The VAZ 2114 light is on. The battery light is on on the panel - search for causes and solutions to this problem

The instrument cluster on the VAZ 2114 is located on the left side of the dashboard, which motorists often call a "torpedo". The dashboard also contains various switches and indicator lights that are necessary to control lighting equipment, a heater and other important units.

Located on the left side of the dashboard, right in front of the driver's seat, the VAZ 2114 instrument cluster plays an important role in driving. It houses pointer instruments, VAZ 2114 indicators with electronic digital windows and signal lights for various purposes.

  • The induction speedometer, which receives speed readings from a sensor located directly in the gearbox, shows the actual speed of the car from zero to two hundred kilometers per hour. The division price is 10 km/h. It must be borne in mind that such devices have an allowable error of at least 5 km / h. In the lower, central part of the device there is a window with an electronic display, in which the total mileage for the entire period of operation of the machine and the current mileage are reflected in two lines.
  • To the left of the speedometer is the tachometer. This is an electronic device that, receiving a signal from the on-board computer, shows the current crankshaft speed at that particular moment. The scale has divisions of 5 units, digitization is done through 10 units, the maximum value is 80. When multiplied by 100, the real number of revolutions is obtained, for example, 30 times 100, it turns out - 3000 rpm. The range 55 - 60 is shaded in red - this indicates the approach to critical speed. The critical range 60 - 80 is shaded in red. If the speed increases to these values, the engine may fail. In the lower middle part of the device, electronic indication displays the time and the actual ambient temperature.
  • To the left of the tachometer is the coolant temperature gauge. It receives a signal about the real state from the coolant temperature sensor, which is located between the cylinder head and the thermostat. The division value is 20 degrees. Digitization of the device starts at 50, after two divisions it stands at 90 and the divisions end at 130 degrees. The red, dangerous zone starts at 105 degrees. If the arrow enters this zone, then the engine must be immediately turned off, no matter what mode it is in. Due to overheating of the engine, failure of the main blocks of the power unit is possible. In the upper part, near the number 130, there is a graphic temperature icon. To the right of the speedometer is a device showing the presence and level of fuel in the car's fuel tank.

The numbers on the scale indicate:

  1. 0 is an empty tank.
  2. ½ - half a tank.
  3. 1 is a full tank.

The graphic symbol of the gas station at the top of the device indicates a fully filled tank. At the bottom right, a gas station indicator lights up in orange, indicating that the balance in the tank is less than six liters.

Designation of bulbs and indicators on the instrument panel VAZ 2114

The dashboard, by definition, is designed to place instruments, indicators and switches on it that could inform the driver about the current state of various vehicle systems, signal an emergency during the operation of the car or failures of any units, as well as using buttons and switches control individual equipment or mechanisms.

The designation of icons on the instrument panel of the VAZ 2114 is made in accordance with all the requirements and standards that call for the unification of designations so that they are absolutely clear to every driver. The designations on the instrument panel of the VAZ 2114 with the injection engine of the latest releases are located mainly in the lower part of the instrument cluster:

1 - icon of a light bulb signaling a drop in the oil level in the engine crankcase below the minimum level, lights up in red;

2 - this light indicates an insufficient level of washer fluid, lights up in orange when there is less than one liter left in the tank;

3 - this icon, which lights up in orange, indicates a decrease in the coolant level in the expansion tank with a cold engine below the permissible level;

4 - the icon of the signal light of open doors, lights up in red;

5 - signaling device for malfunction of "stop lights" or dimensions;

6 - this is a warning light for a malfunction in the brake system, reports the development of brake pads;

7 - light bulb icon that informs about unfastened seat belts.

On earlier releases of the car, the designation of the bulbs on the dashboard of the VAZ 2114 in its lower part is somewhat different when viewed from left to right:

Designation of icons on the instrument panel VAZ 2114

  • emergency oil pressure icon (18), lights up red when the level drops below the minimum;
  • red signal light for handbrake activation (17), if it is on, it means that the brake is not released;
  • a signal light with an icon depicting a battery (16), which lights up when it is discharged;
  • signal light (9) indicating that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is below the minimum level.

In addition, motorists should know what the lights on the instrument panel of the VAZ 2114 mean, indicating the operability of the lighting equipment or the condition of the engine:

  • in the upper part of the instrument cluster between the speedometer and the tachometer there are two green arrows (3 and 4) signaling the inclusion of turn signals on the left or right;
  • below is a triangular red emergency stop icon (13);
  • under the emergency stop sign there is a CHECK ENGINE lamp (14), which lights up red when there is any malfunction in the engine automatics;
  • on the right there is a blue high beam lamp (10), it lights up when it is turned on and a green one (8) - low beam.

