Motor Skyactive 2.0 Mazda CX 5 is not just a beautiful marketing ploy, but also a serious design work. The Japanese decided to apply all the best in engine building in one unit. The in-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine has an aluminum cylinder block and an aluminum cylinder head, direct fuel injection, a variable valve timing system, a timing chain drive. Hydraulic compensators are also installed in the head of the block.

The crankshaft is laid in a common aluminum pastel. In the aluminum block are the so-called "wet" cast-iron sleeves. There is also an EGR system (exhaust afterburning). The motor received a unique intake and exhaust system. In particular, the creators of the two-liter SkyActiv-G used elongated 4-2-1 exhaust manifolds (the so-called spider), so that exhaust gases would be removed from the combustion chamber as freely as possible without interfering with mixture formation.

But the most noticeable feature of this motor is the compression ratio, which is increased to an incredible 14:1 !!! For example, for a conventional gasoline engine, this figure is around 10. I’ll immediately answer the question - why the Mazda CX-5 in the Active + package? Considering previous experience, I only considered a crossover for myself - well, I didn’t want to change to a sedan or hatchback at all - even though I drive around the city most of the time, I’m already used to a car that can, if anything, pull out of the city and jump straight through the mud . And heaps of snow heaped on snow blowers do not become an insurmountable obstacle.

That is, only a crossover was considered for purchase - no options, the only question was which one to choose. And among crossovers, Mazda somehow immediately attracted attention - first in appearance, then you need to take into account the characteristics. Ground clearance immediately pleased - almost 21 cm, and this is a very important indicator for a "pocket" SUV.

As is power. For the sake of power, I chose “active +”, which squeezes almost two hundred horses out of its 2.5 liters. And let's not forget about the two leaders.

I also considered the diesel option (Mazda CX 5 2 2). Less power, but more torque, and this can be more important than power for storming mud (which, by the way, not everyone knows about). But in the end, my "inner Schumacher" took over and the choice settled on a faster version of 2.5.

The first impression is excellent. Still, the power of the motor makes itself felt very strongly. The car literally takes off. True, I did not see the declared 8s to a hundred. Of course, I didn’t measure with a stopwatch, but it felt closer to 10. Probably, the testers measured with an empty car and half a liter of fuel in the tank.

But high-speed tests are already later: manufacturers recommend the first 1000 km of run to remain calm, the new engine needs to be “developed gradually”.

In general, I can say that I personally like the car more than the previous experience (RAV4). There was no opportunity to compare with the two-liter "sister" on the go. Salon and appearance differ little, the whole thing is under the hood.

It is too early to judge the reliability, too little data. Departure of 5000 km, I only changed the “consumables” - filters and light bulbs.

In general, today I am more than satisfied, but how it will be longer - life will show.

third generation

The next generation CX 5 was unveiled in Los Angeles at the end of 2016. Compared to the restyled model, the novelty has a completely redesigned appearance and interior space. Accordingly, the technical specifications have also changed.

In terms of overall dimensions: the length decreased to 4550 mm, the height increased to 1680 mm, the width of 1840 mm and the base of 2700 mm remained the same. The new body received 15% greater torsional rigidity due to the use of high-strength steels. In addition, the car's ground clearance is reduced to 200 mm. In terms of design, the new generation CX-5 crossover is similar to the new crossovers from the CX-3 and CX-9 lineup.

Power units and gearbox options repeat the equipment of the previous Mazda CX 5. Under the hood of the novelty for Russia, only SKYACTIVE-G gasoline engines with some changes. The power of the 2-liter engine is “strangled by taxes” to 150 hp. The 2.5-liter engine added power from 192 to 194 hp. This was achieved by reducing friction losses, changing the shape of pistons with oil scraper rings of an asymmetric profile. The drive is carried out on the front axle, as an alternative, all-wheel drive is offered with the AWD i-Activ clutch, which redistributes part of the thrust to the rear wheels.

The economy characteristics of the Mazda CX 5 2017 are considered the best in this category.

The suspension of the new CX-5 is built according to the usual scheme - front MacPherson strut and rear independent multi-link. Changes have been made to the design, in particular, shock absorbers of a larger diameter and hydraulic silent blocks are used in front. That reduces the buildup of the body and reduces the vibrations transmitted to the cabin when cornering.

The steering and braking systems have been upgraded here. So, the steering mechanism, also equipped with an electric booster, is now mounted rigidly on the subframe, and the brake system with all disc mechanisms has the function of holding the car even when the brake pedal is released.

The CX 5 2012 systems included driver and passenger front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, pretensioner belts and active head restraints.
