For several post-premier days, the model received a huge amount of laudatory reviews, positive comments and exclamations of admiration. In my purely personal opinion, the car turned out to be very strange in appearance. The back of it generally resembles stylized virtual models from the well-known GTA game ... I probably need to get used to the style first and try to objectively figure out whether the new model is really so strange or is it still different from its predecessor for the better.

After reading foreign comments on the new Mercedes-Benz CLS, I came to some conclusions, which, combined in one material, will help us understand what has changed, and who is still better, the new or the old CLS.

What impressed the majority of the audience? Maybe everyone was struck by the technical features of the sedan-coupe? Or has the engine range expanded so much that everyone gasped? No! As I said just above, the main features that attracted the attention of car fans were precisely the design. Why? It's simple, it turned out to be expected and exactly the way most people imagined it. Sporty, to a certain extent removed from the style of a strictly E-Class. Moderately sporty, very stylish. In general, a classic look at the topic.

Recall at least the first generation CLS. Very original and extremely unusual car. It was the world's first four-door coupe, pulling a string of similar in spirit models from other automakers such as the most famous in the style of the Audi A7 Sportback, BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe.


Having created a completely new niche and won the sympathy of millions, Mercedes revised the design of the next second-generation model, which abandoned smooth lines, moving on to a sharp, sometimes angular, but no less attractive design.

The latter includes a 48-volt starter-generator, powered by its own lithium-ion battery, and allows for a short-term increase in output by 22 hp. and 250 Nm. The electric motor helps at the start and in a number of other cases when it is necessary, and during braking it recovers energy to recharge its battery.

The same superstructure (except with a slightly more modest 14-horsepower and 150 Nm engine) is also provided for the CLS 350 version with the new two-liter “four” of the M264 series (with two turbochargers), which produces 299 hp. and 400 Nm. From 0 to 100 km / h, this option travels in 6.2 seconds, the maximum speed is limited to two hundred and fifty.

The price of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Klasse in Russia starts from 4,950,000 rubles for the basic diesel modification in the Elegance configuration (surcharge for the Sport version is 250,000 rubles), and the more powerful 400d version costs at least 5,610,000 rubles.
