Ford Mondeo 3 (Ford Mondeo)- a mid-size car of the European subsidiary of Ford. The struggle for leadership between representatives of middle-class business sedans is as follows - one clear favorite and a couple, to one degree or another, successful classmates who are trying not to concede to him in anything. Unlike competitors, Ford almost always managed to guess the mood and needs of buyers, thanks to this Mondeo has long been one of the best-selling cars in the segment. More than 10 years have passed since the production of this generation of the model was discontinued, but the car is still in strong demand in the secondary market, competing with younger domestic cars. But how justified will be the purchase of a Ford Mondeo 3 with mileage and what troubles the owners of this already middle-aged car face during operation, now we will try to find out.

A bit of history:

The name “Mondeo” (from the French “Monde” - “world”) was given to the car due to the fact that it was originally assumed that it would be developed by the design and engineering divisions of the Ford company located around the world. However, the main part of the work on the creation of the new model was entrusted to the branches of Ford Werke Gmbh, located in Germany. The debut of the first Mondeo (Mk I) took place in January 1993, and mass production started in March. The novelty was designed to replace the outdated Ford Sierra on the market. The assembly of the car was carried out at the Ford plant in Genk (Belgium). The production of this generation lasted until 1996.

The second generation Ford Mondeo (Mk II) debuted in 1996, but many experts perceived the novelty as a deep restyling of the previous generation of the car. The main changes from its predecessor were: upgraded powertrains, redesigned front and rear parts of the body and a slightly modified front panel of the cabin. In 1999, the model range was replenished with a "charged" version of the Ford Mondeo ST200. The release of the second generation of this model continued until 2000.

The premiere of the Ford Mondeo 3 (Mk III) on the world market took place in 2000. This generation was very different from its predecessors, not only in large dimensions (it became longer and wider), but also in a new solid interior design. Despite the fact that the car belonged to the budget class of sedans, many experts highly appreciated the novelty. During the release, the car was restyled twice (in 2003 and 2005), during which the line of power units and transmission was updated. But the main emphasis was on changing the interior - each time they tried to make it more solid and comfortable. Production of Ford Mondeo 3 was completed in 2007.

The debut of the Ford Mondeo 4 took place in 2007. The novelty has become larger than its predecessor, not only externally, but also internally. The level of quality of interior finishing materials, as well as noise and vibration isolation, has significantly increased, a lot of attention has been paid to active safety. Since March 2009, the car has been assembled at the Russian plant in Vsevolzhsk. In August 2010, a restyling was carried out, during which the hood, radiator grille, bumpers were changed, the optics were also improved and LED daytime running lights appeared.

The fifth generation of the model was introduced in early 2012 in North America. The novelty has many similarities with the concept Ford Evos (Fusion) debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Weaknesses and shortcomings of Ford Mondeo 3 with mileage

It makes no more sense to talk about the quality of the paintwork, since most of the copies presented on the secondary market were repainted for one reason or another. If the car has not yet been painted, the paintwork will not be in the best condition, most often these are the consequences of minor damage (numerous chips, scratches). As for the corrosion resistance of the body, as a rule, there are no serious problems, with the exception of cars from the first years of production - they begin to rust in hidden places (under the upholstery of the front of the cabin and trunk). You can also note the tendency to corrosion of wheel arches, sills, door edges and welds in the engine compartment. Also at risk are the exhaust system, spars, suspension attachment points, subframes and the subframe itself.

The main weak points of the body are plastic elements - bumpers, fenders and their fastenings. The problem is that with the advent of cold, they tan and break even from a slight blow. Among other shortcomings of the body, the unreliability of the door hinges can be noted - they sag. Over time, the windshield seal loses its tightness, because of this, in rainy weather, moisture enters the cabin. Before buying, be sure to check if the floor is wet under the feet of the driver and passenger, since this defect was unlikely to be eliminated before the sale. The hood latch requires regular maintenance, the fact is that it is exposed to dirt and moisture. If you do not follow it (you need to regularly rinse and lubricate), there will be problems with its performance. Also, periodic lubrication is required for the wiper trapezium.

