The Chelyabinsk Machine-Building Plant has been producing road equipment of the DZ series since 1978. During this time, changes have been made to the design several times. This is how the DZ-98 model was created, the technical characteristics of which indicate that it is the most powerful road equipment.

Purpose of technology

The DZ-98 grader is powered by a YaMZ-238ND2 diesel engine with a turbocharging system for 8 cylinders, YaMZ-240G for 12 cylinders, or Cummins. Both options are started using a starter. The crankshaft speed, at which the maximum power is 1.7 thousand revolutions per minute.

The maximum power of the YaMZ-238NDZ engine is 170 kW. For Cummins M-11C265 - 202 kW.


power transmission

Transmission unit - mechanical. It transmits rotation to the drive wheels. It is possible to disconnect from them, change direction and speed. Used for hydraulic pumps.

The power transmission assembly is connected to the motor flywheel. The rotation of the crankshaft is transmitted from the engine to the power transmission unit through a flexible coupling.

The brake used for parking or holding on a slope is a band brake. The clutch is dry, double disc.

Chassis

The wheel formula of the motor grader DZ-98 is 1*3*3. In this case, all bridges are leading.

Feature of DZ-98 motor graders: their middle and rear axles are interchangeable.

The axle shafts do not perceive the radial load from the wheels and are called unloaded. They can withstand significant loads.

To reduce the speed, a multi-disc wheel brake is used, the ceramic-metal discs of which are located inside the oil bath.

Suspensions of the middle and rear axles - balanced, with jet rods. They provide the movement of bridges in a vertical plane.

The front axle of the motor grader is driving and steered. This provides high traction on the blade, improved cross-country ability.

Motor grader hydraulic system

Through the devices of the hydraulic system, the clutch, side blade, maneuvering and movement of the motor grader are controlled.

The system consists of 2 circuits in which gear pumps are installed. Hydraulic cylinders are used as actuators. The hydraulic motor can be installed in the blade turning mechanism.

Pneumatic system

The pneumatic system of the unit consists of two circuits. It allows you to control the wheel brakes and the lever for suspension of attachments. Service and emergency braking are independent of each other. Controls the pressure inside the system indicator light.

Motor grader control process

Management of systems and mechanisms is carried out:

  • mechanically- gearbox, parking brake, front axle, reverse, multiplier;

Actuators of the unit

The main working body of the motor grader is a blade with a knife, which is fixed to the traction frame. It has the ability to rotate in a vertical and horizontal plane, move up and down. The dumping device can be taken out to the side.

Hinged track-laying mechanisms make the machine multifunctional. This:

  • soil ripper;
  • scarifying device for crushing dense soils and the previous road surface;
  • bulldozer blade;
  • side grader blade.

In winter, a special wing is installed on the dump, which throws snow to the side of the road. Using an additional side wing, drifts can be removed behind the fence. The front sheet at low speed shifts the snow to the side, and at high speed it scatters it for a dozen meters. As a result of such cleaning, no snow bank is formed along the road.

Bulldozer equipment is used for backfilling pits, making excavations. Soils of 1–2 categories are moved without preparation, 3–4 and frozen ones are pre-loosened.

The motor grader DZ 98 is a special technique that is used for earthmoving and profiling work in large volumes, in the construction and maintenance of roads on soils of 1-4 categories.

The manufacturer has provided in the configuration various attachments that significantly expand the technological capabilities of the DZ-98 grader. On the rear linkage, you can install a ripper-scarifier, with which the driver of the motor grader loosens the soil. An additional wing can be installed on the grader blade, which allows the snow mass to be thrown to the side of the road during snow removal. An additional side plow allows you to remove snow behind the fences.

All the main functions of the D3-98 motor grader are performed using a special working body, which is a blade with a knife mounted on the frame of the machine and driven by a diesel engine. They can perform the functions of lowering, lifting, turning in the vertical and horizontal plane.

This motor grader has excellent maneuverability and a change in the angle of the blade in the planes, and the blade can also be moved to the side.

In order to increase labor productivity and improve the working conditions of the operator in this technique, containing the main frame, balancers, an automatic control system for the position of the blade, a working body and proportional sensors. In addition, an additional sensor is mounted on the second balancer.

Gear box

Chassis and suspension

The motor grader DZ-98 is equipped with a 1x3x3 wheel arrangement and three drive axles. The front axle is controlled and obeys the steering mechanism. The main gear is a conical single-stage. Frame

Welded construction of the head, main and rear pipes. The front axle, interchangeable executive equipment, ball-type traction frame support are fixed on the head part. The pipe of the main part has brackets for fastening the cardan, which transmits rotation to the front axle. The cavities of the pipe part serve as a brake air system receiver. Pneumatic system

A two-circuit device that provides a drive for wheel brakes and a lever for suspension of traction frame equipment. The brake drive provides independent operating and emergency braking modes. Before starting the movement of the unit, compressed air is pumped into the receiver.

Application

Due to its high power and productivity, the machine can work both in road and municipal construction, in irrigation and melioration systems. The equipment allows using the grader for loosening and excavation of soils from the first to the fourth grades. The gearbox is switched by a lever, the front wheels and actuators are controlled by hydraulics, the wheel brakes are controlled by pneumatics.

Review

The progenitor of special equipment for planning and other work of the DZ-98 motor grader is the Chelyabinsk ChSDM plant, which began production of this class of units in 1978. Over the years of the plant's existence, several stages of modernization have passed, and today this is one of the few operating types of motor grader equipment, where the manufacturer of the DZ-98 grader has become a new plant of the JV "RM - Turks", which included the Chelyabinsk ChSDM plant.

Power aggregate parameters of the machine

The Chelyabinsk manufacturer uses domestic power units of Yaroslavl production, which have the following modification - diesel engines for four cycles, V-shaped, eight-cylinder YaMZ-8482, YaMZ-238NDZ, YaMZ-238ND2 and twelve-cylinder YaMZ-240G. In a number of cases, in order to adapt the operation of the aggregate plant according to the declared parameters, where the fuel consumption per hour of the DZ-98 grader must correspond to the main parameters stated in the technical documentation, motors from the Ural manufacturer, known as U1D6-TK-S5, are used. Good test results for fuel consumption per 100 km of the DZ-98 motor grader are indicators of power plants made in the USA, in particular from Cummins, the serial model range M-11C265. Free access to the power plants is provided by the implementation of an interesting version of the hood from the casing. Under the hood there is also an advanced air cleaning device system, which, together with the gas exhaust muffling system, is located in the lower part of the hood. An additional device for the technical characteristics of the DZ-98 grader on the YaMZ-238ND2 power plant affects the direct fuel injection mode, which in turn is equipped with a turbocharging mode.

Transmission characteristics

The machine is provided with a mechanical system of the unit device, which transmits the torque mode to three bridges simultaneously, while it is allowed to turn off the cardan part of the first control bridge of the DZ-98 motor grader. On the middle, as well as on the rear axle, the drive mode is carried out using an intermediate type of cardan, which functions directly from the distribution gearbox for the 1-row type, together with a belt-type parking brake.

In turn, additional technical units, in particular the gearbox, as well as the clutch mechanism, gear components for the active drive of the hydraulic pump system are combined in a complex section of the block, they also have a conditional unified and common lubrication complex control system.

The gearbox has a universal multiplier type of execution, where the control mechanism is allowed for 6 main parameters and torque values ​​for the forward and reverse mode.

The clutch for the motor grader is dry type, which indicates the presence of a hydraulic servo for shutting down the machine.
