German optics are equipped with conventional reflectors, but due to the high quality of components, it allows you to get an intense and stable beam of light. According to the owners, the headlights provide better illumination in any weather than domestic products.

What is the importance of headlight adjustment?

The importance of headlight adjustment is explained by the following safety nuances:

  1. Incorrectly adjusted headlights form a wide beam of light in front of the car, which actually puts a curtain that limits visibility. This effect is especially noticeable in rainy or foggy weather, as well as during snowfall.
  2. An unadjusted beam of light in the near mode dazzles oncoming drivers, increasing the risk of traffic accidents. When switching the light to high mode, the trees will be “illuminated”, but not the road in front of the car.

How to properly adjust the headlights without removing them?

Adjustable without removing from the vehicle. A special stand is used for tuning, with individual markings for each model. For self-adjustment, a portable template made of plywood or painted on the wall is used. In the conditions of a car service, special adjustable devices are used that provide increased measurement accuracy.

The adjustment procedure in a garage environment consists of the following steps:

  1. Drawing a marking template on the wall or installing a finished one.
  2. The designation of the points of the centers of the lamps.
  3. Direct light adjustment.

To adjust the beam of light, two regulators are used, mounted on the back of the housing. The one closest to the turn signal is responsible for changing the direction vertically, the second - horizontally. Access to the regulators is free and is not blocked by the units of the engine compartment.

Preparatory work before adjustment without disassembly

Requirements before starting adjustment:

  1. Wash the outer surface of the headlights. The glass must be free of dust, insect residues or oil deposits.
  2. Check the operation of the corrective device, which may be hydraulically or electrically driven.
  3. Perform a visual inspection of the diffuser glass. If turbidity or scratches are found, polishing is recommended. It is better to perform the procedure in a specialized service that has tools and materials.
  4. Check the external condition of the lenses and reflector surfaces. If there are delaminations, cracks, chips, you will have to replace the part or headlight.
  5. It is recommended to replace the dipped and main beam lamps, especially in cases where the light sources are used for a long time. High wattage bulbs should not be installed in headlights as they cause overheating and destruction of the assembly.
  6. Analyze the technical requirements for adjustment. Bring the load of the car to the required level, set the appropriate tire pressure.

The main difficulty with self-adjusting headlights is finding a flat area that allows you to freely place the car and the control screen.

Algorithm of actions during setup

Do-it-yourself headlight adjustment instructions:

  1. Install the VAZ 2110 on a flat area at a distance of 5 m from the installed measuring template. There must be a right angle between the machine and the template.
  2. Load the driver's seat with 75 kg of ballast. Often, an assistant is located in the driver's seat.
  3. Rock the car by the front fender to install the shock absorbers and suspension springs into position.
  4. Draw a vertical line on the template or wall corresponding to the axis of the car (indicated as “O” in the diagram).
  5. Draw parallel lines A and B corresponding to the centers of the lamps. The distance between centers is 1108 mm.
  6. Break off two horizontal lines. The line indicated in the diagram by number 1 is located at a distance of 600 mm from the floor and corresponds to the center of the headlights. Line 2, located 75 below and serves to display the center of the headlight spot.
  7. Turn the hydraulic regulator to the position corresponding to the minimum load.
  8. Open the hood.
  9. Cover one of the headlights with a dense material, such as a piece of cardboard.
  10. Turn the adjusting rods to set the beam of light on the open headlight. The upper limit of the light spot must lie on line 2. The connection point of the horizontal and inclined segment of the light spot coincides with point E.
  11. Carry out the same procedure with the other headlight.

If in the process of adjusting the headlights on the VAZ 2110 it is not possible to bring the beam to the specified parameters, then it is necessary to dismantle the lighting device for repair or replacement.

How to remove the headlights and adjust them yourself if the device has defects?

In some cases, it cannot be adjusted. This is due to damage to the hydraulic corrector or defects on reflectors or glasses. In this case, you can try to disassemble the assembly and replace parts that are unusable.

How to disassemble the headlight?

