Choosing antifreeze: is it better red or green? Antifreeze for frets priors What kind of antifreeze is poured into the prior from the factory.

The coolant (antifreeze), designed to lower the temperature of the engine heating up during operation, needs to be replaced, like any other operating fluid. In the Lada Priora car, the AvtoVAZ plant indicates the need to replace antifreeze every 75,000 journeys or every five years (whichever happens sooner).

The coolant should be replaced in a timely manner - otherwise you risk the fact that the additives added to the antifreeze can work out and fall out as deposits that settle on the metal elements of the engine and the cooling path. They are aggressive in relation to the above parts, accelerating their wear. In addition, in this case, it is likely to encounter overheating of the coolant, which entails a loss of power, increased fuel consumption and a reduction in engine life by 2-3 times. This is due to the formation of corrosion on the internal surfaces of the engine, the narrowing of the radiator channels (and, therefore, a decrease in the coolant circulation rate). And the continuous operation of the engine in overheating mode leads to deformation of the oil scraper rings of the cylinders, which entails the mixing of exhaust gases and oil.

In addition, cavitation erosion (bubbles in the coolant) and the formation of a silicate precipitate are possible. In winter, a worn-out cooling system can contribute to the formation of cracks in the expansion tank.

As you can see, untimely replacement of antifreeze leads to serious wear of both the entire cooling system and engine elements.
Therefore, you should periodically monitor the coolant level and check it. If you unscrew the reservoir cap and see that the antifreeze has faded, lost color or become cloudy brownish, you should replace it as soon as possible.

For the replacement of antifreeze, a more or less decent auto repair shop will charge you at least 800 rubles. (at the official dealer prices are even more expensive). Not all services are involved in cleaning the cooling system; on average, the cost of this procedure ranges from 1300 to 2500 rubles. You can save a lot of money by doing the replacement and cleaning yourself. It will not require super efforts, besides, you will gain good experience.

Also, do not forget to purchase a new antifreeze canister (about 1200 rubles for a 5-liter canister) and an expansion tank cap (its price is around 100 rubles).

Of the fixtures and materials you will need:

  • Actually, antifreeze (8 liters)
  • Screwdriver (preferably Phillips)
  • Wide funnel attached to a hose
  • Distilled water (15 liters)
  • Bottle cleaner
  • Key with a diameter of 13 mm.
  • Citric acid or similar cleanser (2 sachets)
  • Expansion tank cap
  • A bucket or other container (volume of at least 8 liters), preferably 2 pcs.

We collect everything you need nearby so that it is at hand:

After that, it is necessary to remove the engine crankcase protection. Without performing this procedure, it is possible to remove the spent coolant from the radiator cavity, but not from the BC.

First, we substitute a container for old antifreeze under the drain hole.

Important: you do not need to unscrew the cap of the expansion tank, otherwise the antifreeze will violently begin to pour out on the sides.

We unscrew the bolt-plug of the drain hole on the BC, drain the waste liquid into a container:

If, after unscrewing the drain cap, the antifreeze does not pour, then a plug of dirt has formed near the drain hole, which can simply be loosened with a screwdriver.

After that, it is necessary to unscrew the cap of the expansion tank (this is necessary to equalize the pressure).
Then you need to drain the antifreeze from the radiator. In order not to accidentally hit the generator, you can wrap it in a plastic bag or wrap it with a rag.

We find the valve, which is located at the bottom of the radiator, on the right, in front of the radiator. We substitute an empty container under this valve.

The valve must be unscrewed carefully, as the pressure of the coolant can be strong:

The more antifreeze pours out, the more the valve should be unscrewed. Attention: there is a rubber seal on the valve, it is important not to lose it.

As soon as the antifreeze stops flowing from both drain holes, you will need to screw in the drain plug on the cylinder block and tighten the radiator valve.

It is necessary to pay attention to the color of the waste liquid. If it is not very cloudy, the cooling system can be cleaned with distilled water only. If there are various floating substances in the coolant, etc., you will need to pour citric acid (1 sachet) into distilled water.

Before proceeding with the cleaning of the cooling system, it will be necessary to remove the air plugs in the circuit.

To do this, you will need to remove the hose from the heating fitting of the throttle assembly:

Only then can water diluted with acid be poured into the removed pipe using a pre-prepared hose with a funnel. As soon as water begins to flow from the removed pipe, you should stop pouring coolant. We do not close the cover of the expansion tank yet.

