The Jaguar I-Pace Concept is Jaguar's electric firstborn. Test drive and user reviews Jaguar I Pace Dimensions and design

19.10.2019

The new electric crossover Jaguar I-Pace 2018-2019 has revealed all the cards on the eve of the start of the Geneva Motor Show 2018. Jaguar's first mass-produced off-road vehicle, powered solely by electric traction, promises to be one of the most advanced vehicles of its time. The new model features a light and strong body with a record-breaking torsional rigidity, the latest Touch Pro Duo Flight Deck infotainment system that can adapt to the driver, the latest generation of artificial intelligence technology, a pair of high-performance electric motors (one on each axle) with total output 400 HP and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 90 kWh, providing a range of up to 480 km.

In the European market, the new Jaguar will be available in S, SE and HSE trim levels, as well as the welcome First Edition. The cars will be produced at a plant in Graz, Austria, where the production of a small SUV has already been established. The base price of the new Jaguar I-Pace 2018-2019 at home will be 63,500 pounds (4.9 million rubles). In Russia, a new premium electric crossover from Britain will appear this fall, and the configuration and prices for our market will be announced presumably in the summer.

In the fairly young Electric Vehicle segment, the new i-pace has only one competitor so far - this, which in the USA costs from $ 79,500 (the initial version of the 75D with a 519 hp engine). However, by the end of 2018, the number of players in the electric class premium SUVs will double at once, as the new Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQ are scheduled to appear around this time.

Dimensions and design

At the heart of the new Jaguar I-Pace is an original aluminum platform designed specifically for electric vehicles. In terms of length and width (4682 and 2011 mm), the model just occupies an intermediate position between the E-Pace and, however, the silhouette and proportions of the body of the novelty are seriously different. So, the height of the “ay-pace” is only 1565 mm, while the partners in the Jaguar line have about 90 mm more. Also, one of the features of the electric crossover is the stretched wheelbase, the length of which is as much as 2990 mm (for the same F-Pace it is 2874 mm).

The appearance of the car clearly traces the features of the thoroughbred Jaguar family, but the coupe-like profile with a forward-shifted interior, minimal overhangs, a short hood and poured sidewalls distinguishes the newcomer from the background of the “brothers”. The front part of the body is typically "Jaguar" - a light hump of the "nose", a proprietary radiator grille with a fine-grained mesh, a compact lower air intake and two side sections of the air ducts, head optics with a "predatory" cut. The default headlights are matrix diode with two main rectangular light blocks, complemented by strokes of running lights.

Jaguar I-Pace (I-Pace) 2018-1019

The stern of the crossover is spelled out with narrow marker lights that go far to the sidewalls, a high lifted trunk lid with a strong slope of the glazed part, a complex bumper with aerodynamic niches and a solid diffuser.

Stern SUV

In general, the new I-Pace inherited a lot of the exterior decor from the prototype shown about a year and a half ago. For example, a serial car got the same retractable door handles that respond to a signal from a key fob or a touch of a hand. But the side windows of the conveyor version are different, with jumpers separating the movable sections from the stationary ones. The developers have moderated their ardor during the transition to mass production in terms of wheel size - huge 23-inch wheels have given way to more compact dimensions of 18-22 inches. In fairness, it must be said that the largest 22-inch wheels with low-profile tires 255/40 R22 are enough for the crossover, as they say, for the eyes, and larger wheels would already look somewhat foreign.

car silhouette

In conclusion, talking about the exterior, I would like to draw attention to the excellent streamlining of the body of the newly minted representative of the Jaguar lineup, which is a very important indicator for electric cars. The drag coefficient of the I-Pace is 0.29 (although the Tesla Model X has an even better 0.24). Its low value is provided, among other things, by the special configuration of the false radiator, thanks to which oncoming air flows find an exit through a hole in the hood, and then go up the windshield.

Model configuration

Due to the long wheelbase and the optimal location of the power plants, the crossover has a very spacious interior, which even many large SUVs will envy. The stock of free space in the area of the legs of the rear passengers reaches 890 mm, and the distance from the second row seat cushions to the ceiling is 968 mm. The I-Pace has two trunks: a front one with a capacity of 27 liters and a rear volume of 656 liters. With the rear seats folded down, up to 1453 liters of luggage can be transported inside the car.

