The main part of the rivals is presented in the popular size 205/55R16 of the speed category V (240 km/h), but there are a couple of slow ones (H - 210 km/h) and a trio of faster ones (W - 270 km/h). It is noteworthy that high-speed tires are only from Japanese companies. Why on Russian roads there is more than a double speed reserve, they know, apparently, only in the Land of the Rising Sun.
And in order to compare the position of the competitors in the market, they were divided into three price categories: expensive (cost 3,500 rubles or more), medium (from 3,000 to 3,500 rubles) and economy class (cheaper than 3,000 rubles). Let's see who competes with whom, who trades at real prices, and who breaks them.
For lovers of premium brands
Thick wallets are ready to shell out 3900 rubles. for Pirelli, which took second place in the ZR test. Cool tire - literally nothing to complain about.
"Bridgestone", "Michelin" and "Continental" can be bought for the same money - 3850 rubles. But in our test, they performed differently. The most profitable tire of this trio in terms of price and quality ratio (4.05) is, of course, Michelin, the leader of our rating. Handsome, and only: stops and is controlled on a dry road better than anyone. And it won't save in the wet.
Bridgestone and Continental have close price/quality indices: 4.32 and 4.36, respectively. And the difference in points scored is insignificant - both fell short of the 900 mark, which, by our definition, separates excellent tires from good ones. It turns out that both of them are by no means the most profitable purchase.
It should be noted that Continental, whose products usually lead in terms of braking properties, sharpened this model for smooth, slippery asphalt, which is why it lost 2 meters to its leading rivals on rough. "Bridgestone" slows down worse than all premium models, yielding to the result of the leader by more than 2 meters. A little cheaper than Goodyear. With 930 points, it is in fourth place, in terms of price / quality ratio (4.03) it is comparable to the leader of the Michelin test. A little cheaper than Yokohama (3720 rubles) and Nokian (3700 rubles). But the final scores are very different: 933 and 886. No wonder - Nokian has the best braking on wet surfaces, and Yokohama is noticeably behind both dry and wet.
Closes the system of expensive tires "Toyo" (3550 rubles, 912 points, fifth place in the class). A strong tire, it is included in the best six in terms of grip properties, winning back in braking from fellow countrymen "Bridgestone" and "Yokohama" almost a meter on a dry road and one and a half on a wet one.
A little cheaper
The highest prices (3200 rubles) are distinguished by Hankook and Kumho. But in terms of characteristics, Hankook is the leader in the price class, showing an excellent result for its price (917 points and fifth place in the absolute).
In my opinion, a worthwhile choice: in dry braking, Hankook outperformed more than half of the premium tires, and in wet braking, it is practically the leader. Behavior on the road in all modes is smooth, without dips and emissions.
"Kumho" was able to score only 876 points. Unstable - grip on wet roads surpasses Bridgestone, Yokohama and Continental premiums, but is inferior to them on dry roads.
Cheaper "Nordman", scored 905 points and thus confirmed the reputation of an excellent tire. In terms of grip properties on dry and wet roads, it leaves behind the modestly braking three premiums, loses just a little to Hankook, but is not inferior to it in behavior on the road.
Even cheaper, for 3050 rubles, you can buy "Nexen". The price of savings is an increased braking distance both on wet and dry surfaces compared to the leaders. On the wet road lost 2.5 meters, and on dry - more than three. In addition, a complete "refusal" of sharp maneuvering.
prudent hostess
The economy list opens with Cordiant (2850 rubles). Good characteristics for this class are confirmed by 865 points scored, the price / quality ratio (3.29) is slightly above average. The braking distance will need to be increased compared to the more expensive Nexen by about one and a half meters, although extreme maneuvering will not require special skills.
Viatti argues with him. This model is slightly cheaper - 2800 rubles, but noticeably lags behind in points - 845, although it came out on the second place in the class. It stops on a wet road just like the Cordiant, and on a dry one one and a half meters further.
For even less money, 2700 rubles, you can buy the "Formula". She has 831 points. In terms of grip properties, it is comparable to the Cordiant, but the behavior during extreme maneuvering is as dangerous as that of the Neksen. In addition, these tires do not want to carry the car straight at high speed.
You can save another one and a half hundred by buying "Kontyre" for 2550 rubles - 782 points. But the stock, if necessary, will need to stop much more than in the case of using other tires. Compared to the leaders - two car bodies! And no sudden steering actions if you don’t want to lose control of the car and beat the neighbors in the lane.
