Renault Scenic 2 is a class C compact MPV of the French company Renault. The Scenic first appeared 13 years ago, and since then, it has rightly been called one of the most futuristic compact vans on the market. This car is hardly suitable for those who like to burn rubber in traffic light races and cut through the city at night at maximum speed. This car will be of interest to those who are used to driving out of town on weekends, and not alone, but with a large family, as well as for those who value practicality and comfort in cars more than appearance and large engine capacity.

A bit of history:

The Renault Scenic concept car was first presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1991. The development of the production model began in 1995, after the premiere of the Renault Megan hatchback, on the basis of which it was built. The official premiere of Renault Scenic took place in 1996. Despite its relatively high cost, this model was a very popular car on the European market (about three million copies were produced during production). This was confirmed by the title "European Car of the Year" awarded to him in 1997. In 1999, the manufacturer carried out a small upgrade, during which the front of the car and the instrument panel were changed. Also, the line of power units was also changed - 16-valve 1.4 liters (98 hp) and 1.6 liters (105 hp) were finalized. In 2000, the first Scenic "RX4" rolled off the assembly line, the novelty differed from the standard version of the car by the presence of all-wheel drive, increased ground clearance up to 210 mm and a slightly modified exterior design. It was taken out of production in 2003.

The premiere of Renault Scenic 2 took place in March 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show. Unlike its predecessor, the new product has not only a common platform with, but also an external resemblance. Both cars were built on the new platform of the Renault-Nissan alliance - Nissan C. In addition to the regular version, a seven-seater modification was also presented on the market, which was called the Grand Scenic. In 2006, a restyled version of the car debuted at the Paris Auto Show. The main changes: the radiator grille received a new style, the bumpers began to be painted in body color, the design of the rims and the interior changed. The Grand Scenic became available in two versions - five- and seven-seater, "smart" parking sensors appeared, beeping not only when parking, but also at the risk of a collision with another vehicle. In 2007, an all-wheel drive version of the model appeared on the market, called the "Scénic Conquest" - the successor to the RX4.

The third generation of the model was presented in March 2009 at the Geneva auto show. The car has traditionally inherited the platform and design of the new one. At the end of 2011, Renault Scenic 3 was restyled. During the update, the design of the front part has changed dramatically, new power units of the Energy family have appeared, and the list of equipment has expanded. In 2013, another restyled version of the model was presented in Geneva, which was given a modern look, and the list of available equipment was also supplemented. Along with the updated model, Renault introduced an off-road modification of the compact van, called the Renault Scenic XMOD.

Weaknesses and shortcomings of Renault Scenic 2 with mileage

The paintwork, like most modern cars, is rather weak, because of this, scratches and chips appear even from a slight mechanical impact. The body iron is well galvanized, due to which it is not prone to corrosion, even in places of chips, rust does not appear for a very long time. One of the most common problems is the failure of the hood latch (stops closing). Temporary solution: before closing the hood, pull the lock tongue. Often, lubricating the lock is enough to fix the problem. If the windshield wipers cease to cope with their duties (most often on the passenger side), it is necessary to replace the bearing of the trapezoid leash (5-10 c.u.).

Over time, the rear window washer starts to work every other time, the reason is that the washer fluid flow switch valve is wedged. Before buying a car, be sure to check the operability of the heated rear-view mirrors, the failure of the heating element is a fairly common occurrence. Also, special attention should be paid to: door locks - keyless access stops working and the rear window - bursts with sudden changes in temperature. During operation, you need to carefully monitor the drainage system and, if necessary, clean it, otherwise it will clog and water will begin to enter the cabin through the air intake. Often, moisture gets on the electronic unit responsible for controlling the climate system fan and disables it.

