Learning to change the alternator belt on South Korean Kia cars. Kia Spectra

Hello. We will replace the alternator belt with a Kia Rio 3, and also simplify the belt tension system.

First, I’ll talk about simplifying the belt tension. The manufacturer has installed a tensioner that has a small resource (two, three belt replacements). The price of such a tensioner is about 8 thousand rubles. On other Korean cars, for example, the Hyundai Elantra, there is no such an expensive tensioner, everything is done there to manually adjust the tension. The generator on the Elantra is fixed with a bracket on which the adjustment is implemented.

It turned out that this bracket is ideal for mounting on Rio 3. This means that you can convert it to a simple tension adjustment system, and get rid of expensive spare parts. For conversion, you need to buy a bracket with a bolt.

After the conversion, you will only change the belts during vehicle maintenance. There is nothing to wear out in the adjustment itself, it will last the entire life of the car.

Tools: knob, heads for twelve and fourteen.

Belt part number: 6pk2080.

Step-by-step instruction

1. Turn off the three bolts of the old bracket.

2. We install and fix a new bracket with an adjustment bolt.

3. We release the lower bolt of the generator so that it moves.

4. We put on the belt, make sure that it lies flat and without distortions.

5. Rotate the main adjustment bolt and tighten the belt. After stretching, we fix it with a bolt from the end.

Kia Spectra. The smell of antifreeze in the cabin ( main reasons)

The main reason for the smell in the cabin is the coolant leak from the expansion tank. As a rule, in older machines, wear and tear and improper operation, violation of technical recommendations, untimely replacement of spare parts leads to this.

And on modern, practically new, cars, this flaw can occur due to manufacturing defects or also due to incorrectly selected operating modes of the motor unit as a whole.

If pipes (or other components of the cooling system) are incorrectly replaced, a similar phenomenon can also occur, and this is not such a rarity.

And since the coolant has the properties of increased volatility and rapid weathering, not everyone, even an experienced driver, will be able to visually notice smudges and droplets. Then the characteristic smell of antifreeze penetrating into the cabin speaks of a leak through the elements of the system. It is much easier for the owner to visually detect a significant leak (the coolant leaves quite noticeable spots, and the antifreeze has to be constantly added). But then in the cabin it will no longer just be a light extraneous amber, but it will already smash with might and main.

Cooling system diagnostics

In both cases, it is imperative to conduct an appropriate diagnosis of all components. To do this, even if you do not have too much experience, you can do it yourself. In the end, if you can’t fix the problem, you can always contact a car service. And if everything goes as planned, then you will feel like a master, and save a certain amount of personal funds.

So, first of all, we open the hood and conduct a visual inspection, trying to understand the cause of the malfunctions. We check all pipes and conductors for mechanical damage (especially for cars with high mileage, where the elements may not have changed on time and have worn out noticeably). We are monitoring leaks. Well, if you're lucky, and you will immediately find a world crack or a poorly twisted supply, which can be instantly restored by replacement.

Leak in crankcase: Also a common cause of smell in the cabin, but on a larger scale, is the leakage of antifreeze into the crankcase of the unit. And this malfunction can seriously disrupt some of the functions of the motor, and in general lead, if not paid attention to, to serious consequences.

A leak is detected simply: inspect the cap of the oil tank. If it has an emulsion of a characteristic whitish color, it means that the coolant definitely enters the crankcase, and repair actions must be taken. If you saw such neoplasms under the car during parking, then the antifreeze also flows out.

heater radiator

When the coolant leak goes directly into the passenger compartment and a distinct smell appears again even after airing, this may indicate poor tightness of the heating radiator. If this spare part leaks, even if it is not visually noticeable, part of the antifreeze goes straight into the car interior. At the same time, the driver and passengers of the transport almost always clearly feel a sweet smell.

Timing is also one of the possible reasons.

The coolant can also be passed under the drive of the gas distribution mechanism itself. In this case, it is quite difficult to identify the ongoing leak. You can see the surfaces under the timing belt, there may be traces of moisture - coolant. As a rule, this indicates a malfunction of the pump.

