New range rover velar specifications. Overview of the new Range Rover Velar SUV from Land Rover

30.10.2019

The Range Rover Velar is a premium mid-size SUV that sits between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport in the British Land Rover range… The car is positioned as a “full off-road vehicle” that “can go where others fail” and its target audience – people who want to get something new, but also to acquire the “true spirit of Range Rovers” ™.

The world premiere of the luxury SUV took place on March 1, 2017 (at a special event at the London Design Museum) - he dressed in the “family” style of the premium brand, received an innovative but extremely recognizable interior, settled on a modern “trolley” (familiar from the Jaguar F- Pace) and "equipped" with a huge number of modern "bells and whistles" ... and in October 2017 he reached the Russian market.

In May 2018, the British prepared the first (albeit small) package of updates for the off-road vehicle - they expanded the list of modifications by adding one petrol and one diesel engine, increased the fuel tank capacity to 82 liters (though only on petrol versions) and revised the list of standard equipment .

On the outside, the Velar is a true Range Rover, but perhaps the most elegant of the family. The “front” part of the crossover flaunts strict and powerful forms with a predatory “squint” of the headlights and an expressive radiator grille, and its stern is distinguished by its athletic build with sophisticated lamps and a massive bumper, into which trapezoidal exhaust pipes are built.

The silhouette of the car attracts attention with energetic and well-cut outlines - with a long hood, low roof, littered windshield and rear windows and graceful sidewalls, in which door handles are recessed.

The Vilar is a mid-size SUV that measures 4803mm long, 2145mm wide (2032mm with folded exterior mirrors), 1657mm to 1705mm high and has a wheelbase of 2874mm.

With a spring suspension, the “British” rises above the roadway by 213 mm, and with a pneumatic one - by 205 mm (but when picking up speed, it “squats” by 10 mm, and off-road it “rises” up to 271 mm).

Inside, the Range Rover Velar meets the traditional (for British SUVs) architecture, which makes it look elegant, beautiful and concise, but touch technologies reign in it - the center console is occupied by two capacitive screens with a diagonal of 10 inches each, which are adjacent to: the physical "washer" of the gearbox and three "flywheels" of secondary functions. Another 12.3-inch display is located behind a solid four-spoke “steering wheel” that replaces the dashboard (although in the base in its place are analog dials).

The interior of the SUV is finished with high-quality materials, including not only premium leather and aluminum, but also premium Kvadrat fabric.

The front seats of Vilara have a well-thought-out profile with distinct sidewalls, exhaustive ranges of electric adjustments, heating and optimal stiffness of the filler. The rear sofa is able to accommodate three passengers in terms of free space, but its shape clearly hints that only two will be most comfortable here.

With a five-seater layout, the trunk volume of the “British” is 558 liters. The second row of seats, divided into three sections in a ratio of "40:20:40", fits into a completely flat area and brings the cargo space to 1731 liters. In the underfloor container of the car there is a spare wheel of reduced dimensions and a set of tools.

The Range Rover Velar power palette combines five engines that are mated exclusively to ZF's 8-speed "robot" and all-wheel drive:

  • Initial petrol variant ( P250) - four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged Ingenium engine with intelligent continuous valve control, direct injection, dual variable valve timing and 16 valves, delivering 250 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 365 Nm of peak thrust at 1200-4500 rpm /minute.
  • Its more powerful “brother” is a 3.0-liter V-shaped “six” with a direct-injection turbocharger, dual variable valve timing technology and a dual balancer shaft system, which is announced in two boost options:
    • on version P340 it generates 340 hp. at 6500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm;
    • and on P380- 380 hp at 6500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque potential at 4500 rpm.
  • The diesel range is opened by a 2.0-liter in-line "four" ( D180) with direct "feed" technology, "smart" cooling system, 16-valve layout and variable geometry turbocharger, producing 180 hp. at 4000 rpm and 430 Nm of potential limit at 1750-2500 rpm.
  • It is followed in the hierarchy by the same unit, but equipped with a twin turbo, thanks to which it produces 240 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 500 Nm of thrust output at 1500 rpm ( D240).
  • The "top-end" diesel is a 3.0-liter V6 engine with direct injection, a twin parallel-sequential turbocharging system, 24 valves and a two-stage oil pump, provided in two versions:
    • on modification D275 its potential is 275 hp. at 4000 rpm and 625 Nm of torque at 1500-1750 rpm;
    • and on D300- 300 hp at 4000 rpm and 700 Nm of available recoil at 1500-1750 rpm.

Vilar has an all-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate hydraulic clutch and a chain drive in the front wheel drive. By default, the entire thrust reserve is supplied to the rear, however, if necessary, it can be fully redirected to the front. Versions with six-cylinder engines are also equipped as standard with an electronically controlled rear cross-axle differential lock.