Power units

The range of Renault Scenic 2 power units includes not only gasoline, but also diesel engines: gasoline - 1.4 (98 hp), 1.6 (105, 111 and 113 hp), 2.0 (136 and 165 hp) ; diesel - 1.5 (80, 86, 100, 106), 1.9 (115, 120 and 130 hp), 2.0 (110, 150 and 160 hp). All power units are equipped with a timing belt drive; it is recommended to replace the belt with guides and tension rollers every 60,000 km. To replace the timing elements, it is advisable to turn to experienced specialists, the fact is that the pulley has a keyless fit, and if the fixing bolt is not tightened, the pulley can turn, thereby provoking a fatal meeting of the valves with the pistons. The crankshaft damper pulley serves 150-200 thousand km. About problems with the damper, rattling, rattle in the engine area will tell you, which disappears when you press the clutch pedal. At the same time as the timing belt, it is recommended to change the pump, since very often its resource does not exceed 80,000 km.

Another ailment that is common to all motors is the failure of the cooling fan resistor. Symptoms - the fan constantly runs at medium speed. The 1.6 gasoline engine is considered the most common, its weak point is the unreliability of the phase regulator (crackling appears during the start of a cold engine and diesel at idle, also, the engine may not start the first time) and failure of the camshaft position sensor. The 2.0 motor, like the weaker unit, is not without problems with the phase regulator, in addition, the owners note an unpleasant squeak during engine operation. The reason is the peculiarity of the operation of the membrane of the crankcase ventilation system.

On both power units, ignition coils are not famous for their reliability; Sagem coils have gained the most notoriety. If the engine stops starting, the reason most likely lies in the oxidized contacts of the crankshaft sensor or freon pressure in the air conditioning system (it is tied into a common power circuit with other sensors of the power unit). Both engines do not like an economical driving mode (coasting, etc.), as a result of such operation, malfunctions occur in the ignition system - carbon deposits appear on the candles. Also, this mode can provoke coking of the rings. The service life of a gasoline pump rarely exceeds 100,000 km.

Diesel engines

Renault Scenic 2 with diesel power units was not officially delivered to us. Most of these specimens were imported through outbids. As a rule, in Europe, such cars are bought with a mileage of 150,000 km or more, and in our secondary market, most of these cars are sold with a mileage of 100-120 thousand km. In Europe, the average car service interval is 20-25 thousand km, which negatively affects the engine life. At a power unit with a volume of 1.5 liters, after 150-200 thousand kilometers, it turns the connecting rod bearings. Symptoms - a knock appears during the start of a cold engine, and, also, with an increase in speed. To avoid expensive repairs, it is recommended to replace the liners after 150,000 km of run. Replacing the liners costs 120-150 USD. If the liners are not replaced in a timely manner, the crankshaft will have to be changed - 600-800 cu The 1.9 DCI turbo engine did not bypass this ailment. Unlike a weaker motor, here this ailment manifests itself on a run of over 250,000 km. The turbocharger is reliable and, with proper operation, is able to last more than 200,000 km, replacing the turbine will cost 300-400 USD. Depending on the year of manufacture and engine size, fuel systems from different manufacturers were installed on the car: Delphi (the most capricious) - was installed on cars until 2006, Siemens - since 2006, Bosch (the most reliable) - was installed only on 1.9 DCI engines.

Transmission

Renault Scenic 2 was equipped with two types of gearboxes - 5 and 6-speed manual and four-band automatic transmission DP0 (installed in tandem with gasoline power units). The mechanics are reliable and do not often bother their owners. The most common ailment of a manual transmission is an oil leak at the junction of the clutch housing and gearbox, the problem is not widespread. Also, some owners note unpleasant twitches at the beginning of the movement - the problem is treated only by replacing the clutch kit. The average clutch life is 120-150 thousand km.

But, the automatic transmission on the car of the first years of production turned out to be a rather problematic unit. Problems with automatic transmission can begin after 70-90 thousand kilometers, the first symptoms of the upcoming repair of the box will be twitching. If you do not contact the service, over time, the box will go into emergency mode. The reasons are failed oil seals, valve body, solenoid valves, torque converter, etc. On cars manufactured after 2006, the first problems with automatic transmission begin after 120,000 km. The cost of repairing an automatic transmission ranges from 200 to 400 USD.

