Luggage securing harness: secure cargo in any situation. How to take to the country at once and a lot (real tips) How to secure the load on the roof of the car

It will sound trite, but... Before you load the roof rack, carefully read the operating instructions for the car. For what? It happens that a universal trunk is unknowingly put on a car that is not intended for this at all. For example, the body of the Peugeot 408 sedan is not equipped with the necessary amplifiers, so the installation of roof rails and crossbars is prohibited. If the installation of the roof rack is allowed, read what is the permissible weight of the transported cargo. Usually it is 50-70 kg.

“Just fifty kilos? - the experienced motorist will be surprised. - I drove three centners on the roof of the "six"! We willingly believe. For VAZ models, from "penny" to "nine", the trunk was attached to the gutters located along the edges of the roof, which could withstand significant overload. On modern cars, standard roof rails (longitudinal rails for transporting goods) or transverse luggage racks rest directly on the roof, so “getting” to straighten out dents is a trifle. More precisely, a couple of extra boards.

And do not think that reinsurers write instructions. Of course, engineers have laid down a certain margin of safety, so dents will not appear immediately on the roof of a car that is regularly overloaded. Or they won't show up. It depends on the case: how big the overload is, what roads to drive on (the more bumps, the more chances to get a dent) and ... what kind of luggage you need to carry. Yes Yes! Much depends on the cargo itself. Here are some tips if you have to deliver on the trunk ...

...lumber

The most common mistake lumber haulers make is misjudging the weight of the load. A good example: how much does a 3-meter "magpie" board weigh? Whole 10 kg! This is if we assume that the mass of one cubic meter of dry pine wood is 600 kg (sometimes more when the material is not well dried). Thus, you can load only ... 5 such boards on the rails, and not 15-20, as many would like.

Therefore, look at how many cubic meters the purchase pulled - in the documents, conscientious sellers write both the quantity and volume of lumber. And then we multiply the volume by the reference mass of one cubic meter of the desired type of wood and thus find out how much your cargo weighs. Here is an example. The invoice contains 0.336 cubic meters of dry spruce board, which we multiply by 450 kg (1 cubic meter of spruce wood weighs so much), and we get 151 kg. This means that in order to deliver so much material in a passenger car, it will take three walkers.

If you load lumber in 6-meter bundles, a huge moment of inertia will swing the luggage, which will then pull out the trunk racks, then press them in. The most noticeable effect will be on bad roads, when the pendulum oscillations are especially strong.

...pipes

With metal, the situation is similar - it is difficult for the layman to estimate its mass. We will not give calculation formulas for each type of metal profile, since they are well known to metal depot workers, but we will restrict ourselves to the formula for a round pipe. So, in order to find out how much one linear meter of a round steel pipe weighs, you need to subtract the thickness from the outer diameter, and multiply the result by the thickness and multiply by 0.025 again. For reference, we give the masses of the most common pipes with a thickness of 3.5 mm: with a diameter of 76 mm - 6.3 kg (linear meter), 89 mm - 7.6 kg.

At the same time, pipes (as well as any other metal products) have one extremely unpleasant feature: the friction between the steel trunk and the steel pipe is small, therefore, during acceleration and braking, rolled metal can move back and forth. If the trunk crossbars are covered with a layer of rubber, the problem disappears. Otherwise, it would be useful to put a piece of rubber under the luggage - for example, ordinary latex gloves.

Other difficulties - as in the transportation of wood. The pipes must not be allowed to begin to sway (this is possible even on a perfectly flat road, under the influence of an oncoming air flow), otherwise they will easily tear out the trunk mounts - you should securely fasten the luggage and stop regularly to check and tighten the mounts. Also, when loading "to the eyeballs", bad roads should be avoided so as not to flush the roof. In general, the shorter the pipes (or boards), the smoother the asphalt and the more moderate the speed, the less likely it is to damage the bodywork.