With “driving” disciplines, the crossover is in full order: it breaks down to the first “hundred” in 5.7-8.9 seconds, and accelerates to a maximum of 209-250 km / h. Diesel modifications of the car "destroy" no more than 5.4-6.4 liters of fuel in the combined cycle, and gasoline - from 7.6 to 9.4 liters.
But the “British” does not save on off-road either: with a spring suspension, the angles of entry and exit are 24.5 and 26.5 degrees, and the depth of the ford to be overcome reaches 600 mm (with a pneumatic chassis, these figures are 24.3 and 26.3 degrees and 650 mm, respectively).

At the heart of the Range Rover Velar is the aluminum IQ platform, and its body structure is more than 80% winged metal. Front and rear, the car has independent suspensions - "double-lever" and "multi-link", respectively. By default, it "flaunts" electronically controlled shock absorbers with variable stiffness, and for an extra charge it can also be equipped with an air suspension with adjustable ride height.
For steering "responsible" rack with variable tooth pitch and adaptive electric power steering. All five-door wheels accommodate ventilated disc brakes, complemented by ABS, EBD, BA and other assistance electronics.

Vilar is offered to Russian customers in the Base, S, SE, R-Dynamic, R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE, R-Dynamic HSE and First Edition versions "(but the updated cars of the" 2019 model year "will be on sale only in August 2018).

For the starting kit, dealers ask from 3,880,000 rubles, and its equipment includes: six airbags, two 10-inch touch screens, LED optics, keyless entry to the salon, 18-inch wheels, rear parking sensors, ABS, ESP, system adaptations to road conditions, a two-zone “climate” and a huge number of other “gadgets”.

The "top" option costs a minimum of 7,178,000 rubles. Among its privileges are an electric trunk lid, adaptive cruise, air suspension, parking assistance, panoramic cameras, a digital instrument cluster, 21-inch rollers, lane keeping technology and a bunch of other modern “chips”.

Representatives of the Land Rover company from the UK have already shown their fans the updated Range Rover Velar 2017-2018 crossover in a new body (prices, equipment, specifications, photos, videos and test drive).

Already at the very beginning of March, everyone could see with their own eyes that this new product will be a worthy competitor to such bestsellers as the MW X4 and Porsche Macan. This Briton will definitely find his fans.

The appearance of the Range Rover Velar 2017-2018 in a new body (photo)

Appearance, as always, this company turned out to be impeccable. There are both modern details and elements that are inherent only in premium segment cars. At the front, there is a classic radiator grille for the brand. Head lighting works on LED-elements and, at the same time, it is matrix. The highlight of the “nose” of the crossover was the running lights of an unusual shape, which “fit” well into the massive plastic bumper.

On the side, noticeable wide wheel arches, which are designed for high-quality casting with a diameter of 22 inches. Representatives of the company should pay special attention to the strong slope of the windshield. This move was not made by accident. Thanks to this angle, the best drag coefficient is achieved while riding.

The rear part is decorated with original position lamps with 3-D lighting function. Trapezoidal tailpipe tips, although Land Rover has been using this shape for a long time.

Interior Range Rover Velar 2017-2018 (photo)

Inside the car, as usual, it is very cozy and modern. It's immediately noticeable how much detail has been worked out to create the maximum level of comfort. There are no more standard buttons and toggle switches in the cabin. Absolutely all systems will now be controlled using touch screens.

There are no buttons even on the steering wheel. Using the installed sensor zones, you can adjust the operation of the audio installation and the climate system.

The dashboard also has a large 12-inch screen. It displays all the necessary information, just touch it.

The console has a slightly smaller monitor. It is convenient in that you can change the angle of inclination and it will be more convenient to work with it.

The climate complex is also controlled using a touchscreen. The backlight is configurable. A total of 10 lighting options are available.

The front seats, as expected, received additional support for the back and lower back. The manufacturer has equipped them with heating, ventilation and massage.

The rear sofa is electrically adjustable. Three seats also received an individual heating system.

The price tag and the appearance on the market of Range Rover Velar 2017-2018 in a new body (configuration and prices)

In a few months, the British crossover will be available for order from officials in North America, Europe and China. For the US, the minimum price tag will be set at $49,900. For Europe, the cost will increase slightly - from 56,400 euros.

Cross Range Rover will appear on the Russian market no earlier than this autumn, so it’s too early to talk about its cost.

Land Rover's lineup of premium brand models has expanded with a new mid-size crossover Range Rover Velar 2017. The long-awaited novelty in its serial incarnation was first shown on March 1, just a few days before the start of the prestigious Geneva Motor Show. The new Range Rover Velar, united by family ties with the Jaguar F-Pace SUV, joined the manufacturer's lineup between and.