Reliability running Renault Scenic 2

An independent MacPherson strut suspension is installed at the front, and a semi-independent beam at the rear. In good condition, the Renault Scenic 2 suspension is able to provide a fairly comfortable ride. The chassis is the Achilles' heel of this model, especially on cars from the first years of production. The weak point of the front suspension is wheel bearings, on pre-styling versions they could fail after 15-30 thousand kilometers, on restyled cars the situation has improved significantly and the bearing life has increased to 70-90 thousand km.

Also, ball bearings can be attributed to consumables here, on average 60-70 thousand km go. Stabilizer struts nurse up to 80,000 km, bushings up to 120,000 (over time, the bushings “eat up” the stabilizer, because of this, when replacing them, their seats have to be sealed). Shock absorbers and thrust bearings (I can creak after 50,000 km), with careful operation, they will last 100-120 thousand km. Silent blocks and levers nurse up to 150,000 km. The rear suspension is considered not to be killed, despite this, on some specimens, after 100,000 km of run, silent blocks had to be changed (they are changed assembled with a beam). Closer to 200,000 km, the shock absorber springs need to be replaced - the spring coil breaks off.

In the steering system, the weak point is the right rack bushing - it quickly breaks. Symptoms - knocking from the front of the car while driving on a rough road. Also, branded steering tips are not famous for their endurance - the average service life is 40-50 thousand km (when replacing, it is better to give preference to a good analogue). At the same time, tie rods can last up to 130,000 km. In the brake system, sometimes there are problems with the correct operation of the automatic parking brake (electric handbrake) - the pads do not completely move away from the disc. The reason is that the cable turns sour (replacement is required), also, the ailment can be caused by the failure of the dual relay on the control board, in which case the repair will cost 300-500 USD.

Salon

The quality of finishing materials Renault Scenic 2 corresponds to the class of the car. Of the shortcomings, only uncomfortable front seats and creaky plastic can be noted. Things are much worse with the reliability of the electrical equipment of the cabin. Most often, owners are faced with a malfunction of power windows and air recirculation systems. Also, a common ailment is the failure of the dashboard and the breakage of the driver's airbag connection cable. If moisture enters the passenger compartment, due to a clogged drainage system, the electrical wiring begins to rot over time, as a result of which the electrical equipment of the rear of the car fails (wiper, feet, number plate lights, etc.). On a car with a mileage of 100-150 thousand km, there may be problems with the air conditioner. The most common is the jamming of the air conditioning compressor. Often, the air conditioner stops working due to the failure of the electromagnetic clutch and pressure sensors. Also, wear of the system pipeline and seals at the joints can lead to a malfunction of the air conditioner.

Outcome:

Renault Scenic 2 is suitable for those people who value comfort and practicality in cars. If we talk about the reliability of this model, then it is difficult to call this car problem-free due to numerous minor malfunctions; after many years of operation, many owners have an ambiguous impression about the car. The best option for purchasing is considered to be a car of the last years of production; before buying, it is recommended to carry out a full diagnosis in a specialized service.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your review that will help readers of our site when choosing a car.