Interior

The front panel of the new electric crossover has the same architecture as all the latest Land Rover models, of course, with some nuances. For example, in the center of the console there is a 10.5-liter compartment for small items (the developers call this console floating and promise to equip all future innovations with it). The number of physical switches on the panel is reduced to a minimum, and all on-board functionality is controlled using touch screens (there are two on the console), capacitive buttons and a pair of “twists”. The instrument cluster, of course, digital, is made in the format of a 12-inch interactive display.

Second row of seats

The main "chips" of the new Jaguar I-Pace should be artificial intelligence working in conjunction with integrated learning algorithms and an advanced multimedia complex Touch Pro Duo Flight Deck. They analyze driver preferences and adjust vehicle settings accordingly. As soon as the crossover detects the owner in the immediate vicinity (by a Bluetooth signal from a smartphone or key fob), it sets the optimal settings for seat adjustment, climate control and multimedia in advance. If a low temperature is recorded outside, the seat and steering wheel heating automatically turns on. The new generation EV Navigation system, which remembers the driving style and data from previous trips, is also endowed with the ability to self-learn. This information, together with the topography of the area, is taken into account when building new routes and choosing a driving mode.

We will not dwell on the list of available options and finishing materials. We only note that the models rely on a laser projection screen, a panoramic roof, upholstery in fine-grained Windsor leather or a special high-quality fabric from the textile industry experts from Kvadrat.

Specifications Jaguar I-Pace 2018-2019

Despite the fact that the Jaguar I-Pace is based on an aluminum platform, its curb weight due to heavy attachments turned out to be rather big - 2208 kg. This is partly compensated by the ideal weight distribution (50:50) and low center of gravity (130 mm lower than that of the "ef-pace"). Strength indicators are also at the highest level - the torsional rigidity of the body is 36 kNm / degree, and this parameter for the I-Pace is the best among all Jaguars.

"Cart" of the new Jaguar I-Pace

The car will be presented on the market in only one version, which has a factory index EV400. This modification is equipped with a pair of 200-horsepower synchronous electric motors, each mounted on its own axis. The total output of the tandem is 400 hp. and 696 Nm. This is enough for a confident start from a standstill and acceleration to 100 km / h in just 4.8 seconds.

The electric motors are powered by a lithium battery built into the power structure of the body and equipped with a dual-circuit liquid cooling system. Charging a battery with a capacity of 90 kWh is carried out using a conventional 7-kilowatt outlet (charge time up to 80% - 10 hours) or a special terminal (50-kilowatt copes for 85 minutes, 100-kilowatt - in 40 minutes). A fully charged battery allows you to drive 480 km on the WLTP cycle without additional recharge (in real conditions, no more than 350-400 km). The manufacturer claims that the test tests of the machine were carried out at a temperature of -40 degrees Celsius, which means that there should be no problems with operation in cold climate zones.

If we talk about the chassis, the new Jaguar received an independent suspension with double wishbones in front and an Integral link multi-link design at the rear. For a surcharge, instead of conventional springs and standard shock absorbers, you can order an air suspension with adaptive shock absorbers. In this case, when reaching 105 km / h, the body of the SUV will be lowered by 10 mm to improve aerodynamics.

Photo Jaguar I-Pace 2018-2019

The British company Jaguar successfully broke into the crossover niche with its own. The manufacturer continues to fill the niche and releases its first serial electric car - I-Pace 2018. Thus, the company is still breaking into the niche of electric vehicles by creating a competitor.

The car was presented at the Geneva Motor Show and was initially shown to the public as a concept over a year ago at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The model is assembled at a factory in Austria, where it is also assembled. The crossover will be available to Russian buyers in the autumn, unfortunately, there is no information on the exact price.

Design

Although the car is made in the general style of the brand, it differs slightly due to short overhangs, a small hood and a generally coupe-like shape. The platform was used separately, specially prepared for electric cars made of aluminum alloy.

The appearance of the front of the Jaguar I-Pace stands out due to the swollen wings, they are higher than the hood. The hood itself has a massive air intake in the center. Narrow matrix LED optics allows you to recognize the manufacturer, as well as a massive radiator grille with a chrome frame and a logo. The bumper with large air intakes emphasizes the aggressive style. At the bottom there are thin fog lights.

