas tank is 51 liters. The average consumption of a Patriot model with a two-liter engine is 9 liters per 100 kilometers, a more powerful engine has an average consumption of 3 liters more. Jeep Patriot is 4410 mm long, 1756 mm wide and 1637 mm high. Trunk volume is 652 liters, and with the rear seats folded down 1535 liters. The main drive of the Patriot model is front, however, there is a modification with a connected rear axle, thereby making the SUV all-wheel drive. You can find more detailed specifications on our website auto.dmir.ru.
The basic equipment of the Jeep Patriot includes power steering, air conditioning, ABS, full-size spare wheel, 2 airbags, heated seats. An extended list of equipment (available for a surcharge) includes seat upholstery in easy-clean YES Essentials fabric, adjustable steering column, power folding mirrors with heating, seat adjustment memory, 1-touch power windows on the driver's side, rain sensor, 6 airbags, climate control, fog lights and alloy wheels.
Positive feedback has also earned the safety of this model. The Jeep Patriot was tested by the American Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) and scored well with four stars for driver protection in frontal crashes and five stars for the other three, giving the car a five-star rating. You can discuss Jeep Patriot and other models of this brand in the "Clubs and Discussions" section.

Few people buy such cars purposefully, usually it is a spontaneous purchase. This happened to me, although it all started quite ordinary. It was in the fall of 2016...

My wife, who had already received her license for two years, told me that she was tired of sharing my VW Polo with me and that she wanted her own car for a long time. In principle, I myself already understood that for the time being I had to buy a new wife. It’s inconvenient for two people to drive in one car (it’s good at least we drive to work in the same place for now). In general, we decided - we buy.

What are the guidelines?

1) High.

2) On the machine (preferably, but not required).

3) Budget 500 thousand rubles (maximum 550).

4) Not old.

5) Four-wheel drive is optional.

6) The engine is at least 2 liters and without a turbine.

The third point smoothly crossed out the fourth.

What could be bought for this amount? The most affordable new "high" Sandero Stepway cars and the most empty Duster cost from 630 thousand. No chance. We started looking at used ones. Here are the ones that went to watch:

Dusters for 500 were the most empty or problematic and everything was on the handle.

Suzuki Grand Vitara three-door with 1.6 engine or tortured four-door.

Mitsubishi outlander 2005-10 were good options, but never grew together.

Nissan X-trail 2003-2005 almost all tired.

Kia Sorento 2001-2004 are too old.

Of course there were other options, but either expensive, or trash, or my wife did not like it. In general, for about a month and a half they chose, looked - nothing worthwhile. We started looking at completely non-standard options and ... we saw it!

The Jeep brand is known to most (I am also one of them) by the Grand Cherokee model - gangster, healthy, frame, with a large engine and a considerable price. In general, I did not even look at the Jeep sales section. And here you are: an inexpensive, relatively small, not very old (2007) and stylish handsome man. With a good motor, automatic and in a good configuration.

How so? I started poking around on the Internet - ahaaaa! The body and interior are from a jeep, and the filling is from the Japanese (mainly from Mitsubishi). The motor is a joint development of the Japanese and Americans. Automatic - variator Jatco JF011E (damn, variator!) One of the most reliable at that time.

In general, let's go to the bride. In reality, it is even more beautiful (although there are Kotska and a couple of small dents), the interior is in a cheerful state (unlike the same Sorento and X-trail with their already burnt interiors), the seats are leather. Painted only a small piece of the rear, left wing. Mileage 90,000 km. Well, the mileage in all respects must be wound up. Decided to look at the state. We went to the official Jeep salon for a complete diagnosis of the car, we were especially interested in the machine and the engine. Verdict: the suspension is tired, but the engine and CVT are in excellent condition. Although, as far as I know, the variator, until you take it apart, you’ll know the state of the hell. In any case, during the test drive, everything turned out beautifully.

We left a deposit and went home to think about what we saw.

Peppy and reliable engine (2.4 liters 170 horses)

Beautiful and unusual appearance, the car still looks relevant.