Sincerely, editorial Autoavenue

In June, I decided to buy a car, I looked at a huge assortment ranging from small Ford Fusion, Skoda Fabia, moving into family heels like Citroen Berlingo First, Fiat Doblo Panorama, and ending with compact vans Citroen C4 Picasso, Ford S-Max, Opel Zafira, but I ran into a car market with Renault Grand Scenic, spinning around the car, sat, climbed on the trunk, pressed the buttons, the manager talked about the car and its past, it seemed to be hooked, they started the engine, swept through the parking lot, the beginning was a “teapot” dream habit died out (who doesn’t happen to). After examining it from all sides, I went home to think with my family) showed the photos everyone approved, and entrusted the final decision to me. After reading the reviews of car owners, I decided to try out the machine), especially since the price for it was not high in relation to price-quality-opportunity. So I bought a Renault Grand Scenic 1.5 turbodiesel on June 24, 2011 with a mileage of 56000 km (according to the instrument), left the passenger compartment and got used to the controls for the first 5-10 minutes, surprisingly I got used to it very quickly, all switches, pedals, steering wheel are clear. The on-board computer alarmed at first with its central position on the dashboard, but as it turned out in practice it was very convenient and practical, it also alarmed the fuel consumption of 5.5l / 100km declared by the manager, on the same day we packed up and moved to the dacha to a friend, 75km along the highway with small plugs, the total fuel consumption is only 4.7 liters on the computer at a speed of 120-140 km / h in 6th gear, a pleasant filling for a large car) The speed, as it should be for foreign brands, is not felt, the steering wheel is soft at low speed, at high speed it “dubes” and gives the car a confident move, the power steering, as it seemed to me, is rather weak, there is an electric booster, but after the Lada it is like on a bicycle. The interior ergonomics are great, sitting both front and back is very comfortable, the knees of long passengers in the back seat do not reach the backs of the front seats, legs and ass do not swell during long continuous trips both in the city and on the highway. Many complain about the weakness of the engine, for me it’s very enough, there was a trip with a fully loaded trunk and 3 passengers, there was enough power to overtake uphill, acceleration after 120 is not very sure, but this is not a sports car to drive 160 on it and above, so 106 horses is enough. The trunk volume also leaves no chance for indifference, they threw a bunch of bags and boxes, and there is still room up to the ceiling) in the case of long objects, the back row of seats folds easily, each separately. A nice touch from the middle seat armrest for rear passengers, and tables built into the front seat. We were also pleasantly surprised by the car’s functions, such as air conditioning, without which it’s hard to drive in traffic jams, cruise control (limiting or maintaining speed) rarely turns on, but it’s nice that there is, steering wheel adjustment in two positions and driver’s seat height. The location of the gearbox in the center console saves space between the front seats. A large number of "hooks" is also a nice addition, 4 drawers under the feet, 2 pockets in the trunk on the sides and a niche for tools under the trunk mat. I was not pleased with the lack of a spare tire under the bottom, but it was replaced with 2 puncture repair kits. I have traveled a little so far, 2000 km from the moment of purchase, but there have not yet been any complaints about any malfunctions, I think they will not appear, nothing has yet begun to sting. If you have a choice between Renault Scenic or another car, and you have already noticed the advantages, choose Renault and you will not regret your choice. Added 09/28/11 Mileage to this day is 69000km, the car is already 3 months old. I am writing a report on its operation. In Russia, of course, the car staggers perfectly quickly, I managed to pull out the front hub bearing, I haven’t gone to replace it yet, it doesn’t seem to rattle so much, to be honest, I haven’t even opened it yet, I haven’t looked at it, due to lack of finance for new bearings, I don’t even want to to climb there just like that, note the price in Moscow stores, the original is about 2000 rubles apiece. I read on the internet that people put Moscow ones there for 300-500 rubles and go for a year without any hassle. During the period between the first and second reports, I managed to go to the Bryansk region 650 km from the Moscow Ring Road, the car showed itself perfectly on the highway, I have never driven anything so comfortably. The cruise control that I spoke about earlier was very handy, I was driving at night, then the car was not big, I turned on 125 km / h and forgot about the pedals on a straight road, chagrin came on the broken roads of the Bryansk region, the suspension is very noisy, almost everything rattled in the cabin, but worthy shock absorbers practiced their work, especially when overtaking on such a road. I tried to disperse it to the maximum speed, after 140 it picks up speed a bit, 170 km / h was already scary, while slowing down to an acceptable speed I got on the traffic police camera, recorded 134 km / h although the speedometer showed 140 up to the traffic police post, fined 1000 rubles as an honest driver) ) I replaced the brake pads as planned, which still had a lot, to my surprise there were pads marked Renault, I decided for myself that they were still relatives) changed to ATE cost 1100r for the rear set. I didn’t touch the front ones, they have enough resource for another 10-15t.km. It is necessary to change the timing belt in connection with overcoming the 60t.km mark, in Moscow services they take up work from 5000r + a set of belt with rollers 3500r. I hope so far the car will travel without replacement, because there is nothing to buy from, although it is risky. The rear shock absorbers, judging by the knock, have already become unusable, I haven’t found out the prices yet, I ride on a spring, but in the near future you should pay attention to them. Otherwise, everything is in order, I only climbed under the hood to change the oil, I will soon climb to change it again, I travel a lot for daily needs. Frosts have not yet set in, at a temperature of 7-9 degrees, pre-heating is activated, after which it starts up stably with a few turns of the starter. Waiting for the winter to see how it will continue to show itself. Added 4 years later. 09/12/2015 So I have owned the car for 4 years and 3 months. For 4 years, I learned a lot about the car, and that the mileage is significantly twisted (-110000 km), today it is 165tkm (real 270tkm) according to tidy, the car behaves like new, I managed to sort out the suspension completely in front and partially in the back. Because I already wrote that the suspension is stiff and breaks through, due to inexperience with this model, I put the same European suspension on Monroe spare parts. The behavior of the car has improved, it allows you to calmly drive 180-190 on the roads near Moscow, confidently overtake and do not spare fuel. BUT I recently learned that it is possible to put a Russian suspension with increased ground clearance and omnivorousness among bumps and pits, while I am collecting money. I also managed to wave the clutch with a complete set (flywheel + disk + basket + clutch release) stuck on 40tr for spare parts + 10tr of work. They put it crookedly, after that I don’t communicate with the Moscow Kulibins, for all serious work I turn to the great “Watermelon” in Minsk. In addition to the suspension and clutch, I managed to change the regulators on the high-pressure fuel pump = 9000r for 2 pieces, the intercooler pipe = 5000r BU from Watermelon, Connecting rod bearings = 12000r in Minsk at Watermelon. I changed the standard tires (Michlen Velcro) for 2 sets of winter + summer (I took Dunlop Graspic DS3 for the winter - excellent behavior and comfort), and for the summer I took a cheap Chinese one (Sumo Firenza ST-05 - a rare G ...) already in 2 seasons worn out. I’m not going to say goodbye to the car, although the car is aged (7 years), its strength does not leave it, I didn’t put anything into the engine except for liners. The plans are for another overshoot of the clutch (due to the curvature of the last replacement) and suspension (I want softer and higher, albeit slower), it also remains to change the front brake discs, the rear ones have changed during the day in the yard without any problems, everything is spinning, removed and installed without problems). To this day, I do not regret buying the Grand Scenic "a second generation.

