What are the positive qualities noted by the owners of the Chevrolet Lanos. The main disadvantages of the Chevrolet Lanos

The timing belt on Chevrolet Lanos must be changed every 60 thousand km. In the event of a break, the valves meet the pistons, followed by repair of the cylinder head. A belt with signs of wear, scuffs, cracks and delamination is also subject to replacement.
Daewoo Nexia, by the way, has a similar eight-valve one and a half liter engine. Using the Chevrolet Lanos as an example, consider the timing belt replacement procedure. To work, you will need a set of wrenches, socket heads and screwdrivers.

For ease of access, remove the air tube and air filter housing.

Loosen the three bolts securing the power steering pump pulley. Then unscrew the upper alternator mounting bolt, loosen the alternator belt tension and remove it. Then remove the power steering pulley. In this sequence, it will be easier to unscrew the bolts securing the pump pulley.

Remove the 2 x 12 bolts securing the power steering pump housing to the cylinder block.

Unscrew the 4 x 10 bolts securing the upper part of the timing belt cover and remove it.

Set the piston of the first cylinder to top dead center.

Now let's move on to the bottom of the engine. Remove the right front wheel and fender liner.

For ease of access to the plastic casing, I recommend removing the air resonator.

Unscrew 2 bolts and 2 nuts by 10 to remove the plastic casing that covers the engine belts from below and from the side. If there is a metal crankcase protection, then before that it must be removed.

Loosen the air conditioner drive belt tensioner and remove the belt. Using a wrench, unscrew the bolt securing the crankshaft pulleys. In the absence of this device, you can unscrew this bolt together with an assistant. To do this, he must engage 4th or 5th gear and press the brake pedal hard. At the same time, the crankshaft will be fixed and the bolt can be unscrewed using a good wrench with an extension and a socket head by 17.

The following view will open. Pay attention to how the crankshaft alignment mark is.

Remove the three 10 bolts securing the bottom of the timing belt cover.

Lock the tension roller in the retracted position. To do this, use a beard or a small screwdriver to align the holes on the roller bar. After that, it will be possible to remove the timing belt and the roller itself, which is attached with one bolt to the engine block.

Removing the belt from the engine is a little difficult. The fact is that he must squeeze into a narrow gap around the body of the power steering. When installing, the procedure is reversed accordingly.

When installing a new belt, the pointer on the roller platform must match the reciprocal groove in the bracket.

Before installing the covers, check that the alignment marks of the crankshaft and camshaft match. To do this, screw the pulley mounting bolt into the crankshaft shank and turn the crankshaft two turns by the bolt. If not, reinstall the belt.
Note. Tightening torque of the crankshaft pulley bolt 95 Nm + tighten by 30° and 15°.

Chevrolet Lanos is an economy class car. It was first introduced in 2008. Naturally, you should not expect any outstanding performance from an economy class car. And Chevrolet Lanos also has its pros and cons. However, shortcomings are often revealed, which should not be. Moreover, defects appear in all major systems and parts of the car. They appear in both new and used cars. And regardless of what equipment the car, in what body it was purchased.

Vehicle equipped five speed manual transmission. Its main drawback is not so much in reliability and service life, but in user qualities. The device does not turn on clearly and is noisy. Changing the oil will help fix the situation. This procedure must be performed every 30 thousand km. Thus, the hum will become quieter or disappear at all, but for a while.

After 55 thousand km, the wings loosen for no apparent reason. Adjusting the node will help restore the previous state. The clutch can last no more than 60 thousand km. Longer periods of up to 100 thousand km are also known, subject to careful treatment.

The disadvantage of the body is the paintwork. It is of poor quality, so chips and scratches quickly appear on it. Corrosion resistance is low, parts begin to rust after three years. Arches, sills, door edges, trunk and hood lids are especially vulnerable. You can deal with the problem. It is enough to treat the body with a special anti-corrosion agent every 5 years.

The weak point is the trunk lock. Over time, it fails, it needs to be replaced with a new one. Moisture may form in the passenger compartment and luggage compartment.

A common problem with the Chevrolet Lanos is the low efficiency of the brakes, especially the rear ones. It is especially manifested if you do not change the brake fluid every 30 thousand kilometers.