Inside, too, everything is quite nice and not worn out.

Good ground clearance and flat bottom.

Automatic, not manual.

Pluggable all-wheel drive.

Good equipment.

The car itself is quite rare and immediately catches the eye. Brutal appearance and red color - a hell of a mixture (this plus is not for everyone).

Variable speed drive. Everyone is afraid of him and considers him an unreliable node (only the first DSGs are worse).

American body and interior parts are not so easy to find and they are likely to be original and very expensive.

Since the car is not popular with us, it will be oh so hard to sell it later.

The main disadvantage is of course the variator. This topic has been covered for a long time. The worst thing is that it is poorly predictable and diagnosable. Today you drive as if nothing had happened, and tomorrow you are already saving money for repairs. On the other hand, it is placed on a bunch of very popular machines from different manufacturers. Shit won't be that popular. Although what is there to argue? Until that time, I myself had never dealt with CVTs, so this is all theory.

In general, the car sunk into our soul. My wife and I looked at a couple more options, but without any particular interest. Phoned the owner of the jeep, bargained for the suspension, and quickly bought a car.

We bought it in the fall of 2016, now (July 2018) the mileage is 116,000 km - the flight is normal. For all the time they changed the oil in the engine with filters and shook up the suspension (this is still left from the previous owner). The rest of the car does not require attention. The only thing left to do is to change the oil in the variator.

crossover Jeep Patriot was created in 2007 based on the Compass model. However, it is outwardly more masculine than its twin brother, with increased ground clearance and bottom protection, and can also have all-wheel drive with a reduction gear. Not bad for a crossover.
Salon Jeep Patriot, as befits a descendant of the army, simple and plastic. And American-style plastic is hard. But it's not business class. The steering wheel is height adjustable only. However, multiple adjustments to the driver's seat offset this shortcoming. There are no complaints about the build quality.
There is exactly as much space in the back as you need to sit comfortably and not push your knees against the back of the front seat. The center armrest is missing. Useful trunk volume JeepPatriot is 335 liters in the normal position and 1275 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Engine range Jeep Patriot represented by 2 and 2.4-liter gasoline production Mitsubishi with a capacity of 158 hp. and 174 hp respectively, and a 2-liter turbodiesel from VW with a capacity of 140 hp Gasoline engines were installed in tandem with a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. They are structurally simple and reliable. Turbodiesel - with a new 6-speed "mechanics" and all-wheel drive. On cars Jeep Patriot for the domestic market of America, Japanese variators were often installed. Junior gasoline is intended only for mono-drive versions.
As a result of the 2011 facelift, it was decided to replace the VW engine with the Mercedes-Benz OM651 engine with 163 hp. It was more powerful and much more economical.
The front is an independent McPherson-type suspension with anti-roll bar. At the rear, a multi-link scheme is also used with a stabilizer. Suspension Jeep Patriot pleases with energy intensity on the primer, but on asphalt it may seem tough. Manageability and does like a passenger car.
Under normal road conditions, the front axle "works" mainly, the rear axle is connected when slipping through an electronically controlled clutch. All-wheel drive can also be set manually forcibly, but this will only be an electronic imitation. Although charged trim levels or for an additional fee, the Freedom Drive II transmission is installed, which includes underbody protection, a reduction gear, increased ground clearance and an advanced traction control system.
This is a practical, high-quality and most affordable crossover in the Jeep line, which is quite capable of moderate off-road. Jeep Patriot more suitable for young buyers who value style, name and reliability, but are not ready for significant financial investments.

