The power supply system consists of a fuel tank with a level indicator sensor and a fuel reserve, fuel lines, a fuel pump, an air filter and a carburetor.

The fuel tank is welded from two halves stamped from leaded sheet steel. Outside the tank is painted with black enamel.

When there is 4.0-6.5 liters of fuel left, the control lamp on the instrument panel lights up. Fuel lines made of galvanized steel tubes and fixed from below to the bottom of the body with holders. The parts of the fuel system are interconnected by rubber hoses, secured with clamps.

The fuel pump is a diaphragm type, with a mechanical drive and a manual pumping lever. The pump is located on the left side of the cylinder block and is fixed through a heat-insulating spacer and gaskets on two studs with nuts. The pump is driven through a pusher from an eccentric on the auxiliary drive shaft or from a manual pumping lever. The pump capacity is not less than 60 l/h at a pumping frequency of 2000 cycles per minute. The pressure created by the pump is in the range of 0.20-0.30 kgf / cm². The pump consists of a lower housing with drive levers, an upper housing with inlet and discharge valves, a diaphragm assembly and a cover. The diaphragm assembly has two upper working and one lower (safety) diaphragms mounted on the rod. Between the workers and the safety gasket, inner and outer spacers are installed. In order to prevent fuel from entering the crankcase in case of damage to the working diaphragms of the fuel pump, a hole for draining the fuel is made in the outer gasket.

The air filter is dry, with a replaceable filter element that cleans the air entering the carburetor. The filter housing is mounted on the carburetor cover through a rubber gasket with spacer bushings on four studs and fastened with self-locking nuts. The top of the filter housing is closed with a cover with a rubber seal. In the air duct in front of the air filter housing is installed thermostat, allowing you to change the temperature of the incoming air. Depending on one of the three positions of the thermostatic damper, air is drawn in through the warm or cold air inlet, or from both at the same time. The damper position is set manually according to the ambient temperature. The air filter housing is connected by a crankcase gas supply hose to the oil separator cover of the crankcase ventilation exhaust system. A flame arrester is installed in the crankcase gas supply hose.

Carburetor model 2107-1107010 is installed on the car.

Carburetor emulsion type, two-chamber, with a falling stream. The combustible mixture is formed from the air entering through the air filter and the fuel supplied by the pump. This ensures uninterrupted supply of a combustible mixture of optimal composition in all engine operating modes. The prepared mixture is sucked through the inlet pipeline into the engine cylinders. The carburetor consists of three body parts: a cover, a carburetor body and a throttle body.

The carburetor is mounted on four intake pipe studs. In the carburetor cover there are inlet mouths of the primary and secondary mixing chambers, a fuel supply fitting from the fuel pump, fuel and air channels. The cap also has a fuel needle valve and a float attached to ensure the correct fuel level in the float chamber. The carburetor body has large diffusers and a float chamber. Removable small diffusers are installed inside the large diffusers, molded integrally with the atomizers of the econostat and the main dosing systems. Air and fuel channels are made in the carburetor body, air and fuel jets and an accelerator pump sprayer are installed.

The accelerator pump provides an additional portion of fuel to the primary mixing chamber when the gas pedal is pressed sharply. The diaphragm type pump is made in the tide of the body and is closed with a lid fixed with four screws. The diaphragm of the pump is moved by a lever. To ensure a smooth ride and, accordingly, a smooth and long injection, a damping spring is installed in the telescopic cup of the diaphragm. The accelerator pump lever is driven by a cam mounted on the throttle valve axle of the primary chamber.

From below, the throttle body is attached to the carburetor body with two screws. In it, rotary throttle valves are installed on the axles in the primary and secondary mixing chambers. The drive of the throttle valve of the primary chamber is carried out mechanically through a system of adjustable rods from the "gas" pedal. The drive of the throttle valve of the secondary chamber is pneumatic. The drive housing, with a diaphragm and a return spring, is fixed to the carburetor body with two screws. The drive rod is pivotally connected to the lever on the axis of the throttle valve of the secondary chamber. The pneumatic drive begins to open it when the throttle valve of the primary chamber is deflected by an angle of more than 48° and a vacuum is created in the mixing chambers sufficient to open the damper.

To start and operate the engine when warming up, the carburetor has a starting device and an air damper. The air damper is mounted on an axis in the inlet neck of the primary chamber of the carburetor cover. The damper is driven from the driver's seat by a cable from the control handle. The body of the starting device is fastened with two screws to the carburetor cover. The diaphragm rod of the starter drive is connected by a rod to the air damper lever. The starting device cavity is connected by an air channel to the primary mixing chamber. When the engine starts, a vacuum is created in the cavity. The diaphragm rod depresses the return spring, acts on the thrust and slightly opens the air damper.