It is from the side that we can consider the dimensions of the hood and overhangs. From here you can also clearly see the compartment-like shape and the sharp frame of the rear. Stylishly done is the topline that runs from the front fender to the rear fender – a waveform where most manufacturers make it almost always nearly flat. On the lower part of the Jaguar I-Pace 2019, a black molding with a chrome-plated inscription “Jaguar” is noticeable, and of course, the 18th discs will not leave anyone indifferent (you can put the 22nd). By the way, the doors open with the help of retractable handles - a technology that has been gaining popularity lately.

The rear is also as similar as possible to its counterparts, but the style used by all manufacturers for electric cars is visible - more smoothness. The shape of the taillights is almost identical to the F-Pace, the filling is LED. The fifth door is complemented by a small rear wing, at the top there is a wide, thin additional brake signal.

Body dimensions:

  • length - 4682 mm;
  • width - 1895 mm;
  • height - 1565 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2990 mm.

In general, the appearance turned out to be very modern and attractive. Jaguar I-Pace practically does not differ from the concept, only a few little things. The British manufacturer has been making some of the most beautiful cars in the last few years.

Salon

Once inside the novelty, you understand that the car is expensive, everything is trimmed with high-quality Windsor leather, and there are also wooden inserts. The architecture is very close to. This is an electric car, so there are practically no mechanical switches, basically everything is touch-sensitive.

The front seats are fully upholstered in leather, have an impressive range of electric adjustments and all the necessary functions. The back row is striking in space, three people will fit there without any problems. Rear passengers have their own separate climate control, USB ports, sockets, etc. The manufacturer was pleasantly surprised by the panorama - a huge glass covering almost the entire roof area.

The center console of the E-Pace 2018 surprises with its architecture, on its upper part there is a 10-inch display of the Touch Pro Duo Flight Deck infotainment system with EV Navigation. Below is a 5-inch air conditioning screen with washers and touch buttons. The climate is separate, air flows are drawn on the screen, and the temperature is on the washers.

Multimedia is a learning system, it can do a lot. A system has been introduced that analyzes the temperature overboard and independently adjusts the heating zones of the steering wheel, seats and everything else. She can also find the owner if he is close to the car and before the trip, adjust the positions of the seats, and warm up the interior of the Jaguar I-Pace to the optimum level.

The 3-spoke driver's steering wheel looks cool thanks to the chrome and leather, it also has touch buttons, which most likely will not be the best solution for ergonomics. The instrument cluster is a 12-inch display that displays speed, navigation data, battery data and more. Optionally, a laser projection on the windshield is installed.

Since the engine is not so massive here, it is possible to make 2 trunks. The front received a volume of only 27 liters, and the second is already 656, plus there is the possibility of folding the backs and increasing the space to 1453 liters.

Specifications Jaguar I-Pace

The new crossover is offered in only one version with the EV400 index. The model gets two electric motors of 200 horsepower for each axle. A total of 400 hp is obtained. and 696 H*m of torque.

The motors are powered by 90 kWh batteries. Motors allow the car to accelerate to hundreds in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h. The batteries are charged from a 7 kilowatt socket, in 10 hours 80% of the battery will be charged. If you use charging at powerful stations, then the time is reduced significantly. The British claim that they tested the car in -40 degrees frost and say that there will be no problems in cold climates.

The battery stock is enough for 480 km using the WLTP cycle, in fact the batteries will last for about 400 km.

The dynamics of electric cars largely depend on aerodynamics, the drag index of the Jaguar I-Pace 2019 is 0.29, which is less than that of the Model X. But here, good handling is not only due to the huge number of electronic assistants, but also due to the ideal weight distribution of 50 to 50 .

The model's suspension is borrowed from - an independent system on double levers in front and an Integral link multi-character rear. Chassis is 81% aluminum. Pneuma will be installed optionally, to improve aerodynamics, it will independently lower the car by 10 mm when it reaches 105 km / h.

Price

In Russia, the price of a crossover starts at 5,825,000 rubles - expensive. The equipment of the basic configuration will have everything you need and even more:

  • keyless access;
  • 1-zone climate control;
  • multimedia with navigation and voice control;
  • leather upholstery;
  • 20 inch rims;
  • regular cruise;
  • electrically adjustable front seats;
  • front and rear parking sensors;
  • lane keeping system;
  • emergency braking function.