Chassis

Elements of the Chevrolet Lanos walker are distinguished by their short operation. Car owners emit weak shock absorbers. Already after 50 thousand kilometers, a comfortable suspension ceases to be such. There are many complaints about wheel bearings, which begin to crunch after 20-25 thousand km. Ball bearings require replacement every 50-60 thousand km. Their sudden breakdown is a frequent malfunction of Lanos. Another “sore” of the car is the steering rack. Often there is a leak, a knock, a hum, and the tips of the steering rack fail.

There are many problems with the engine. And if the 1.6-liter engine more or less pleases the owners with stable operation, then the 1.5-liter engine requires constant attention. The timing belt often breaks after 70-80 thousand km. This causes the valves to close. Therefore, experts give advice to constantly check the condition of the belt and replace it, as well as install new rollers. The situation is similar with the alternator drive belt, which requires replacement after 50-60 thousand km.

Often the cylinder head gasket fails, a leak begins. Absolute pressure and throttle position sensors in the injection system often also stop working.

Cooling system

The cooling system is also often subject to complaints. The radiator is notable for its unreliability. Antifreeze leakage is a common problem. Also, many vehicle owners are replacing the thermostat and the sensor responsible for the operation of the cooling fan.

Gear box

Of course, there were weaknesses in the checkpoint. The factory clutch disc is distinguished by its short service life. Often it is only enough for 50 thousand km. And if the car is constantly stuck in traffic jams, then a breakdown can occur earlier. After 80-100 thousand km, the box starts to buzz a lot. You can fix the problem by changing the oil. And another common problem is the operation of the checkpoint backstage, which can be misaligned for no reason.

It would seem, what problems can arise in the cabin? However, Chevrolet Lanos excelled in everything. Many owners noted such a factory assembly defect as a poor-quality rear-view mirror mount. For many, it simply fell off a month and a half after purchase. There are complaints and tightness. In some cars, the rear window is poorly glued, which is why water gets inside the cabin. There are also problems such as a broken blower switch, the clock falling out of the center console, and the creaking of the rear seats. Such minor defects, as a rule, the owners solve on their own with the help of improvised means. However, in the complex, all breakdowns do not leave the best impression of the car.

The main disadvantages of the Chevrolet Lanos

  1. High fuel consumption
  2. Low noise isolation
  3. Small interior and trunk
  4. Low quality paintwork
  5. Low corrosion resistance
  6. small ground clearance
  7. Bad dynamics.

Conclusion.

Thus, when buying a Chevrolet Lanos car and trying to save money, the owners are constantly spending money on repairs. The machine requires the closest attention and care, regular replacement of spare parts. To reduce the risk of breakdown at the most inopportune moment, it is recommended to carry out regular maintenance and diagnostics. At the same time, it is not known which system, part of the car will need to be “treated” again. And this is due to the fact that Chevrolet Lanos has a lot of vulnerabilities.

P.S: Car owners, if you notice frequent malfunctions of one or another part of Lanos, then report it in the comments below.

I want to say a little in defense of Lanos. I don’t even have a Lanos, but Chance 1.5, 2009 onwards. The first thing that changed is the shock absorbers in a circle for 75,000 km, 2 out of 4 flowed. After 3000 km, I changed the wheel bearings, the right one began to buzz. Timing changed at 112000KM. And, I also changed the radiator at 82000 km. These are all major replacements. The worst thing is the body. The front fenders rotted to holes in 6 years. Soundproofing is good for its class. The engine and gearbox are at a good level, I change the oil in the engine every 10,000 km, I haven’t changed it in the gearbox yet (it doesn’t make noise and switches well), but, I forgot, I changed the clutch at 109,000 km. Changing oil with filters costs an average of 2200-2500t.r. In general, if not the body of the machine, the rest is very personal. Ey, that's how it is. Thank you.