... plywood and polycarbonate

Very dangerous cargo! At a speed of 100 km / h, any plate with an area of 1 square meter can create a lift force of the order of 300 N. To make it clearer, let's make a simple comparison: for the first aircraft, whose wings did not evolve much from ordinary plywood, the load per square meter of the wing was the same 300 N. So, seemingly harmless sheets can easily raise the front of the car above the road (and this is an inevitable loss of control), or ... tear off the trunk! No kidding.

How to avoid it? When transporting sheet materials, do not accelerate faster than 50-60 km/h. This is an axiom. We also advise you to securely fasten the load: it is important that the front of the sheet does not rise above the trunk. To do this, you need to connect the sheets together (best with clamps - if you often transport sheet materials, do not be stingy with buying them), or by pressing the plywood on top with a long bar or heavy luggage like boards. Of course, with the second option, we must not forget about the maximum allowable load.

And you won’t find much on rubber bands! It is better to tie sheet materials with straps or ropes, since the flow of incoming air can lift the load so much that the “elastic bands” stretch to the limit and burst. Also keep in mind that plywood tends to “play”: fasteners can loosen on irregularities, so regular monitoring and tightening are needed. And do not be alarmed if the car will be controlled somewhat unusually - keep in mind that a wing, albeit imperfect, is fixed above the roof.

About the rest

In order to carry luggage to the destination without incident, it is enough to observe 5 simple tips, proven over the years.

1. Take your time. When transporting the announced 50 kg, the height of the center of gravity increases by 10-12%, which negatively affects stability and controllability. And the greater the mass of the load, the more difficult it is to control the machine. So tune in to a slow, calm movement without sharp acceleration and deceleration and sharp turns.

2. Attach the load securely. And always do this, not allowing yourself excuses like “yes, there are literally a couple of kilometers here, this piece of plywood is not going anywhere.” How else will it go: fly away to another car, slide back, crushing the trunk lid - in general, there are a lot of options. And if there is a long road ahead, stop regularly and check if the fasteners are loose.

3. Don't skimp on fasteners. If you know that you will regularly carry luggage on the roof, assemble a set of fasteners: a couple of long strong ropes, a couple of tie-down straps, a set of rigging elastic bands ... And there are also special metal “stoppers”, special fasteners that are worn directly on the trunk and greatly facilitate transportation oversized cargo.

4. Always check the trunk. It is necessary to check the fastening of the trunk not only before each shipment, but also after unloading. Suddenly, the lodgements loosened under the weight of things? And if you never remove the crossbars, look at the condition of the body under the mounts: very often the latter rub the paint down to the metal, provoking corrosion pockets.

5. Count your money. Empty, without luggage, the trunk at a speed of 80 km / h increases fuel consumption by 5-10%, and with a load, consumption can increase by 30%! So consider whether it is more profitable to hire a Gazelle-format truck, especially if there are several walkers. Moreover, the services of carriers are now relatively inexpensive due to the abundance of offers.

What do traffic rules say

An entire chapter is devoted to the transportation of goods in the SDA. We will highlight a few important points that will be useful to motorists.

  • The rules of the road require that the luggage does not restrict the driver's view, does not impede driving and does not violate the stability of the vehicle, does not cover external lighting devices and reflectors, registration and identification marks, does not create noise, does not generate dust, does not pollute the road and the environment.
  • Cargo protruding beyond the dimensions of the machine in front and behind by more than 1 m or to the side by more than 0.4 m from the outer edge of the marker light must be marked with signs "Oversized cargo". No red rags! Only a special sign. At night and in conditions of insufficient visibility, a white flashlight or reflector is also needed in front, and a red flashlight or reflector in the back.
  • In fact, the transportation of goods that exceed 2.55 m in width and 4 m in height from the surface of the carriageway is prohibited. To do this, you need to coordinate the route and obtain a special permit from the traffic police. Also, traffic rules prohibit the luggage to protrude more than 2 meters beyond the rear point of the vehicle's dimensions.

For violation of the rules for the transportation of goods, the Code of Administrative Offenses provides for a warning or a 500-ruble fine.