In the top configuration First Edition for 7.353 million rubles, not so much additional equipment will appear:

  • a roof with a panoramic view;
  • control of blind zones;
  • heating of all seats;
  • ventilation of the front row of seats;
  • adaptive cruise control;
  • car all-round visibility system;
  • Rear View Camera.

For this crossover in the minimum configuration, you will have to pay at least 63,500 pounds sterling - the English market. The main competitor at the moment is more expensive, but due to a tax subsidy in England, both cars will cost about the same.

Suggested configurations:

  • First edition.

The new British car turned out to be really cool, it is not inferior to its competitor. The jaguar is rapidly breaking into new niches for itself and does it successfully. The 2018 Jaguar I-Pace is the first crossover that should create a truly serious competition for the Model X, which will subsequently push the manufacturer to release other electric cars that are the future.

Video

The Jaguar I-Pace is an all-wheel drive premium mid-size crossover and, at the same time, the first all-electric production car in the history of the British brand, combining spectacular design, a high level of practicality and progressive “stuffing” ...

Its main target audience is wealthy people living in large cities and leading an active lifestyle who want to drive an SUV, but at the same time are sensitive to the environmental situation in the world ...

For the first time, this electric crossover was demonstrated to a wide audience in November 2016 - at the international motor show in Los Angeles (but then only in a conceptual guise) ... The path to the conveyor took less than a year and a half for the five-door, and she got to it with minimal changes (and in terms of design, and on the technical side) - the debut of the production model took place in March 2018, at the stands of the Geneva Motor Show.

From the outside, the Jaguar I-Pace has a pronounced coupe-like outline and looks more like a hot hatchback than an SUV, but at the same time it really looks spectacular, distinctive and quite balanced.

The full face of the car is instantly recognizable - the predatory gaze of LED optics, the "family" grille with a honeycomb pattern and the sculptural bumper with the "mouth" of the air intake.

In profile, the electric crossover shows a squat silhouette with a short hood, a forward-shifted cabin and a chopped stern, which is swift and solid with a sloping roofline, embossed splashes on the sidewalls, “recessed” door handles and huge wheel arches accommodating “rollers” with dimensions from 18 to 22 inches

Well, a powerful rear with a small window, sophisticated lights and a pseudo-diffuser in the bumper harmoniously completes the modern look of the electric car.

The length of the Jaguar I-Pace is 4682 mm, of which the distance between the pairs of front and rear wheels extends to 2990 mm, the width is 1895 mm, and the height does not exceed 1565 mm.

In curb form, the five-door weighs 2208 kg, and its gross weight reaches 2670 kg.

The interior of the electric crossover is decorated “in the latest fashion” - with a minimum number of physical buttons and two screens on the center console: the top 10-inch is in charge of infotainment functions, and the bottom 5-inch is the climate control, text input and other secondary operations. Another widescreen display is located directly in the driver's field of vision, behind the embossed multifunction steering wheel, and is responsible for the role of the dashboard.

The interior of the car is distinguished by well-thought-out ergonomics, a premium level of assembly and exceptionally noble finishing materials.

"Apartments" Jaguar I-Pace have a five-seater layout. The front riders are provided with ergonomically profiled chairs with developed lateral support rollers, a large number of electrical adjustments, heating and other “benefits of civilization”.

On the second row there is a comfortable sofa, no floor tunnel and a sufficient supply of space even for three passengers (especially in the legs and in width).

The British electric car boasts two trunks at once: in the front there is a 27-liter “glove compartment”, and in the back there is a full-fledged cargo compartment with a volume of 656 liters. The rear sofa folds flush with the floor, due to which the capacity of the “hold” of the five-door increases to 1453 liters.

The Jaguar I-Pace EV400 is powered by two synchronized electric motors (one for each axle) driven by drive shafts, mated to single-speed planetary transmissions and differentials. The performance of each power plant is 200 horsepower and 348 Nm of torque, and their total potential reaches 400 hp. and 696 Nm of peak traction (moreover, power is delivered to the wheels throughout the entire rev range).