How? It’s easier, according to your description, to scrap the car right away on the day of purchase, just throw it into the shredder and digest it ... I drive a 2005 Chevrolet, mileage is 82 t.km. None of the above sores, except for sound insulation, have been noticed so far. Even experienced car owners envy the paintwork, the suspension is super, for the entire time of use it has never snorted the engine protection, although in the country there is a terrible gap in the form of holes. Is the mirror falling off? Nonsense! Rear glass? Korean with a sealant, apparently Korean, never leaked. Sensors also do not compress brains. What else? Posting Ukraine "Dneprodzerzhinsk". It causes dissatisfaction and doubts, all the harnesses are wrapped with electrical tape from the factory, as it is not neat, in general, khokhlyaks are messed up with wiring, but everything is OK. For parts, the box is perfect, the clutch is super, the brakes? Changed because of the production of discs and drums in the Brembo Italy circle (discs, pads, drums) Brembo DOT 5.1 brake fluid, Motul 2100 15W50 engine oil, Motul W80 gearbox, Totachi Long Life collant carboxylate Japan antifreeze, timing belts and Bosch generators. There is no power steering, and it’s so comfortable, the rail does not show signs of illness — everything is zergud. Ball, cv joints, springs, shock absorber cartridges, thrust bearings, wheel bearings, radiator, silent blocks - all native Polish-Korean. Gaskets yes, I looked at the condition under the valve cover and changed the gasket so that there was nothing (the cover was accidentally placed in the dust crumbs with a gasket in the garage). There are no problems either with a poorly closing glove compartment or with a trunk, it also doesn’t torment the gas tank hatches in winter (I pry with a plastic crowbar to dismantle the interior elements of the cabin - it’s harmless to the paintwork). The light in the block headlights, the rear linted LED bulbs - the light of each section is super, especially pleasant in the turn signals, the diodes in the repeaters on the sides, the usual Hella +50 bulbs in the front dimensions Hella and the linded LEDs in the turn signals. NGK candles and indeed, all consumables of well-known brands, oils and other liquids, lamps, filters, belts, pads, and Exide premium 61 A/H batteries. the car was inherited and stood for a long time for the battery, the old battery was planted at “0” 7 times and after driving I dumped it on the scales for 780 rubles. Fairytale car. If I am going to change something serious, then, based on quality and durability, it’s only for comfort that has been unattended for a long time. Remained as it is now. And not because of the fact that everything fell apart to ... or don't like it. I completely forgot the brushes, threw out the factory kids during the downtime of the machine, managed to harm them and stuck Hella 19″. I think if there is something in the second typewriter viburnum station wagon, then it is not comparable with Lanos. The clutch, frankly, is designed for the Hulk rather than in the Lanos, the accelerator is electronic and empty more pressing than the throttle cable of the Lanos, the shock absorbers at speed in viburnum are ready to shake off all your bones and turn your guts out when you just float along the road in Lanos))). Only the insulation is lame in Lanos, which I mentioned above. But, I think I’ll solve the only problem with soundproofing manually))) And site errors 1e lanos drive to a maximum of 167 km / h, lanos sport was produced for a short time in Korea with automatic transmission, yes yes - a 3-door automatic 1.5 engine, travels 161 km / h and 2e Lanos was created in 1998 with the Daewoo Lanos model created to replace the Daewoo Nexia were then the Chevrolet T100, Chevrolet Lanos Saloon, Chevrolet Kalos, Chevrolet kalos saloon, Chevrolet lanos sport Korea automatic, ZAZ Chance "sens". Sports like sens was a hatchback. In general, a well-groomed car, which I met as mine is only 3 out of 300 I saw, is worth the money, I like the car for its simplicity and comfort, although it’s just from the SX configuration - the driver’s airbag and a presentable steering wheel get tired of everything))) Brushes on the hood does not scratch and even the original Daewoo Korea muffler bank — not rotted.

  3. Do not judge strictly

4 years (100t.km) and normal flight)) pah pah pah … The most interesting thing is that in the first year I hit 50t.km. With regards to paintwork, yes, not very good, no doubt! BUT! The car is 10 years old, but it is native, and if it weren’t for my personal jambs (and my wife, respectively :)), it would be much better. Salt, xuyol and other reagents finish off everything else. Suspension hood! Yes, not a Merc, but it is justified by a rare replacement and a deshman price tag! In short, I’ll go straight to the shitty one: headlights, stove, consumption for 1.5l 10l in the city is somehow not for cafes. For me, this is everything. And also it's all treated inexpensively, so fuck this car with a market price of 20t.r. (It was for this price that I bought two cars, and one in full stuffing) and a maximum of 150t.r. not taking into account the bargaining, but there the mosquito won’t undermine the nose, it’s better than our auto industry (yes, wankers-youngsters who love pots ask me) I have everything. Thank you for your attention.