I share my impressions about the car, which I first bought only because of the cost. Behind already 150,000 km of run - I do not regret anything. 1. Salon. Yes, the seats do not have pronounced lateral support, but I traveled long distances, nothing hurts. "Cheap" plastic is perfectly washed and does not creak at all. And most importantly, if you fold the backs of the front and back rows, you can spend the night perfectly together. 2. Patency. On Russian routes, he feels great. Problems: has a relationship with the old Outlander, which is useful in matters of spare parts, but, unfortunately, not all. At 120,000 km, I replaced the hub bearings - Autovsky 1800 (original 4000 rubles). The variator box is as long-lived as the out, but you also need to be able to ride it. It is characterized by smooth acceleration, although it can shoot. The front levers cause special questions - I have enough of them for 30-40 thousand km (about a year of driving). I spat on expensive originals, I buy either Chinese or Korean counterparts, although it’s not a pity to throw it away after a year. Also at 12,000 km I changed small levers. And that's it! Although no, at 80,000 I still had to remove and boil the exhaust pipe of the muffler and pierce the catalyst. Consumption is always no more than 13 liters in the city and 11 liters on the highway, although once on a cruise at a speed of 75 km / h the consumption was a record - 6.7 liters per 100 km.

I have been running the car for 8 months, mileage is 11500 km. The 2007 Guards car was purchased in May 2008, so I took it at a discount, as a result it cost 825 thousand rubles. I bought a car only because of the fact that there is a Volkswagen diesel. Still happy with the purchase. The dynamics are good, the consumption of diesel fuel for such an engine is quite moderate. Suspension satisfied in all respects. Car keeps well on the road even in winter. Naturally, this is not a 100% SUV, but for the money, all-wheel drive is quite worthy, there is even an interaxle forced lock. I like that the elephant is rag, and there are mechanics (for example, it is almost impossible to find a car in such a configuration among the Americans). I didn’t have to order additional options, the P1 package can offer everything you need for life (cruise control too, instead of climate, a simple air conditioner, but you can live with it). Problems: steering wheel not sharp enough, small fuel tank (only 51 liters). Under the torpedo, something cracks, and the pads creak. Changed the speakers under warranty - they wheezed. There were no more problems with the car, they arose with the dealer: they forced me to undergo unnecessary maintenance for 5000 km (although it is not mentioned in the service book). But in Russia, rarely anyone is happy to communicate with dealers.

Bought this car (diesel, 2 l) 5 months. Back, I share my first impressions and observations. The car is not big. Very playful machine. Comfortable and spacious interior, a lot of plastic, but it does not creak and washes well. Enough space for a comfortable ride for rear passengers, besides, the rear seat is adjustable for tilt! Diesel fuel consumption in Moscow traffic jams is -8.3 liters per hundred. The native music is good too. Soundproofing is also quite good, the engine is almost inaudible in the cabin, although it is quite noisy. Handling is excellent, it holds the road well, there are almost no rolls in corners, bumps seem to be swallowed. You just need to get used to the operation of the cruise control and paddle shifters. It has not yet been possible to check the off-road qualities, but it overcomes the blurry primer on the way to the dacha by 5. Cons: a small glove compartment, and the luggage compartment too (if the rear seats are not folded), the armrest is hard, and the headrest is just oak, but in general everything is OK.

Automobiles have always had a special place in American culture. It is natural that different manufacturers tried to create a model that would embody the American way of thinking and lifestyle in their own way. Powerful and brutal car Jeep Patriot is one of these vehicles.

Depending on the specific model, all Jeep Patriot cars have the following characteristics:

  • Body type five-door station wagon;
  • Engine displacement from 1998 to 2360 cubic centimeters;
  • Power from 159 to 175 horsepower;
  • The engine is located in front, transversely;
  • Fuel supply system - injector, distributed injection;
  • Front or all-wheel drive;
  • Engine type L4;
  • Five-speed manual transmission.

Features of the Jeep Patriot

Compared to other American cars, this car is equipped not with a traditional automatic transmission with a torque converter, but with a manual continuously variable CVT with a choice of fixed gear ratios. This system is more durable and easier to maintain than automatic transmissions.

In general, the technical characteristics of the Jeep Patriot are primarily aimed at ensuring maximum reliability, power and high cross-country ability. In addition, it should be noted that the creators have done everything to ensure that this machine is as practical as possible. At the same time, depending on the driving style, fuel consumption can be ten liters per hundred kilometers, which is a very good indicator for an American car.