As standard, the electric crossover is equipped with a lithium-ion traction battery with a capacity of 90 kWh, which provides it with a “range” on a single charge of 480 km according to the WLTP cycle (that is, in real conditions - about 350-400 km). The battery has a liquid cooling system with two circuits and a pre-treatment unit that speeds up the process of "saturation" with electricity (if necessary, automatically lowering or raising the temperature after connecting to the network).

The "British" has a truly driver's character: from standstill to 100 km / h, he "catapults" in just 4.8 seconds. However, its top speed is fixed at around 200 km / h (for safety reasons).

It takes almost 13 hours from a conventional outlet to fully recharge the battery (up to 80% - 10 hours), however, from a fifty-kilowatt outlet, this process is reduced to one and a half hours, and from a hundred-kilowatt system, up to 40 minutes.

The Jaguar I-Pace is based on the original aluminum platform, which, according to certain parameters, is unified with other modern models of the brand. The body and chassis of the electric crossover are completely made of "winged metal", and the mass distribution along the axes is ideal - 50:50 (in addition, the traction battery is located under the cabin floor and is integrated into the power structure of the body, which provides a low center of gravity) .

The mid-size SUV in the "base" has an adaptive electric power steering and ventilated disc brakes on all wheels, complemented by a host of modern "bells and whistles".

An independent double wishbone suspension is installed on the front axle of the five-door, and a multi-link design with an “integral” lever (“in a circle” - with anti-roll bars, springs and passive shock absorbers) is installed on the rear axle.

As an option, the machine can be equipped with a pneumatic chassis with Adaptive Dynamics technology, which adjusts the body level in real time, regardless of the load. For example, the standard clearance is 135 mm, when driving off-road it rises to 185 mm, at high speeds it “squats” up to 125 mm, and it “lands” up to 95 mm to load heavy objects into the trunk.

In the Russian market, the Jaguar I-Pace in 2018 is offered in four trim levels to choose from - “S”, “SE”, “HSE” and “First Edition”.

A basic electric SUV can be purchased at a price of 5,825,000 rubles, and on a regular basis it can boast: six airbags, 20-inch alloy wheels, leather interior trim, full LED headlights and lights, a dual-zone "climate", a media complex with 10-inch inch screen, Meridian premium audio system, valet parking, ABS, ESP, electric front window heating, cruise, lane keeping and automatic braking technologies, power windows for all doors, a virtual dashboard and other goodies.

A car in the “top” version of the “First Edition” will cost from 7,353,000 rubles, and its features are: dynamic cruise control, tailgate servo drive, matrix head lighting, all-round cameras, more advanced “music”, panoramic roof, air suspension, four-zone climate control, emergency braking technology when driving at high speeds and the “darkness” of other progressive equipment.

Another promise of the famous British manufacturer has come true: the Jaguar I-Pace all-electric crossover, which has its roots from the concept of the same name, is presented to the public. The design of the crossover also repeats the concept in sufficient detail - which is only a plus, without exception.

Appearance Jaguar I-Pace

As noted above, the design of the serial Jaguar I-Pace retained almost everything from 2016: narrow LED-matrix head optics, the signature style of the radiator grille, and air intakes in the side faces of the front bumper. Behind - similar to the conceptual narrow strips of lanterns. They even retained the design of the rims - which is generally a rarity in the automotive world of the conceptual and serial.

Do you want to get mad at something? Here's the reason: the conceptual Jaguar I-Pace still had slightly different front and rear bumpers: more angular and sharp transitions created the impression of a swift and ready-to-throw beast. In the serial I-Pace, they are not in the same quantity and quality - the crossover turned out to be quite verified, carefully thought out and personally measured in detail by the chief designer of the company directly in the chamber of weights and measures.

At the same time, however, the I-Pace only formally bears the status of a crossover: according to a number of characteristics, it is a high-quality and balanced “SUV” without the usual and externally expressed parameters: the manufacturer notes the ideal weight distribution along the axes 50/50, but the ground clearance parameter does not appear in the characteristics. And what can I say, without unpainted black and gray plastic around the perimeter, what kind of “practicality” can we talk about? The wheel arches are also not decorated with plastic - which can be considered more of a minus than an obvious plus.

Finally, a small touch: the handles on the doors. At the Jaguar electric crossover, they are made in the spirit of the previously presented one: retractable from the key fob and almost invisible in the “travelling” state. It is worth noting that Russian journalists have already managed to conduct a “field” test of the mechanism’s ability to open even with complete external icing of the car - and the latter passed the test with honor, providing access to the salon.