Renault Scenic appeared in 1996 and immediately became popular as an affordable and comfortable family car. Released in 1999 Scenic II combined the practicality of a minivan and the comfort of a sedan.

Exterior and interior

The second generation Renault Scenic was presented in March 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car received a platform from Megane and its recognizable features: wide optics, a sloping flat front of the body, a characteristic rear overhang and an almost vertical rear window. Thanks to the reverse slope of the C-pillar, the second Scenic has become not only more characteristic, but also more comfortable: this solution has increased the amount of space for rear passengers.

The second Scenic was produced in 5-seater and 7-seater body versions. The latter was called Grand Scenic and extended by 40 cm wheelbase.

WITH corrosion the second Scenic is not friendly. The manufacturer assures that it is factory galvanized, the owners begin to notice pockets of rust either after their own “lapping” or already at high mileage. Then you should especially carefully look at the edges of the rear fenders, the rear doors and the bottom of the front. A typical nuisance is the souring of locks. But in general, the Renault Scenic II body is good and even received 5 out of 5 stars in crash tests in terms of safety.

Inside the cabin- the usual abundance of organized places for storing small things - all kinds of niches, shelves and compartments. The main functions are placed in the center of the dashboard, where the designers have also identified the gearshift lever. On the steering rack there is a hole for a key card and a Start / Stop button that starts the engine.