Idling adjustment is carried out by screws of the composition (quality) and the amount of the mixture. The composition adjustment screw is installed in the lug hole of the throttle body and is closed with a plug. The mixture adjustment screw is installed in the economizer cover.

Body transformation

In the process of tuning the famous "four" from VAZ, the greatest attention is paid to changing the body. Its design is no longer considered attractive and modern, now this angular form looks outdated and unattractive. It is possible in several options, which differ in cost and scope of work:

  1. easy is to replace the radiator grille, tinted windows, install discs on the wheels and skirts "Vihur";
  2. with an average body tuning, it will be necessary to install alternative optics, replace the body kit, think about the possibility of ordering professional airbrushing and shaving, which consists in removing handles, locks and moldings;
  3. deep, as you might guess, is the most difficult, expensive and time-consuming, since it requires changes in the body structure, for example, changing the roof level, altering the coupe, installing lambo doors.

Even an easy tuning option will transform the appearance of the car. Sparkling chrome on the body, solid tinted windows, rare or, conversely, ultra-modern wheel covers - and your car will already look worthy on the road.

Changing the body structure

And if you take a more serious approach to the transformation of a domestic car and decide to “truncate” the body, then you can get a small-sized car that can be deftly drifted and easily maneuvered. To get such a powerful baby, it is necessary to remove part of the passenger compartment and reduce the length of the driveshaft. Hoping for significant fuel savings is not worth it, consumption will decrease, but not as significantly as we would like. Now you need to do electrical wiring, shift the brake lines, carefully close everything and repaint. Another cardinal decision is to move the spare wheel to the trunk lid. But such a design, as they say, is not for everybody.

The body structure can change not only in length, but also in height. Usually, the cabin height is lowered by a maximum of 15 cm. This result can be achieved by cutting the pillars, changing the front bumper, and rear lighting. The exterior in this case changes dramatically. Getting used to such dimensions of the car will not be easy.

If you are lucky enough to ride on perfect asphalt, then you can transform your VAZ-2104 in a rare Stance style. Its essence lies in the installation of short springs and discs of small diameter. A car with such changes is quite rare, so your VAZ-2104 can become a unique instance. A more popular type of tuning is a body lift, which is the opposite of Stance. Such a car can easily overcome bad sections of the road and even off-road.

The controversial point is the need to strengthen the supporting body platforms. This moment cannot be called mandatory, but it is still better if it is implemented. It certainly won't get any worse than this. The installation of stiff springs, which is provided for in the tuning process, requires reinforced metal. For the front suspension, you can choose springs from the Volga, and pick up the rear shock absorbers from the Gazelle front end.

Seriously, you need to think about installing air bags that will not allow the body to sway, and make the move softer. Pneumopillows are installed inside the springs. A similar element can be added to a lifted and standard body, its operation will not change from this.

Coloring

Body painting is an important element in any tuning. Still, this parameter is most striking and is able to highlight any car. There are several ways to solve this problem. You can go the standard way and cover the body with ordinary paint with an interesting effect (metallic, chameleon, matte, glossy). One of the new solutions is liquid rubber. Such coloring will not only make the tuned car expressive, but also protect the body from external influences. Airbrushing can be used not only on expensive foreign cars, but also on models of the domestic auto industry. It is better to entrust such coloring to specialists who have extensive experience in this field and can transfer any fantasy to metal. Airbrushing requires compliance with the declared status, and if you have already chosen this method of transformation, then a clumsy roof rack, old wheels or a rusty trailer will make the car ridiculous and tasteless.

Internal changes

Inside the car, you will need to do as much work as outside. By we mean pumping the engine, replacing the brake system and modifying the interior. But first things first.

Engine and brakes

Tuning domestic cars is embodied not only in external changes, but also in internal ones. Believe me, under the hood, a lot of parts need reorganization or complete replacement. The main element of any car - the engine - is primarily subject to tuning. If your car has a native power unit that has faithfully worked out its due date, then it is better to send it to a well-deserved rest, that is, to scrap metal. Still, the metal is rather tired, and even physical deterioration takes place - these factors do not allow us to talk about further refinement and forcing. There is only one conclusion - the old engine, which unscrewed several circles of the speedometer, must be replaced, and you can still work on newer units.

A worthy replacement for the old engine will be a powerful unit taken from the VAZ-21213, its volume will be 1900 cm3. Its power can be increased from 79 to 120 horses, but this will require some effort and parting with your hard-earned money. The forcing process consists in boring the channels, grinding the intake manifold, installing cast pistons with a diameter of 82 mm. To change the valve timing, it will be necessary to purchase a new camshaft, with which it will be possible to lift the valves up to 10.8 mm.

When using a sports crankshaft by 88 mm and increasing the level of piston lift, it is possible to increase the volume of the power unit and facilitate the removal of the increased force that occurs during the combustion of the fuel-air mixture.