Transportation of long cargoes
If you decide to bring siding, several packs of lining, or any long-sized item, you need to keep in mind that it is better to pack it in a rectangular package, and not distribute it along the plane of the luggage crossbar. For its fastening, it is better to use two or more luggage belts. When securing the load with a strap, it is very important that the luggage strap on each side is fixed to the protruding edge (from the support outward) of the arc. When tying, it is not recommended to use belts with ratchet mechanisms, and with "ratchets" because when tightened, the luggage arches themselves can be displaced from the seats, which can lead to their loosening and even detachment of the trunk from the roof. This recommendation applies not only to attaching the trunk to the doorway, but also to attaching it to regular places. With strong lateral pressure, which may occur due to belt tension, the gum adjacent to the roof comes out of its seat, gaps are formed and the trunk may loosen. It is especially important to take into account that it is possible to fasten cargo to the trunk only ALONG the luggage arc, when fastened across, the whole structure hangs on tensioned straps, which has a very bad effect on the reliability of fastening the trunk and cargo.
Transportation of wide things with a large "perus"
When designing Thule, Inno, LUX, Atlant and Amos and DELTA roof racks, engineers primarily take into account the vertical load, this is usually written in the technical data sheet of the roof rack and indicated in the instructions. It is important to understand that more than one manufacturer does not test for “vertical tear up”, so if you decide to transport a door on the trunk, transport sheets of drywall, plywood, or material with a wide surface, be sure to take into account the weather conditions (strong wind), strictly observe the speed limit mode no more than 80 km per hour! When driving with a roof rack and "sail" cargo on the roof, try to keep the speed limit and avoid sudden maneuvers. When attaching sheets of wide material to the trunk, the same recommendations should be taken into account as when attaching a more “compact” load. That is, in no case do not tie the load along the car body, only the load itself can be tied along, in addition, do not use ratchet straps, as uncontrolled voltage on the arcs can displace the trunk from its mounting points and weaken the fastening strength to the roof. To secure the load, it is better to use special Cybermag belts with a steel buckle; in dry and wet weather, they hold the fastening well, protect the trunk from constriction and cannot deform the car’s paintwork if the steel belt buckles come into contact with the body during vibration.

24.02.2015

Few motorists plan to carry something bulky and heavy on the top trunk. What for? A standard compartment in the back of the car for personal items and even some (least dimensional) building materials is enough. But there are situations when the capabilities of the "iron horse" have to be used 100%, including loading the roof. But can it be done? What rules to follow? How to organize transportation? We will talk about this in the article.

Let's remember traffic rules

To begin with, let's refresh our memory of the requirements of traffic rules regarding the transportation of goods. I would like to note that each paragraph of the rules is written on the basis of many years of experience, and the main goal of the traffic rules as a whole is the maximum safety of all road users.

Look in the technical manual of your car - the permissible load weight for the roof rack should be registered there. For domestic cars, the maximum weight is usually limited to 50-60 kilograms. With foreign cars, the situation is not much better - in them the permitted weight on the roof is up to 70-80 kilograms. Theoretically, the car can be loaded even more, but this significantly increases the risk of getting into an accident or damaging the vehicle body.

A number of requirements apply to the load itself on the roof. In particular, it should not restrict visibility, make it difficult to drive a car, or affect the stability of the latter. If the cargo is a source of dust, noise or environmental pollution, then it is prohibited to transport it. In a situation where the load on the roof blocks the view through the rear window, then the installation of an additional rear-view mirror is mandatory.

Pay special attention to the dimensions of objects - they should not protrude more than 40 cm from the side (counted from the parking lights) and 1 meter behind the edge of the bumper. When transporting during the day, the cargo should be marked with a special sign (a 40x40 cm shield with diagonal red and white stripes), and at night - with a lantern and a reflective element (in front - white, and behind - red).

What and how to transport?

