The Gloria sedan appeared in the model range of the Nissan brand in 1967 - after the merger of Nissan Motor and Prince Motor Company, which produced the Prince Gloria car since 1959.
The rear-wheel drive car was offered to buyers with sedan and station wagon bodies, and its appearance was reminiscent of the design of American cars of those years. Nissan Gloria was equipped with a four-cylinder two-liter engine or in-line sixes with a volume of 2.0 and 2.5 liters. The gearbox could be manual or automatic, three-speed.
2nd generation (230), 1971
The next generation Gloria, introduced in 1971, was the twin model that the Prince Gloria once competed with. The car had versions with sedan, station wagon and coupe bodies, and under the hood it had in-line gasoline engines - a two-liter four-cylinder or a 2.6-liter six-cylinder.
3rd generation (330), 1975
In 1975, another version of the Gloria went on sale, again repeating the model (such a “duplication” of models will continue in the future for many years). The choice of bodies was wide: sedan, station wagon, coupe and hardtop, and the range of engines consisted of in-line "fours" 2.0 and "sixes" with a volume of 2.0 or 2.8 liters. In 1977, there was also a modification with a 2.2-liter diesel engine.
4th generation (430), 1979
The fourth generation Nissan Gloria was produced in Japan from 1979 to 1983. The coupe disappeared from the lineup, and some engines received an electronic fuel injection system. The car was equipped with in-line six-cylinder engines 2.0 (including turbocharged) and 2.8, as well as diesel engines with a volume of 2.0, 2.2 and 2.8 liters. In addition, the car had modifications with gas-powered engines.
5th generation (Y30), 1983
The fifth generation of the model, introduced in 1983, received a new solid design. It is noteworthy that the cars designed to work in a taxi differed from the usual versions by four round headlights instead of block headlights. The main technical innovation of the Gloria was the two or three-liter V6 engines, which had both atmospheric and turbocharged versions. The base was a four-cylinder two-liter engine, and diesel engines had a volume of 2.2 and 2.8 liters. Modifications that run on gas have also been preserved. 6th generation (Y31), 1987
Nissan Gloria sedans and hardtops with the factory index Y31 began to be produced in 1987. Atmospheric and turbocharged engines V6 2.0 (125–210 hp) or V6 3.0 with a capacity of 160–195 forces were installed on the car. A six-cylinder diesel engine with a volume of 2.8 liters developed 94 liters. With. The next version of the model, which debuted in 1995, was very similar in appearance to the previous generation car. But under the hood of the Gloria there were new V-shaped six-cylinder engines of the VQ series with a volume of 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 liters (the three-liter engine also had a turbocharged version), developing from 125 to 270 hp. With. The 2.8-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 100 liters has also been preserved in the range. With. Another innovation was the appearance of an all-wheel drive modification, such cars were equipped with a 2.5 petrol inline “six” (235 hp) with a turbocharger. All versions were equipped with automatic transmissions.
9th generation (Y34), 1999
The latest generation of the Nissan Gloria model, which received a completely new original design, debuted in 1999. The car was equipped only with powerful gasoline engines, including those with direct fuel injection. The base engine was a V6 2.5 (210 hp), a three-liter "six" in the atmospheric version developed 240 hp. s., and in a turbocharged one - 280 forces. The all-wheel drive modification of the Gloria had a 2.5-liter in-line six-cylinder engine with a capacity of 250–260 hp. With. All cars were equipped with automatic transmissions, and for cars with a three-liter turbo engine, a variator was also offered.
In 2004, the long history of the Gloria model came to an end, it was replaced by a new sedan.

In the basic configuration, the Nissan Gloria is equipped with a six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.5 and 3 liters. Modern versions of this model have a heavily modified appearance, in which the designers of the leading Japanese automobile concern decided to display the entire personality of the car, having worked out every detail of its exterior.
In addition, the car has improved driving characteristics. It received high marks compared to previous generations and many units from other manufacturers. In particular, a modern automatic transmission is installed on the car, which is perfectly combined with the characteristics of the engine and chassis. This allows you to confidently maneuver in almost any road conditions, whether it is a city traffic jam or a country road. Y34 and MY34
Now consider the characteristics of these machines. Nissan Gloria and Cedric are somewhat different depending on the configuration and body type. Features of the braking system of vehicles
The brake system of Nissan Gloria and Cedric vehicles consists of three components. For movement and planning maneuvers, this device plays a big role. Also, with a good braking system, it is easy for the driver to plan the future trajectory of movement. Working together, they provide efficient and safe braking of the vehicle:
- EBD, or Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, is designed to provide optimal braking to all wheels, taking into account vehicle load and road conditions.