The standard models of this car are equipped with a 2.4-liter L4 engine, which was developed in collaboration with brands such as Hyundai and Mitsubishi. It is made in Michigan.

Thanks to the proprietary variable valve timing system VVT, it allows you to get good traction and power characteristics. At the same time, to reduce vibrations and noise from engine operation, special balancing shafts are used in combination with a crankcase and valve cover, which are made of two layers of steel with a noise-absorbing layer.

As in traditional systems, the torque is primarily supplied through the gearbox to the front axle, and to the rear through the ECC clutch. This clutch is a two-level system in which low force is transmitted by electromagnetic force and large force by multi-plate design. This allows for maximum efficiency of the mechanism and long-term operation even under the most difficult operating conditions.

The appearance of the car combines the features of classic SUVs and modern cars. Classic vertical slots in the grille, combined with round headlights, are reminiscent of the Willys brand heritage, which, in combination with flat body panels and trapezoidal wheel arches, creates a stunning appearance.

In general, the Jeep Patriot can be safely called a car that will appeal to both lovers of the classics and those who appreciate modern trends in car design.

As already mentioned, this car is the epitome of convenience, reliability and practicality. This was embodied in the interior design of the cabin, which was thought out to the smallest detail. The instrument panel has everything you need to travel, even a compass.

The materials used for upholstery and panels are easy to clean and highly durable. Near the front and rear seats there are convenient cup holders, although it should be noted that their location makes sitting in the center of the second row somewhat uncomfortable.

In order for passengers to sit in maximum comfort, the rear seat parts can be tilted separately, and if necessary, they can be completely folded down to increase the volume of the trunk. This allows you to increase it from 334 to 1277 liters. In addition, in order to carry long items in the Jeep Patriot, the front passenger seat can be folded forward.

In order for passengers to have an easy meal right in the car, the front seat can also be turned into a convenient table.

Good sound insulation combined with a high-rise glazing line creates a feeling of complete protection from the outside world.

Lightweight and comfortable steering wheel with easy height adjustment allows you to drive safely and with pleasure.

Safety

To ensure maximum passenger safety, this model is equipped with the Brake Assist emergency braking system, which allows you to stop the car as quickly as possible. Airbags for the driver and passenger in the front are also factory-fitted.

Despite the fact that the Jeep Patriot can be safely considered one of the best American SUVs, this car also has a number of shortcomings that may seem insignificant to some, but for some become a weighty argument against buying this model.

These include:

  • Insufficient quality tuning of the chassis, due to which the car lost a little in stability and controllability. So, for example, when making quick turns on asphalt, the car may begin to sway and roll;
  • The ESP stabilization system does not always work effectively, which is why the car may slip when climbing on wet or slippery surfaces;
  • Lack of cruise control.

Of course, for every real driver, it is not the technical characteristics of the Jeep Patriot that are primarily important, but the driving experience and the real capabilities of the car.

When you press the gas pedal all the way, the reaction does not come immediately, but with some "thoughtfulness". In some cases, this feature prevents you from making quick overtaking.

When driving on a hard surface, in normal mode, the car feels almost front-wheel drive, since almost all the torque is transferred to the front wheels. But as soon as the car starts to slip, the rear axle is connected using the ECC clutch.

If you go off-road, then you can not wait for the rear axle to be connected using electronics and the ECC clutch, but immediately block it using the handle on the central tunnel.

On the pavement, the Jeep Patriot demonstrates miracles of comfort, thanks to independent wheel suspension. Moreover, even on dirt roads with strong drops, only slight shocks to the body are felt.

Jeep Patriot car models

The Jeep Patriot was most popular in the CIS countries in 2008, the production of this model began in 2007. Of course, over time, the car has undergone certain changes, although it should be noted that the models that are produced and sold were now created in 2010 and haven't changed much since then.

The existing Jeep Patriot 2016 lineup is divided into two versions - for the American and European markets. The American version has a front-wheel drive option, as well as a number of additional systems, in particular cruise control.

Otherwise, the models do not have significant differences.