Chevrolet lanos) is not only a people's car, but also one of the most inexpensive foreign cars that have ever been presented on our market. Therefore, in most cases, cars of this model are considered as an alternative to used cars of the Russian car industry. This car is considered one of the best options only if the budget for buying a car is small, also, Lanos is perfect for novice drivers. Like most used cars, Chevrolet Lanos has a number of drawbacks, but what they are, and what you need to pay attention to when buying, I will tell you in this article.

A bit of history:

The first Lanos was presented by the Korean company Daewoo at the Geneva Motor Show, but development began much earlier, in 1993. The body design was developed by the famous design studio ItalDesign under the direction of Giorgetto Giugiaro. The power units are partially borrowed from Opel and improved by Porsche engineers. After General Motors bought a 42% stake in Daewoo in 2002, a decision was made to jointly produce this car model. Initially, the car was presented in three body types - a three- and four-door hatchback and a sedan. Also, there was a limited batch of convertibles (produced from 1997 to 2002). Until 2002, Lanos was assembled in Korea, but, after the launch of mass production, the car began to be assembled in Poland, as well as in Ukraine and Russia. Since 2008, the car has been produced only at the UkrAVTO plant in Zaporozhye.

Weaknesses of Chevrolet Lanos with mileage

The paintwork and metal of the body elements are of rather poor quality, as a result, corrosion on the car body appears after 3-5 years of operation. Most often, rust appears on the arches, sills, door edges, front of the hood and trunk lid. Therefore, in order to protect the car from the effects of corrosion, it is recommended to treat the body and bottom with anti-corrosion agents at least once every 3-4 years. Over time, moisture appears in the cabin and trunk, and there are also complaints about the durability of the trunk lock.

Engines

For the entire production period, the Chevrolet Lanos was equipped with only a 1.5 liter gasoline power unit with a capacity of 86 hp. One of the most common problems with this engine is considered to be oil leakage through the cylinder head gasket (the gasket needs to be replaced every 30-40 thousand km). The motor is equipped with a timing belt drive, with a service replacement interval every 60,000 km. However, it is better not to delay the replacement and carry it out a little earlier, since after 50,000 km there is a high probability of a belt break, which leads to serious consequences (bends the valve). Many owners, in order to save money, refuel with low-quality fuel, this leads to rapid clogging and premature failure of the fuel pump.

Often surprises and the cooling system - the radiator ceases to function, the pump and thermostat fail. If the malfunction is not detected in time, this can lead to overheating of the motor, and, in the future, to costly repairs (leads the cylinder head). The sensors of the injection system, absolute pressure, throttle position and lambda probe are not famous for their reliability. A fairly common problem, when the engine starts to work unstably (XX revolutions are walking), to fix the problem, it is necessary to replace the idle speed sensor. Among the advantages of the motor, unpretentiousness to fuel quality and a fairly large resource before overhaul (up to 500,000 km) can be distinguished.

Transmission

Chevrolet Lanos was equipped only with a five-speed manual transmission, which was not an alternative. Most of the complaints here relate not so much to reliability and durability as to its user characteristics. Most often, the transmission is criticized for fuzzy gear shifting and noisy operation. If the box started to buzz a lot, try to change the oil every 30,000 km, this procedure improves the situation a little, but does not completely solve the problem. Once every 50-60 thousand km, adjustment of the backstage is required, which becomes loose for no particular reason. WITH Clutch runs an average of 50-60 thousand km, but, with careful operation, it can last 100,000 km.