Then you will need to insert the hose onto the fitting and start the engine (with the expansion tank open - this is required for better cleaning of the circuit from air locks). Wait 5-10 minutes, then turn off the engine.
After that, you will need to drain the water according to the method described above.

If the used cleaning fluid does not contain suspended matter or other substances, you can start cleaning the expansion tank. If any sediment or impurities are clearly visible in the liquid, we repeat the cleaning procedure with distilled water and acid again.

Don't forget to put the drain plug back in place:

Antifreeze is replaced in Lada Priora cars every 75,000 km, or after 5 years of operation. It all depends on which limit comes faster. The second replacement is required after 40,000 km, or after two years. During maintenance, keep an eye on the color of the coolant. If it has changed its shade to reddish, replace the antifreeze, because this indicates a deterioration in the quality of additives and coolant characteristics.

What antifreeze is better to pour into Priora

The cooling system of the car requires 7.84 liters of antifreeze, which is worth considering before replacing. For all VAZ car engines, including Lada Priora, the following antifreezes are recommended:

  • TC Felix.
  • Cool Stream Standard or Premium.
  • G-Energy Antefreeze.
  • Syntec.
  • Antifreeze G-48 and others.

Replacement process

To change antifreeze on a VAZ 2170 car, prepare the necessary tool - a Phillips screwdriver, the required amount of coolant (buy one 10 liter canister or two 5 liter canisters), a thirteen key, an empty container for draining the old fluid, as well as clean rags.

Drain antifreeze

Before draining antifreeze from the system, put the car on a lift or inspection hole. Then proceed like this:

  1. Open expansion tank.
  2. Remove the mudguard from the motor. If there is no desire to remove protection, this can not be done. But in such a situation, it is worth taking a number of actions to avoid drips. If nothing is done, then, in the process of draining, the liquid will hit the crankcase protection and splash around.
  3. Place an empty container under the engine in a place where the old antifreeze will approximately drain.
  4. Open the drain hole on the cylinder block. As soon as the coolant drain is completed, wipe the marks that appear from the surface of the engine.
  5. Place a container under the radiator, after which, open the drain hole (at the bottom of the radiator).
  6. Wait until the coolant is completely out of the system.

Remember that the working fluid of the cooling system is extremely toxic. Before draining the antifreeze, prepare a special funnel and use it when draining the coolant from the crankcase and radiator. You can make such a funnel yourself by cutting off the wide part of the plastic bottle.

In the process of dismantling the plug from the drain hole, be careful. It has a rubber ring that needs to be saved. If it is damaged (defects or tears), replace the part.

Pouring new antifreeze

The next step in replacing antifreeze is filling the Lada Priora cooling system. Proceed like this:

  • Screw the plug into the radiator and cylinder block.
  • Loosen the compression of the clamp, then discard the tube to drain the coolant from the throttle heating fitting. This is required so that, in the process of filling the system, extraneous air is gradually removed from it. If this work is not done, then there is a high risk of air locks, due to which the system itself will not be completely filled.
  • Pour the coolant into the tank until the antifreeze runs out of the tube discarded from the throttle assembly. Once this has happened, put the hose back in place and install the mounting clamp.
  • During the filling process, observe the amount of coolant in the system. As soon as the working composition reaches the MAX mark (marked on the wall of the expansion tank), stop filling.

Please note that, after starting the engine, the antifreeze in the system must give out excess air, due to which the level of the working fluid will drop. On this, the replacement of antifreeze is almost complete. Screw the cap on the expansion tank tightly. This is important because the coolant is under pressure in the system. If you tighten the cap with a little force, a leak may occur.

Now start the engine. Let it warm up to operating temperature until the fan mounted on the heatsink is activated. As soon as this happens, turn off the engine and check the coolant level again. If necessary, top it up to the required level.

How to remove air from the system

If, after replacing the antifreeze, you notice that the Lada Priora cooling system is malfunctioning, an air lock may be the cause. You can remove it in two ways.