Overview of the new Range Rover Velar 2017

The Range Rover Velar is based on the PLA D7 aluminum platform also used for the Jaguar F-Pace and Range Rover Sport. The new crossover has a length of 4803 mm, width - 1930 mm, height - 1665 mm. The wheelbase is 2874 mm, i.e. exactly the same as that of the platform Jaguar. Velar ground clearance varies depending on the type of suspension installed. The classic spring scheme of the chassis provides a gap of 213 mm under the bottom, while the air suspension allows you to change the clearance in the range of 205-251 mm. A higher “landing” of the body increases the depth of the ford to be overcome - if the standard car is ready to force water barriers up to 600 mm deep, then with air cushions it can dive 50 mm deeper. Based on the format and overall dimensions of Velar, we will also include among its competitors.

The body of the new Range Rover is designed in the family style of the brand, excluding excessive emotionality and complexity of forms. At the same time, the novelty boasts a considerable number of original details that allow the crossover to look more stylish even against the background of its handsome “brothers”. It is curious that the designers have prepared three lines of external decor for the model - regular, R-Dynamic and First Edition. The second option is interesting with the use of "copper" inserts decorating the "gills" of the front fenders, ventilation grilles on the hood and the side sections of the air intake. The First Edition version is the same R-Dynamic, but only with a contrasting roof.

Photo body design Range Rover Velar

The front part of the body of the new Land Rover premium crossover is equipped with exclusively LED headlights in several versions. The "base" offers static LED-optics, in more expensive versions - matrix lighting, in top modifications - adaptive modules with laser high beam, "shooting" 550 meters ahead. Tied neatly between the headlights, the Range Rover Velar's grille is decorated in classic Land Rover style.

Photo Range Rover Velar 2017

The stern of the British SUV stands out with spectacular contours and a striking design with three-dimensional graphics of overall shades and a powerful rear bumper equipped with two large exhaust pipe nozzles. A scrupulous inspection allows us to establish that on the compact tailgate of a car there is not only a nameplate with the name of the model, but also an inscription indicating the type of power unit mounted in the engine compartment.

2017 Range Rover Velar stern styling

In profile, the Range Rover Velar looks dynamic, energetic and reckless. The novelty is characterized by an elongated “nose”, strongly inclined front and rear roof pillars, small body overhangs, a beautifully traced feed with an elegant spoiler, huge wheel arches with perfectly inscribed disks measuring 18-21 inches (even 22 inches for an extra charge).

One of Velar's "chips" is U-shaped retractable door handles with LED backlight. They fold automatically when the car is locked or reaches a speed of 8 km/h. After retracting the handles, an absolutely flat surface is formed, which contributes to a better streamlining of the body. By the way, the aerodynamics of the car is already in full order - the coefficient of 0.32, although not a record in the class, is definitely the best among the “relatives”. At the same time, the company's engineers managed to benefit from the incoming air currents by directing them with a spoiler to the glass of the fifth door. Such blowing should contribute to the rapid cleaning of the latter.

The interior of the Range Rover Velar 2017

Land Rover developers would not be themselves if they did not equip their offspring with a mass of advanced electronics. But in the case of the Range Rover Velar, they went even further, completely abandoning the physical switches. All manual buttons and knobs have been replaced with touchpads that light up when the ignition is turned on. There are three such panels in total - this is a 12.3-inch virtual “tidy” display and a pair of 10-inch Touch Pro Duo system screens that occupy the entire center console.

Why are there two screens on the console, and not one? Everything is simple here - in view of the abundance of various functions, it was decided to distribute them between two displays. Thus, the upper one is intended mainly for outputting multimedia content, and the lower one does an excellent job of operating the settings of the air conditioning system, the Terrain Response system and a number of other systems.

Photo front panel Range Rover Velar 2017

Interestingly, the matter is not limited to the above sensors. The buttons on the steering wheel are also capacitive, and the purpose of each of them can change. It doesn’t make much sense to talk about the Velar’s interior trim, since everything here, as expected, looks as high quality and expensive as possible. Unless we focus on the new fabric upholstery, made using a special technology by processing plastic bottles. This innovative material provides a pleasant tactile feel, and is also characterized by good wear resistance and durability. High-quality Windsor leather is available as an alternative to fabric.

The list of standard and optional equipment of the Land Rover Range Rover Velar includes front seats with ventilation and massage functions, an electric trunk lid, background LED interior lighting with 10 color options, a Meridian premium audio system with 17 or 23 speakers, a large projection a display with beautiful graphics, a climate control panel and an entertainment system (two 8-inch screens) for passengers in the rear row.

