Five things people love and hate about the Volkswagen Polo. Cons Polo sedan Polo owner reviews all cons

A solid high-quality car of the Volkswagen corporation has never been cheap, therefore it is not in great demand on the Russian market. The new Volkswagen Polo sedan, which appeared in 2010, was intended for the development of the post-Soviet space.

This is a specially designed class B sedan built on the Volkswagen Polo platform. He is going to Kaluga.

Vehicle Description

The new car was lengthened by more than 400 mm, thereby increasing the space for rear passengers. They stretched the wheelbase by 80 mm, changed the bumper, fog lenses and the outlines of the headlights. A large luggage compartment (460 liters) increases if you lower the back of the rear sofa.

The model has three options. The cheapest Trendline had a minimum of equipment and stamped rims, but over time it was supplemented with security systems. The middle option is the Comfortline with heated seats and anti-lock braking system. Air conditioning, audio system and alloy wheels are installed on the Highline version. All other equipment can be purchased for a fee. Gets a different character "Volkswagen Polo" sedan owner reviews.

The year 2013 was marked by the fact that a small batch of cars of the Comfortline version of the Volkswagen Polo, the Sochi Edition sedan, dedicated to the Sochi Olympics, appeared.

The car was produced in three colors, with Olympic symbols, light-alloy wheels, leather-trimmed steering wheel and control levers, chrome-plated parts in the cabin, electrically heated windshield and radio.

The model is equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with four cylinders for all versions, which develops a maximum power of just over one hundred hp. But the gearbox can be a five-speed manual or automatic with six gears.

Build quality of the Volkswagen Polo sedan

Owner reviews often begin with doubts about the choice. The car seems to be German, but the assembly is Russian. But later on, no one talks about the flaws of the installation. There is nothing to be surprised here. Volkswagen Corporation is very meticulous about the quality of products under its brand, wherever they are made. Western manufacturers always pay serious attention to their own image and reputation.

In addition, almost half of the parts and assemblies are supplied to Kaluga from Europe, and robots, again, from well-known European manufacturers, are used in production to perform precision welding.

Only Russian-made Kama tires, which are installed on the Volkswagen Polo sedan, seriously let down. The reviews of the owners and the comments of experts on this issue are unanimous - they must be changed, and best of all immediately at the dealer.

Vehicle interior

To reduce the cost of a sedan, plastic and upholstery material was used inexpensive, which, however, does not mean at all that it is of low quality. Quality factor is the main characteristic of the interior trim of the Volkswagen Polo sedan. Owner reviews with photos clearly show a well-preserved finish and after several years of operation, and not always careful.

Drivers also note ample space inside the cabin, wide backs of the front seats, adjustable driver's seat and steering column. Moreover, the column can change position both in terms of reach and inclination, which is not found in budget cars.

Pleasant little things complement the positive impressions of the owners: there are roomy wide pockets on the front doors; there is a folding bottle holder on the back sofa; multifunctional glove box, where even coin holders are provided.

Drivers consider the front armrest on the version of the car with a manual transmission to be a minus of the interior design. In different positions, it interferes with shifting gears or working with the handbrake.

And another drawback - the angle of the A-pillar reduces visibility, especially in rainy weather.

Sedan dashboard

The savings also affected the dashboard of the Volkswagen Polo sedan. Owner reviews note the small size of the on-board computer screen, which displays a lot of information. However, the display is quite contrasting, and in any lighting the numbers are read without much stress.

The dashboard itself is concise and not cluttered with appliances. Criticisms are expressed by drivers about the thin steering wheel rim and the outdated air conditioning control system, although these points may well depend on the desire to reduce the cost of the car.

Drivers also note as a positive moment the power supply to the USB input when the engine is turned off.

Owners of versions with an audio system note the high sound quality and many of its useful features. A serious disadvantage of the audio system is that it does not understand Cyrillic.

Trunk

There is nothing outstanding in the trunk of a Volkswagen Polo sedan. Owner reviews do not mark it as a big plus for the car: for a sedan, this is quite common. It is inconvenient only to fold the back of the rear sofa in the basic configuration, you have to press the buttons on both sides with both hands. In the other two versions, the impossibility of laying down the back without first removing the rear seat is considered a drawback.

There is one more nuance - the trunk loops eat up part of the volume. This must be taken into account if there is a need to load, which is called to the eyeballs.

👉 new Volkswagen Polo sedan (Volkswagen Polo)👈: review, reviews of real owners, specifications, prices and equipment of the first generation cars of 2015-2018, we discuss the disadvantages and disadvantages of the new Volkswagen sedan.