Reliability suspension Chevrolet Lanos

Chevrolet Lanos is equipped with a semi-independent suspension: in front - MacPherson strut, in the back - a beam with trailing arms hinged to the body. To increase lateral stability and improve handling, an anti-roll bar is installed inside the beam, the ends of which are fixed to the suspension arms. As for the reliability of the suspension, it is difficult to call it hardy. Most of the complaints are caused by the resource of shock absorbers and their springs, which in rare cases exceeds 30,000 km. Wheel bearings can start to buzz even after 20,000 km (rear ones require adjustment), but often they are enough for 30-40 thousand km, ball bearings will last about the same. Silent blocks and thrust bearings run an average of 50-70 thousand km.

As for the reliability of the steering rack, it all depends on the operating conditions, but if we take the average, then its resource is 60-80 thousand km. Steering tips and rods start knocking after 50,000 km. It is worth noting that all data refers only to original parts, also, you need to understand that most owners take inexpensive analogues, and their resource can be many times less. The biggest plus of the Chevrolet Lanos chassis is that its repair is quite cheap, and if you have even the slightest idea about the structure of the chassis car, you can do it yourself.

Salon

Traditionally for budget cars, low-quality interior finishing materials, as a result, squeaks, knocks and other annoying sounds are becoming commonplace. Also, due to poor quality, over time, the stove control buttons and other plastic elements begin to break off. Not famous for its durability and electrical wiring, over the years, this has a negative impact on the performance of the electrical equipment of the cabin (failures begin).

Outcome:

This car is the main contender for the role of the first car, and it will also be a good alternative to AvtoVAZ. If we talk about the reliability of this car, then the main components and assemblies, with proper maintenance, will not cause many problems. In this price range, Chevrolet Lanos is perhaps the most interesting option, but if you can buy a car a little more expensive, then it’s better to take a closer look.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your review that will help readers of our site when choosing a car.

Sincerely, editorial Autoavenue

The condition of the timing belt in the car must be monitored. However, the vast majority of car owners do not pay too much attention to it, sincerely believing that there is simply nothing to break. However, a broken belt entails a lot of trouble, the elimination of which will cost the driver a serious amount. We will talk about how to independently replace the timing belt on a Chevrolet Lanos 1.5 in this article.

The purpose of the timing belt

New timing belt on Chevrolet Lanos 1.5

The timing belt is a durable belt with a toothed profile. The teeth keep it from slipping on the pulleys (which also have teeth). Its purpose is to transmit torque from the crankshaft to the camshaft (that is, to the gas distribution shaft). In addition, the timing belt drives the water pump. Constant tension of the belt is ensured by a special tension roller, which must necessarily rotate smoothly, in no case should it stick, and there should not be any contamination on its surface. In the Chevrolet Lanos 1.5, this belt is located to the left of the engine, it can be seen simply by opening the hood of the car.

When to change to a Chevrolet Lanos

The Chevrolet Lanos 1.5 instruction manual says that the timing belt should be replaced every 75 thousand km. But most car service employees are of the opinion that you need to change it earlier - every 60 thousand km.
To know that the belt needs to be replaced, it is enough to carry out a simple visual inspection. Reasons for replacement are listed below:

  • When the belt is bent, transverse cracks between the teeth are clearly visible.
  • Very thin, barely noticeable cracks appeared directly at the base of the teeth.
  • The thickness of the belt is uneven along the entire length, it has stratified and traces of oil and dirt are clearly visible on it.

All this suggests that it is time to change the belt. If this is not done, it can break off right on the go. And when that happens, bent valves in the engine will be the least of the driver's problems.

Necessary tools for DIY replacement

  1. New timing belt.
  2. Open-end wrench set.
  3. A set of socket heads with a collar.
  4. Screwdriver with a flat sting (medium size).
  5. Jack (if there is no viewing hole in the garage).
  6. Wrench.

Sequence of actions (also for cars with air conditioning)

  1. The hood of the car opens, using a set of open-ended wrenches, the air filter and the air supply pipe that is attached to it are removed (to remove the pipe, the mounting clamps are loosened with a flat screwdriver).

Removing the air filter and pipe by loosening the clamps

  2. There are 3 bolts on the power steering pulley. They are weakening. After that, the upper bolt is unscrewed on the generator (it is there 1). As a result, the tension of the alternator belt weakens, and it can be easily removed. Next, the hydraulic booster pulley is removed.

