Skoda Octavia has been the most popular model in its class on the Russian market for several years. But most of the cars sold are copies in simple trim levels with a 1.6 atmospheric engine, mechanics or automatic.

This time we had a "unique" version in our hands. This, in the opinion of the Skodovites themselves, will account for only 2-3% of sales. Although you can't really tell from the outside...

The same Octavia that actively travels on the roads of millionaires, albeit in a rich configuration. Completely normal and unremarkable. The real reason for the purchase is the stronger DSG-6 and the somewhat increased versatility once the car can feel more confident on how many surfaces and light off-road. The Skoda Octavia A7 station wagon is a real old-timer of the brand's lineup. The first versions of the model with all-wheel drive appeared in 1999, a year before the first restyling. The Skoda Octavia station wagon first appeared with all-wheel drive in 2000 and has the designation Octavia Combi 4 × 4. Later, several diesel versions appeared. Unlike the front-wheel drive version, the Skoda Octavia 4×4 combi version has several key features that distinguish the all-terrain wagon both externally and internally.

First of all, the exterior of the car has a different look. Here you can note the tuning package, which aims to protect the off-road vehicle from bumps and damage when passing off-road.

Thresholds are protected in the form of overlays made of reinforced plastic. With such protection, it will be possible to avoid not only scratches, but also significant dents, which can often be found in modern crossovers.

Arches received similar protection. This type of tuning, according to the manufacturer, will allow the station wagon with all-wheel drive to avoid significant damage and corrosion.

Of course, the advent of all-wheel drive is accompanied by some suspension changes. She received reinforced elements, which for the regular version of the station wagon are supplied with the “Bad Road Package”. Thanks to the design nuances of the new system, the ground clearance was increased by 3 centimeters, even on versions with a diesel engine.

Octavia Combi 4 × 4 is recognizable by some external designations. So, on the trunk lid of the "combi" you can see the characteristic Scout inscription. The most famous version of Skoda with all-wheel drive is a car built on the basis of the A7 and not having the ability to install a diesel engine. The RS version is based on the liftback, which has been produced since 2013. The PC has several unique features that make it instantly stand out from the rest of the lineup.

As for the appearance, the color scheme of the model is somewhat different. The PC version can be found both in a bright blue version and in a snow-white shade. On the radiator grill, which has a slightly different shape, there is a corresponding inscription. In addition, it can sometimes be found on the side of the body and doors in the form of stickers and markings. The rear of the Octavia RS 4x4 is equipped with a chrome trim that also defines the sporty version.

The interior of the Octavia RS 4×4 also has several key features. So, the steering wheel has a sporty design, and the front seats have more rigid lateral support. The PC suspension is reinforced for longer life and greater reliability.

Diesel is not available for the PC version. Instead, a two-liter gasoline unit with a capacity of 220 horsepower was developed for the Skoda Octavia. Such a motor is not available for any other modification of the A7. The PC engine has increased fuel consumption, which has a predominantly 98 octane rating. Instead, the buyer receives a car that has improved dynamic performance and acceleration performance.

The gearbox offered for the Octavia RS 4×4 also has a special design. This version is the only one for modification of the PC. The unit has a robotic type and has a two-clutch system. This solution contributes to a more reliable integration of the engine with the gearbox, while carrying out faster gear changes.

Another version that has a sporty twist is the Skoda Octavia Scout Revo 4x4. This version is extremely rare, and for the most part it is used in international sports competitions.

The technical stuffing that is installed on this car is similar to that found on the PC version, and diesel is also not available here. The fifth generation all-wheel drive system works in automatic mode and is installed on the Skoda Octavia Scout Revo 4x4 in serial order.

Principle of operation

At the moment, all sports modifications of the Skoda Octavia are equipped with a fifth-generation all-wheel drive system, conditionally named by the manufacturer 4motion. It is based on the Haldex clutch, which takes over the function of distributing torque between the front and rear axles.

The intelligence of the clutch operates in such a way as to constantly provide a small percentage of torque to the rear axle, which gives the manufacturer the right to call such a system of constant principle.

During sharp acceleration, the torque is distributed equally between the axles, thereby eliminating slipping on wet pavement and loss of power. What's more, the clutch is fully integrated with the stability control systems and reacts instantly to the slightest changes in speed.

The fifth generation of the clutch does not have significant design differences from its predecessor. All the efforts of the designers in its design were put into lightening the mass of parts and minimizing the amount of hydraulics.

The principle of operation of the system is based on the fact that at a certain moment the pump begins to supply high-pressure oil to the channels. Due to this, the driving and driven parts of the mechanism fit snugly against each other, and the rear axle is connected in a certain proportion. In this regard, there is a major drawback of such a system. The high-pressure pump burns out when the oil is not changed in time, and the high-pressure channels can leak and lose their tightness.

Skoda Octavia in versions with all-wheel drive - technological and powerful cars. However, the 4motion system is imperfect and not without flaws. However, practice shows that the systems of the latest generations do not have the same shortcomings as their predecessors, and work better and more stable with each version.