Electronic assistance systems are represented by emergency braking, lane control, lane keeping assistant, driver fatigue monitoring, traffic sign recognition, cross-traffic tracking when reversing, adaptive cruise control, panoramic cameras, automatic parking attendant.

The trunk volume of the crossover with a standard 5-seat interior configuration is 673 liters. Under the floor is a dokatka.

Sales market: Russia.

The new Range Rover Velar shares a platform with the Jaguar F-Pace, but has more equipment. In the lineup, it occupies a place between two other Range Rover models: the younger Evoque and the more status Sport. All versions of the Velar have four wheel drive, while the F-Pace can be rear-wheel drive. Velar can also be ordered with air suspension (changes ground clearance from 201 to 251 mm), which is not available for platform Jaguar. The name Velar was coined more than 40 years ago - under this name, the very first Range Rover cars were tested on the road in the 1970s. For greater secrecy, all pre-production models were decorated with the letters V E L A R on the leading edge of the hood. At first, the Range Rover Velar received gasoline and diesel engines ranging from 180 to 380 hp, with four and six (V6) cylinders. Gearbox - only 8-speed "automatic". A sporty V8 version of the SVR is also expected as part of the 2019 model year.

Range Rover Velar 2018 is available in the Russian market in Base, S, SE, R-Dynamic Base, R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE, R-Dynamic HSE trim levels and in a limited First Edition. The basic package includes: 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, retractable door handles, a 250 W eight-speaker Land Rover audio system, keyless entry system, climate control, voice control. A distinctive feature of the novelty in expensive trim levels was the center console with two touch screens with a diagonal of 10 inches. Such a system is called Touch Pro Duo. Multimedia operation is supported by a quad-core Intel processor, a 60 GB hard drive and a high-speed data transfer system. In addition to two digital displays, there is a third (diagonal 12.3 inches) - instead of the traditional instrument panel. For the top version of the First Edition, worth more than 7 million rubles, there are 21-inch wheels, matrix-laser LED headlights, carbon fiber inserts in the cabin, suede ceiling trim, front seats with 20-way adjustment, massage and heating / cooling functions, a projection display .

Range Rover Velar buyers can choose from six engines. There are two two-liter four-cylinder variants with 180 hp on the diesel list. (430 Nm) and 240 hp (500Nm) and a 3.0-liter V6 with 300 hp. (700 Nm) with acceleration from 0-100 km / h in 8.9 s, 7.3 s and 6.5 s, respectively. As for gasoline engines, there are also two configurations. The first is a 2.0-liter turbo, four cylinders, 250 (365 Nm) and 300 hp. (400 Nm). The second is a 3.0 liter V6 (380 hp, 450 Nm) with a Roots Twin Vortex supercharger. The latter accelerates the Velar from zero to 100 km / h in just 5.7 seconds, and for the "fours" the same figure is 6.7 and 6 seconds. Range Rover Velar is equipped with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with the ability to control using paddles. Fuel consumption for diesel versions is 5.4-6.4 l / 100 km. For gasoline - 7.6-9.4 l / 100 km.

RR Velar has a plug-in all-wheel drive, the ability to switch road modes, air suspension, an impressive ground clearance (251 mm with "pneuma" and 213 without it) and a maximum fording depth of 650 mm. Short front and rear overhangs allow it to overcome large angles of inclination. In terms of its dimensions, the Range Rover Velar car is quite compact. Despite the fact that it is about 45 centimeters longer than the Evoque in length, the width and height differ slightly from the Evoque (4803 x 2032 x 1665 versus 4355 x 1985 x 1605). It is about 5 cm shorter than the Range Rover Sport and 20 cm shorter than the classic Range Rover, while also falling short in other dimensions. In addition, there is no lowering row in the car, but an optional rear differential lock is offered.

Range Rover Velar's safety systems not only provide active protection for the driver and passengers, but also help prevent collisions. In addition to six airbags, standard equipment includes a range of electronic systems: dynamic stability control (DSC), anti-lock braking (ABS), brake force distribution (EBD), traction control (ETC), cornering braking control (CBC), rollover prevention (RSC) ), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). In addition, already "in the base" there are LED headlights, cruise control and a speed limiter, an autonomous emergency braking system (AEB), a lane departure warning system. Optional systems include adaptive cruise control with traffic assist and Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB), adaptive headlights, laser high beam technology, as well as fatigue management systems, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition and other equipment. .

The target audience of new items include people who want to buy something new, but at the same time get the "true Range Rover spirit".

The luxury SUV celebrated its world premiere on March 1, 2017. In May 2018, the British company prepared the first minor improvement package for the SUV. The novelty was equipped with an extended list of modifications, supplementing it with one petrol and one diesel power unit. In addition, the capacity of the fuel tank was increased to 92 liters (only in models running on gasoline) and the list of basic equipment was revised. All .

