The history of the Chevrolet Malibu has almost fifty years. The Malibu modification was an improved version of one of the most popular Chevrolet Chevelle models, manufactured at the plants of the General Motors division. The first car of this series left the assembly line in 1964. Initially, the cars of the line were rear-wheel drive, since 1997 the model has been produced with front-wheel drive. Traditionally, Chevrolet cars were sold exclusively in the North American continent, but in 2011 the new Chevrolet Malibu became the first model of the family, which marked the beginning of a full-scale expansion of American cars into world markets.

First generation Chevrolet Malibu (1964-1967)
Chevrolet Chevelle was supposed to push the Ford Fairlane in the market. Among the models offered were 2-door convertibles and hardtop coupes, 4-door station wagons and 4-door sedans. In early 1968, Chevrolet Chevelle became the owner of a new, larger body. Convertibles and the Sport Super model were moved out of the lineup and into an independent lineup. Malibu got a trendy vinyl interior and sports recessed seats.
Third generation Chevrolet Malibu (1973-1977)
The third-generation Chevy sold a total of about 1.7 million copies. The car was positioned as "the most popular middle-class car in America." 1973 was the busiest year for the line in terms of the number and quality of modifications introduced. The third-generation Chevrolet was one of NASCAR's most active drivers, winning a total of 34 races in five years.
Fourth generation Chevrolet Malibu (since 1978)
In 1978, the name "Malibu" was finally assigned to the most popular car in the Chevrolet lineup. The updated Chevy has become shorter and lighter, but there is more legroom and headroom. In 1997, the Chevrolet Malibu was presented to the public with a front-wheel drive on a wide platform wheelbase GM N. In the same year, Chevy Malibu was named "car of the year" according to Motor Trend magazine. In 2004, the Malibu model appeared on the Epsilon wheelbase.
Sixth generation Chevrolet Malibu (since 2002)
In 2002, the management of the automaker decided to transfer all new generations of Malibu to the Epsilon platform with two body types - a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon.

A heavy steering wheel with a noticeable backlash is uninformative, therefore, when driving at high speed, it is necessary to correct the set course by steering. The soft suspension scares you in corners with huge rolls, but it allows you to overcome bumps with almost no shaking or jolts.
V generation (1997 - 2000)
Almost 15 years later, Chevrolet decided to bring the Malibu back to the market. The car was produced exclusively in the sedan body and was offered at a very competitive price, which made it possible to make it massive. However, the original body design was not to everyone's taste.

Interior
Smooth lines and conservative architecture of the front panel set in a peaceful mood, while inside it is very cozy. The quality of the materials in general is not bad, however, the hard plastic can creak when driving over bumps.
The instrument panel is readable and informative. However, its design evokes a feeling of melancholy. On the center console there is a block of a regular audio system, as well as a climate control unit. The latter is regulated by three clashing toggle switches ̶ convenient, but again, archaic.
The driver's seat has optimal rigidity and a good profile, while its adjustment ranges are wide. The latter makes it possible to get behind the wheel of a person of any build.
The sofa in the second row is quite comfortable. There is enough knee room even with a height of 185 centimeters, although there is not as much space above the head as we would like.
Driving properties
Chevrolet Malibu accelerates perfectly. This is the merit of the 170-horsepower engine, which pulls very well at medium and low speeds. The automatic transmission also works well, changing gears quickly. Although sometimes she admits twitches.
The steering sensitivity is increased, but the steering wheel itself is empty and lacks pronounced feedback. When cornering, there is a diagonal buildup, and understeer makes it significantly limit speed.

VI generation (2004 - 2006)

The "eighth" Chevrolet Malibu retained the same stylistic concept in the exterior design, while becoming more complete and harmonious. The main emphasis was placed on equipping the model.

After restyling, the Chevrolet Malibu began to look more modern thanks to the chrome trim of the front bumper, other side mirror housings, and a different grille configuration. A new multimedia complex has been installed inside and finishing materials have been improved.
However, the main changes lie under the hood of the car. The company listened to the feedback from the owners and decided to make the car more dynamic.

If we talk about handling, then it is somewhat imposing. The steering wheel lacks higher sensitivity, and rolls are felt when cornering. Nevertheless, the behavior of the car on the road cannot be called lax - it follows the course quite predictably.
Energy-intensive suspension harshly fulfills bumps. However, even when the passenger compartment is fully loaded, the shock absorber struts adequately withstand bumps from the road and do not break through.
IX generation (2015 - present)
The successor of the model made a real breakthrough both in the field of design and technology, which greatly pleased the fans of the model. The body is characterized by swiftness and aggression, while the interior can boast of high quality finishing materials, modern options.
Technique
Gasoline engines are offered to choose from: installations of 1.5 and 2.0 liters. The power of the first is 160, the second ̶ 250 forces. Gearboxes are automatic ̶ six and nine steps.

In April 2015, at the New York Auto Show, a new mid-size sedan model from Chevrolet, the Malibu, was shown. The car began to look more stylish, gained sporty notes, and the interior and technical stuffing also changed. The new body looks very massive, got a bunch of decorative elements, relief and all sorts of other interesting things. The front of the car looks unusual, which is very long and wide. The hood here is only slightly tilted, but has a large recess in the very center.

At the rear, restyling brought a large number of sporting elements to the car. For example, a small protrusion on the luggage compartment lid, which serves to simplify braking. The optics are quite large, made in the form of a parallelogram. The lower part of the bumper is distinguished by additional brake lights and two oval exhaust pipes.
Salon
Inside, the new 2018 Chevrolet Malibu is just as beautifully decorated as it is on the outside. Only premium materials are used in the decoration - leather, metal and a little wood.
The center console is poorly filled, which is due to the presence of a multimedia screen, in which the main functionality is concentrated. On the side of it are placed vertical deflectors, and below - a small row of buttons and washers.
The tunnel looks great here, starting with a large hole for wireless charging of phones or tablets. Next is the gear knob, and on the side of it is a hole hidden under a wooden cover. The tunnel ends with a very long and comfortable armrest that opens in two directions.
There are a lot of interesting things on the steering wheel. With it, the driver's seat is adjusted in several ranges, the audio system, cruise control and air conditioning are adjusted. A lot of things can be found on the dashboard. About half of the space here is reserved for speed and rpm indicators, and all other necessary information is displayed on the rest of the area.
No less cool are the seats, which are trimmed with pleasant leather and filled with good material, allowing all passengers to be in comfort throughout the journey. The front row is equipped with all the necessary functions - adjustments, heating and ventilation. There is also modest lateral support. The back row can accommodate three passengers.

The technical equipment of the Chevrolet Malibu 2018 is also impressive. The simplest modification comes with a one and a half liter unit capable of delivering 160 horsepower. It is paired only with an automatic transmission operating in six modes. Consumption - 7.5 liters of gasoline.