Power units

Ford Mondeo 3 was equipped with gasoline engines - 1.8 (110, 125 and 130 hp), 2.0 (145 hp), 2.5 (170 hp), 3.0 (204, 226 hp), and turbodiesel with a volume of 2.0 (90, 116, 130 hp) and 2.2 (155 hp) liters. Among gasoline power units, the most common are in-line fours with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters. Both units are reliable and rarely cause problems; closer to 250,000 km, the timing chain and its tensioners need to be replaced. Their main disadvantages include the following: The timing has a keyless landing of stars. To carry out this work, a qualified specialist is required, if you overtighten or undertighten the bolts, everything will end in an expensive engine repair. It should also be noted that there are no factory repair sizes of pistons, therefore, when overhauling, you have to change the short block.

Before buying, listen to the operation of the engine, if a rattling sound is heard in the area of \u200b\u200bthe first cylinder, resembling the sound of valves, most likely the damper in the intake manifold has worn out, replacement is only an assembly. For problem-free operation of the engine, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the spark plugs, since if they fail, the life of the ignition coils and catalyst decreases. Of the weaknesses of the power units, the unreliability of the fuel pump, thermostat, and EGR valve can be noted. Some owners complain about the difficult start of a cold engine. A car with a mileage of more than 200,000 km has increased oil consumption due to problems with piston rings and valve seals. The resource of power units declared by the manufacturer is 300-350 thousand km, but with proper maintenance they can last up to 500,000 km.

V6 petrol engines of 2.5 and 3.0 liters are less common. These power units are not only very similar to in-line fours, but have similar problems: a small resource of the fuel pump and dampers in the intake manifold, and the plastic impeller of the cooling pump is also a weak point (when replacing, it is recommended to give preference to a pump with a metal impeller). Among the shortcomings of the power units, one can note the unsuccessful design of the cooling system (there is a high probability of overheating of the engine) and high fuel consumption.

Diesel engines Ford Mondeo 3

Diesel engines are no less reliable than gasoline engines, but unlike them, they have more capricious fuel equipment. TDCi turbo engines equipped with the Delphi system deserve special attention. When buying a car with such a system, there is a high probability of encountering a breakdown of the injectors and the fuel pump, which, as a rule, ends with the repair of the entire injection system (the injection pump starts to drive metal chips). It is also worth mentioning the higher cost of maintenance, in addition, a significant part of European cars will be with a diesel particulate filter. Do not forget about the typical problems inherent in turbodiesel engines with high mileage - the EGR system valve and flow meter. By 150-200 thousand km, a dual-mass flywheel needs to be replaced. To avoid big troubles, it is necessary to refuel only with high-quality diesel fuel and change the oil every 8-10 thousand km. Using the recommended SAE30 oil in an engine with decent mileage may result in the piston liners turning (experts recommend using SAE40, or even SAE50).

Transmission

In the secondary market, Ford Mondeo 3 is available with the following gearboxes: 5 and 6-speed manual, as well as 4 and 5-speed automatic. The failure of mechanical gearboxes is an infrequent phenomenon, but given the age of the car, you need to be prepared to replace the clutch, as a rule, its resource is 140-160 thousand km. But the four-speed automatic transmission CD4E is the exact opposite of mechanics and has a large number of weaknesses. The oil pump delivers the most problems, since untimely diagnosis of its malfunction leads to early failure of the main transmission elements. It is also worth noting the weak solenoids in the valve body and the chain in the drive. Cases of failure and a double drum are not uncommon. Despite the fact that the cost of most spare parts is relatively low, the restoration of the transmission will not be cheap, and you should not count on a long resource of the repaired box. It is extremely rare that they nurse more than 150,000 km.

The Jatco five-speed automatic (JF506E) turned out to be much more reliable, but it also has a number of drawbacks. The most common ailment is the rapid wear of the rubber seals of the pistons and the pressure control solenoid. As a rule, by 200,000 km you have to change the entire set of solenoids and the valve body plate. It is also worth noting the tendency of the box to overheat (weak heat exchanger), after which a whole “bouquet” of problems can come out. The differential does not like heavy loads, so for those who like to light it up, it is at risk - the failure of the differential often leads to the destruction of the case and the failure of the automatic transmission.