The rear seats fold down or fold down completely - each separately. Therefore, the car is just a godsend for transporting goods. The middle seat at the back can be folded down to form an armrest for passengers.

Already in the database, the manufacturer offered a rich option: ABS with an assistant, a stability control system, tire pressure sensors. Frontal and side airbags, inflatable curtains for passengers, belts with pretensioners are responsible for safety in the car.

Electrical and electronics

Probably 80% of the complaints and dissatisfaction with the French car industry is related to the device of the car and the electrician. So Renault Scenic II was no exception. In fairness, it should be said that basically the problems are related to the negligent attitude of the owners. But it was not without design flaws.

The owners complain about what, and it's hard to pick something in between. He will say that problems are possible with power windows and an electric handbrake (souring of the wiring), the air conditioning compressor may fail or the cable in the steering column breaks, then the owner sees "check airbag" on the instrument panel. Bulbs of the front dimensions often pour in, and it is almost impossible to change them on your own - again, due to the design features.

But the most serious claims go to keyless entry card(at the slightest deformation - failure of the card reader) and work electronic scoreboard, which replaces the traditional dashboard. Over time, image transmission failures occur, and part replacement is expensive.

Engines and transmission

Renault Scenic 2 is a French-made compact van, sales of which started in 2003. It has decent technical characteristics, comfort, large internal volume, ease of operation and excellent maneuverability.

The car is equipped with modern technologies, for example, it is possible to start the engine with a key card, as well as light and rain sensors, an autonomous parking brake and much more.

Design

The design of the model reveals to us the latest design concept of the Renault manufacturer and resembles the Megane car, on the platform of which the compact MPV is designed.

Renault Scenic has a dynamic and original appearance. Wide headlights, sharp lines of the body, a swift profile, a protruding rear overhang, a sloping flat front end and an almost vertical rear window stand out.

The second generation is longer than the model and slightly lower. The front body part has become more streamlined, the optics have acquired a more interesting shape, the V-shaped radiator grille, and the bumpers are painted completely in the Renault Scenica 2 body color.

Mirrors are equipped on the rack, not on the door. Therefore, when the door is opened, the mirror remains in place. It is very convenient to park with the door open.

Salon

The salon is comfortable and cozy. It doesn't dazzle the imagination, but it has everything you need.

On the dashboard, you can control the main functions of the car. The instruments are made in the form of LCD displays and are located above the tidy, and the buttons are located on the right side of the steering wheel. There is a hole for a key card on the steering column.

The cabin is designed for five adult passengers. Behind, instead of a sofa, there are 3 separate chairs that are mounted on a skid, and passengers seated behind the front seats can use convenient folding tables.

The height adjustment of the driver's seat reaches 70 millimeters. You can adjust the lumbar even in the basic configuration. An excellent view of the road is provided by a large glass area.

You can turn Renault Scenic 2003-2009 into a van by folding the rear seats. There are various storage compartments, for example, drawers under the chairs. Almost every inch of the cabin is used for a variety of little things.

The glove compartment is large, cooled.

For finishing, a wear-resistant fabric is used, which, however, is not very pleasant to the touch.

The volume of the luggage compartment reaches 430 liters. This is enough to put all the necessary things for a long trip. Under the carpet there is a full-size spare tire.

Inside the car, outside noise is almost inaudible. An audio system with 6 speakers provides excellent sound, and the air conditioning system maintains the desired microclimate.

Scenic II engines

Type Volume Power Torque Overclocking Max speed Number of cylinders
Petrol 1.4 l 98 HP 127 H*m 14.3 sec 174 km/h 4
Petrol 1.6 l 115 HP 152 H*m 12.5 sec 185 km/h 4
Petrol 2.0 l 136 HP 191 H*m 10.3 sec 195 km/h 4
Diesel 1.5 l 80 HP 185 H*m 12.4 sec 176 km/h 4
Diesel 1.5 l 100 HP 200 H*m 14.1 sec 172 km/h 4
Diesel 1.9 l 100 HP 200 H*m 9.6 sec 192 km/h 4
Diesel 1.9 l 120 HP 270 H*m 9.6 sec 192 km/h 4

The car is offered with three petrol power units with a volume of 1.4, 1.6 and 2 liters, with a capacity of 80, 115 and 136 “horsepower”, respectively. You can also purchase versions with diesel engines, with a volume of 1.5 and 1.9 liters and a power of 80 and 120 "horses", respectively.