    Power steering pulley bolts loosen

  3. The timing belt cover is fastened with four 10 bolts. These bolts are unscrewed, after which the cover is removed.
  4. After opening the belt cover, the crankshaft rotates until the mark on the pulley matches the mark on the top cover (the coincidence of these marks means that the piston of cylinder 1 has reached top dead center).

Piston at top dead center, marks match

  5. If there is no viewing hole, the right wheel of the car is jacked up and removed. Then the right fender liner is unscrewed. Behind it is an air resonator, it is also removed. This opens up access to the plastic protective panel, behind which the belt is located.
  6. The protection is removed using a 10 open-end wrench (it is held by 2 bolts and 2 nuts). In some Chevrolet Lanos models, this panel may not be made of plastic, but of steel.

Bolts on the steel protective panel under the wing

  7. Now you can see the bolt on which the crankshaft pulleys are attached. It is unscrewed with a wrench (moreover, its collar must be very long, and the socket head must be 17). All this is done in order to loosen the tension roller from the air conditioner drive (provided that this device is available in the car). Through the above procedure, the tensioner pulley is released so that the A/C belt can be removed freely.

The fixing bolt of the crankshaft pulley is unscrewed with a wrench

  8. Opens access to the crankshaft and timing belt. There are 2 marks on the crankshaft (one on the key and one on the tooth). Before proceeding further, you need to remember their position.

The position of the marks on the crankshaft and tooth

  9. On the lower protective plate that covers the belt, 3 bolts are unscrewed with a 10 socket head.

The crankshaft protection plate is mounted on 3 bolts

  10. The tension roller is fixed in the retracted position with a screwdriver. On the bar of this roller there are holes that are necessarily combined.

The appearance of knocks in the front of the car is a clear sign of a malfunction in the chassis. may be due to a failed, or as in my case, due to the fault of the "dead" front struts.

The breakdown is rather unpleasant, but the realization of this does not make it any easier. I didn’t want to go to some advanced “Uncle Vasya” and decided to change the Lanos front struts with my own hands. Perhaps my detailed photo report on self-replacement of front shock absorbers will be useful to someone. Looking ahead, I’ll say that the whole procedure will take you about two to three hours.

To work, you will need the following tools:

  1. Keys: cap on "19", socket on: "9", "12", open-end on: "17", 12.
  2. You may need WD-40 fluid. Why is it possible, because it is not known what state your threaded connections are in.
  3. Couplings for compression of a spring.
  4. Steering pin puller.
  5. Wrench.
  6. Jack.

Note: To enlarge the image click on it!

How to replace front struts Chevrolet Lanos on your own

1. It all starts as always, you need to jack up and remove the wheel, for whom this is a problem,.

2. Then lift the hood and remove the thrust bearing cap.

3. Loosen (do not completely unscrew) the nut with the cap on "19", hold the rack rod with the other hand using the end cap on "9".

4. Unscrew the nut of the steering tip with a key to "17", then press it out using a puller for steering tips.

5. Now using zip ties to compress the springs, compress the springs.

6. Turn off two bolts of fastening of a support. Using clamps or wires, hang the caliper, it should not hang on the brake hose.

7. Next, you need to unscrew the stabilizer rod, for this we have a head on "12", hold it from below, and unscrew the rod from above with a horn on "12". After unscrewing, move the stabilizer rubber bands to the side.

8. Now you can completely unscrew the nut of the strut rod in the support bearing, then lower the strut together with the spring down so that the strut rod comes out of the support bearing.

9. Remove the plastic cup with the rubber stop located at the top of the spring. Now it's time to remove the spring itself. In order to get the spring, you will have to suffer a little, there is very little space for this, so turn it this way and that, it should come out.
10. Take two adjustable ones and unscrew the rack cartridge nut with them.

11. Remove the support bearing, for this you need to unscrew the three mounting bolts. Remove the "support".

12. To get the cartridge, use the hole in the support bearing cup.

On the other hand, the repair process is similar, so it makes no sense to describe it. Assembly - in reverse order. If you liked the article Replacing the front struts Chevrolet Lanos support her and share with your friends on social networks.