  • Option number 1. To remove air from the system, loosen the clamp and discard the heating pipe from the throttle assembly. Now unscrew the tank cap, cover it with a clean rag and blow into the neck until antifreeze comes out of the discarded tube. As soon as this happens, install the pipe in its original place and tighten the clamp, with the required force.
  • Option number 2. If the option discussed above did not work, go the other way. Start the engine and let it run to increase the pressure in the cooling system. Now turn off the engine and, without removing the cap from the coolant reservoir, discard the pipe from the throttle heater. Follow the pipe. As soon as antifreeze starts to come out of it, put the pipe back in place and tighten the hose with a clamp.

When performing the above work, be careful, because the antifreeze in the system can be very hot. To avoid air locks in the system, in the process of replacing the coolant on the Lada Priora, from time to time, press on the radiator hoses.

If, after replacing the antifreeze, the coolant level is constantly decreasing, check the condition of the pipes and the cooling system hose, the quality of their connections, as well as the integrity of the most important components, such as the radiator, tank housing and thermostat.

After 5-7 days, check its condition. If the antifreeze has changed color and turned brown, then this indicates that a fake has been poured into the system, without corrosion inhibitors. High quality coolant, over time, will only darken a little. If a fake fluid is found in the cooling system, replace it.

Above, we discussed how to drain antifreeze, fill in new coolant and remove plugs from the cooling system in Lada Priora cars. The presence of such knowledge allows you to independently replace the working fluid and save money on visiting service stations.

Replacing antifreeze on Priore takes place in several stages:

  1. Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system (COD).
  2. Fill in new coolant.
  3. If necessary, bleed air from the engine cooling system.

How to drain antifreeze on a VAZ 2170

Will be required: wrench "13", Phillips screwdriver and a clean rag.

Install the car on a viewing hole or lift. Make sure the engine is cold and there is no excess pressure in the engine cooling system. Procedure:

  1. Turn away a stopper of a broad tank. For convenience, it is recommended to remove the engine protection.
  2. Place a bucket under the engine and drain the coolant by removing the drain plug on the cylinder block.
  3. Place a bucket under the radiator and drain the coolant by removing the drain plug on the radiator.

We twist the plugs after all the coolant has run out of the cooling system.

How to properly fill coolant into the Priora engine cooling system

Procedure:
  1. So that after filling the cooling system with liquid, air plugs do not form in it, you need to loosen the clamp and disconnect the hose from the heating fitting of the throttle assembly.
  2. Then we fill the engine cooling system (fluids recommended by the manufacturer), pouring coolant into the expansion tank until it starts to flow out of the hose disconnected from the throttle assembly. At this point, install the hose in place and tighten the hose clamp.
  3. Add coolant to the correct level.

How to remove the air lock on the Lada Priora

If after replacing the antifreeze, the engine cooling system does not work correctly, then an air lock may be the cause. The throttle assembly is the highest point in the cooling system, so we will expel air from the SOD through it.

Method number 1:

  1. Loosen the clamp and remove the tube from the heating of the throttle assembly.
  2. Open the cap of the expansion tank, and blow into the neck of the tank, after covering it with a clean rag.
  3. When antifreeze runs out of the removed tube, quickly put the tube on the fitting and tighten the clamp.
Coolant is a poisonous substance, so those who do not want to blow into the expansion tank may do otherwise.
Method number 2:
  1. Warm up the engine a little to pressurize the cooling system, and then shut it off.
  2. Without unscrewing the plugs of the expansion tank, remove the tube from the heating of the throttle assembly.
  3. As soon as antifreeze comes out of the tube under pressure, quickly put the tube on the fitting and tighten the clamp.
When using the second method, you should also be careful, because the antifreeze can be very hot.

If the liquid level in the expansion tank is constantly decreasing, then there is most likely a leak in the cooling system. In this case, it is necessary to check the tightness of the cooling system and eliminate the malfunction (see "

The use of high-quality coolant in the car allows owners to get rid of the problem of engine overheating. Thanks to the coolant, heat from the engine is transferred to the environment and to the interior of the car. In what cases is it necessary to replace antifreeze on Priore and how to perform such a task on your own, we will describe below.

Terms of coolant replacement

In VAZ Priora cars with a 16-valve engine of 2011 and other years of production, the frequency of changing antifreeze is 75 thousand kilometers. Then the working fluid begins to lose its properties. In addition, the refrigerant that is poured during production is changed every five years, if during this time the car has not traveled 75 thousand km. But this applies to the initial replacement of the fluid that is poured from the factory. If you use regular Tosol, then its service life is less and is about 30-40 thousand kilometers.