Brief overview, price and photo

Volkswagen Polo first generation sedan

Volkswagen Polo sedan in 2015 has undergone restyling. The changes are only cosmetic. The restyling version is based on the same PQ25 platform. On the same platform, VAG produces the Seat Toledo and Skoda Rapid. If in Russia it is Volksvagen Polo, then for Malaysia and India it is Volksvagen Vento. For Russia, the Volkswagen Polo sedan is assembled in Kaluga, cars are assembled here only for the domestic market. Polo sedan is available with three motors. Two atmospheric gasoline 16-valve 1.4 (90 hp) MPI EA211 and 1.6 (110 hp) MPI EA211, which are also assembled in Kaluga. For the Highline and GT trim levels, a 1.4 (125) TSI turbocharged gasoline engine is available. Gearboxes for budget trim levels or 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. For the Highline and GT trims, a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic are available. On the Volkswagen Polo sedan, the manufacturer gives an unlimited mileage warranty for the first two years and a 100,000 km limit for the third year.

Characteristics. Volkswagen Polo sedan dimensions: length - 4390 mm, width - 1699 mm, height - 1467 mm, wheelbase - 2552 mm, ground clearance - 163 mm. The trunk volume is 460 liters, and the gas tank is 55 liters. Front brakes disc, rear depending on the engine: for 1.4 MPI - drum, for 1.6 MPI and 1.4 TSI - disc. The power steering is electric. The front suspension is independent MacPherson type, the rear suspension is semi-independent spring. Tire sizes: 175/70 R14 (84T), 185/60 R15 (84T), 195/55 R15 (85T). Curb Volkswagen Polo sedan: 1163 - 1291 kg, and the maximum allowable - 1700-1740 kg, depending on the configuration. The average real fuel consumption of the Volkswagen Polo is: 10.2 (city) ▫ 5.8 (highway) ▫ 9.1 (combined) l/100km. Gasoline ⛽: minimum AI-95. Passport acceleration time to 100 km / h: from 9.0 s to 11.2 s, depending on the engine and gearbox.

Safety. An airbag for the driver and front passenger, as well as a 3rd head restraint, is already standard. The ESP stabilization system is available in the Highline and GT trim levels (only with a 7-speed automatic). For other trim levels, it is available in the additional Security package for 40,000 rubles. The same package includes front side airbags. Heated windshield is only available on Highline and GT trim levels. According to the ARCAP crash test, the Volkswagen Polo sedan scored 14.1 points out of 16 possible. European crash tests Polo sedan has not been conducted. It makes no sense to watch the crash test results of the European Volkswagen Polo hatchback. This is a different car with different equipment.

Hello everyone, I bought myself a polik 2017 for driving to work. The automatic transmission is annoying to the cold when switching the foam, it slows down strongly when coasting, and when you press the pedal again, the foam again. Dealers say everything is OK (((

I bought myself a Volkswagen Polo sedan in the Comfortline configuration with the Safety package (ESP and side airbags). About sensations: the engine and suspension are quiet. I did not like the assembly - there are not even gaps everywhere, the plastic is hard and budget. There is only one bulb in the cabin. Dear consumables and maintenance. The driver's seat cushion is short. Esp on Polo - switchable.

Many motorists believe that the disadvantages of the Volkswagen Polo sedan are fiction. It simply cannot be that a German car is not perfect in any aspect. After all, everything that is done in Germany is always famous for its high quality.

This applies not only to cars manufactured by Volkswagen, but also cars from BMW, AUDI, Mercedes-Benz. However, picky drivers can always find in any car, even German, a few shortcomings.

The disadvantages of the Volkswagen Polo sedan are not fiction, they really exist. However, do not forget that the car is not too expensive, so you should not expect too much from it (although compared to our VAZs, this is a really cool car).

car body

The German model received enlarged wheel arches from engineers. As for the rear of the car, it received a fairly simple bumper, and marker lights were located along the edges. In the production process, metal is used, which is galvanized on 2 sides. To this it is worth adding also anti-corrosion treatment, which allows you to give 12 year warranty.

Russian owners claim that after two winters, the paintwork looks good, there are not even minor scratches. No scratches or chips can be found.

But there are no perfect cars, right? The body of a budget German car has several design flaws.

Sedan's Biggest Problems

Firstly, the rear spring supports are set quite low.

Secondly, the handbrake cables were not laid under the bottom as they should.

Thirdly, it is necessary to pay attention that the engine does not have metal protection from below.

Fourth, the side mirrors are small, have a low view. Be sure to say about the poor design of the wipers. Yes, and a real 12-centimeter clearance (full load; in normal condition - 170 mm.) For Russian roads - this is clearly not the best solution.

As for other aspects that are related to the body, everything is in order here. However, body parts are quite expensive if they have to be changed after an accident. Here are approximate prices for original parts, spare parts:

  • 2.800 rub. for the rear light;
  • 4.500 rub. for the front wing;
  • 8.000 rub. for the bumper
  • 11.500 rub. for the hood.