  • The refrigerator does not fit in a regular trunk or passenger compartment, so you have to use the roof of the car. There is no desire to hire special transport because of one piece of equipment, and it is expensive. What to do when you need to take an old refrigerator to the country house or a new one for repairs? If the weight of the unit is about 50 kilograms, then transportation on the roof is quite real. The main thing is not to exceed the speed limit (the permissible limit is 50 km / h) and be careful when cornering.
  • The bathtub is another frequent "victim" of transportation. And the worst thing is when you have to load a Soviet iron product. The weight of such a structure can exceed 100-120 kilograms, so its transportation can result not only in the repair of the car roof, but also in a major accident. If we are talking about lighter versions of products that do not exceed the permissible weight (for example, an acrylic bathtub), then transportation is quite real.
  • Metal pipes may be needed to perform minor repairs. There are other situations when products need to be transported from one point to another. Whatever the purpose, you must determine the mass of the pipes. Doing it "by eye" is a very difficult task. But there are general principles that can help. On average, a meter of pipe with a diameter of 76 mm and a wall thickness of 3-3.5 mm will weigh about six to seven kilograms. During fastening, consider the negative property of the pipes - they slide strongly over the trunk (especially metal). Hence, having rubber pads is one of the best ways to prevent slipping. For these purposes, you can use small pieces of rubber - they are inserted betweentrunk and pipe.
  • The bike can be transported on the roof of the car, but this requires special fastenings and clamps (the “on the side” option will not work here). By the way, today there are fasteners that allow you to transport a two-wheeled friend on the tailgate or even the rear bumper (spare wheel).
  • Plywood (sheets of chipboard, OSB, and so on) must be loaded and fastened very carefully. The driving speed must not exceed 50 km/h. Otherwise, windage may occur, which contributes to the lifting of the front of the car and loss of control. In addition, there is no guarantee that the upper trunk of the car will be able to withstand the additional load. It is desirable to fasten such a load with high-quality ropes (rubber is not suitable as a material). But that's not all. It is advisable to fasten the sheets together with clamps. At the same time, from time to time it is worth stopping the car and periodically checking the quality of fastening the load to the trunk. It is better to turn off the music during transportation in order to be aware of the entire traffic situation.
  • Furniture. If you need to transport something very bulky, for example, a large closet, then it is advisable to disassemble it. In this case, the dimensions will be smaller, and it will be more convenient to mount. The same requirement applies to a number of other pieces of furniture, for example, the same sofa.

Preparation for transportation and fastening features

Before you hit the road, securely fix all things on the trunk. If you need to transport boxes or other containers, seal them with adhesive tape. A similar requirement applies to the doors of drawers and cabinets on furniture (if they are transported assembled). All glass structural elements should be removed and packaged separately using a special “bubble” film or bulk cardboard. All possible transformations of furniture during the movement of vehicles should be excluded (this is especially true for sofas). If you are transporting rolls of linoleum or carpets, then it is advisable to securely fasten them with adhesive tape.

Placement of cargo on the roof must be uniform. Otherwise, the displaced center of gravity can play a cruel joke in the form of loss of control when cornering. Cargo fastening can be carried out with the help of special harnesses on hooks (with the exception of the cases that we have discussed above). Today on sale you can find many different tapes for fastening with special winches and locks. In extreme cases, you can use the ropes, but you need to fasten them as carefully as possible, avoiding touching the car body.

Recent weather anomalies with squally winds and flying canopies reminded us that any flimsy structures will sooner or later reveal their unreliability. This fully applies to the luggage carriers on the roofs of cars, by which you can unmistakably guess summer residents on the road.

It's easy. But making sure that the luggage reaches its destination without flying off along the road is more difficult. The so-called "spiders" are called to help - elastic cords with hooks, reminiscent of elements of a gymnastic expander. Which one to choose?

Recall the well-known horror story about grandmothers using trolley bags. The mentioned cords, designed to securely fasten the bag to the trolley, have a vile habit of arbitrarily unfastening, trying to hit the most vulnerable places with a metal hook. That is why we decided to check how good the sealing of the ends of the products we purchased is, whether they are able to spontaneously unbend and whether the relative elongation of the elastic cords is large.