Reliability running Ford Mondeo 3 with mileage

The front suspension of the Ford Mondeo 3 is traditional for most modern cars - MacPherson, but the rear is the pride of Ford engineers - a multi-link with steering effect. The weakest point of the suspension is the anti-roll bar, the original ones run 30-40 thousand km. The average resource of bushings is 50-60 thousand km. Also, the front springs, shock absorbers and thrust bearings have a small resource - 70-90 thousand km, but the rear ones can last up to 150 thousand km. Ball bearings run 100-120 thousand km, in the original they change only as an assembly with a lever, which significantly increases the cost of repairs. Silent blocks withstand up to 150,000 km. In the rear suspension, shock absorber springs are considered a weak point - the extreme turns break off. You can also note not very hardy levers, but, despite this, they nurse more than 100,000 km for careful drivers.

In the steering system, the steering rack is not famous for its reliability (it starts to knock closer to 120,000 km, and by 200-250 it can start to “bite” the steering wheel) and the power steering pump, fortunately, the replacement cost is not too high. To extend the life of the rack and pump, two rules should be followed - do not turn the wheels in place and do not hold the steering wheel in the extreme position for a long time. The remaining elements of the steering are reliable and have a good resource. So, for example, steering tips go on average 80-100 thousand km, thrust - 120-150 thousand km. Mondeo 3 has sensitive brakes designed for high speeds, but not designed for our dirt, which causes rapid wear of discs and pads. If you do not use the handbrake, over time, corrosion will begin to affect its cable sheath. If there is a problem, a sharp jerk of the handbrake can lead to deformation of the fasteners or the shoe drive mechanism. Also, on cars older than 12 years, brake lines and calipers suffer from corrosion.

Salon

The quality of the finishing materials for the Ford Mondeo 3 interior is average - some plastic elements are easily scratched and often creak annoyingly. Of the weaknesses of the cabin, one can note the rapid wear of the pads of the handles, the unreliability of the lumbar support of the front seats, and the frame itself is not designed for overall drivers. Despite the small amount of electronics, by modern standards, there were some drawbacks here. Of the minor troubles, one can note the fading climate control display, malfunctions of the central lock (replacement of microswitches is required) and power windows. A much more serious breakdown is the failure of the cabin fan and malfunctions in the climate system control unit.

Outcome:

Despite the fact that Ford Mondeo 3 is not without flaws, in this price segment (up to 5000 USD) it is one of the most interesting options in the secondary market. The best option for purchasing is a restyled copy with a two-liter engine paired with mechanics. Given the age of the car, its full diagnostics is not desirable, but a mandatory procedure that will help save more than one hundred dollars in the future.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your review that will help readers of our site when choosing a car.

Sincerely, editorial Autoavenue

General information about the car

The Ford Mondeo 3 is a front-wheel drive car of the "D" class, produced by the European division of Ford in three body styles - hatchback, station wagon, sedan. The third generation Ford Mondeo was produced from 2001 to 2007. Produced in Belgium, China, Vietnam and Taiwan.

In early 2000, Ford introduced the Ford Mondeo 3 at the Paris Motor Show. Production began in 2001 at the company's Belgian plant.

The car has become larger than its predecessor. The designer of the European branch of Ford - Chris Bird, developed a body project in accordance with the concept of Ford "new edge" - "a new edge", which means a mixture of sharp corners and smooth lines, oval and triangular shapes in the design.

The body was significantly strengthened: in terms of resistance to deformation, it became 60% stronger than its predecessor, the guarantee against through corrosion increased to 12 years, thanks to 24-stage metal processing during body assembly. The wheelbase has been increased by 150 mm, the track by 19 mm in front and 50 mm in the rear, the interior has become more spacious.

Having abandoned the Zetec engines, a new family of Duratec engines was installed on the Ford Mondeo 3: 1.8 and 2.0 liter gasoline (from 110 to 145 hp), 2.0 liter turbodiesel (from 90 to 130 hp), as well as 2.5 and 3 liter V6 engines.