Car history

Every 6 years, Land Rover introduces a new vehicle to the world community. During the Geneva Motor Show, a completely new off-road version of the Range Rover Velar 2017 was shown, expanding the manufacturer's line. The company was able to hide the car until the very beginning of the presentation.

In addition, Land Rover management decided not to show any concept versions. Therefore, at this time, a serial crossover car came out immediately. When the brand was just starting to develop, the company came up with the name Velar - it was the first not entirely successful conceptual version (in 1968).

Range Rover Velar on display in Geneva

In 2017, it was customary to name a new car in honor of this version. The novelty is the “brother” of the F-Pace, as it was built on a single “trolley” iQ. Land Rover brand cars have good reliability, as well as their own style. Appearance and performance corresponds to the premium class segment. The Range Rover division is considered the most popular among Land Rover.

The British SUV has the “family” style of a premium company, an innovative but recognizable interior, as well as a large number of modern electronic “chips”. In October 2017, the car reached the Russian market.

Exterior

From the very beginning, I would like to say that the variety of appearance of the Velar SUV is very large. The appearance of the "British" in many ways testifies to the current style of the car, although the design team was able to retain the significant features of the Range Rover family.

Experienced car enthusiasts or ardent supporters of this division can say that the novelty has some features of the 2 older "brothers" in the face of the Evoque in the bow area and Sport in the remaining body parts. The front of the new Range Rover Velar 2018 has the most modern front optics.

Already the basic equipment has LED filling in front, and more expensive configurations will receive a matrix-laser layout. Based on the passport data of the Range Rover Velar, the optics can shine at a distance of up to 550 m. As mentioned a little higher, the optical elements were taken to a greater extent from the Evoque car.

It turned out to be flattened, elongated on the sides - all this only allows you to emphasize and decorate the appearance of the Velar SUV. As for the grille, it is also a bit similar to the Evoque version, but has received a wider design.

Depending on what the equipment will be, the radiator grille can get a chrome trim for the standard version, as well as black for the R-Dynamic and Velar First Edition models. A similar difference is also present in the "nameplate" on the end of the hood. The Land Rover Range Rover Velar comes standard with Range Rover badging (chrome tint), while the R-Dynamic and First Edition versions will get this badge in black.

The manufacturer has released a sports version of the R-Dynamic, which features improved aerodynamics. The drag coefficient has been reduced to 0.32.

Further, a distinctive element of the Range Rover Velar versions after the grille is the front bumper. The standard equipment will receive a bumper, curved in width, on which there will be no additional aerodynamic openings. The lower edge of the bumper in the usual version is decorated with a small additional grille for blowing the power unit.

The entire lower part of the crossover bumper is decorated with a splitter made of black plastic, which, in combination, provides additional protection to the motor. If the prototypes of the last century were frame, then the 2018-2019 Range Rover Velar has a body made of 81 percent aluminum. But the R-Dynamic and First Edition equipment has auxiliary aerodynamic openings on the sides of the bumper, made quite stylishly.

They got golden partitions. Their upper part has LED fog lights installed, which could not be found on the basic version of Velar 2018. The lower edge of the bumper is decorated with a large additional “engine” airflow grille. These models also received a front camera, a night vision function and a chrome strip at the bottom.

The hood of the novelty is similar in appearance to the Sport variant. The cheapest equipment has a solid hood that repeats the shape of the radiator grille. But the rest of the new Range Rover Velar will be equipped with aerodynamic openings for improved airflow to the power unit and increase the dynamic data of the vehicle.

Any Velar received the function of heating the windshield. Indeed, the nasal area of the “British” turned out to be stylish and more beautiful than that of its older models. The appearance of the new Range Rover Velar 2018 stands out with a stylish appearance, modern optics and a swift silhouette. It can be seen that the designers of the company did not sit idly by.

Most likely, the side part is of most interest to all car owners and Land Rover supporters. Door handles - this is exactly what received a variety of data from various publications. The novelty has unusual retractable handles with touch control. Nowadays, all modern new vehicles have this.

This style was set by Mercedes during the first presented conceptual version of the CIAA. Approaching the British car, you just need to press a button on the handle, after which the door handle will leave. It is difficult to say whether this option is convenient or not, however, such innovations are already present in Land Rover's serial crossovers. The side of the Range Rover Velar has distinctive air vents on the front fenders and a small area of the front doors.

Similar air channels are observed in the Evoque, but there they received not such large dimensions. The ride height on the spring suspension is 213 millimeters, and if you install the air suspension, this parameter increases to 251 millimeters, which is a very good result.

The base version of the new Range Rover Velar 2018 has 18-inch alloy branded “rollers”. However, as a separate option, you can install 19-, 20-, 21-, and 22-inch wheels. Massive extensions of the wheel arches turned out. You can also notice a smooth stamping line in the middle, which looks very nice.