For examination, we purchased a dozen of the same type of products. Only the net for the trunk looks like a black sheep, which they also decided to test. As usual, we remind you that the results of our test refer to a specific sample and do not claim to be a general assessment of the quality of a product of a particular brand.

Test program and methodology

  • Cord elongation

The parameter shows whether the elastic cord turns into a kind of aircraft modeling gum. In other words, whether the cargo fixed by him will “walk” around the trunk. To check, we fix one end of the cord, and apply a linearly increasing force to the second until the cord stops lengthening. The dimensions of the cord in the initial state and in the stretched state are measured with a calibrated metal ruler. Relative elongation is defined as a percentage as the ratio of the length increment to the original size.

The parameter indicates the maximum load capacity of the "spider". We securely fasten one end of the cord on a fixed frame, and apply a linearly increasing force to the other through the tip, controlled by a calibrated dynamometer. We determine the magnitude of the load at which the performance of the cord was somehow disturbed - the hook was deformed or torn off, the cord burst. Since there are no standards for such products, we decided to simply identify the “champion”.

  • Ergonomics assessment

Visual assessment of the injury risk of hooks and the quality of their termination.

Who has the stronger bond?

The Russian Zubr had no equal. Good packaging, complete information about the product (only for this cord the breaking load is indicated), an unusual ideology of "cut it as much as necessary", absolutely the best results in breaking tests. Perhaps, only the elasticity of the cord is excessive, but against the background of the pluses, you don’t want to cling to this. The price also seemed reasonable to us.

We wish you all a successful journey and the safety of your luggage!

Rubber fastening cord with adjustable hooks

approximate price 370 rub.

The "trick" is that fasteners of the desired length can be made independently. The total length of the cord is 10 meters, there are eight quick-release hooks. The declared breaking load of the product is up to 24 kg, but we were able to damage it by breaking the hook only at 60 kg! At the same time, the cord itself survived. Relative elongation - 110%. Too much. But overall, this is the best product in the sample.

Set of luggage straps with hooks at the ends

approximate price 600 rub.

A set of six cords of different lengths (2 × 60/80/100 cm) is one of the most expensive in our selection. With a load of 30 kg, the hooks begin to unbend, threatening to break loose. Relative elongation - 60%. Expensive and not very reliable.

Luggage elastic bands "Spider"

approximate price 200 rub.

Includes four cords of 80 cm each. The hook unbent with a load of 44 kg - a good result. But the cord was noticeably damaged at the maximum load: it could not restore its original shape. Relative elongation - 100%. Given the affordable price - not bad.

Luggage belt

approximate price 125 rub.

Four cords of 60 cm each. They practically do not stretch: relative elongation - 25%. The hook breaks off with a load of only 10 kg. Not good.

Luggage belt

approximate price 170 rub.

Comes with two cords of 60 cm each. The relative elongation is small - 60%. But the seal is disgusting: the hook jumped out of it with a load of only 12 kg. Badly.

Load securing straps

approximate price 260 rub.

There are three pairs of elastic bands in the German set - 60, 80, 100 cm each. They stretch strongly: relative elongation - 110%. The hook unbends with a load of 32 kg: average result. The tourniquet has almost no residual deformations. Overall, not bad.

Elastic band luggage

approximate price 60 rub.

For this money, only one cord 80 cm long is required. Its hook gave way with a load of 24 kg - too early. Relative elongation - 105%: the cord stretches quite strongly. Not good. 80 rub.

A lone cord 120 cm long with carabiners instead of the usual hooks attracted attention with atypical fasteners. But already with a force of 14 kg, the aluminum carbine was first deformed, losing its functionality, and then it completely came off. Relative elongation - 100%. This cord looks much better than it works.

Net for trunk

approximate price 770 rub.