Almost for nothing (2300 rubles) give the Chinese "Aeolus". It brakes a little better than Contyre, winning a meter from him on a dry road and three on a wet one. True, the leaders are inferior to 5-6 meters.

Once again we control the winners of the previous tests - Nokian-Hakka Green 185/60 R14 and Nokian-Hakka SUV 215/65 R16. And in the budget size, and in the size of the SUV, all tires are only Russian-made. But the release dates presented for the test and purchased differ by more than six months.
We minimized the number of comparative exercises by focusing on the antagonistic characteristics of rolling resistance and wet grip. But braking on a dry road was not ruled out. The data obtained are shown in the table.
As you can see, for small tires, the difference in antagonistic performance is less than 0.5%. SUV tires, even if we take into account the scatter vectors (consumption went in one direction, braking in the other), differ by no more than 2.5%. Practically the same difference - 3% - was given by braking on dry pavement. Let me remind you that all manufacturers consider summer tires to be almost the same if the difference in performance is within 2%. And the allowable similarity limit for summer tires is up to 5%.
So the test for the stability of the characteristics of the Nokian tires passed!
Very soon the cold will recede, which means it's time to think about choosing the appropriate tires for your car. To meet spring fully armed will help summer tire test 2014, whose leaders are included in our rating of the best rubber of the year.
The most popular tire sizes with a radius of R14 to R18 from different manufacturers took part in the tests. Based on the test results, the average brand score was displayed.
Testing and Evaluation Methodology
This methodology was developed by the Automobile Club of Europe (ACE) in cooperation with the German Technical Inspection Organization (GTU).
Venue: Pirelli training ground in Italy. Braking on dry and wet pavement from 80 to 20 km/h with determination of the braking distance. Hydroplaning test on track with 7mm. layer of water. Wet grip is rated at an average speed of 80 m circles. Noise levels are rated according to ECE R117. The cost of tires was also evaluated in terms of price / quality ratio.

Summer tire rating 2014:
High-tech tires of the fourth generation provide controllability of the car on any road. The tread pattern ensures moisture wicking, while the rubber compound ensures reliable traction.
The test of summer tires included not only models of European brands. Korean tires Kumho Tires will suit even those drivers who prefer an aggressive driving style. Reinforced tire construction guarantees the stability of the contact patch during any maneuvers. The rubber compound has a high silica content.
8. Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 K117
Wide longitudinal grooves on the tread provide unhindered movement on wet surfaces. The staggered grooves on the tires act as wear indicators and also help clean the tread.
This model is new in 2014. The HM marking in the model name means "High Mileage", i.e. "tires for high mileage". Increased travel life results in a flatter, wider tire contour. The special design of the sipes and the composition of the rubber compound also prevent abrasion.
In 2013, tires from the Nokian Line series won the summer tire tests of the German publications Auto Test and Auto Bild. Experts note the short braking distance, low noise level and optimal balance of driving performance.
The lightweight design of this model provides lower rolling resistance than the Potenza RE050. The use of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which reinforces the sidewalls, has improved grip. Despite the sporty characteristics, the tires are distinguished by low noise levels.
The latest developments from Goodyear technologists have reduced noise levels, improved grip and reduced fuel consumption, because. The lightweight design of the tire helps reduce the amount of energy needed to overcome rolling resistance.
Initially, these ultra-low profiles were developed for sports cars and only later went into mass production. The rubber compound from which the tread is made is characterized by a high content of synthetic polymers and silicon dioxide, which provides reliable grip.
A summer tire test carried out by professionals made it possible to select the most reliable models of well-known brands. Sport Maxx RT is a novelty that combines the best practices of the company's technologists. An adaptive tread compound provides traction, while massive outer shoulder blocks increase the car's handling and stability.
have been tested at speeds up to 300 km/h. Compared to the previous generation, the top-ranked summer tire demonstrates a 10% reduction in rolling resistance and a 13% increase in mileage in tests, as well as a significant reduction in braking distances on dry and wet roads.
Video review of the testing process:
Winter is coming, it's time to buy tires. And summer! Now you can buy them at a very reasonable price. And in order for you to be guided by what to buy, we publish this rating of this year's summer tires. Auto Bild selected 50 of the most serious summer tire submissions of 2014 and then rigorously tested the top 15 by running the tire through a wet/dry mix, testing for durability and noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) . We tested tires in one of the most popular sizes - 225/50 R17, and the test was carried out on a BMW 3-series car.