Gasoline engines are better than diesel units and run more stable. The 1.4-liter engine is perfect for drivers who need to drive mainly in the city, low fuel consumption is important. For fans of faster and more dynamic driving, it is best to take the 1.6-liter Renault Scenic. The two-liter unit provides high power and torque, but consumes more fuel.

Together with these internal combustion engines, 5-speed and 6-speed mechanical gearboxes, as well as 4 and 6-speed automatics work. They are characterized by reliability, smoothness, wear resistance and guarantee comfortable driving on any roads.

Suspension and brakes

The chassis is simple - a classic independent suspension "" with an anti-roll bar is installed in front, and a torsion beam is equipped in the rear. Scenic shock absorbers do a good job of their function, however, with frequent driving on poor-quality road surfaces fail after 60,000-70,000 km of run.

The suspension is soft, despite the rear beam, the car rides smoothly and absorbs bumps in the road.

The machine is suitable for operation in Russian conditions, and most of the suspension elements can last a long time.

The car has a front-wheel drive system. The front axles have ventilated brakes, while the rear axles have simple discs without ventilation. Brakes allow you to quickly stop Renault Scenic 2, and electronic assistants retain control in emergency situations.

One of the features of the model is an electromechanical parking brake for a complete stop in the parking lot. To activate it, you need to pull the lever towards you and the car will slow down. You can remove the car from the handbrake automatically by turning on the gear and starting to release the clutch.

Price

In Russia, the car is available in 2 trim levels:

  • Authentique - price 818,000 rubles;
  • Expression - price 967,000 rubles.

Now production has been discontinued, new machines have been released. Therefore, this car is sold exclusively second-hand in the secondary market, where the average price is 350,000 rubles.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the second Scenic include efficiency, price, fairly inexpensive spare parts, a good interior, decent noise isolation and a spacious interior.

The main advantage of the model is engines that are not demanding on the quality of fuel, are suitable for repair and are capable of operating without breakdowns for more than 300,000 kilometers under normal maintenance. The only drawback is the frequent oil leaks that are observed in many motors manufactured in France.

The 5-speed manual transmission performed well, working properly and for a long time. Only with high mileage Renault Scenica can a lubricant leak. It is necessary to monitor the oil level, otherwise the bearings and differential will wear out quickly.

It should also be noted the high level of machine safety. The model received five stars according to the results of the crash test. Even the cheapest version provides electronic stability control, airbags for the driver and passengers.

Owners of the second generation model most often note the following disadvantages:

  • The turbine is prone to breakdowns and often fails prematurely. Problems with the turbine compressor are indicated by a drop in the power of the power unit and blue smoke from the exhaust pipe;
  • The air conditioning system is also among the minuses of the car. Troubles arise after overcoming a hundred thousand kilometers, usually due to jamming of the air conditioning compressor;
  • The timing belt breaks after 600,000 kilometers;
  • There are difficulties with closing the hood lock;
  • The wiring rots due to the fact that moisture penetrates into the machine, especially if you do not clean the drainage system under the hood;
  • Anti-roll bars require replacement already after 15,000-20,000 km.

In addition, among the shortcomings of the model are low ground clearance, unstable operation of electronics, “crickets” in the cabin, and poor paintwork.

More than 10 years have passed since the launch of the second generation Renault Scenic. Despite the years, the car is still very popular. Scenic tempts with an attractive price. For little money, potential buyers receive a functional, comfortable and economical car, which is of no small importance in an era of endless crises. However, as we know from practice, cheap does not mean good. But more on that later.