Not single cords, but a net measuring 130×180 cm. The most expensive product in our expertise. But the mesh does not withstand even minor efforts: the hook closure breaks at a load of only 10 kg. The threads also stretch strongly: the relative elongation of each is 110%. The product does not inspire confidence.

The summer season is one of the most active times of the year, when motorists use the roof of the car as an additional place for transporting goods. Bring furniture, building materials or any other necessary things to the dacha. But what do traffic rules say about the transportation of goods? How to transport the necessary things on the roof and not run into a fine? We tell below.

Dimensions

First of all, before loading the roof of your car, you need to accurately measure the dimensions of the load and the trunk itself. With Thule products, in principle, everything is simple - just use ours, and the system will automatically select the ideal length of the transverse arcs, so that they do not protrude beyond the roof. At most, they can protrude beyond the roof rails or regular places, but not more than 3-5 cm.

But with the load you need to be more careful. According to Article 12.21 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, the cargo must not:

  • protrude from the front and sides of the car,
  • obstruct the view
  • violate the center of gravity and stability of the machine (that is, the load must be secured as securely as possible),
  • block lighting devices and identification marks (even with your hands),
  • pollute the environment, dust and leave marks on the road surface.
23.4. Cargo protruding beyond the dimensions of the vehicle in front or behind by more than 1 m or to the side by more than 0.4 m from the outer edge of the marker light must be marked with identification signs "Oversized cargo", and in the dark and in conditions of insufficient visibility , in addition, in front with a white lamp or retroreflector, at the back - with a red lamp or retroreflector.

Below we offer you to watch a video where this rule is definitely violated.

In order to avoid a fine, if it suddenly becomes necessary to go beyond the prescribed limits, it is mandatory to hang a special sign “oversized cargo” or mark the cargo with a red cloth.

If an object protrudes beyond the dimensions of the vehicle by more than one meter in front or behind, or by more than 0.4 meters on the sides, then it must be marked with a special plate - “Oversized cargo”. If there is no such plate with you, then it is enough to tie a piece of red fabric. At night, at the same time, reflectors are hung in front, reflective lights in white, and red in the back.

These rules also work under other conditions. So, for example, if the car, together with the installed load, does not exceed a height of 4 m from the surface of the road surface and no more than 2 m at the rear, then the sign "oversized cargo" and other identification marks will not be required. If the dimensions exceed the specified values, then a special permit from the traffic police will be required.

23.5. Transportation of heavy and dangerous goods, the movement of a vehicle, the overall parameters of which, with or without cargo, exceed 2.55 m in width (2.6 m - for refrigerators and isothermal bodies), 4 m in height from the surface of the carriageway, in length ( including one trailer) 20 m, or the movement of a vehicle with a load protruding beyond the rear point of the vehicle's clearance by more than 2 m, as well as the movement of road trains with two or more trailers, is carried out in accordance with special rules. International road transport is carried out in accordance with the requirements for vehicles and transportation rules established by international treaties of the Russian Federation.

Weight

When transporting goods on the roof of a car, you need to remember not only the rules of the road, but also the capabilities of the car itself. So, the first thing you should know about before loading the cabinet on the trunk is the load capacity of the roof and in general of your car.

Basically, the standard load capacity of the roofs of most modern cars varies within 100 kg, but depending on the model, this value can be slightly changed, both up and down. As a rule, for domestic cars, the load capacity is set in the range from 40 to 70 kg, and for foreign cars in the range from 60 to 90 kg. In any case, we do not advise you to take more than 60 kg of cargo with you, since in addition to the weight of the cargo itself, the roof rack itself gives an additional load on the roof. Of course, on the forums you can often meet "all-knowing" motorists who "carried half a ton with them and everything was gorgeous, the car is like new." But exceeding the permissible norms when transporting cargo on the roof leads to the cancellation of the guarantee for the trunk, roof, and most importantly, it affects safety during transportation.