Interestingly, similar door handles can be seen on the American model.

Initial Velar trims received chrome inserts, while the R-Dynamic and First Edition versions are equipped with gold-colored inserts. From the front optics to the taillights, the 2018 Range Rover Velar is equipped with a stylish stripe that emphasizes the style of the novelty. Experienced specialists of the design department worked on this. External mirrors are equipped with their own twist.

In addition to the turn signals and cameras, the lower part has directional lenses to project the Land Rover logo onto the road. In addition, it is possible to highlight the driver's and passenger's seat. Decorates the new British car Land Rover Range Rover Velar roof. As in other cars of the company, they decided to paint the upper part of the vehicle black, and emphasize the lower part with plastic edging.

The option of the roof top is available for the individual order of the buyer - it can be body color or be completely black. Regardless of the form factor of the roof, it will only be panoramic in any version. It extends over 3 rows of seats. Roof rails will be installed on the roof to carry bulky cargo. Based on passport data, the maximum load weight should not exceed 79 kilograms - in this parameter, the "British" loses even to ordinary SUVs.

The British crossover looks especially beautiful with a black panoramic roof, which visually makes the Range Rover Velar more stylish and sophisticated. The stern part was slightly tilted at an angle. It involves the installation of a third row of seats. The sirloin area Velar turned out to be peculiar. In terms of looks, it's a bit like a cross between an Evoque and a Sport.

It was decided to build the rear optics using LED technology. It is located to some extent on the body and tailgate. Between the lamps, the Range Rover name is visible on a dark background. To the left there is a Velar marking. A nice wing was installed on the top of the tailgate. Models differ in the lower part of the bumper.

The initial version has a small plastic insert with 2 vertical stripes. The machine performed by R-Dynamic received a similar insert, but wider. In addition, it will already have 3 lanes. The maximum version of the First Edition will receive a black wide insert, as well as a pair of chrome exhaust tips.

The back of the "British" looks narrow, but this is only visual. The company has provided enough body color options for the updated Range Rover Velar 2019 crossover. It is possible to highlight the presence of:

  • White;
  • Black;
  • Light gray metallic;
  • Dark gray metallic;
  • Red metallic;
  • Grey-blue metallic;
  • Platinum;
  • pearly white;
  • brown;
  • Graphite;
  • Gray.

The Velar First Edition package has the following custom color options: Silicon Silver, Corris Grey, Flux and a special matte finish.

Interior

If the appearance of the new Velar model does not stand out so strikingly, then the interior of the new car has changed quite seriously. The design department also tried to use the latest technologies for the interior of the Land Rover Range Rover Velar. Separately, I would like to say that it is quite spacious inside, and even the basic equipment has three rows of seats.

The front panel was made using touch screens and panels. The developers used only a small number of mechanical switches, which had a positive effect on convenience and functionality. The central part of the front panel was taken to the high-resolution 10-inch touch screen of the entertainment system.

With the help of high quality technology, the display is able to recognize accidental or special pressing. Above the display, you can see 2 modest, narrow deflectors of the ventilation system, as well as an emergency button.

The interior of the novelty has a 60-gigabyte solid-state drive and a 4-core processor from the world famous Intel company. A similar system was equipped with a Wi-Fi access point. There is also support for 4G and the ability to connect up to 8 gadgets.

The driver's seat looks very interesting. "Tidy" was performed on the basis of a massive TFT display, which received a diagonal of 12.3 inches. The dashboard "board" receives and displays information coming from the multimedia center, displays indications about the state of the vehicle.

The dashboard of the new Velar 2018 itself has a speedometer installed on the left side, while the tachometer was placed on the right side - a rather unusual solution. They decided to take the central part to display information from surveillance cameras and night vision radars. It turns out that the owner will be minimally distracted from driving an SUV.

A projection display has found its place behind the “tidy”. Unlike previous versions, it was synchronized with the dashboard and multimedia center. If necessary, it can show only the necessary information or a picture from circular cameras.

An exquisite steering wheel is installed in front of the panel. It combines classic design and modern technology, which together improve the overall ergonomics of the cabin. On the central part you can see an airbag and a sound signal. The side spokes have touch panels and buttons, so the engineers were able to equip the steering wheel with the maximum amount of functionality.

It's nice that any equipment of the Range Rover Velar has the function of heating the "steering wheel". The back of the steering wheel has a pair of paddles for switching speeds, and next to them there are adjustment levers for light, turn signals and other systems. For the steering wheel, only leather with high-quality stitching was used.

The steering column can be adjusted electrically. Optionally, the car can be equipped with four-zone climate control, a Meridian musical advanced audio system with 23 or 17 speakers and an air ionizer.