Button designation

It is also important to know the designation of the buttons on the VAZ 2114 panel. There is a button (11) on the instrument cluster on the right side, with which the time and temperature on the digital indicator are switched, and when pressed for 5 seconds or more, the current mileage is reset if pressed this button when the vehicle is stationary.

In the central part of the dashboard are located in a row:

Double headlight switch. Button 1 turns on the dimensions, button 2 - low beam;

Block of key switches. The first 1 - turns on the front fog lights, the second 2 - rear fog lights and the third 3 turns on the heated rear window.

I welcome you friends to the DIY auto repair site. When you turn the ignition key, a number of warning lights on the instrument panel light up. They signal the health of the system and the readiness of the engine to start.

One of these indicators has an image of a battery. When the ignition is turned on, it starts to be highlighted, and after starting the engine, it goes out.

This indicates that the battery is being charged. But what if it didn't happen? Why is the battery charging light on even after starting?

A bit of theory: work scheme

To solve the existing problem, you must understand the essence of the interaction between the vehicle alternator and the power source (battery).

In the process of movement, the battery is in the mode of constant recharging with a voltage of 13.6-14.2 Volts. With an increase in engine speed, the voltage at the output of the generator increases. But this is unacceptable.

To limit the voltage, a small relay-regulator cuts into the excitation circuit of the rotor. Its task is to reduce the current to a normal level (even with a significant increase in the number of revolutions).

The result is maintaining the battery charge voltage at a stable level. If the battery light is on, this indicates that the generator is not charging.

How does the circuit work? After turning on the ignition, voltage through fuse No. 10 (for VAZ-2107) is supplied to the battery charge control lamp.

Next, the voltage "+ 12V" passes through the diode, built-in relay-regulator (we mentioned it above), brush, slip ring and winding.

As soon as the rotor speed increases, the phase voltage also increases. As a result, the voltage at the terminals of the battery warning light equalizes, and it goes out. At the same time, the battery is being charged.

Reasons why the battery charging light is on

In fact, there are many reasons why the battery light comes on and does not go out. These include:

  • Weakening of the belt tension on the generator, its wear or damage;
  • blown fuse or deterioration of contact quality in the connectors of the mounting block;
  • failure of the relay-regulator, diode bridge, additional diodes;
  • the appearance of an open in the excitation circuit of the generator;
  • decrease in the quality of the contact at the battery terminals or the generator output;
  • wear generator brushes ;
  • lack of high-quality ground wire contact.

What should I do if the battery charging light is on?

First of all, get out of the car and, with the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery terminals (do not remove the clamps in any case).

If charging is in progress, then the voltage should be at the level of 13.6-14.2 Volts. In the absence of a charge, the voltage level will be much lower - about 12 volts.

To fix the problem, prepare the following tools:

  • twelve volt control light
  • two screwdrivers (flat and cross-shaped sting),
  • multimeter,
  • pliers,
  • knife,
  • use sandpaper to clean the contacts.

So let's get started:

1. On-board voltmeter readings indicate the presence of a charge, the charge signal lamp is on dashboard does not light up, there are about 12 volts at the battery terminals, and the battery itself is almost discharged.

In such a situation, strip the wire connections on the power supply itself. If these measures were useless, measure the voltage level at terminal "30" of the generator itself.

With one probe of the multimeter, sit on this terminal, and with the other - on the ground. If the voltage here is much higher than on the battery, then strip the thirtieth terminal. If necessary, replace the wire from the alternator to the battery.

2. The voltmeter on the dashboard and the lamp show the presence of a charge, but the battery is dead.

The voltage on the battery is normal (about 14 volts). Turning on the load (for example, headlights) leads to a displacement of the charge arrow to the leftmost position.

The main reason is the weak tension of the belt on the alternator pulley (tighten the belt, and if it is damaged, replace it).

A breakdown of one of the diodes, as well as a break in the stator phase winding, can also lead to such a problem. Turn off the ignition and check the diodes with a multimeter. In case of breakdown, replace them.

Check alternator brushes. To do this, take them out and measure the length. If it is less than five millimeters, then it is better to replace the brushes.

3. When the key is turned in the ignition lock, the charge signal lamp does not light up, the charge sensor does not work, there is no battery charging. The reason is a blown fuse.

Its designation is F10, the nominal value is 10 Amperes. If the installation of a new fuse did not work, then the cause must be sought in the ignition relay or the lock itself.

4. After turning on the ignition, there is no charge, all devices are working, the control signal lamp does not light up.

The check is simple - remove the wiring from the sixty-one terminal of the generator and connect it directly to the "minus" (car body). If the light comes on, then the cause of the problems is the excitation winding of the generator.