The need to change the working fluid can be determined by the following "symptoms":

  • antifreeze became more dirty, black, traces of deposits appeared in it;
  • a refrigerant leak has occurred, as a result of which more liquid will need to be added to the system, and if you do not know which antifreeze was filled in, then it will have to be changed;
  • the presence of deposits and dirt in the expansion tank, this indicates that the substance has lost its properties;
  • formation of foam in the tank under the hood;
  • the stove began to work worse in the winter season;
  • the engine started to boil.

Coolant selection

The manufacturer decided that it is best to cool the power unit with Felix-40 red antifreeze. Cool Stream Standard 40 refrigerant can also be used. You can find out more about what is filled in your car by looking at the sticker on the expansion tank in the engine compartment.

In accordance with official guidelines, any brand of liquid is allowed. The main thing is that you need to pour those refrigerants that meet the standards of antifreezes that are poured during production.

Level control and how many liters needed

To understand how many liters of refrigerant you need to fill in Priora 16 valves, refer to the car's operating instructions. The technical manual states that the volume of the cooling system is 7.8 liters. Therefore, just such an amount of refrigerant is poured into it.

The Prio Dvenar channel released a video in which it showed how the coolant replacement procedure is performed in Prior.

Fluid level checks must be performed on a cold engine. Open the hood and find the expansion tank with antifreeze. You will see two marks on the tank - MIN and MAX, the volume of liquid should be normal between them. If there are no marks on the tank, then it has a horizontal edge that shows the normalized level of antifreeze. In order for the system to effectively cool the power unit, it is impossible to pour less refrigerant into it than the prescribed norm.

How to change?

Next, we will analyze how to properly replace the working fluid of the cooling system in a Lada Priora car with an electronic pedal or with air conditioning. You can change the refrigerant at the service station, but this task is quite simple and everyone can handle it on their own. For the best effect, it is necessary, we will discuss this below.

Preparation

Before starting the process, prepare the following:

  • fresh refrigerant in the required volume;
  • seal for the drain cover, if the old one is worn out;
  • set of wrenches;
  • clean rag;
  • container for collecting used antifreeze.

The Lada Priora Repair and Maintenance channel provided a video demonstrating the procedure for draining the working fluid from the cooling system.

Step-by-step instruction

How to replace antifreeze on Priore:

  1. Drive the car into a garage with a pit, you will need a flat surface to complete the work. Wait until the engine cools down, the whole process is done on a cold one.
  2. The cooling system must not be under high pressure. To reset it, open the hood and unscrew the expansion tank cap. If the engine is hot, coolant may squirt out of the hole, so use a rag to open it.
  3. Dismantle the plastic protection of the power unit. To remove, you need to unscrew the two fasteners on the sides. It is not necessary to dismantle the latches, but their removal will make the task more convenient.
  4. If your car is equipped with a transmission with control cables, then you need to dismantle the starter device. To do this, disconnect the negative terminal from the car battery. Press on the wiring connector and disconnect the plug from the traction relay output. Remove the protective cap from the nut that fixes the tip of the wire connected to the positive battery terminal. Using a 13 wrench, unscrew the nut and remove the cable lug from the contact screw on the traction relay. Then unscrew the screws with the same tool and dismantle the starter device. If the transmission of the car is controlled by traction, then there is no need to dismantle the starter.
  5. Locate the drain plug, it is located directly on the cylinder block. Under it, you need to substitute an old bucket or basin into which the spent refrigerant will merge. Unscrew the cap and wait for the fluid to exit the system. Also unscrew the safety valve under the radiator device, part of the substance will also flow out of it. When the drain is completed, both plugs must be tightened. Do not forget to evaluate the condition of the seal on the drain cap. If it is worn out or there are traces of defects, then the ring must be replaced.
  6. Assess the condition of the coolant drained from the cooling system. If it contains traces of deposits, wear products, or the liquid as a whole is very cloudy and viscous, it is recommended to flush all components. To do this, pour about 7.8 liters of distilled water into the system through the expansion tank. Vinegar or citric acid can be added to it to remove contaminants. Use of special washing means is allowed. After filling the engine starts, you can perform a test drive. Then the procedure for draining the refrigerant from the power unit is repeated. If the liquid is still dirty, then washing is repeated until it is clear at the outlet.
  7. Assess the condition of all pipes and lines of the cooling system. In the presence of damage or traces of smudges, the hoses must be replaced.
  8. The next step is to fill the new refrigerant into the system. In order to prevent the appearance of an air lock in the lines and eliminate the air entering the system, it is recommended to slightly loosen the clamp of the pipe connected to the throttle assembly. The hose is then disconnected.
  9. Through the filler neck in the expansion tank, the cooling system is filled with fresh antifreeze. New refrigerant is poured in until it comes out of the branch pipe disconnected from the throttle. When this happens, the line is connected in place, and the clamp is tightened securely. Then the refrigerant is added to the system to the norm.
  10. All previously dismantled components are assembled in reverse order.
  11. The engine starts, the trip is performed. Now you need to make sure once again that the fluid level is correct. Make sure there is no leakage from the drain hole.