The security system was supplemented with new electronic systems: in addition to ABS with an electronic brake force distribution system, an emergency braking assistance system (EBA) and was installed on the car.

The car was restyled in 2003 and 2005. Basically, the design and interior changed slightly: a new grille, headlights and taillights, fog lights. There were complete sets Titanium and Titanium X with chrome inserts and overlays on the doors in the color of titanium.

The release of the model ceased in 2007, after the release of the fourth generation Ford Mondeo, designed according to the new concept of kinetic design.

Technological features and characteristics

New options for the third generation Mondeo are a powerful audio system, the ability to install satellite navigation systems, a multimedia system with a touch-screen for the driver and two independent screens for the rear passengers.

The "charged" version of the Mondeo - ST220, was 20 hp more powerful than its predecessor. It was equipped with a 3.0 liter 6-cylinder 24-valve engine (223 hp). With it, the car accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.4 seconds, the maximum speed was 243 km / h.

Safety elements in the cabin were supplemented with side air curtains on the front and rear seats, side airbags for the driver and front passenger.

Interesting Facts

The car was developed by the company's specialists in a fairly short time - 24 months.

Before the first presentation at the auto show, the model existed only in a computer version. This approach was rare for that time, although it was already used by the company to develop the Ford Mondeo 2 station wagon. The innovation was criticized more than once, but the result proved the progressiveness of the new Ford technology.

The famous automotive journalist Jeremy Clarkson used the Ford Mondeo 3 as his personal car, and included a test drive version of the Ford Mondeo ST 220 in a series of his car shows.

Pros and cons in comparison with classmates

The spacious interior of the model is one of the most advanced in the class. The body has also become larger - Ford Mondeo 3 has surpassed its classmates in size - Citroen C5 (11 cm), Volkswagen Passat (2 cm), Renault Laguna II (15 cm), Peugeot 406 (17 cm).

Ford wins in carrying capacity - it is 50 kg more than the Mazda 6. The 510-liter trunk is more than the Volkswagen Passat and Renault Laguna II.

For the first time in its class, the Ford Mondeo 3 was fitted with 16-inch tires as standard. On request, 17- and even 18-inch wheels were installed. Peugeot 406 and Volkswagen Passat were initially equipped with only 15-inch.

But the main advantage of the model is its excellent handling, which has become a reference in the class.

Visibility Ford Mondeo 3 is not very good - it is limited by a high stern and small exterior mirrors.

Numbers and awards

The model won "Car of the Year" in 2001 and "Best Family Car" in 2006 according to the British edition of "What Car?" In 2001, it was also named "Best Car" by Top Gear magazine. In 2005, EuroNCAP awarded the Ford Mondeo 5 stars in crash tests.

During the release of the third generation Ford Mondeo in Russia, more than 60 thousand cars were sold.

The Ford Mondeo appeared in showrooms in 1993 and is still in production today. The name Mondeo comes from the French word "Monde" - "peace". The first generation is called Mk I.

This car is available in various versions - 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback and 5-door station wagon. Equipment is of a high standard. The doors of the car are reinforced with a bar to protect against side collisions, and the design of the seats eliminates "diving".

The first generation Ford Mondeo was equipped with petrol 4-cylinder engines (Zetec) with a volume of 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liters. The engine was with the latest at that time systems of distributed sequential fuel injection and direct ignition (without a distributor), as well as fuel evaporation control systems, exhaust gas recirculation and a three-fraction catalytic converter.

Since September 1994, a V-shaped 6-cylinder engine (Duratec) with a volume of 2.5 liters was installed on cars. This 24-valve engine is compact and lightweight. It was designed and built in the USA, where it was installed on the Ford Countour (similar models for the US market).

Mondeo Mk II

A significant update of the Ford Mondeo models took place in October 1996. This modification belongs to the first generation, but has the name Mk II. The front and rear parts of the body have changed, the suspension and steering have been upgraded, and they have also been equipped with the EEC-V engine management system.