A few words about aerodynamics. Yes, the Jaguar I-Pace is an electric crossover (let's still call it that, "SUV" - it's very insulting), so in theory it doesn't need a radiator grill. At least Tesla's competitors live just fine without it. However, in this case, it is albeit a little, but necessary - to cool the battery cells. Plus a system of active ventilation dampers that close when nothing needs to be cooled, thus providing a redistribution of air flows and a 0.29 aerodynamic drag coefficient laudable for this class.

Salon Jaguar I-Pace

A modern smart device is a big screen. A modern battery-powered car is also a device, right? So we get:

  • screen times - dashboard
  • screen two - multimedia system
  • screen three - climate unit
  • screen four and five - small displays on the "washers" of the central tunnel

For obvious reasons, not everything is touch-sensitive, but everything is very bright and visual. The central tunnel is made in a fairly minimalist spirit with a through opening (and backlighting!). Between the improvised "handles" you can and should put a smartphone so that one smart device communicates with another smart device, charging it in parallel. At the same time, these parts of the central tunnel cannot be used just in the “handles” format - on the left are the “gearbox” buttons (electronic handbrake, as well as the minimum standard D, N and R), and on the right are the transmission and driving mode settings buttons.

The multimedia system, in turn, is not at all a simple fruit: it is equipped with a new generation navigation system, which, firstly, “remembers” and analyzes the owner’s driving style, and secondly, evaluates the topography and route of all past trips in order to provide maximum comfort from a well-known route. Plus, if possible, will provide a minimum of expended battery energy. Under the driver, individual climate settings in the cabin will be used, the heating of the steering wheel and seats will be turned on or off. In general, as it was written above - maximum comfort.

What else? The dashboard is completely digital - and that's all that can be written about it. Maximum personalization, almost any design of scales and, in general, the way information is displayed - this is all about almost any modern digital dashboard, so the Jaguar I-Pace rather follows the trends, adjusted for its own technological solutions.

But there is almost nothing to say about the salon in general. Comfortable? Certainly. Practical? Of course (taking into account two rows of seats and a fairly spacious trunk of 656 liters, as well as a small "glove compartment" under the hood with a volume of 27 liters). Premium? By itself. Leather, wood, metal - like in the best houses. Plus a convenient laser projection display and a beautiful panoramic ceiling.

In the back row, legroom reaches 890 millimeters, and the missing central tunnel adds 10.5 liters of usable volume in the cabin. The car learns about the approach of the driver in advance (using a key fob or a Bluetooth signal from a smartphone) and sets up climate control, a multimedia complex and the position of the seat by the time the driver gets behind the wheel.

Specifications Jaguar I-Pace

electric crossover. What are his sore spots? That's right, power reserve and time to refuel. Let's start with them. All-wheel drive crossover - with a pair of synchronized electric motors along the axes (by the way, Jaguar's own development of engineers), developing a total of 400 hp. power and 696 Nm of torque. Drive shafts run straight through the motors, each motor is paired with a single-stage planetary transmission and differential. Underground between the axles is a battery with a capacity of 90 kWh, which in theory is capable of giving up to 480 km of travel (according to the more “realistic” WLTP methodology). The issue of charging is traditionally solved in two ways: from a household outlet in 13 hours and ... 40 minutes from a special charger. True, the manufacturer specifies that 40 minutes is up to 80%. And how many up to 100 is not known. Jaguar claims that all electronics and power plant will be able to work even at an ambient temperature of -40 degrees Celsius.

The dynamics of I-Pace is as follows:

  • acceleration to hundreds - 4.8 seconds
  • maximum speed - 200 km / h
  • cruising range - 480 kilometers.

Maximum comfort is traditionally offered for a fee - in the form of pneumatic springs. And in the "base" I-Pace is equipped with a fairly well-known scheme with a double-lever suspension in front and an Integral Link multi-link rear. The “ability” noted above to adapt the suspension to the usual route is also an option, this is the Adaptive Dynamics system. At the heart of the car is its own aluminum platform, designed specifically for electric crossovers.