The sequence of disassembling the VAZ 2110 headlights:

  1. Dismantle the part from the car, remove all the lamps from the housing.
  2. Heat the glass evenly with a building hair dryer, melting the sealant layer. Separate the lens from the headlight housing with a flat object. When disassembling the Bosch headlight, you need to unfasten the glass mounting brackets.
  3. Unscrew the three fixing points of the reflector.
  4. Remove the corrector spring through the hole for installing the actuator.
  5. Remove the reflector from the housing by turning the tilt adjusters.
  6. Wash the headlight assemblies, replace faulty parts and reassemble the assembly. As a sealant, a silicone composition is used, which is used to install automotive glass.

Features of removing and adjusting the headlight

Headlight removal procedure:

  1. Disconnect battery terminal.
  2. Remove the upper decorative grille, mounted on two bolts.
  3. Remove the power supply plugs to the headlight.
  4. Remove the corrector actuators. The part is mounted on a latch and a rotary lock.
  5. Unscrew the three bolts securing the headlight and drown it a little deeper.
  6. Move the decorative strip (“eyelash”) and remove it from the seat on the bumper. To facilitate dismantling, loosen the upper bumper mount located between the headlights.
  7. Unscrew the fourth headlight mounting point and remove it from its socket.
  8. Install a new part (the procedure is reversed).

The removed VAZ 2110 headlight can be cleaned of dirt and repaired, no adjustments are provided for by the design.

What to do if the headlight unit is faulty?

A common defect of "Kirzhach" parts is the failure of the hydraulic corrector. Because of this, the headlight is not adjustable or the light beam changes direction when trying to adjust with the corrector. The cause of the defect is a violation of tightness or jamming of the actuator. To control the serviceability of the unit, the stroke of the actuating rods is measured, which should lie within 6.5-7.5 mm. In the event of a breakdown, the assembly must be replaced; repair of parts is not possible, since the device is non-separable.

The easiest way to repair is to install a mechanical regulator. To do this, a suitable bolt with a lock nut is screwed into the actuator housing. The disadvantage of this design is the need for manual adjustment of each headlight. Therefore, it is not recommended to install a manual regulator.

Installing a hydrocorrector

To replace the standard hydraulic corrector with the original unit, you must:

  1. Remove all fixing points of the corrector pipelines to the body.
  2. Remove the regulator located in the instrument panel.
  3. Dismantle the protective jabot of the trapezium of the wipers.
  4. Remove from fasteners and move the expansion tank to the side.
  5. Remove the old tubes from the seats protected by rubber seals. Many owners bite the lines and take them out piece by piece.
  6. Remove the old master cylinder of the system.
  7. Clean out debris from under the frill. Thread the new tube into the original hole. To simplify the procedure, it is recommended to use a copper wire that pulls the tube.
  8. Reinstall the rubber channel seals. This is an important point, since the hole is located directly above the relay and fuse mounting block.
  9. Stretch the lines along regular routes through the engine compartment.
  10. Check system operation.
  11. Adjust the headlights as described above.

Installation of an electric corrector

A number of owners install an electric drive from the GAZ 3110 Volga on the VAZ 2110:

  1. Install the corrector motors in the standard place. The installation site does not require any modifications.
  2. To control the installation angle, a button from a regular electric window regulator is used, installed in the body of the hydraulic corrector control handle.
  3. Connect the power supply of the electric drive from the ignition switch. A 5 A protective fuse is installed in the circuit.
  4. Pull the wiring into the engine compartment. It is recommended to use protective corrugated sleeves that protect the wires from chafing the insulation.
  5. Crimp the ends with plugs that will ensure reliable contact with the motors. On engines, only two of the four contacts are activated.
  6. Protect the connection point of the wires to the motors with electrical tape.
  7. Cross the wiring to the plug that will connect to the control key.
  8. Connect button.

Another common defect is the jitter of the light beam, which is observed when the car is moving. The defect is found on Kirzhach headlights, German products have a solid construction.

The reasons for the defect are:

  • exit of the reflector from the attachment points;
  • breakage of the corrector;
  • poor condition of the lamps;
  • weakening of the adjusting springs.

To install the reflector in a regular place, disassembly of the headlight is required according to the method described above. You can compensate for the fatigue of the springs by lengthening the working rod of the corrector using a cap. As an extension, a part of a plastic dowel is used, which is put on and fixed on the stem.