The obvious disadvantage of this model is weak low beam(see article ""). This can become a serious problem while driving. In addition, there is no washer indicator, so the owner has to take a bottle. Drivers note that the Polo Sedan heats up for a long time, and the suspension is somewhat harsh (although the latter opinion is very subjective).

Let's look inside

There is enough space in the cabin, three can comfortably sit on the second row. Although there is enough space above the head, as well as for legs, the high tunnel will interfere a little with the one who sits in the center. When finishing, not the most expensive materials were used.

When you get into the car, you involuntarily notice powerful rapids. When leaving it, you must be careful, otherwise you can easily get dirty on it.

To interior assembly several claims can be made. You should start with the fact that the basic equipment came out poor. There are no buttons on the driver's door that would control the power windows located at the rear. When finishing the interior, loud hard plastic was used.

According to the criterion of profitability of the purchase.

However, other cars, such as Kia Rio, Hyundai Solaris, Lada Granta, Lada Vesta and our today's participant, Volkswagen Polo, are much more often in the top 5 Russian sales. Yes, he is inferior to the “Koreans” and “Russians” in popularity, but he, along with Grant, has not changed a generation since his appearance, or even undergone a serious facelift. Is it really that good?

Hate #5: Squealing Brakes

In fact, the Volkswagen Polo is that rare case when the car gives the owner almost no reason for downright hatred. It is very balanced, and even being a representative of the budget segment, it remains one of its best representatives - and remains "German". However, something can still cause slight irritation of the owner. For example, the squeak of the rear drum brake pads. The defect appears infrequently and, as a rule, in the morning, at the moment of the first pulling away - after several braking, the unpleasant sound disappears.

Love #5: good dynamics

In the range of engines, the Polo has a pair of 1.6-liter MPI engines developing 90 and 110 hp, and a 1.4-liter TSI with 125 hp. This motor stands apart - it is aggregated with a 7-speed DSG, which we will talk about a little later, and is offered only for the "fancy" Highline and GT versions. And the most popular engine of the motor range is 110 horsepower, which can be ordered both with a 5-speed manual gearbox and with a 6-speed "automatic".

Yes, both options noticeably lose in dynamics to the union of TSI and DSG (with it, Polo accelerates to hundreds in exactly 9 seconds), but a huge number of owners also call the usual 110-horsepower sedan “frisky”, “responsive” and “fast”, and they praise both “mechanics” with clear, convenient shifts, as well as a rather quick and 6-speed automatic transmission. And it doesn't matter that the acceleration figures in both cases are over 11 seconds.

Hate #4: Poor dust and noise insulation in the engine compartment

One of the few weaknesses of the Polo is where, despite all the German "ordnung", the budget of the car still manifests itself. The pre-styling Polo had the most popular 105-horsepower 1.6-liter MPI engine, and it had a timing chain drive, which is great, but it affected the noise level. The current 1.6-liter 110-horsepower MPI has a timing belt drive, but the sound insulation of the engine compartment, according to a fair amount of owners, is still “low”, “weak” and even “none”, and therefore one often has to read about the improvement engine compartment "Shumka" at their own expense. And if the engine compartment emits noise outside, then it absorbs dust and dirt - and here Polo did not escape the typical ailment for "state employees": the sealing of the joint between the edge of the hood and the radiator grille is insufficient, as a result of which dirt flies to the stop and the hood opening lever. And in general, the engine compartment gets dirty pretty quickly.

Love # 4: dense and reliable suspension

The suspension was one of the points that Polo once conquered the Russian buyer - that's it, it just created the feeling of a car a class higher. And after all, there are no revelations - MacPherson in front, a semi-dependent beam in the back, everything is just calculated correctly and made from good components. Many compared this suspension to the Renault Logan, but the Volkswagen rolls less and allows you to feel a little more confident in corners. The suspension is close to the golden mean - and the handling is at a height, and you can get through the country road without fear for the spine. But still, Polo, even in adaptation for Russia, is a car for at least some, but expensive. And the smoother they are, the better he feels.

Hate #3: Insufficient ground clearance

The ground clearance of the Volkswagen Polo is only 163 mm, and this is in the version for the Russian Federation, European hatchbacks are much lower. Add impressive overhangs here, and you will understand the fears of the owners - not every Polo curb is ready to pass under it when parking. In the age of raised “SUVs”, a well-deserved sedan has a hard time in this field. ?

Love # 3: high profitability

This reason for love is in continuation of the conversation about the 110-horsepower engine. Both of its combinations, both with a 5-speed manual gearbox and with a 6-speed automatic transmission, turned out to be very successful - both in terms of good traction from the very bottom, and in terms of economy. And not "according to the passport", but according to the real observations of the owners. So, on cars with an "automatic" it is quite possible to get a city consumption of 8-9 liters per hundred kilometers, and on cars with mechanics - about 6-7 liters. And no dieselgates!