The engine is mounted transversely, the transmission is automatic (4-speed) or manual (5-speed) with a cable or hydraulic drive. Fully independent suspension on all MacPherson type wheels with anti-roll bars.

The steering is equipped with a hydraulic booster. The braking system is also equipped with a vacuum servo booster. Rear brakes - drum, front - disc. On some modifications, front and rear disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS).

Mondeo Mk III

The second generation Ford Mondeo (Mk III) was produced from 2000 to 2007. There were modifications of the sedan, hatchback and station wagon. This car has become almost 300 mm longer than the first generation. Twice during this period (in 2003 and 2005) the appearance was slightly updated. This model was equipped with petrol (1.8, 2.0, 2.5 L4 and 3.0 V6) and diesel turbocharged engines (2.0 and 2.2 liters).

The new automatic transmission of this Durashift car has 5 gears and can be used in manual mode. The manual has 6 gears.

In 2003, the Mondeo received a larger chrome grille, a new instrument panel made of higher quality materials, electronic climate control and automatic transmission control on the steering wheel. Also, for all modifications, an on-board computer and cruise control became standard.

Mondeo Mk IV

The third generation Ford Mondeo (Mk IV) was introduced at the end of 2006. Sales began in May 2007 and continued until 2014. There were five different trim levels - Edge, Zetec, Ghia, Titanium and Titanium X.

The new platform allowed the use of Volvo's new 5-cylinder petrol engine. V-shaped 6-cylinder engines were no longer used. Gasoline engines have the following volumes - 1.6, 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 liters. Diesel engines of four different volumes - 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 liters.

The steering has an electronic-hydraulic system, which increases the feedback sensitivity and helps to reduce fuel consumption. The inside of the Mk IV uses a 5-inch LCD display to display the trip computer and satellite navigation. In the basic configuration there is a climate control system. In addition, there is an option to start the car without a key using a button on the dashboard.

Released in 2000, the third-generation Ford Mondeo hatchback went through two updates. The first of them took place in June 2003 and was very thorough. The model has received many large and small changes in the exterior, interior and power unit. Externally, the updated Ford Mondeo hatchback is easy to identify by the new bumper with a large air intake, large trapezoidal fog lamps, and a chrome grille frame with a mesh pattern. The rear lights and side mirrors have also been updated. Even better materials have been used in the interior, the instrument panel has been upgraded, and a number of changes have been associated with improved sound insulation. Additional changes were made to the exterior in September 2005 - light modification of the front and rear of the car.

The interior of the updated hatchback Ford Mondeo also received a number of changes. Of the most significant, the following can be listed: for example, here is a different frame with a clock and emergency gang buttons and turning on the heating of the rear and windshield, a different climate unit, the lower frame has also changed, where the transmission lever is installed. In general, the interior of the third generation Mondeo is distinguished by an increased quality of finishes, improved ergonomics. A sufficient number and range of adjustments of the driver's seat, as well as a steering column with adjustment in two planes, will allow you to comfortably sit behind the wheel, and so that the legs of the rear passengers are not cramped, there are deep recesses in the backs of the front seats. In the standard Core package, the updated Mondeo hatchback offered only the most necessary (multi-steering wheel, power accessories, air conditioning, audio system), but for an extra charge you could get alloy wheels, fog lights, heated washer nozzles and other equipment.

After restyling Ford Mondeo, in addition to the previous engines with a working volume of 1.8 liters (gasoline) and 2.0 liters (gasoline, diesel), as well as a 24-valve 2.5-liter V6, received a new powerful gasoline version with 3.0- liter V6 engine (204 hp), as well as a 2.2-liter TDCi diesel engine (155 hp). The most common option that can be found on sale is the Mondeo 1.8 MT hatchback. With an engine power of 125 hp. (179 Nm), he is able to gain a “hundred” in 10.9 seconds and a top speed of 205 km / h. There are also cars with a 2.0-liter engine (145 hp, 190 Nm) - here the possibilities are higher: 9.9 seconds to accelerate 0-100 km / h and 215 km / h “maximum speed”.

