Each owner of a motor vehicle must check or change the engine oil. Moreover, some motorists do this on an ongoing basis, while others, after unsuccessful attempts, decide to entrust such an important occupation to professionals. The specialists of our Autopilot car service have been engaged in changing the oil in the Opel Astra J engine for many years. Over the years, the masters have accumulated vast experience, gained excellent practical skills and improved their theoretical knowledge, which allows them to provide the highest quality services.

Opel Astra J engine oil change in Moscow

The oil change in the Opel Astra J engine is carried out by the specialists of our Autopilot car service regularly or at a time. Also, the replacement of the lubricant is carried out in two ways. The first option is an express engine oil change using an accelerated method. The cost of such a service is relatively expensive, but it can significantly save time, which is more valuable today than money. The second option is a change of lubricant, which is accompanied by cleaning. This measure is optional, not mandatory, but it helps to greatly delay the time for the next procedure. Thanks to the preliminary flushing of the engine, the performance of the motor is increased, which is also the prevention of engine failure.

Do not change the Opel Astra J engine oil on your own

Replacing the lubricant for the motor is a very serious task, which is best entrusted to the professionals of the Autopilot car service. We use only proven materials, thanks to which we are confident in the high quality of the services provided, which we confirm with a 12-month guarantee for the work performed.

The manual for the Opel Astra j 1.4 states that the engine oil must be changed at intervals of max = 15 thousand km. The same applies to the oil filter. Ideally, you need to make allowances for Russian realities and change the oil more often: it is better to reduce the change interval to 10 thousand km, and the requirements for changing oil in turbo engines are even more stringent - after 7.5 thousand km.

What kind of oil and how much is needed for replacement?

To find out exactly how much oil you need to fill in, you will need to look into the service book, because the exact figure depends on the type of engine. Cars Opel Astra j 1.4, turbocharged, equipped with A14NET / NEL engines. For this engine, you will need 5W-30 oil, when replacing, you need to fill in about 3.5 liters.

So, prepare a new oil and filter, a TORX 45 key, a 24 head, a funnel for filling the oil and go ahead to work.

Oil change process

Warm up the engine to 90°C - this is the operating temperature for a car with a turbocharged engine, Opel Astra J 1.4. After turning off the engine, wait about 15 minutes for the oil to cool slightly. As always, such work is carried out after the car is driven onto a lift or into a viewing hole, do not forget to set the car on the handbrake.

  1. Open the oil filler neck.
  2. Having unscrewed fasteners of protection of the bottom, remove it. Unscrew the drain plug (a TORX 45 key will help), let the oil drain completely into the five-liter container that you set up in advance. Replace the gasket on the plug to avoid engine oil leaks. After that, tighten the neck plug.
  3. Remove the oil filter using a 24 socket.
  4. Replace the filter element in it. Also change the filter gasket, before installation, lubricate it with clean oil.
  5. Pour new oil into the filter first. As you fill in, fresh oil begins to soak into the walls of the filter, so you need to add more. Fill the filter cap about half way. This is done so that the lubrication of all engine components, in the first minutes of its operation, passes without delay.
  6. Thoroughly clean the place under the filter, after which, put the filter in its original place, tightening it well.
  7. Now you need to fill the engine with oil. Focus on the amount of oil that has leaked out: how much has drained means that approximately the same amount should be poured. Check the engine oil level with a dipstick - make sure it is between MAX and MIN.
  8. Warm up the engine of the machine to operating temperature, and check the oil level again. If it does not reach normal, add oil.
  9. If necessary, tighten the filter and plug on the drain hole. Put the crankcase protection in place.

It is not always possible to purchase original motor oils, so situations arise when you need to choose an alternative lubricant that meets the technical characteristics of the power unit. To simplify the selection of lubricating fluid, the instructions for the car, as well as the tolerances present on canisters with motor oils, allow. We have studied the parameters of the recommended engine oil for Opel Astra and described them in our article.

Car engines running on gasoline

In accordance with the Opel Astra manual, the auto manufacturer recommends filling in engine lubricants that meet the requirements:

  • oil classes according to ACEA classification - A3-96;
  • lubricant viscosity 5w - 40, 10w - 40, 15w - 40 (the indicated fluids are all-weather);

The volume of required engine oil when replacing, taking into account the oil filter, is:

  1. Engine 1.4 l - 3.25 l;
  2. Auto engine 1.6 l:
  • single-shaft with air conditioning - 3.5 l;
  • the rest - 3.5 liters.