Hate #2: Weak paintwork

Almost every third owner complains about the quality of the paintwork of his Volkswagen Polo. Already after six months or a year of ownership, many have a large number of chips. And it is hardly possible to attribute everything to the negligence of motorists - most of them have changed more than one car, and they have something to compare with. If you take Polo, keep in mind: its paintwork requires careful handling and care, the most caring owners polish it once a year. Plus, chips often appear on the windshield of a sedan ... Polo does not like bad roads, whatever you say.

Love #2: good handling

We already touched on the handling of the Polo when we talked about the suspension, but it's not just about it. The steering of the sedan itself is set up well, and in particular the electric power steering is good. Fine-tuning it is additional, and rather high costs for testing prototypes, and Volkswagen went to them when fine-tuning the Polo. And as a result, they received positive feedback from the owners: Polo retains predictable behavior even at high speeds and even on standard, not too expensive Kama brand tires.

Hate #1: Loss of traction on DSG versions

We repeat, versions with DSG are far from the most popular among owners of Polo sedans (up to a certain point, this rather expensive transmission was not put on the state employees at all), but the problem received a very wide resonance in order to bypass it. A few years ago, 7-speed DSGs - the kind that are now installed on the Polo GT sedans - began to show a sudden loss of traction, and at the most inopportune moment - during hard acceleration. We emphasize that for all boxes produced before January 1, 2014, the company has extended an extended five-year warranty, and boxes of a later release have already been significantly improved. However, distrust of them remains - one initiative group even calls for a lifetime warranty on 7-speed DSGs. Fortunately, the modest Polo has other transmission options. Although we admit: provided there are no “bugs”, DSG is a cool option.

In the photo: Volkswagen Polo GT Sedan "2016–present.

Love #1: Ergonomics of the driver's seat

Definitely, for this, a small "folk" sedan is loved the most. The Germans managed to achieve at a relatively low price the exemplary comfort of the front seats, the sufficiency of adjustments, good accessibility to all areas important for the driver and the high-quality assembly of the interior, which remains quiet over the years ... In this environment, even such things that are common for many current state employees are accepted to praise - and the trunk large (far from a record 460 liters), and glass heating works great (it quickly defrosts the ice crust, but so what?), and so on and so forth ... In a word, it is cozy in it. Despite the rather cheap and hard plastic, which in other cars everyone strives to immediately feel and scold.

And in general, the Polo has enough minuses from among those that happen to everyone: assembly flaws come across, and the keys sink, and the lights are on, and the limit switches break, and the steering tips “run out” ... But what about the fact that more -less normally equipped configurations cost globally more than, say, comparable? You say, "two big differences"? But many do not think so and choose Vesta, not Polo. Every month there are about 2,500 more of them than those who are ready to put up with the prices of the "German" ...

But for the owners of the Polo sedan, these moments “dissolve” in a very high level of design, assembly and consumer qualities of this car. Paradoxically, many praise its appearance. Yes, yes, a rather conservative-looking sedan in Russia is considered beautiful by many. But those were the most outstanding inexpensive cars in history, and such was the first "people's car", the Volkswagen Käfer - its beauty came from functionality.

It's great that despite the "dieselgate" and problems with the DSG, Volkswagen still has good traditions to be proud of. Traditions that work.

One of the "chronic diseases" of the Polo sedan is a knock in the front of the car when driving through various bumps in the roads. The reason is that the gearbox support is made for some reason with an insert made of plastic, and not rubber. You can get rid of this knock: either by installing a rubber gasket under the support, or by replacing this support with a normal modification (they will help you pick it up in the parts store). Cons polo sedan

Another noise from under the hood is the rattling of the mudguard (or protection) of the engine. Their mounts loosen quite quickly, already in the first thousand runs. The problem is easily solved: it is enough to install a lock washer on each bolt and tighten it well.

The next trouble is problems with the power steering (EUR). It happens that the car sometimes "pulls" to the side. Fortunately, the official dealer eliminates this defect by flashing the “brains” of the electric power steering. After this procedure, the EUR works flawlessly.

Often, especially in the cold season, Polo sedan owners are frightened by a clicking sound after starting the engine. It's the hydraulic lifters. This is normal for a cold engine. But if this noise persists after the engine reaches operating temperature and for a long time, you need to go to the service. By the way, "hydrics" knock on many engines (of course, on cold ones).

The rear suspension of the Polo sedan is rather weak. At the maximum load of the car, once in the hole, the shock absorbers are compressed to the bumpers. You should drive more carefully in such cases. As for the front suspension, this was not observed here.

Of the "electricians", frequent problems are the breakdown of the throttle sensor (more precisely, damage to its wiring) and the failure of the power windows (it happens when the battery is disconnected from the on-board network). The latter is "treated" by turning the ignition on and off with the key pulled out, but it does not always help.