Hatchback Ford Mondeo 2003-2007 has an independent suspension of all wheels. In all modifications, the car received power steering and disc brakes (ventilated in front). The body dimensions of the hatchback Mondeo 2003-2007 are: length - 4731 mm, width - 1812 mm, height - 1429. The wheelbase of 2754 mm provides a good supply of space for rear passengers. Ground clearance is low - 120 mm. The trunk volume of the hatchback is 500 liters. Folding rear seats allow you to increase it to 1290 liters.

The third generation Ford Mondeo hatchback has an optimized body structure in terms of safety (4 Euro NCAP stars). Front airbags - with a two-stage opening, depending on the strength of the impact and the position of the driver and passenger. In addition, the car received side airbags and inflatable curtains over the doorways. Safety pedals, active head restraints, child seat anchorages, seat belt warning system are all standard, along with anti-lock brakes (with electronic brake force control and brake assist) plus an optional stabilization system.

Ford Mondeo was often used as a corporate vehicle - this is a good reason to take a more rigorous approach to checking the technical condition of the car. In terms of back seating, the Mondeo is far from the best in class. The chassis requires increased attention, in addition, the car has a low ground clearance (after hitting a curb, the lower bumper skirt can come off). Of the annoying "little things" are often called a breaking driver's seat height adjuster, an inconvenient opening of the hood. The body needs to be checked for corrosion. In 2007, the next generation came out.

Ford Mondeo III owner reviews

Ford Mondeo III, 2002

I can confidently call the Ford Mondeo III my old and good friend, who never let me down! I have been driving a car for four years now and the mileage here is not “childish”, but it feels like you just drove a car from a car dealership! In terms of appearance design, and the way the interior is made - everything is perfect, I really like it! The biggest plus is that my "Ford" and did not think to spoil my mood. You just ride it and enjoy life, but just don’t forget that he is your friend, which means you treat him like a friend and don’t forget that you need to go through all planned maintenance, do not skimp on “consumables”. In terms of driving performance, handling - this has already been said and retold so much that I will not repeat myself, what to say about what everyone already knows.

The only drawback of the Mondeo III is that it always needs only high quality gasoline, at least so that the gas station you visit is of a more or less well-known brand. Somehow, when I just started driving a car, I stopped by our “local man” to refuel, I call them oil traders, so then after their fuel there were a lot of problems. "Ford" refuses to "digest" such gasoline, so I had to remove the tank, clean everything there, replace filters, fuel pump. Now I have already been taught by bitter experience, so I only go to proven gas stations and everything is super with my car - it drives me like a breeze.

Advantages : interior and exterior design, driving performance, handling.

Flaws : only high quality gasoline is needed.

Ford Mondeo III, 2003

During the operation of the Ford Mondeo III has never failed, judging adequately. Comfortable rear cabin, passengers behind the front row seats do not cause much inconvenience. Roomy trunk. A full-fledged spare wheel is an important distinguishing feature from modern cars. The downside of this car, like some other Fords, is the way the hood opens. Just pointless, never understood "Henry". The air from the stove blows very well, the interior warms up quickly in winter. But hard to start in cold weather. With a new battery in Finland this year at -35C it refused to start. I had to use a tractor from a local owner. Thank God that the manual transmission! Got it, all is well. I sin on our gasoline.

Speed indicators are good, I didn’t squeeze everything out - it’s noisy. But 180 km / h - "flies" easily and confidently. You can talk without raising your voice. Oil with a run of 90,000 km ate 300 grams (from "MAX" to the middle of the level). Once filled, and ride. "Servicemen" say that there is no need to top up. The natural "waste" of oil from replacement to replacement, i.e. at 120,000 km - the norm. Spare parts have their own nuances, you can’t predict everything, a lot of European “non-original” of decent quality, at an affordable price.

Advantages : I like the rear suspension, the child was constantly sleeping in the back. I think the 2-liter engine is the "golden mean". The dynamics of the car is amazing.

Flaws : expensive original spare parts.