The Czech giant recently completely updated the entire family of cars. The path of the third-generation Czech all-terrain station wagon to Russia turned out to be quite a long one ... First there was the spring world premiere of 2014 in Geneva, later the all-terrain wagon looked at the Moscow International Motor Show, and only in October, finally, official sales started in our country.

The price of the Octavia Scout 2015 model year in Russia turned out to be slightly higher than expected, but not so much as to scare off potential buyers, since the advantages of this car were quite consistent with the money requested for them.

By the third decade of December 2016, a restyled “off-road vehicle” arrived in time, which completed the renewal program for the entire Octavia family, which stretched over three stages.

The car has undergone almost the same metamorphoses as the standard model - it has changed "in the face" due to the "four-eyed" optics, received new versions (albeit "not for Russia") and was "equipped" with previously inaccessible equipment.

The second incarnation of the "Czech Scout" is larger than its predecessor and much more aggressive in terms of design. The exterior is based on the contours of the base station wagon of the third generation, but a stylish off-road plastic body kit with reinforced bumpers, special wheel design, increased ground clearance and “Scout” nameplates make it easy to distinguish the all-wheel drive station wagon from the city version.

The body of the novelty consists of almost 70% high-strength steel and a certain proportion of ultra-high-strength steel, which made it possible to reduce the weight of the car relative to its predecessor by an average of 27-30 kg. A notable step forward was also noted in terms of aerodynamics, and this is a direct contribution to reducing fuel consumption and improving acoustic comfort in the cabin.

As for the dimensions, the length of the “second” Octavia Scout is 4685 mm, the wheelbase is 2679 mm, the width of the body does not exceed 1814 mm, and the height rests on the mark of 1531 mm. The ground clearance (ground clearance) of the "all-terrain" station wagon is 171 mm.

The interior of this modification is almost identical, in terms of design, to the interior of the regular version of the 3rd generation Octavia, but more expensive materials are used in its decoration in several combinations. In addition, multiple "Scout" inscriptions are distributed throughout the interior, harmoniously fitting into it and reminiscent of the "off-road" nature of the car, and the pedals are equipped with stylish metal linings with rubber anti-slip inserts.

The interior of the car is very ergonomic, spacious, and on both rows of seats, and is complemented by a spacious trunk with a transformable double floor, a set of fasteners, a double-sided mat and a comfortable loading height.

The minimum boot volume is 588 liters (610 liters without a spare wheel), but with the second row of seats folded down, it increases to 1718 liters (1740 liters without a spare wheel). We also note that with the front passenger seat folded down, it becomes possible to transport long lengths of almost 3 meters.

Specifications. Russian owners of a cross-country station wagon will have to be content with only one version of the power plant. For this role, the Czech manufacturer chose a 4-cylinder in-line gasoline unit with a displacement of 1.8 liters (1798 cm³). The engine fully complies with the Euro-6 environmental standard, and the list of its equipment includes a 16-valve timing, direct fuel injection, a variable valve timing system, a Start / Stop system and a turbocharger, which together allows you to develop 180 "horses" of maximum power at 5100 - 6000 rpm. As for the torque, at the peak, reached at 1350 - 4500 rpm, it rests on the mark of 280 Nm, making it possible to accelerate the station wagon from 0 to 100 km / h in an acceptable 7.8 seconds, and this is without activating the “Sport” mode. ". Well, the upper speed threshold is marked with a mark of 216 km / h.

The Czechs also did not provide a choice of gearboxes - the only engine is paired with the only 6-speed DSG “robot” with two clutches, which makes it possible to achieve a very reasonable AI-95 fuel consumption of 6.9 liters in a combined cycle of operation. Of the disadvantages of the gearbox, we note the “classic” desire to quickly shift to a higher gear, which often leads to a delay in switching when the accelerator is actively used, so for aggressive driving it is better to use the “Sport” mode, in which these “flaws” are not so noticeable.

The "second station wagon Octavia Scout" was built on the basis of a slightly modernized VW MQB platform. The front of the body rests on a standard MacPherson strut independent suspension, while the rear is supported by an independent multi-link design. Unlike the European version, the Russian version is equipped with more energy-intensive shock absorbers and a special “for bad roads” package, which includes, among other things, engine crankcase protection.
The wheels of the front axle of the car have ventilated disc brakes, the rear wheels have simple disc brakes. The rack and pinion steering mechanism demonstrates an electromechanical amplifier as an assistant. We also note that already in the base of the five-door it is equipped with ABS + EBD, BAS, ESP systems and uphill assistance technology.

As stated at the outset, the Octavia Scout is a station wagon with a 5th generation Haldex clutch-based all-wheel drive system, complete with Electronic Simulated Differential Lock (EDL). The system is capable of transmitting up to 90% of traction to the rear axle, as well as redistributing the moment between the wheels of the rear axle (up to 85% per wheel), which guarantees good cross-country ability on light off-road and excellent stability on wet or icy asphalt roads. In this regard, the Scout modification is as close as possible to crossovers, which will surely “spoil your nerves” in our market.

Options and prices. In Russia, the “refreshed” 2017 Skoda Octavia Scout is sold in one configuration, which is estimated at 1,962,000 rubles.