Installing a lightweight flywheel will reduce the loss of power that is spent on the promotion of the motor. As a result, the car will pick up the required speed in a short time.

The exhaust and power system also need an upgrade, which consists of installing an air filter, a sports exhaust manifold and a straight-through muffler.

It remains to upgrade the brakes, which are responsible for the safety of the driver, his passengers and other road users. Drum brakes, which are available on the rear axle in the VAZ-2104, are difficult to operate, and even not effective enough. Their replacement is mandatory, 13-inch ventilated disc brakes are well suited for this.

Salon change

The effect of all the external changes that have occurred with the VAZ-2104 will be irrevocably spoiled by an outdated interior. is no less important than upgrading the engine and working on the body. Everything here can be very simple. If the seats are in good condition but look worn, you can replace the upholstery. With sufficient funding, you can choose a leather material for upholstery, but any other will also look good. Carbon fiber decor is a great way to enhance the effect of tuning and give the interior a high cost.

Modifications of the VAZ-2104

The following models were produced: - 21041, 21043 and 21043-07, differing in engines of 1.2 liters, 1.5 liters and a "seven" interior, respectively. In 1994, the VAZ-2104 with a 1.3-liter engine was discontinued. Today, the VAZ 21043 with a 1.5-liter engine and a five-speed manual gearbox has become the base model, which makes the VAZ 21043 AW car more dynamic and enjoyable to drive. Not so long ago, a modification of the VAZ-21045 appeared with an atmospheric (non-aspirated) diesel engine manufactured by Barnaultransmash, with a volume of 1.52 liters.

Interior design and controls

Generally design model VAZ-2104, like all classical models, ascetic. But the interior of the car, depending on your desire, may be different. VAZ-2104 engine and its features

Engine 2104-1000260 can be used for installation on VAZ 2103, 2104, 2106, 21053, 2107 vehicles.
Initially, the VAZ 2104 engine was produced only in a carburetor version. Later it was modified to use a fuel injection system and received the designation VAZ 2104-21.
The VAZ 2104 engine was created on the basis of the previous model - the VAZ 2103. The design used: a cylinder block, a connecting rod and a piston group, a timing drive and a crankshaft from the 2103 engine.

Cylinder block from the VAZ 2103 engine. Cylinder diameter - 76.00 mm. Accepted overhaul dimensions - 76.40 and 76.80. The engine is fitted with a 2103 crankshaft or an interchangeable 21213 crankshaft.
To ensure the operation of the injection system, it was necessary to install components and parts from other engines, which were originally developed for the fuel injection scheme. A new camshaft drive cover is used, on which there is a place for installing a sensor that controls the position of the crankshaft. It was required to install the cylinder head 2104-1003015, of the original design, with enlarged areas for the intake manifold. The design of the head provides for the installation of nozzles. The camshaft, valves and springs correspond to those installed on the VAZ 2103 engine. Installation of valve lever hydraulic bearings is not provided.
The timing drive is carried out from a two-row bush-roller chain 2103-1006040. The chain tensioning mechanism is mechanical, similar to the device on the VAZ 2103 engine.

A pulley with a damper and a drive disk 21214-1005058-11 is installed on the crankshaft. To drive the generator, a belt 2107-1308020 is used (length - 944mm). Injector modification 2104 has an original power supply system. The system includes an electric fuel pump with a fuel gauge sensor, fuel lines, a fuel filter, a fuel rail with injectors, an air filter, air supply hoses, a throttle valve and a fuel vapor recovery system. To clean the air entering the engine, a model 2112 air filter is provided. A model 2104 or model 2123-1008027 receiver is installed with the intake manifold. Throttle pipe 2112 is installed to adjust the volume of incoming air.
The electric fuel pump module 21073-1139009 is installed in the tank and provides fuel supply to the fuel rail and injectors. Used original fuel rail 2104-1144010, box type with pressure regulator and return drain line. Injection is carried out using four nozzles in pairs and parallel action. It is possible to install injectors BOSCH 0 280 158 502 (black, thin), SIEMENS VAZ 6393 (beige, thick) or other types with appropriate parameters.
The ignition system includes: a model 2112 ignition module mounted on a special bracket on the cylinder block, spark plugs and high voltage wires. The ignition module contains two ignition coils and two electronic controls. In accordance with the control signals from the control unit, the ignition module generates and supplies high-voltage pulses to the spark plugs.
Ignition control is assigned to the electronic engine management system. This system provides control of the amount of air and fuel supplied to the cylinders, controls the operation of the fuel pump, controls the supply of high-voltage pulses from the ignition coil to the spark plugs and corrects the ignition timing, regulates the idle speed of the crankshaft. The main control element of the system is the electronic control unit (ECU)-controller.
The engine complies with EURO-2 toxicity standards.