Ford Mondeo III, 2005

At first, the feelings were exclusively "euphoric" - this is the first new car in the family. Everything is clean and smells good. Over time, the former gloss disappeared, but positive feelings remained. The car is very comfortable for its class and then the price. The seats of the Ford Mondeo III are covered with high-quality and pleasant to the touch fabric, they do not heat up much in the heat in summer, you can get into an unheated car without discomfort in winter, but in extreme cases there is multi-stage heating of the front seats. On the doors and dashboard there is soft plastic, a leather steering wheel, in the middle of the “beard” there is a representative Sony radio tape recorder. In general, the interior is quite classic. Handling - I didn’t notice any special flaws here, well, I wouldn’t note any outstanding abilities of the car either. Yes, it confidently enters the turn, but at the same time you should not forget about speed. The brakes of the Ford Mondeo III are very grippy and have never failed. Comfort in the cabin when driving at the level. Noise isolation is head and shoulders above most "Japanese", the plastic is soft and therefore there are no extraneous sounds, well, it's comfortable to sit - it's comfortable to steer, the review is again good.

Dynamics: here the car loses. And, it seems to me, it's all about the machine, yes, the "ancient" 4-speed automatic. You go 100 km / h, you press the “sneaker” on the floor, the car with the sound of a trolley bus picking up speed slowly moves forward, this is especially felt when fully loaded. And what I also did not like was the slurred gas pedal. Well, the most important thing is safety. Checked on myself personally. The machine worked 100 percent and if it didn’t save a life, then it definitely saved it from serious injuries. I was driving along the new Riga at about 180 km / h, a “Nine” turned around in front of me in a technological turn. He slowed down twenty meters, tried to leave, but failed. "Nine" rolled over, turned me around. Was fastened, did not feel anything, not a single scratch. Passengers from the back seat of the nine with severe injuries were treated for more than a year. Now everyone is healthy.

Advantages : comfort. Finishing. Safety.

Flaws : automatic.

Ford Mondeo III, 2004

According to the first sensations, the Ford Mondeo III seemed very frisky and dynamic, spacious, comfortable and soft. I liked the large (for a sedan) trunk. Mondeo has a very good acceleration, it’s nice to keep it at speeds up to (120) further, it’s not comfortable and expensive. Maximum accelerated to 180 km / h once as an experiment. It feels like he can easily do more, but I did not find a suitable road for such a feat, and there was no desire. It holds the road well: on long turns at a speed of about 100 km / h, even being thrown up on a bump, it did not have to be caught. When changing lanes in winter across a track, you don’t need to catch it either, it holds the road perfectly. Brakes are a separate issue. Compared to many conventional cars, the Ford Mondeo III stands stock-still under heavy braking. But it's summer. In winter, due to the large weight of the car and ABS, braking is quite long. There is plenty of room ahead for both driver and passenger. There is also plenty of space in the back. The knees don't budge. Can comfortably fit 3 medium-sized men (70-100 kg). Also in the background, 2 children in car seats and a wife in the middle of them feel good. Consumes about 12 liters per 100 km. Doesn't eat oil at all. The pads last a long time. The car is reliable in handling. Never failed. It rarely breaks, spare parts are inexpensive, everything is available for disassembly. Much interchangeable from other Fords. It is being repaired at home in the garage with my own hands, but I have 2 of my excellent craftsmen.

Advantages : nimble. Maneuverable. Good brakes. Excellent road holding. Reliable. Inexpensive and easy to maintain. Heated front and rear windows. Spacious interior and trunk.

Flaws : short. Clings to curbs, can not call in the "winter" parking space. Weird hood latch. Front wheel bearings serve 20 thousand km.