Interestingly, the British crossover Range Rover Velar was awarded the "Automotive Design of the Year" in 2018 (World Car Awards).

The multimedia system was equipped with the maximum number of machine functions, navigation maps in various languages and excellent picture quality from the camera around the entire perimeter of the British crossover. Under the function display, there is another touch panel designed to control the climate system, vehicle functions and security systems.

The only thing that is controlled mechanically is the “manual” temperature setting controls. In addition, mechanically, you can adjust the suspension and select the mode of movement. On the right side, the designers placed a touch panel to control the functions of the entertainment system and the car itself as a whole. For the first time, such a panel appeared in the Lexus LS 2018.

Inside the car there are chrome inserts. Speaking about the seats, it is worth saying that they provide passengers with a high level of comfort. The seats installed in front have a sporty style with pronounced lateral support. They received electrical adjustments, ventilation and heating functions. Between the front seats of the updated Range Rover Velar 2019, the already familiar armrest with 2 zones is installed.

The front seats are sporty

Nearby you can see a box of small dimensions for small things. The presence of cup holders, a comfortable armrest, USB ports and other practical elements improve the overall ergonomics of the new Range Rover Velar 2019. Judging by the modern equipment of the Range Rover Velar, a fair question arises, how will the sensory electronics, which abound here, work in the cold?

The manual knows that at temperatures of -20 and below, the response to pressing virtual keys slows down. However, company representatives assure that all displays warm up quickly, so there will be no serious difficulties. As for the second and third row of seats, they are quite comfortable for long trips and can accommodate 5-6 people, depending on the modification chosen.

The basic versions have a 2nd row of a solid type, however, the top versions are divided into 2 seats, according to the type of seats installed in front. The second row of seats has an armrest and a heating function, and ventilation can be installed for it as a separate option. Rear passengers have separate climate control. There is enough free space. Finishing materials include premium fabric, high-quality leather and suede.

Interior decor boasts expensive woods and carbon fibres. LED lighting is used along the entire border of the cabin. Its color is selected on the display located in the center. To further decorate and personalize your Range Rover Velar 2019 interior, you can select shades and trim materials to your taste as a separate option.

Even the basic interior looks very expensive, and the top-end performance will be able to conquer even the most picky car enthusiast in terms of comfort and sophistication. Given the five-seater layout, the volume of the luggage compartment of the novelty will be 559 liters.

But if necessary, you can fold the 2nd row of seats into 3 sections in the proportion 40/20/40, which will create an almost flat floor and increase the volume to 1,731 liters of usable space. The underground niche has a spare reduced wheel and a set of tools.

Specifications

power unit

The list of engines of the new Range Rover Velar has five engines that run on gasoline and diesel fuel. The initial version is the P250 model, which operates on gasoline. This option has a four-cylinder 2.0-liter Ingenium engine with turbocharging, an intelligent continuous valve control system.

There is also direct injection, a function of double variable valve timing and a sixteen-valve timing system. All together, this allows you to issue 250 horsepower and 365 Nm. For those who will not have enough of such a diesel engine, the British company has provided an improved V-shaped six-cylinder 3.0-liter power plant.

It also received a turbocharger, directional direct injection, dual variable valve timing technology and a dual balance shaft system. Experts announced two options for boosting: the P340 modification develops 340 “horses” and 450 Nm, and the P380, respectively, 380 horsepower and also 450 Nm of torque. Gasoline engines "eat" from 7.6 to 9.4 liters in the combined cycle. Motors are configured for our territory on Euro-6.

The diesel list is represented by 3 power units. The base engine is a four-cylinder, in-line, 2.0-liter D180 engine that has received direct power technology, a smart cooling system, a 16-valve timing and a variable geometry turbocharger. In general, the motor has 180 horsepower and 430 Nm. Next comes the same power plant, which already has a twin turbo.

As a result, the "engine" gives 240 "mares" and 500 Nm of maximum potential. The top-end is the 3.0-liter V-shaped, 6-cylinder version, which received direct injection. There is a dual system of parallel-sequential turbocharging, a 24-valve gas distribution mechanism and a 2-stage oil pump.

There are 2 equipment options: the D275 modification develops 275 horsepower and 625 Nm of available output, as well as the D300 version, which received 300 “horses” and as much as 700 Nm of torque. Diesel options consume no more than 5.4-6.4 liters for every 100 kilometers in combined mode. For Russia, the motors were tuned to Euro-5.

Transmission

Only the 8-speed ZF robotic box, which has a Terrain Response system, cooperates with sufficiently powerful power units. As a separate option, you can install an advanced 2nd generation complex with automatic mode. Expensive cars have a locking cross-axle differential. Provided in all versions only full and permanent drive.