Premium Tires
First of all, the test was focused on performance on wet surfaces and on the cost of passing a certain distance (miles). Stand out Michelin with their Michelin Primacy 3, striking a fine balance thanks to the tire's excellent overall performance in addition to extremely low wear rates. Pirelli confidently took second place with improved P7 Cinturato Eco Impact, A Continental rounded out the top three with their Sport Contact 5.
Surprisingly in the fight for the 4th position in the ranking Fulda with model sport control beat Goodyear, and yet Goodyear is the owner of the Fulda brand, which is a sub-brand. And all thanks to the excellent value of SportControl tires. At the same time, a similar model from Dunlop — SportMaxx RT– ended up in 13th position due to extremely high wear and tear, but at the same time scored points in all other indicators.
Tires Bridgestone finished the test second from the end - and again due to high wear, which is simply unusual for tires of this brand.
Other tires
As mentioned, the Fuldas performed very well, scoring high on the comfort side, they performed admirably in terms of performance on a low-price pair. Sava, another brand good year, finished in 6th place, showing itself as a potential mid-range leader.

Summary table of test results:
Previously, AutoPortal wrote about and.
Most tires belong to the speed category H (up to 210 km / h). However, there are no rules without exceptions, so the list contains both slower and one faster participant. The leading position is unconditionally occupied by Pirelli-Chinturato P1 - 945 points. But "best" does not mean "expensive"! The value for money of 2.43 is close to the average.
Second place, with 939 points, is occupied by Russian-made Nokian-Hakka Green. The price / quality ratio is significantly higher here: 2.77.
The third on the podium is KontiPremiumContact 5 with 925 points. The ratio of price and quality is slightly more favorable than that of Nokian - 2.70.
The younger brother of Nokian, Nordman SX, of Russian origin, literally leaned against the Portuguese "German" (924 points). The difference with "Conti" is nothing at all - only one point, but in terms of price-quality ratio (2.27), the "northern man" is much more attractive.
Fifth line, with a slight lag, is occupied by Hankook-Kinergy eco. The number of points scored is 903, and in terms of price and quality (2.44), it competes with the leader of the Pirelli test.
Almost without delay, "BF-Goodrich g-Grip" follows. The model is only a point weaker than the Hungarian "Korean", although from a different speed group (up to 190 km / h). And its price / quality indicator is the most profitable among the first six participants after Nordman - 2.38.
Seventh place, to our surprise, was taken by the Chinese "GT-Reidiel Champiro VP1". 889 points - a definite breakthrough, the price-quality ratio is also quite good - 2.19. By the way, such success is the exception rather than the rule for Chinese manufacturers.
In eighth place, earning slightly less - 886 points, is the Cordiant Road Runner with an even better value for money: 2.14.
Having scored 883 points each, two tires unite the ninth and tenth places: the long-lived Amtel-Planet T-301, which was released already in 2006, and almost the same old man Toyota Proxes CF1. The Planet T-301 model is the most profitable purchase according to the results of our test: price / quality - 1.98, and Proxes CF1 competes with Pirelli and Hankook in this indicator (2.49). "Bridgestone" with the model "MY-02 Sport Style" was able to score only 878 points - 11th place. The ratio of price and quality is the most disadvantageous: 2.87. In 12th place is a slow Yokohama model called the BlueAirs, which scored 865 points. However, she has a price-performance ratio of 2.43, much more adequate than that of the Bridge.
Thirteenth is the Korean Nexen-Class Premier CP641. The result is 2 points worse than that of the "Japanese" from the Philippines, and in terms of price-quality ratio (2.49), the purchase is less profitable.
Closes the group of worthy tires (by our definition, these are the participants who scored at least 850 points) slow "Barum-Brillantis 2" with 852 points and value for money equal to 2.35.
"Contyre-Megapolis" has only 819 points in the piggy bank. The gap from the champion is 126 points! However, the ratio of price and quality, equal to 2.08, is quite favorable, if you do not take into account the stronger Amtel, which is located in the middle of the rating.
We express our gratitude to the tire manufacturing companies that provided their products for testing, as well as to the employees of the AVTOVAZ test site and the Togliatti company Volgashintorg for technical support.