Renault Scenic 2 is available in two versions. The first - the main one has a length of 430 cm, a width of 181 cm, and a height of 162 cm. The second, Grand Scenic, is a modification extended by 19 cm. The standard model has five seats, and the enlarged Grand has seven. The big advantage of a compact van is the trunk. The capacity of the cargo compartment of the basic version is 430-1840 liters, and the Grand - 535-1960 liters. Renault Scenic is ideal for families. There will be no problems with loading and transporting a large number of purchases or large luggage.

The French manufacturer has provided considerable opportunities for organizing space in the cabin. The compact van has three separate seats on the second row, which can be folded or removed independently of each other. Renault Scenic 2 also has useful additions. For example, a refrigerated glove compartment on the passenger side, which can be extremely useful on hot days, or tables on the backs of the front seats. Child car seats are easily placed in the car, both front and rear. In general, the Renault Scenic interior fully meets the requirements of even the most demanding owners.

Renault Scenic 2 diesel engines, along with electronics, are one of the most significant weaknesses of this car. The most widespread among turbodiesels are 1.5 dCi (82, 105 hp) and 1.9 dCi (120 hp). The advantage of these engines is relatively low fuel consumption. This guarantees extremely economical trips, both in the city and over long distances. Unfortunately, this is their only trump card. The limited durability of diesel engines can lead to significant costs. Most of the problems are delivered by an engine with a smaller volume. A common ailment is associated with the fuel system. Injectors can be damaged by low-quality fuel. Often there are oil leaks due to leaky seals. Sometimes the problems are presented by inserts.

The 1.9 dCi engine provides better performance with relatively low fuel consumption, but it also has reliability problems. The turbocharger requires special attention. Also, additional costs may be required to replace the dual mass flywheel and the EGR valve.

Favorable changes for fans of turbodiesels occurred in 2006 during the restyling of Renault Scenic. 2.0 dCi (150 hp) appeared in the line of engines. This is the best and at the same time the most expensive turbodiesel in its range. But it is rare. This unit is more dynamic, more stable and at the same time economical. It does not cause as much trouble as its counterparts, allowing you to keep the owner's wallet in complete peace.

As for the gasoline versions of Renault Scenic 2, we can distinguish engines with a working volume of 1.4 liters with a capacity of 98 hp, 1.6 liters of 113 hp, 2.0 liters of 136 hp. and 2.0T (165 hp). All of them are significantly more reliable than diesel engines. The 1.4-liter unit is suitable for calm drivers who value efficiency and move mainly around the city. For those who prefer a more dynamic ride, the choice should start with a 1.6-liter engine. Despite the fact that this engine is better and burns about the same amount of fuel, it has its weaknesses. Owners have to deal with failures of the variable valve timing system. A large power reserve is provided by 2.0 and 2.0T engines. True, they are more gluttonous. Given the good dynamics and high level of reliability, you can turn a blind eye to higher fuel consumption.

Paired with engines, 5 and 6-speed manual gearboxes and 4- and 6-speed automatic transmissions were used. They get along quite well with the power units.

Renault Scenic 2 suspension settings can be described as quite soft. Owners often complain about the rapid wear of the McPherson front strut support bearings. Inexpensive elements such as bushings and anti-roll bars, steering tips also spoil the picture. Brake pads and discs wear out quite quickly. The steering rack and booster pump are not reliable.

Electronics is one of the main drawbacks of Renault Scenic. The most common example is the keyless entry system. System malfunctions limit access to the passenger compartment or exclude starting the engine. Typical malfunctions also include problems with windshield wipers, electric windows and mirrors. Over time, the fuel gauge begins to function incorrectly. The display of the instrument panel also periodically fails. The optional tire pressure sensors fail pretty quickly.

Renault Scenic 2 may not appeal to particularly demanding motorists. Despite numerous minor faults, it leaves a pleasant mark on the soul, thanks to its pleasant design and high level of comfort. Compact van is designed for people who know the price of practicality and economy.