The transmission received a multi-plate hydraulic clutch and a chain drive in the front wheel drive. In standard mode, all the torque is transmitted to the rear wheels, but if necessary, it can be sent to the front wheels in full volume. Vehicles that have received six-cylinder "engines" also have an electronically controlled rear axle differential lock.

The dynamic data of the British SUV is not bad. The 2019 Range Rover Velar hits 60 mph in just 5.7-8.9 seconds. The maximum speed is 209-250 kilometers per hour.

Chassis

The aluminum platform IQ (AL) was used as the basis for the crossover. The body structure is more than 80 percent aluminum. Front and rear of the Range Rover Velar has independent suspension. Ahead, the designers used a two-lever design, and a multi-link design at the back. Already in the basic configuration, the SUV has electronically controlled shock absorbers with variable stiffness.

As a separate option, you can also install an air suspension, which allows you to adjust the ride height. The crossover handles very well with the help of a rack with variable tooth pitch. Electric power steering also helps. The brake system is represented by ventilated disc brakes, complemented by ABS, EBD, BA electronic technologies and other technologies.

The British model performs well on light off-road. Given the spring suspension, the angles of entry and exit (24.5 / 26.5 degrees, respectively), as well as the depth of the ford to be overcome 600 millimeters, we can say that you have much less chance of getting stuck with it. On top of that, the car can pull a trailer weighing up to 2.5 tons.

Safety

Applying the latest technical innovations, the engineering staff did not stint on ensuring the proper level of safety. The updated Range Rover Velar received the highest rating of 5 stars during Euro NCAP testing. Such data indicates a high level of security. The expert staff of the European new car appraisal company deservedly appreciated the light, strong and very strong load-bearing body made of aluminum, endowing it with the maximum well-deserved award.

The car also has ISOFIX child seat attachment points. For the driver, as well as passengers, the British provided as many as 6 airbags. Thanks to the sporty "commander" landing of the crossover, the owner's confidence is improved and an unforgettable driving experience is enhanced. The Range Rover Velar is equipped with the latest technology.

This includes Electronic Traction Control (ETC), which optimizes traction, as well as Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). The latter is able to automatically regulate the braking force that is supplied to each axle, while reducing the braking distance.

The car has inflatable seat belts, already included in the basic package. You can install a custom "cruise", as well as adaptive front optics. Blind zones are controlled by special electronics. For towing, we decided to use a separate system responsible for maneuverability with a trailer and its functionality.

When reversing with a trailer, Surround View technology will provide the driver with an optimal trajectory, as well as help turn the steering wheel in the desired direction.
Interestingly, the new Range Rover Velar has an interesting keyless entry system. Instead of the Smart Key system, the Active Key is used.

A wrist bracelet is used as a keychain, which is a bit like a fitness bracelet. Top-end Velar configurations allow you to change it for a fashionable watch with a color screen that supports touch control from Land Rover. The specialists did not forget about the installation of an emergency braking assistance system (EBA).

She is able to recognize the moment when the driver sharply presses the brake pedal, but does not apply force sufficient to quickly stop the car. The system then increases the braking force with the help of the ABS system pump in order to immediately stop the vehicle.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the Adaptive Dynamics adaptive suspension control system, which 500 times per second collects information about the vehicle’s movement parameter, steering turns. It provides precise control and ultimate smoothness. The system was taught to respond to the owner's commands and the position on the road, which makes it possible to more accurately adjust the damper stiffness settings in the entire range of values.

Thanks to the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), it is possible to monitor the behavior of the vehicle during maneuvers. The technology turns on when the car does not respond to the actions of the owner. Because of this, the new British crossover has balanced handling and superior agility. A potential buyer will enjoy driving the Range Rover Velar both on pavement and on a bad road.

The Land Rover company is seriously concerned about its image, as well as the health of its customers, therefore it pays special attention to safety. The Range Rover Velar is equipped with Rollover Prevention Control (RSC), which is integrated with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) technology. Because of this, the chance of a vehicle tipping over due to sudden maneuvers while passing another traffic participant or an obstacle on the road section is significantly reduced.

Land Rover safety experts taught the system to monitor the driving parameters and the degree of centrifugal forces during the maneuver, diagnosing the chance of a rollover in a timely manner. With such a risk, braking forces are transmitted to the outer front wheel to turn, which entails a decrease in centrifugal force, which threatens the stability of the crossover.

Don't forget to install Dynamic Wheel Torque Distribution, which functions through selective wheel braking and combines with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics technology to provide excellent agility.

The cooperation of these technologies helps to transfer the required amount of rotational force to each of their 4 wheels, which makes the car more stable and responsive to drive. The Rear Camera provides excellent visibility when reversing, making parking and hitching a trailer much easier.
