Engine oil for Renault Scenic 2. Engine oil for Renault Scenic

The first generation of the Renault Scenic compact minivan debuted in 1996. The novelty used the platform of the Megane I model and became the first car of this class in Europe. After 3 years, the minivan received an update that affected both the design (the car became more different from the hatchback) and the engine compartment. Before restyling, Scenic was equipped with a 1.9-liter diesel engine (65-99 hp) and three 8-valve gasoline engines for 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 liters (75, 90 and 115 hp), and since 1999 all installations have become 16-valve, which affected their power - now the car received 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines with a power range from 95 to 140 horses. The most charged Scenic appeared a year later in the RX4 version. Read more about the amount of oil poured into motors and its types - later in the article.

The release of Scenic II took place after the presentation of the Megane II model. The minivan took as a basis not only the platform of the latter, but also its best technical and design solutions. Petrol engines with the same volume, but already with 98, 115 and 136-165 hp, were now responsible for the operation of the car. on board (for displacement 1.4, 1.6 and two versions 2.0 respectively). At the same time, the range of turbodiesels has expanded significantly: 1.5, 1.9, 2.0 liters, producing 80-150 horses. The restyling of the second Scenic took place in 2006, it brought the model a new 6-band AT and a seven-seater modification. Russian drivers had a choice only among petrol trim levels.

Serial production of generation 3 lasted from 2009 to 2015 and included two intermediate updates in 2011 and 2013. The base of the car is Megane III. The domestic market offered only 2 petrol versions: with 1.6 and 2.0 liter engines (110 and 138 hp). And if the first one received a manual transmission, then Renault installed a CVT on the second one. Generation IV, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016, never made it to Russia. Outwardly, the novelty now looks more like an SUV, and 95-160-horsepower diesel and 100-130-horsepower gasoline units are responsible for the dynamics of the Scenic.

Prices and deadlines

According to the recommendations of the French car manufacturer, Renault Scenic diesel oil should be changed after 10 thousand kilometers. Under extreme operating conditions, this interval may be reduced. The car owner can determine the need to change the Renault Scenic 2 diesel oil or a car of a different version by the following signs:

  • the oil pressure indicator lamp on the instrument panel comes on;
  • after buying a new car, the break-in process is completed - it is necessary to change the engine oil and install a new oil filter;
  • the oil on the dipstick is black, when rubbing the droplets between the fingers, solid particles are felt.

When changing Renault Scenic diesel oil, you should strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions set out in the technical documentation for a particular car model. Depending on the modification of the internal combustion engine, the amount of oil required to replace the Renault Scenic 2 diesel is 5-5.5 liters. Car owners who neglect the recommendations for the timely replacement of Renault Scenic 2 diesel oil are at great risk - an insufficient level of fuel and lubricants can cause accelerated wear of the crankshaft liners and, as a result, significant costs for engine overhaul.

A competent Renault Scenic diesel oil change at an affordable price is one of the services provided in Moscow by qualified specialists of the BOSCH authorized service center. The operation requires the presence of a lift and a special tool, knowledge of the technological sequence and nuances of changing Renault Scenic 2 diesel oil or another version. An important condition is the installation of a new original filter, or a filter element recommended by the manufacturer as an alternative.

In order for the Renault Scenic diesel oil change to not have unpleasant consequences, you should prepare everything you need in advance: lifting equipment, tools, waste drain containers, new seals, etc. Before changing the Renault Scenic 2 diesel oil, warm up the engine so that the drained oil had a consistency that ensured its rapid and complete draining.

To change Renault Scenic diesel oil, you must:

  • install the car on a horizontal surface, for example, a flyover or a viewing hole;
  • dismantle the motor mudguard;
  • unscrew the oil filter using a special tool or a 27 socket;
  • unscrew the drain plug using a four-sided socket wrench for 8, collect the drained oil in a substituted container;
  • service the drain hole and plug;
  • after draining the mining, install the plug in place, having previously replaced the sealing gasket, tighten with a force of 30 Nm;
  • lubricate the sealing ring of the new filter with a thin layer of oil and wrap it by hand until the seal fits snugly, then tighten the filter another half turn;
  • change the Renault Scenic 2 diesel oil by filling the oil filler neck with the required amount of fuel and lubricants;
  • start the engine, carry out a test drive, turn it off, 2 minutes after it stops, check the oil level on the dipstick, top up if necessary.