Recommended engine oil for Opel Insignia Recommended engine oil for Opel Vectra

With the presentation of the Astra J, Opel once again emphasized the new corporate identity of its lineup, which began since the release of the Insignia. The debut of the fourth generation Astra took place during the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, after which the assembly line was launched at full capacity in December. In Russian salons, the novelty became available in 2010. The compact golf-class car became the ideological follower of the Astra H and traditionally used the Delta II platform from GM as a base (as did the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Zafira).

Initially, the Astra IV was offered in a hatchback body equipped with 1.4 and 1.6-liter gasoline engines with a power in the range of 115-180 hp. Depending on the volume and other technical characteristics, these engines required different types and volumes of oil (more on this below). A domestic buyer could purchase 1.6-liter modifications with 120 or 140 hp. under the hood and fuel consumption of 6.2 liters per 100 km, and 1.6-liter ones with weak 115, 180 and powerful 200 hp. (mixed consumption, respectively, 6.3, 7.2 and 6.8 liters). Only front-wheel drive versions were produced, and the power plants of the model are paired with an automatic and mechanics, but the most charged version had only a variator. There are 3 versions of the car to choose from: Cosmo (the most expensive), Enjoy and the budget Essentia with a minimum set of options.

The fourth Astra fit perfectly into the competition between Mitsubishi Lancer, Volkswagen Jetta, Ford Focus and Skoda Octavia. In 2012, at the Moscow Motor Show, the long-awaited sedan version was presented to the public. The 2009 version was also updated, but the changes were only light cosmetic in nature (updated shape of the bumpers and grille, new fog lights and a little bit of black plastic at the air intake).

Opel Astra is a compact development of the German company Opel. The line has been produced and sold since 1991. The Astra model is a logical continuation of the outdated Opel Kadett, which appeared back in 1962. Earlier we already analyzed the maintenance of the model, today we will talk about replacing engine oil with Astra J.

The Astra J model is the next generation compared to the "H". It was produced from 2009 to 2016 in Russia, after which it left the market. However, in other countries, production versions are being successfully implemented.

What kind of oil to pour and how much?

Official dealers fill the engine with the original GM Dexos 2 5W-30 product. However, the use of exclusively original versions is expensive and not always appropriate. Instead, you can buy any market brand with tolerances on the packaging - GM-LL-A-025 for gasoline and GM-LL-B-025 for diesel units.

Instruction

  1. We warm the engine up to 50-60 degrees. Warm oil has better fluidity and will drain better from the engine during a complete change. Our task is to remove to the maximum the old dirty and used liquid that no longer has useful properties from the engine and fill in a new one. If a lot of old dirty oil remains in the crankcase, it will be swept away with new and worsen its useful properties. Warm up the engine for 5-7 minutes before work, this wakes up enough.
  2. For easy access to the drain plug (and in some models the oil filter is also attached from the bottom) and the bottom of the car as a whole, you need to jack it up or drive into the inspection hole (the best option). Also, in some models, "protection" of the engine crankcase can be installed.
  3. We open air access to the crankcase by unscrewing the filler cap and dipstick.
  4. Substitutes a large container (equal to the amount of oil being poured).
  5. We unscrew the drain plug with a key. Sometimes the drain plug is made like a conventional “bolt” with an open-end wrench, and sometimes it can be unscrewed with a four or hexagon. Do not forget to wear protective gloves, the oil will most likely wake up warm, but you need to be careful.
  6. We wait about 10-15 minutes until the mining drains into a basin or a cut plastic canister.
  7. An optional item but very effective! Flushing the engine with a special fluid is not included in the maintenance schedule and is not mandatory - but. A little confused, you will much better flush the engine from the old, black oil. At the same time, flushing with the old oil filter is carried out for 5-10 minutes. You will be surprised what black oil will pour out with this liquid. It is very easy to use this liquid. A detailed description must be included on the flush fluid label.
  8. Change the sedum filter. In some models, it is not the filter itself and the filter element that changes (usually yellow). Impregnation of the filter with new oil before installation is a mandatory procedure. Lack of oil in a new filter before starting the engine can cause oil starvation, which in turn can cause filter deformation. In general, this is not a good thing. Remember to also lubricate the rubber o-ring before installation.
  9. Fill in new oil. After making sure that the drain plug is screwed on and a new oil filter is installed, we can start filling in new oil, guided by the dipstick. The level must be between the minimum and maximum marks. Also, you need to remember that after the first start of the engine, a little oil will go away and the level will drop.
  10. In the future, when the engine is running, the oil level will probably change, be careful the first few days of operation. Recheck the oil level on the dipstick after the first start.
  11. Do not forget to reset the indicators on the on-board computer. To the left of the steering wheel is the RESET button, you need to press and hold it for 10 seconds until the display on the computer flashes, then press it and hold it again for 10 seconds. After these actions, the distance readings should be reset to zero.