The second option is a bad contact in the connector. If there is no result after stripping, then there is a risk of the lamp itself burning out.

5. When the key is turned in the ignition switch, the charge lamp is on, and after cranking it continues to scroll. In this case, there is no charge or appears periodically. The reason is insufficient contact of the wire on the connector with the dashboard (it can oxidize).

Finally, check the relay-regulator. To do this, apply voltage from the battery to its contacts. If there are 12 volts on the brushes, then the relay is working properly. If not, then the device must be replaced.

If you have problems with charging the battery (the signal lamp does not go out or does not light up at all), then check all versions.

But, as a rule, the problem is always on the surface, and the reason is poor contact, a burnt out light bulb or a faulty relay regulator. Good luck on the road and of course no breakdowns.

If the engine lamp is on on the VAZ 2110, then many reasons can contribute to this. We will consider in our article why the engine light is on on the VAZ 2110 and what needs to be done in this case.

What is this bulb for?

It is simply impossible to imagine modern cars without special sensors. It is they who signal the appearance of problems and various malfunctions.
If earlier the owner of the car had to independently, so to speak "manually" detect malfunctions, today this is not the case. Electronics took care of everything and there are quite a few such sensors on the VAZ 2110.
Check Engine is a special lamp that usually glows yellow and by which the driver determines the operation of the car's engine. In normal mode, this very lamp lights up for a few seconds and immediately goes out as soon as the engine picks up speed.
What to do when the light is on and does not go out, even while the car is moving?

Note. As soon as the owner of the VAZ 2110 finds that the engine lamp is on constantly and does not go out, he should immediately drive to the service station if it is nearby. If not, then the engine must be turned off and a tow truck called, as you can simply destroy the engine.

Let's go back to the beginning of the 90s, when car owners knew that this sensor or lamp, in a simple way, could only report malfunctions in the carburetor or insufficient oil in the engine.
Today, the situation is fundamentally different, and if the lamp is constantly on, then anything is possible: incorrect engine speed, ignition problems, problems with automatic transmission, etc. In a word, today many parameters are controlled by this same sensor.

Causes

Consider the most famous.

Oil

  • Insufficient lubrication in the engine is the most well-known cause, which is not known to, except perhaps the most distant person from technology.

  • The car must be urgently stopped and listen to the engine. You need to be able to determine by ear whether there are extraneous noises. In addition, you should visually inspect for any damage to the case or smudges.
  • If the above points were discovered, then they must be immediately eliminated, in the service station or in your own garage.

Poor quality fuel

  • Yes, don't be surprised. It is the quality of the fuel, which today, to put it mildly, is in great doubt, is the number one reason. Due to diluted fuel, soot accumulates. As a result, the candles, or one of them, are not able to supply a normal spark. The engine starts to “troit” and the sensor does not stop sounding the alarm.
  • In this case, there is only one treatment: drain the dirty fuel from the tank into some container (in the future, this semi-gasoline can be used as a detergent for spare parts) and fill in new fuel from a trusted tanker.

Candles

  • The spark plugs themselves may be faulty.
  • The solution to this problem is very simple: you need to check all the candles and replace the old ones.
  • Spark plugs are the main components designed to ignite the fuel mixture. If they are faulty, then the spark is not supplied correctly.

Advice. You can also identify faulty candles while driving the VAZ 2110. During the acceleration of the car, especially from a standstill, small jolts are felt. Note. It is imperative to monitor the gap of the candles between the electrode, which should not exceed 1.3 mm.

Coil

  • The lamp may also indicate problems in the ignition coil.
  • It is necessary to check whether the coil gives current, whether the contacts have weakened, check the resistance at the outputs. The spark spread should also not exceed 1-4 and 2-3.

oxygen regulator

  • It often causes the engine light to come on.
  • It is not difficult to check this sensor and in case of its malfunction, it is necessary to put a new one and throw the old one away.

Note. If you do not replace this sensor, which is known to be the oxygen regulator in the car and part of the exhaust aftertreatment system, there will be problems with fuel consumption.
The very malfunction of this sensor will mean that the on-board computer receives incorrect data, which will significantly increase not only fuel consumption, but also significantly reduce engine power.

  • The reason that it becomes unusable can be considered that this sensor is covered with a layer of used oil over time. This, in turn, reduces the accuracy of the controller performance.

  • If this sensor, which has become unusable, is not changed for a long time, this can lead to additional problems. The VAZ 2110 catalyst may fail (just burst). And this threatens with costly repairs.

Catalyst

  • It can also cause the Check Engine to catch fire.
  • There is only one solution: replace the catalyst, of course, before checking it.

Note. This element helps to make the exhaust gases environmentally friendly. This is a must in recent years. The catalyst is responsible for converting carbon monoxide and other harmful substances into harmless compounds.