Dimensions and weight:

  • length - 4682 mm
  • width - 1895 mm
  • height - 1565 mm
  • wheelbase - 2990 mm
  • weight - 2133 kg

Compared to the “older” F-Pace, the latter is only 64mm longer and 87mm taller. However, the “F” is 116 mm shorter in the wheelbase – which is clearly a plus for the space of the electrocross cabin. At the same time, the electrocross is much heavier than even the top-end “F” - by 272 kg.

The Austrian plant Magna Steyr, in Graz, took up the production of the crossover. The price of the Jaguar I-Pace has so far been announced only in the UK - from 63.5 thousand pounds, which is equivalent to 4.933 million rubles (price excluding government subsidies). The closest competitor in the face of the Tesla Model X (and a power reserve of 565 km) in Britain is estimated at 70.5 thousand (or 5.477 million rubles). At the same time, in fact, there is only one competitor so far - the new Mercedes EQ and Audi e-tron still have not left the concept format.

As for the domestic market, it will be possible to buy the Jaguar I-Pace in Russia very soon: in the summer they will announce the configuration and prices of the crossover, and in the fall official sales will begin.

Jaguar is also switching to electric traction: in a year, a separate electric crossover of the X590 project will appear in the model range - on the chassis of the F-Pace SUV, but with a unique design and layout. For him, his own name was chosen - I-Pace. So far, Jaguar has brought only a concept version of this electric car to the Los Angeles Auto Show, but brand chief designer Ian Callum assured that the production car will differ from the show car in only a few details.

And that's great, because the I-Pace is one of the most colorful and distinctive cars of our day. The rejection of the traditional powertrain allowed the designers to make the hood shorter and apply a cab-forward layout with the interior shifted forward. The result was an unusual “front-wheel drive” silhouette, in which the Jaguars encoded quotes from the design of the XJ220, C-X75 supercars, as well as the canonical E-Type coupe. And all this - on a high crossover chassis.

It is based on a completely new platform developed under German specialist Wolfgang Siebart, veteran BMW and former Continental chief electronics engineer who moved to Jaguar Land Rover and from 2013 to mid-2015 was in charge of all engineering for the English company. Last year, the German gave up his post to Briton Nick Rogers, but he still oversees the electric car project.

There are few unconventional solutions in technology: a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery is placed under the floor of the body, and identical electric motors with a capacity of 200 hp are located on each axle. Together they develop 400 hp. and 700 Nm, promising to accelerate the I-Pace to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. Yaguar's know-how lies in the fact that the gearboxes are placed coaxially with the motors and the right axle shafts pass through the electric motors. This decision made it possible to make the power unit more compact: only 234 mm in diameter and 500 mm in length.

The suspension and steering mechanism are completely borrowed from the F-Pace crossover: a double-lever is used in front, and a multi-link scheme with an “integral” lower arm is used in the rear. However, the I-Pace was the first Jaguar since 2009 to be equipped with a full-fledged air suspension: it has air struts on all four wheels, and not just on the rear ones, like the XJ sedan. Apparently, this option will soon appear on the F-Pace crossover.

The full battery of the electric crossover should last for 500 km, and it will be possible to charge it at terminals with alternating or direct current (50 kW direct current fully charges the battery in two hours). Jaguars do not plan hybrid versions with an onboard generator: “It makes no sense, there is almost no demand for such modifications, batteries are becoming cheaper, and with our power reserve, owners can charge the I-Pace only once a week,” Wolfgang said at a presentation in Los Angeles Sibart.

The body is completely aluminum, and the electric vehicle layout has reduced the dimensions of the car and increased the space in the cabin. The electric Jaguar is comparable in size to the Porsche Macan crossover (4680 mm in length), but between the axles it has 2990 mm: 95 mm more than the Porsche Cayenne SUV, and only 42 mm less than the Jaguar XJ sedan.

The floor in the cabin is completely flat. Instead of a central tunnel, there is a central “column” on which the front panel console rests. The transmission selector has become a set of buttons under the driver's right hand. The "start" key is on the lower spoke of the steering wheel. These are the most noticeable innovations in the jaguar interior. The virtual instrument cluster, wide 12-inch central touchscreen and auxiliary touchscreen for the air conditioning system are also new to British cars, but against the backdrop of Tesla and the new generation Porsche Panamera hatchback, it all looks mainstream. In addition, Jaguar still retained the rotary knobs for selecting the temperature.