- Nissan's proprietary Brake Assist system is activated if the sensors detect that the driver has sharply pressed the brake pedal. This device provides assistance in cases where fast and effective braking is required.
- The ABS system will prevent the wheels from locking up and make it possible to maintain control of the car in emergency situations.
The Nissan Gloria, a class D rear-wheel drive passenger car, has been produced by the Prince Motor Company since 1960. In 1966, this company became part of Nissan. Under this brand, its release continued. An almost completely similar model, with the exception of the design of the radiator grille and modified optics, was the Nissan Cedric. While the Cedric was designed to be a comfortable ride, meeting the requirements of a business class car, the Gloria was a sporty version of this model.
Since 1979, five series of the car have been produced: 430, Y30, Y31, Y32 and Y34. The 430 series had four round headlights and was produced with a 2.8 L L28 OHC I6 engine. For foreign markets, the model was offered under the index 280C. In 1982, the power plant was equipped with electronic injection; for Singapore and Hong Kong, versions with a 2.2 liter diesel engine were produced, used as a taxi and called 220C.
From 1984 to 1987, the Y30 series was produced. The car was equipped with a base 3-liter VG30E V6 gasoline engine, but 2-liter VG20E engines were installed on some cars. For the domestic market of Japan, as well as for the countries already mentioned above, diesel versions were still produced, which were used to transport passengers.
From the end of 1987 to 1991, Y31 cars were produced, both in the form of a 4-door sedan and in the hardtop version (without window frames in the doors). The range of engines was quite “long” and included gasoline power plants: 2 L VG20E, 3 L VG30E, 3 L VG30ET turbocharged, 2 L V6 RB20P, 2 L NA20P, as well as diesel engines 2.5 L TD25, 2.7 l TD27 and 2.8 l RD28.
The model of this series had a sports version of the GranTurismo SV, a characteristic feature of which was a shortened front bumper; a 2-liter VG20DET power unit was installed on it. In 1989, on the basis of Cedric, the production of the YPY31 police car began. With the start of production in 1991 of the Y32 series, the production of the Y31 sedan was not discontinued: with minor modifications, it was used in rental and taxi services.
Buyers of Gloria cars were offered five trim levels (Original, Custom, Super Custom, Classic, Classic SV), and for Cedric - also an exhaustively luxurious "Brougham VIP".
From the end of 1991 to 1994, the Y32 generation was produced with V6 gasoline engines of the VG series: 2 liters VG20E, 3-liter VG30E, VG30DE and VG30DET, as well as 2.8-liter RD28 diesel engines.
From 1999 to 2004, cars were produced in the back of the Y34. The design of this series was developed in the California studio of the American branch of Nissan, taking into account the preferences of US consumers. Somewhat angular forms gave way to smooth lines, which gave the model an individuality that was confirmed in small details.
There was also a final distribution of modifications; for Gloria "fixed" sports version of Gran Tourismo, and for Cedric - the most expensive Brougham. This contributed to the strengthening of the brand's image, both models acquired their easily recognizable and pronounced image. The exterior of the front of the Gloria has changed especially strongly, the radiator grille had a large transverse directional pattern and looked aggressive. The dimensions of the car were 4870/1765/1430 mm with a wheelbase of 2730 mm and a track of 1500/1495 mm. The curb weight of the car was 1600 kg. Clearance - 140 mm.
The interior package included velor or leather upholstery, PB, full power accessories, digital display, CD, TV, navigation and more.
The car was equipped with V6 petrol engines with direct fuel injection system NeoDi 2.5 l VQ25DD (210 hp), 3 l VQ30DD and VQ30DET (turbo, 280 hp) and inline 6-cylinder 2.5-liter RB25DET DOHC (260 hp) turbocharged. The power units were paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission or a variator. Gasoline consumption in the version with a 3-liter VQ30DET engine in the urban cycle reached 14 liters per 100 km, and a top speed of 210 km/h. The RB25DET engine was installed on all-wheel drive modifications.
In addition to the rather high dynamic characteristics of the Gloria, its driving performance and good handling, which made it possible to combine speed and driving comfort, deserved excellent marks. This was achieved through the use of an independent multi-link suspension with longitudinal, transverse and diagonal levers at the rear and transverse levers and rods at the front. Also in the suspension were used suspension struts, coil springs and anti-roll bars front and rear.
The steering was rack and pinion and power steering. Brakes are fully ventilated discs. ABS was supplied as standard.
In Japan, the Gloria and Cedric cars were produced until October 2004, their successor was the Nissan Fuga, and a similar class model is the Toyota Crown. In the American market, this Nissan model was called the Infiniti M45.