Also, in addition to the load capacity of the roof, be sure to find out the load capacity of your car as a whole. After all, in addition to luggage on the roof, you somehow carry things with you in the main trunk, plus even your weight will be taken into account, not to mention the passengers. There are also instructions in the SDA on this subject:

"Permitted maximum weight" - the weight of the equipped vehicle with cargo, driver and passengers, established by the manufacturer as the maximum allowable. For the permitted maximum mass of the composition of vehicles, that is, coupled and moving as a whole, the sum of the permitted maximum masses of the vehicles included in the composition is taken.

You can find out the RMM of your particular car in the PTS - there is a specially designated line with the indicated mass of the car and a line with the maximum load. RMM also regulates the category of a car: RMM up to 3.5 tons is a passenger car, and more than 3.5 tons is a truck.

Is it possible to exceed the permitted maximum weight? We do not recommend. After all, it is not for nothing that car manufacturers set weight standards. Car parts are simply not designed for more weight, because if you load the car in excess of the norm, a dangerous situation may arise right while driving - car parts may not withstand the load, and a breakdown will occur right on the way. In this way, you endanger not only yourself, but also other road users.

Speed mode

In addition to complying with the rules regarding the dimensions of the car and the cargo being transported, as well as the rules of cargo transportation, it is imperative to observe the speed limit. We are talking about this for a reason, because when you load luggage on the roof of the car, some of the handling characteristics of your car change.

In the SDA there are no specific definitions of the speed limit with a load on the roof. But through our research, we came to the conclusion that the optimal speed with luggage on the roof of the car is:

  • Maximum 100 km/h;
  • When entering corners, the speed must be reduced to 20 km / h

We are not just talking about this. When transporting cargo on the roof, many drivers forget about effects such as windage and vehicle grip. If you ride with luggage on the roof, keep in mind that wind resistance will increase and aerodynamics will deteriorate. But in order not to be unfounded, we offer to see how it looks in real life.

As you can see, even the speed at which the car was traveling was low, but, nevertheless, the sheets flew off in no time. That is why it is really important to securely secure the cargo before the trip. We advise you to use the special belts Thule 323. Also, in addition to the speed limit, do not forget about the braking distance. And again, we will not breed demagogy and suggest watching a video in which everything is clear without words.

A couple of tips:

  • For a short trip with a load on the roof, it is advisable to check the integrity of all luggage carrier fasteners upon arrival;
  • For long trips, it is advisable to check the integrity of the fasteners and the tension of the fastening belts every couple of hours;
  • If the road surface wants to leave the best, then the fastenings in a good way need to be checked even more often - about once an hour;
  • If you are transporting furniture with opening elements (doors, drawers, etc.) on the roof, it is advisable to fix these elements with adhesive tape or wrap the cargo with stretch film;
  • The load should be evenly distributed over the roof surface, and its center of gravity should be as low as possible;

Well, we have almost reached the end, it remains to talk about the most interesting thing - about what kind of fines threaten for violating the above traffic rules.

According to Article 12.21 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation:

Violation of the rules for the carriage of goods, as well as the rules for towing - entails a warning or the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of 500 rubles.

This amount of the fine is relevant for non-oversized cargo. For baggage that requires special marking or special permission, slightly different rules apply, in accordance with Article 12.21.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation:

  • if the dimensions are exceeded by no more than 10 cm (without a issued permit available) - 1000-1500 rubles (individuals) (part 1);
  • if the size is exceeded by 10-20 cm (without a issued permit available) - 3000-4000 rubles (individuals) (part 2);
  • if the dimensions are exceeded by 20-50 cm (without a issued permit available) - 5000-10000 rubles (individuals) (part 3);
  • when exceeding the size of more than 50 cm (without a issued permit available or with it) - 7000-10000 rubles (individuals) or deprivation from 4 to 6 months (part 6).

As such, there are no fines for exceeding the speed limit indicated above, the main thing is to observe the general speed limit on the road, focusing on the signs. It is also worth remembering the weight category of your car and observing these limits, based on road signs.
