It seems that it makes no sense to describe the appearance of the BMW 2-Series Convertible for a long time and fruitfully. Firstly, the official photo and video materials presented in the review fully reveal the stylish appearance of the Bavarian compact convertible. And secondly, the exterior design of the open version of the 2-series from BMW exactly repeats the exterior design of the hardtop version of the BMW 2-series coupe.

But ... of course, with one very big difference - this is the design and shape of the convertible roof. No matter how hard the German designers and designers tried to create an attractive soft dome roof, but the ideal dome like a coupe did not work out. The good news is that with the top down, the BMW 2-Series Convertible looks amazing.

The fabric roof of the convertible is equipped with an electric drive that allows you to raise or fold the soft top in the parking lot or when driving up to a speed of 50 mph. The process of lifting and folding the roof takes only 20 seconds, the soft hood folds compactly into a specially designated place in the trunk and closes with a lid. The new convertible has grown, becoming longer and wider (by 7.4 cm and 3.4 cm, respectively). It is worth noting that the number 6 very accurately conveys the features of the model, which surpasses the "five" and does not reach the representative "seven", but only because it is a grand tourism coupe, not a limousine.

The 650's Predator is easy to spot: two massive quad tailpipes integrated into the intricate bottom line of the rear bumper, and huge yet sleek 20-inch alloy wheels shod with low-profile tires. The low powerful bass of the exhaust will dispel any doubts that this is a real beast. The eight-cylinder 4.4-liter gasoline engine of the 650i modification, developing 407 hp. s., “growls” so that its sound can be recorded on a mobile phone and set as an alarm clock. Along with the appearance, the inner world has also changed. The interior is still carefully thought out and made with the utmost care and attention to detail. He received a new dashboard and center console, which is now slightly turned towards the driver. Finishing has become more refined, thanks to the use of more expensive materials than before. The care with which the interior of the car is made, the quality of materials, the overall feeling of luxury and the number of options fully justify being at the top of the premium segment.

The manufacturer tried to do everything so that every detail screamed that it was very expensive and that the price for a car, starting at 4,560,000 rubles, was fair. Here, expensive leather and wood inserts, the seats are equipped not only with a mass of adjustments, heating and ventilation, but also with a massage mechanism. By the way, these chairs do an unusual massage... Their main purpose is to keep your buttocks from numbing when you stand in a traffic jam for many hours, or to keep you from falling asleep on a long journey. Massage "in Bavarian style" delivers specific sensations.

The Six, like many BMW models, is equipped with the function of projecting the necessary information onto the windshield in front of the driver, and to maintain constant visual contact with the road, this option is optimal. The function is really necessary, for the same motorists who hesitate in the need to purchase this option, I recommend casting aside doubts. Thanks to the projection on the glass, you will always know how fast the car is moving, what is the speed limit on this stretch of road; finally, if you are driving on a navigator, you will have route information in front of you. By the way, I discovered an interesting effect: the numbers of speed and speed limit signs are perfectly visible in any light and with the naked eye, however, if you put on glasses with polarizing lenses, the projection image will become invisible. It’s a pity, but in sunny weather you will have to drive without an accessible and useful function or wearing glasses with ordinary dark glasses.

In a convertible capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.6 seconds, the designers did not make the speedometer a formality - a device with divisions in steps of 30 or 50 km / h, which is quite common in very fast cars. Today, when every 20 km / h in excess of the permitted maximum speed exponentially increase the fine, video recording devices hung on almost every pole, accurate speed control is very important.

The speedometer needle on this car instantly overcomes the divisions on the device: 100, 150, 200 ... Unfortunately, the needle of the device, showing the fuel level, begins to move literally before our eyes, only in a downward direction. Speed, charm and courage at such moments merge with a dream... The dream that the fuel consumption was "passport" - 6.9 liters per suburban hundred, not 17 liters or more. The minimum consumption that was achieved from a 407-horsepower engine is 11.9 liters, when driving on a free highway at a speed of 90-100 km / h.

Unfortunately, the increase in size did not add comfort to the “six”. The inhabitants of the front seats have a little more space, but the passengers sitting in the back row, there was no legroom, and no. Oddly enough, but with two full-fledged seats in the second row, only children, animals and bags can comfortably travel. In an almost five-meter car, only the driver and passenger of the front seat feel in the first class cabin, those who are “lucky enough” to breathe in the wind from the gallery will surely remember for a long time the owner of the “six” legs pressed down by the front seat and forced stooped posture: thanks to the sloping roofline - you can only unbend in the open air.

Despite being heavy compared to 6-cylinder powertrains, the V8 gives you an incomparable high, heady pleasure not only from the huge power and incredible traction, but also from the great sound. It should be noted that the soundproofing of the "six" is at its best - even with the top removed, the engine is almost inaudible if you drive at a calm pace. Only a pleasant muttering comes from behind, from the exhaust pipes. But as soon as you sink the gas pedal deeper, you will be swallowed up by a wave of tangible sound.

With the top up, you are guaranteed almost complete isolation from the outside world. Even when driving through noisy tunnels, extraneous sounds do not penetrate the interior of the car, so you can enjoy the quiet sound of the Bang & Olufsen audio system and at the same time carry on a conversation with a satellite in a lower tone. By the way, the car provides full integration into the multimedia system of the "apple" smartphone. Thanks to this, you will always have your favorite music “on board” and a full-fledged handsfree system without “dancing with a tambourine”.

On the highway, the new "six"-convertible feels confident, stability at maximum speeds is phenomenal. It seems that there is no air resistance, no ruts on the pavement, no air strikes from the "long-distance guns" passing by. Despite the fact that the previous version of this model also had excellent driving performance, the designers of the Bavarian brand managed to significantly improve performance. The car acquired a more rigid body and suspension, which had a positive effect on handling. In terms of driving performance, the “six” is a real high-speed cruiser.

I note that in the new model, the stiffness of the suspension response to bumps, dictated by hard low-profile rubber shod on huge rims, is leveled. Even on a gravel road, the “six” provides decent comfort to the driver and passengers.

"Thanks" to the rear-wheel drive, the BMW 6 Series Cabrio still has weak points: a powerful engine easily breaks the drive axle into a skid or slip. This is especially noticeable in steep turns and on a dusty or damp road.