What can cause problems and smell

You should not delay for a long time with the diagnosis and identification of the reasons why it smells of antifreeze in the interior of your car. If you can’t diagnose the problem yourself, you need to use the services of a proven master minder. We must constantly remember that the normal functioning of the cooling systems of the machine plays a very important role in the regular operation of the entire motor assembly.

If there is a smell in the cabin, this is an abnormal phenomenon, which can eventually lead to both overheating of the engine and leakage of antifreeze from the system. So, until the causes are discovered, monitor the temperature conditions of the motor and fluid levels.

8.2.6. Alternator Drive Belt Tension Adjustment

If, during inspection of the belt, tears, fraying, or delamination of rubber are found, replace the belt. It can break at the most inopportune moment.

If there are traces of grease on the belt, replace it. Before installing a new belt, be sure to wipe all the pulleys driven by the belt with a rag soaked in gasoline.

Warnings

Insufficient belt tension impairs battery recharging and leads to increased belt wear.

If the belt is too tight, the alternator bearings may fail.

When turning the crankshaft by the pulley mounting bolt, the gearshift lever must be in the neutral position.

PROCEDURE

1. Press your finger on the belt in the middle between the pulleys of the generator and the crankshaft. If the belt deflection differs from the nominal value, adjust its tension.

2. Loosen the nut securing the generator to the bracket and ...

3. ... nuts securing the generator to the tension bar.

many owners KIA Rio 2011-2016, on a cold car, they hear an unpleasant creaking from under the hood which disappears after a few minutes. In this article, we will analyze the causes of this sound and how to get rid of it.

What makes a creak (whistling) under the hood of KIA Rio

An example of a creak (crunch) from the tensioner roller bearing in the video.

ACCESSORIES BELT

The sound emitted by the drive belt will be more like a whistle, its appearance is primarily associated with wear or contamination of the belt. During operation, the belt gradually stretches by several millimeters, in addition, sand, dirt, and water get under it.

Checking the belt is not difficult, for this we need to pour water on it before starting the car. Next, we start the car and if the whistle is gone, then we change the belt. Accessory belt It is a consumable, so it cannot be replaced under warranty. However, you can replace it yourself, and buy the belt yourself in the store.

Drive belt part number — 252122B000. You can choose according to the characteristics - marking 6 PK 2137(six strand, length 2137 mm). The approximate cost of the original is 900 rubles.

Trying to clean an old belt or use a belt conditioner is not very effective. Do not try to clean it yourself, this is done with the engine running and there is a high probability of getting serious injury.

AUTOMATIC TENSIONER

The sound when the tensioner is worn is more like a bearing crunch and creak. The problem is the roller bearing. The creak appears on a cold engine in wet weather, when the car warms up, the sound gradually disappears. There are different repair options.

- If the car is under warranty, then feel free to go to the official dealer tensioner they should be replaced under warranty. Many will argue about dirt and condensate, while simply blowing air, this measure is temporary (if it helps, of course).

If, when replacing the tensioner in the official KIA service, you will be offered to change the belt and, even if it is in good condition, agree. Because replacing the belt separately from the tensioner will cost more than a new belt.

- If RIO is no longer under warranty, then stretching device you can change it yourself, if you have a flyover, you can replace it in 1-2 hours. Since it is automatic, you do not need to adjust the tension yourself, which greatly simplifies the task.

Number automatic tensioner by catalog - 252812B010(cost 5000 rubles).

- To save money, you can replace the bearing in the roller. Installed in the video bearing 6203 GMB closed type. The roller is steel, so you can safely press in a new bearing without damaging it. The issue price is about 200 rubles. However, in some cases, replacing the bearing may not help due to deformation of the tensioner housing or when the spring is too weak.

P.S. It is worth noting that in rare cases, the sound can be emitted by the bearings of the generator, air conditioning compressor or pump - this happens much less often.