Ford Mondeo III, 2006

The overall impression of the Ford Mondeo III is excellent. Ford was operated from the moment of purchase until April 2013, traveled 101,500 km, visited and felt for myself, and more than once, almost any conditions, ranging from frosts under -30 and ending with heat over +40, in snowfalls and hailstorms in extremely low visibility. Both are quite long (Moscow, Ukraine, Astrakhan region, Crimea). During all this time, there were no serious complaints. At the same time, he once flew into a pit on the road near Kursk at night, almost on the “front road” into a pit, breaking both right wheels and killing one disc, but even the suspension, as it turned out after checking, did not warp in any way. Alignment-collapse, however, still set it up once during operation - but this is already supposed to be done periodically. Never failed and in the cold with the launch. True, it has been used almost daily since 2009 (the battery is constantly charging). Driving qualities. I think it's excellent. Even in extreme braking, even in a sharp turn with such, it always clearly follows the wheel and obeys it. I like to drive, with the passport 9.8 up to a hundred, it completely allowed, the dimensions were very well felt. Each sandpiper, of course, praises his swamp, but every day, driving 20 km around the city and 20 on the highway to work, even in the worst snowy or wet weather, I stuck out in the high-speed left lane and rarely interfered with cars coming from behind. In bad weather, perhaps, these are even one-time situations in general - at the same time, the car instilled only a sense of confidence. Consumption of 7.8-8.2 l / 100 km on the highway and somewhere around 10.5-11.5 in the city, given Moscow traffic jams, is quite the norm. Comfort. Excellent. Now I have moved to a new Mercedes "E-shku" - more comfortable, of course, but not radically. Plus, Ford has a higher ceiling (I'm 181 cm tall, I like sitting position). The salon is very spacious and the seats are comfortable. We traveled with a family of 4 adults for 1200 km - no problem.

Advantages : design. Ergonomics. Comfort. Finishing. Service availability. Adaptation to Russian conditions.

Flaws : small.

Ford Mondeo III, 2003

"Mondeo 3" 2003 1.8 MT, at that time I was the 4th owner with a mileage of 153 thousand (rewound by itself, but that's not the point). The engine, in principle, suited me (125 hp), I’m not a racer, I drove 80-110, I overclocked it a couple of times for the sake of interest, how much it will go, the maximum speed is 205, it doesn’t go anymore. Moreover, it accelerates slowly due to its weight. For normal driving on the highway and in the city, it’s enough, Gasoline eats medium (well, for its class, of course) - mixed consumption 8 liters, highway 6 liters at 80-90 km, city up to 12 liters with climate. I ate up the oil at a frisky and high speed, filled the floor with synthetics, changed every 8 thousand, 5 liters all left. In principle, what ate up a little was not particularly annoying, the car is not new. There were no problems with the engine at all, but the generator equipment (the light flickered), the fan, the pump were replaced. I did the handbrake myself (the handbrake jams and does not let go) I eliminated it with a conventional reinforced spring. On the chassis - soundproofing is rather weak, but the suspension and weight of the Ford Mondeo III do their job. The car holds the road very well, and there is no difference between 80 km / h and 180 km / h, everything is clear, the side wind does not blow away. Beautiful appearance and interior at a height, really liked the soft upholstery (torpedo and door panels), which for 12 years have not been rubbed or scratched. The seats are not to say that they are excellent, they are comfortable in front, the back never got tired, and in the back there is a jamb with latches for seat belts, I immediately unscrewed them, of course, there are a lot of places, but if you turn while driving, then it’s not comfortable to sit in the back, people will feel like firewood , which will be thrown, then to the left, then to the right. Now for maintenance. Expensive, but I did not buy the original and did not particularly feel the pressure of finances.

Advantages : torquey engine. Comfortable salon. Reliable if followed.

Flaws : soundproofing is rather weak.

Ford Mondeo III, 2005

I have owned a Ford Mondeo III for over 10 years. Attachments - several times bearings (hubs), springs in a circle, rear struts. A couple of years ago I changed the thermostat, the other day (finally) the generator flew. I changed the battery a month ago, it started perfectly, but - 10 years and winter is ahead. The rest - no problem. Of course, consumables changed (pads, I changed the discs once), I try to change the oil every 10-12 thousand (I pour my native "Ford"). Several times with a full load we rode south, to Sevastopol, we regularly go to Finland - all without the slightest hint of problems, the consumption on the highway even after 170 thousand is about 7 liters per hundred. I'm happy with the car.

Advantages : budget cost of spare parts. Maintainability. Ease of driving. Comfort (especially in winter conditions). Reliability.

Flaws : Hood lock. Small washer reservoir.
