The audio system sounds acceptable. It is unlikely that most Renault Kangoo owners will want to change it, but if you wish, you can put any other “head” in its place - all connectors are standard. Alas, after replacing the system with a non-standard one, you will have to forget about displaying information on the central display and about the steering column control panel.

Using these two buttons, located to the right of the gearshift lever, is convenient in any situation. A nod to the polite driver, though I don't think the engineers bothered about that. Most likely there was nowhere else to stick these buttons. And so in plain sight, and do not interfere.

No one seems to have such a massive handbrake like Renault Kangoo. Yes, it would be fine, but how can a smoking driver get an ashtray on the go? Not only does it literally stand on the floor, it also does not pass between the handle and the central panel. You can squeeze it in without risking pulling out the handbrake, only on the right. With the dynamics of "16 seconds to 100 km / h", in order not to fall out of the stream, the engine often has to spin up to 4 or more thousand revolutions per minute, and this puts pressure on the ears. In addition, the gearbox has fuzzy inclusions, sometimes the gears are switched on with effort, as if the backstage is touching something inside. The clutch pedal “grabs” at the highest point, where it should already be idling, so the first day of the test I twisted the engine cool during the start, up to 2,000 rpm. Commercial vehicles make themselves known. Therefore, I have developed a consumer attitude to the motor-box combination: it rides well, you can get used to it.

Renault Kangoo on the go

The ground clearance of the Renault Kangoo is also suitable for an SUV (183 mm), so you can safely drive through the forest fields, as well as park close to the curbs. Even the mudguards do not strike - the fins are short. On bumpy roads, the car runs very smoothly. One thing is bad - because of the high center of gravity, it sways strongly at the same time. If it turns out to miss some hole, then Renault Kangoo simply does not notice it, as if it does not exist. As if flying over it - no push, no sound of impact. The same with speed bumps. And to break through the suspension of the car is simply impossible. With our roads, such abilities of the car have long been put at the forefront by absolutely everyone.

Dynamics cannot and should not be the forte of a car like the Renault Kangoo. For him, traction from the bottom is more important. With a fully loaded cabin and the air conditioner on, it is capable of confidently pulling uphill, as if empty. But during overtaking, you need to be more careful, switch to a lower gear, or even two, and overtake only with a good supply of free space in the oncoming lane. I don't recommend moving fast. The car will not roll over, but the rolls ... and it’s not comfortable even for the driver holding the steering wheel. Having driven 1,500 km behind the wheel of Renault Kangoo, I managed to find the limit of comfortable car speed - 100 km / h. You can drive faster, but the level of comfort drops sharply - it becomes too noisy, the shaking increases due to asphalt waves, and the rutting of our roads and the windage of the body begin to be felt on the steering wheel. That, perhaps, is all that I can tell about Renault Kangoo (Renault Kangoo).

Kangoo, which is at the junction of passenger and commercial vehicles, is as practical as possible. Everywhere (even on the ceiling!) Drawers, pockets, shelves. Five full-fledged seats are complemented by a huge trunk. Do you need to transport a "long vehicle"? We put the passenger seat in the horizon - and forward. Not enough of this - you can open one of the wings of the back door.

However, among the buyers of Kangoo there will certainly be those who don’t even have a dacha. Their spacious interior will captivate others - with its "airiness". The roof is somewhere high, the window sill is low (for a high-seated driver), the glass is huge - salvation for those suffering from claustrophobia. Toning Kangoo is the height of stupidity!







And all this for over eight hundred thousand - at the price of an ordinary golf class. Of course, Renault is not finished so exquisitely and is equipped with a simpler one - air conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, heating, music of the class “plays well”. Yes, there is Bluetooth! True, when talking on the phone it is better to slow down, otherwise the caller will think that you are on the subway - Kangoo is not the quietest car.

And not the fastest. Renault offers a choice of two engines: “gasoline” 1.6 and a 1.5-liter diesel – both exclusively with mechanics. The first is more powerful (102 hp versus 86), the second is more torquey (200 Nm instead of 145). The first is faster on the highway and quieter, the second is more cheerful in the city and more economical (minus 1.5-2 l / 100 km). But the essence is the same - the main thing is how to press it properly ... no, not the gas pedal. The rider that's in you. Yes, I understand this is not an easy step. But he, believe me, will emphasize all the advantages of Renault Kangoo and at the same time mask the shortcomings.

“An ordinary passenger car with a large trunk” - so, well, or something like that, advertising slogans and car dealership managers say, offering customers passenger versions of small commercial vehicles - “heels”.

The new Renault Kangoo looks much prettier than its predecessor. He got more stylish headlights, a radiator grill - now in front he has become something similar to our popular Clio Symbol. And this is already a departure from the utility of the car - the "workhorses" are trying to make it simpler for the sake of economy. Indeed, in such machines, functionality is more important, and design and comfort are put much lower. In this way, Renault, apparently, is trying to lure supporters of conventional station wagons to buy Renault Kengo. It turns out, they say, successfully - according to the press secretary of the Russian representative office of Renault (Avtoframos) Jan Dorizon, with the entry into the market of the restyled Kangoo, its sales in our country have increased markedly.