Remove the cap on the expansion tank Unscrew the drain valve on the engine cooling radiator Remove the starter from the car by disconnecting all fasteners

Consequences of late replacement

Over time, the refrigerant loses its original characteristics, as a result of which it will not be able to effectively cool the power unit.

If the antifreeze is not changed on time, this is fraught with serious problems:

  1. The motor will heat up faster, and regular operation of the machine with an overheated engine can lead to its complete failure.
  2. There will be a freezing of the working fluid in the cooling system and the impossibility of starting the internal combustion engine in the cold season.
  3. Line pressure may increase. Because of this, seals and seals will be squeezed out, resulting in a refrigerant leak.

Issue price

The cost of one liter of Felix antifreeze today is about 150 rubles. Approximately the same price and coolstream refrigerant. For a complete replacement, eight liters will be required, respectively, the price of the issue of changing the coolant is about 900 rubles. If you are flushing, additional distilled water must be purchased.

The cooling system is filled year-round with a mixture of water and antifreeze with an anti-corrosion additive from the VW / SEAT concern. This mixture prevents freezing and corrosion of the cooling system, the deposition of salts and, in addition, increases the boiling point of the coolant. In the circulation circuit, as a result of the expansion of the liquid during heating, an increased pressure is created, which also contributes to an increase in the boiling point of the coolant. The pressure is limited by a valve located in the cover of the expansion tank, which opens at a pressure of 1.4 - 1.6 bar. The engine cooling system requires a high boiling point for the coolant to function properly. If the evaporating temperature is too low, vapor locks can form, which impairs engine cooling. Therefore, the cooling system must be filled with a mixture of water and antifreeze all year round.

You must use G12 Plus antifreeze (purple, exact designation G 012 A8F) or another concentrate marked “according to VW / SEAT-TL-VW-774-F”, for example, Glysantin-Alu-Protect-Premium / G30.

If the cooling system is filled with a mixture containing antifreeze G12 (red, exact designation G 012 A8D), you can also use red G12 antifreeze or another concentrate marked “according to VW/ AUDI-TL-VW-” to replenish the coolant level. 774-D", e.g. Glysantin-Alu-Protect/G30. Note: G12 purple can be mixed with G12 red.

Caution: Do not mix red G12 antifreeze with older green G11 antifreeze as this can cause severe engine damage. The brown coolant (the result of mixing antifreeze G12 and G11) should be replaced immediately.

Note: If a liquid with an incorrect specification of antifreeze is accidentally found in the cooling system, the system must be flushed. To do this, all liquid from the cooling system must be completely drained and the system filled with clean water. Let the engine run for two minutes at idle. Drain the water again and blow out the system from the side of the expansion tank with compressed air to completely empty it. Replace the drain plug and fill the cooling system with a mixture of water and G12-Plus antifreeze.

Attention: To replenish the cooling system (also in the warm season] only use a mixture of G12-Plus (purple) with soft clean water. The proportion of antifreeze should not be lower than 40% even in summer. Therefore, when replenishing the cooling system antifreeze should always be added with water.

In our latitudes, the coolant should provide protection against freezing down to -25 ° C, and even better - up to -35 ° C. The proportion of antifreeze must not exceed 60% (antifreeze protection of the coolant down to -40°C), otherwise the antifreeze protection and cooling effect of the liquid will be reduced. Note: Depending on the equipment of the vehicle, the amount of coolant to be filled in may differ slightly from the values indicated in the table.