The first generation Renault Scenic minivan was introduced in 1996. The car was created on the basis of the Megane model and has common components and assemblies with it: 1.4-2.0-liter gasoline engines and a 1.9-liter turbodiesel, 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission. Since 2000, an all-wheel drive version of the Scenic RX4 has been produced. In 2003 - 2009, the second generation Scenic was produced, in 2009 - 2016 - the third. In both generations, a 7-seat modification of the Grand Scenic was available. In 2016, the fourth generation of the model appeared.

general information

It is not uncommon for Renault car owners to find traces of engine oil in the engine compartment on the parts of the power unit or other associated components. This may be evidence of serious malfunctions and the first signal to visit a service station as soon as possible. With abundant manifestation of traces of liquid on the body of various parts, the operation of the car should be stopped until the causes are clarified and repair work is carried out.

Taking into account the features of most representatives of the Renault model range, which were produced in the same period of time as the Renault Scenic 2, it should be noted that there were widespread cases of damage to hermetic joints that caused leakage.

Most Common Causes

Given the numerous reviews of owners and users of Renault Scenic 2 cars, as well as the observations of specialists from accredited and official service stations, the most common causes of fluid on the power unit housing should be highlighted.

So, in many Scenic 2 cars with high mileage, the oil separation system can become clogged. The main cause of this malfunction may be the formation of various slags during the operation of the car at high speeds and the engine.

As a result of the formation of such plugs and blockages, splashing from the neck, which houses the revision oil dipstick, is possible. In most cases, this occurs at high engine speeds. The initial measures that can solve this problem will be to replace the rubber gasket that serves as a seal for the probe. Experts recommend that in the presence of such a deficiency, fill the liquid to an average level.

In addition, a common cause is failure or damage to the surfaces of the piston rings. In this case, due to leakage of exhaust gases, the substance is squeezed out from under the valve cover into the crankcase. In this case, we are talking, first of all, about impaired crankcase ventilation. If such a reason is confirmed, it is necessary to resort to a major overhaul of the power unit of the Renault Scenic 2 car.

A common cause of oil stains and streaks on the engine case of the Scenic 2 model is poor-quality sealing of the valve cover. In this case, we can talk about either the use of low-quality sealant, or a violation of the sealing technology of this unit. It is possible to correct this defect by performing a second sealing operation, but in this case, it will be necessary to re-replace the drive rollers, which in itself is financially expensive. In the event that it is still necessary to resort to replacing the sealing material, thoroughly rinse all connecting parts and remove the smallest traces of liquid. Otherwise, the sealing agent will not be able to adhere tightly to the surface of the parts, which will cause repeated leaks.

In the event that there are oil stains on the reactive gear lever and the power unit pan at the rear, the main cause is damage to the pan gasket.

In this case, it is necessary to replace this part, since further operation of a car with such damage is fraught with a significant decrease in the working pressure in the engine. In the case of diagnostics and elimination of the aforementioned problem, attention should be paid to. In most cases, leaks in this area are the cause of the violation of the integrity of the stuffing box. Replacing these parts is quite laborious and can only be done with a complete disassembly of the engine. In addition, it is recommended to replace the camshaft seals in parallel, which will eliminate additional work on re-disassembling the engine.

According to experts, there are also cases of incorrect operation of the camshaft pump of the Scenic 2 model. In most of these cases, the cause was sticking or breaking of the main gasket, due to which the level of the substance significantly decreased and streaks appeared at the bolted joints. In this case, a thorough diagnostic examination of the condition of the nozzles and their connections should be carried out. If there are signs of leakage from under them, it is necessary to additionally seal the joints of the pipes with the elements of the power unit or tighten the clamps, increase the tension of the fastening latches.

When Scenic 2 owners carry out complex repair work or operations to replace the lubricant on their own, in addition, even in garage conditions, there are often cases of overtightening of connections with subsequent thread failure. It can also cause leaks at certain operating pressures. The recommendations of experts are the need to use special tools with sensors or mechanisms for monitoring the level of tightening of connections. This will avoid excessive pressure on the threaded connections and ensure reliable sealing of the connections. Also, when replacing it yourself, there are often cases of insufficient tightening of the threaded connection between the seating rod and the filter housing itself. To do this, it is necessary to use special devices, which, in addition to a convenient girth of the filter housing, allow you to tighten the connection to the required level.

Another area where signs of a leak are most often observed is the distributor seat. To eliminate such a leak, it is necessary to remove this device and, after thoroughly cleaning it from traces of liquid, carry out high-quality sealing.

The appearance of oil stains in the engine compartment of a car should always be a cause for concern, however, in some cases, with minimal repair skills, you can identify and eliminate the cause of the leak yourself without resorting to the services of service stations.