In the cabin, you understand: Renault still left the utilitarian, commercial car. But not far. The instrument cluster from an ordinary civilian passenger car of the same “Symbol” type - everything seems to be like a normal car. But too deliberately cheap plastic, which again betrays savings. However, its main purpose - functionality - "kangaroo" (as the word Kangoo is translated from French) performs. The cabin is quite comfortable, a lot of glove compartments for various little things, besides there is also a large shelf on top. True, we don’t recommend putting big things there - with sudden braking, all this can fall straight on the driver’s or passenger’s head. But for little things it's fine.

The instrument panel looks neat - quite informative, “user friendly”, as if taken from a passenger car, but that’s the way it is. Convenient climate control - the traditional three levers. In addition, even air conditioning is provided here, however, only as an option (it was in the test car). The toggle switches work well. The only complaint against them is the traditional Renault in placing the horn button on top of the left "oar". Despite the fact that on the steering wheel, as is customary throughout the world, there is also a horn here.

A separate conversation about the audio system. She is here, to be honest, without frills - the most common cassette recorder a la the beginning of the 90s. But in fact, she turned out to be very personal. Of course, she would not become a world champion in sound, but she copes with her task well. And most of all I was struck by the "range" of the radio. In those places where 90% of car radios do not receive radio, this one surely catches the right wave. In addition, the branded “Renovsky” steering column control unit for the audio system, familiar to us from other cars of the company, is installed in the standard. Once again, you note how clear, convenient and simple it is.

Comfortable in Renault Kangoo and passengers, both front and rear - there is enough legroom. True, you have to climb into the gallery through a single sliding door. This effect is achieved, though due to a direct landing - there is a lot of space above your head. Well, behind - actually what the car was created for. "Heel" pleases with a huge trunk. A huge wide opening, a flat floor, on the sides there are small containers for small things. Nothing superfluous: the spare wheel is suspended under the car, inside the disk lies a box with a jack, and the “balloon” was found a place at all under the hood. The only “but” is that the rear seat cannot be decomposed in parts, only as a whole. But with a double version, the luggage volume is almost three cubic meters. Enough to transport the entire country belongings at a time.

And what about Renault Kangoo in motion? There were concerns about the dynamics - after all, a 1.4-liter engine from the "baby" Clio Symbol, but under the hood of the "loader". Nothing, as it turned out, terrible. The car is still not racing, but utilitarian or family. We note short gears: for driving around the city - that's it. In addition, it is economical - even in traffic jams, the consumption did not exceed 10 liters per hundred. However, on the highway outside the city, Kangoo behaves confidently. The speed of 140 km / h keeps calm - no acoustic discomfort, the car does not take away. “I understand you perfectly, you need to drive fast in such a car,” the traffic police ensign says, writing out a protocol for speeding: on an empty country road, his radar measured 126 km / h.

But a second before the meeting with the ensign, there was far from the most pleasant incident. Counter albeit late, but blinked, of course, the speed slowed down in advance. We slow down carefully, there is enough stock. It seems to be enough, because he stopped a few millimeters from the Zhiguli, whose driver also got on the radar. Accident? No. The day before, a similar situation arose on a wide section of the Kyiv highway. The distance to the car in front is large, even huge, the speed is around 80 km / h, and suddenly braking in front of a traffic light. Not sharp braking, smooth ... And a thought flashes through my head: is there enough coverage for compulsory civil defense insurance to repair the stern of this Passat? Phew, a centimeter to the bumper. We wipe the sweat from the forehead and wait for the green signal. Perhaps ABS with a brake force distribution system would not hurt here. But this is not included in the basic package: the option is an overkill for commercial vehicles.

To finish with the shortcomings, two words about the suspension. If there is nothing in the trunk, then the rear passengers are shaking quite strongly - after all, based on the load, it is harsh. There is no such feeling in front - everything is in order, you are swimming, as if on waves. Manageability Kangoo at the level. No claims to the clarity of the steering wheel, to the gear moves, to the information content of the clutch. True, in comparison with a conventional station wagon, there is a little more roll in corners, but do not forget: the “kangaroo” is larger than a passenger car in all respects.

And yet, the answer to the question, is it worth buying a Renault Kangoo for yourself, is not so clear. As we have already said, an almost passenger station wagon was made from a van. Confuses just this "almost", which can be repeated several times. The design is almost from the "Symbol", but still "heel". By design, by the way, the popular name for small delivery vans, coming from IZH, you won’t give our hero - rather a “boot” or “boot”. The interior and ergonomics are almost from a passenger car, but you still feel like a workhorse. In general, if you need Kangoo for regular cargo transportation and for your own business, you can put up with these “almost” ones. With frequent trips to the country and a huge number of transported things, the same thing. And for normal everyday use, when cubic meters behind do not play a role, it is probably better to look at a simple sedan or hatchback.

The minimum price for Renault Kangoo in the Express configuration (with one airbag, central locking) is 11,100 euros. Our "kangaroo" was in a richer Authentique equipment for 12.5 thousand euros - with two pillows, a radio, a rear wiper, and air conditioning was an option.

In 2001, the French performed a Renault Kangoo facelift, adding an all-wheel drive version of the Trekka (Pampa) to the product line. At that time, only some "classmates" could boast of this option. The all-terrain version was distinguished by black plastic lining, tinted headlights and increased ground clearance.

The model was offered to the Russians with 2 engines: a 1.4-liter gasoline unit (75 hp) and a 1.5-liter turbodiesel (68 hp). All-wheel drive versions were not delivered to Russia.

Despite the incredible popularity, Renault Kengo I had a number of disadvantages:

  • models of the first years of production were subject to corrosion;