  • If the catalyst is out of order, then you can notice this not only when the engine icon appears, but also long before that. For example, if the power of the VAZ 2110 power unit drops by 2 times, then this may indicate a malfunction. In addition, a damaged catalyst will not allow the car to accelerate well.

Note. Usually the catalyst does not fail if the car owner regularly conducts maintenance. The owner should pay special attention to the oxygen sensor and replace the faulty one in time so that the problem does not spread to the catalyst. In addition, it is necessary to monitor the spark plugs, which after the end of their service life must be replaced.

nozzles

  • If the Check Engine sensor lights up due to the injectors, then they will need to be cleaned or replaced.

fuel pump or filter

  • The lamp may light up due to a faulty one.
  • Treatment involves the following list of actions: the pressure in the ramp is measured. The value should not be lower than three atmospheres.

  • In addition, you need to check the mesh, the pump filter and try to clean it.

Tank cap

  • Yes it is. It would seem that such an insignificant component as a cover can cause the engine light to light up.
    The fact is that such a cover violates the tightness of the entire system. This is where the engine icon comes in.

  • It is clear that the leakage of the entire fuel system leads to an increase in the car. The diagnostics of the VAZ 2110 immediately reacts to this, giving an engine error through the light bulb.
  • In this case, the solution to the problem comes down to checking the cover and its tightness. If it has cracks, then it is better to replace it with a new one.

Mass air flow controller

  • As mentioned above, the modern modification of the VAZ 2110 is endowed with many different sensors, one of which is this one. It is responsible for supplying the required amount of air to the gasoline mixture in order to create optimal ignition of the fuel.

  • This sensor constantly tells the on-board computer how much air is being supplied.
  • If the sensor is faulty, then fuel consumption increases, engine power decreases.

Note. If this sensor malfunctions in the cold season, the car will be difficult to start.

  • The reason for the failure of this regulator can be called incorrect installation.
  • With a broken sensor, you can drive for a long time, but fuel consumption will constantly increase.
  • Replacing the regulator usually does not require a lot of money. And it will be possible to carry out the replacement with your own hands.

High voltage wires

  • It is also a well-known and common cause of a light bulb catching fire.
  • The solution is the same as in the previous cases: check and replace.

Note. High-voltage wires can cause a number of special problems for the motorist, the owner of the VAZ 2110, so a separate chapter is devoted to this component.

Examination:

  • You have to pour water into a pot. Utensils must be made of stainless steel.
  • Add a little salt there (about a tablespoon).
  • Get a megger. Lower the wires into this water so that the ends are on the surface of the liquid.
  • We connect the device to the first tip, using a clamp for this operation.
  • With the second clamp we catch the dishes with water, where the wires themselves are located.

Note. Normal insulation (greater than a megohm) is 500 kΩ or more. If the value is lower, the wires must be replaced, as they pass current.

The above causes of light bulbs are the most common. Inspection and replacement of damaged spare parts can be done by hand, thereby saving the price of services in the service station.
The main thing is to do everything according to the instructions, studying the photo and video materials in the process.

Hello. If on your car VAZ 2109 -2114, with the engine running, the battery charge light is on or lights up and goes out when you pick up speed, then this article will be useful to you. The light should go out as soon as the engine starts. Below I will describe in detail the causes of this malfunction and how to fix it.

Why is the battery icon on the instrument panel of the VAZ 2109 -2114 on.

If you explain the cause of this malfunction in a nutshell - the battery light is on when the generator does not charge the battery or there is an open in this circuit (e.g. blown fuse).List of all reasons why the light comes on:

  1. Blown fuse in the mounting block (f16).
  2. The terminals on the battery are oxidized.
  3. Alternator belt broken or slipping.
  4. The brushes were worn out.
  5. Faulty relay - regulator.
  6. Breakdown of the diode bridge.
  7. Open or short circuit in the stator or rotor of the generator.
  8. Breakage of the negative wire supplying the instrument panel (generator has nothing to do with it).

Finding the reason why the light is on.

If you see that the VAZ 2114 - 2109 charging light is on, then feel free to open the hood and see if the alternator drive belt has fallen off. Also, the belt should not make extraneous noise. After checking the belt, we move on, open the cover of the mounting block and check if the fuse has blown. f16 (on the cover there is a numbering of all fuses). Is the fuse intact? If yes, we move on.

Having a multimeter would be a big plus. We check the voltage at the battery terminals with a multimeter - it should be 14.4V (small deviations of one tenth of a volt are possible). If the voltage meets the standard, then you most likely have a negative wire supplying the instrument panel, otherwise we measure the voltage between the positive terminal of the generator and ground. It should also be 14.4V. If this is the case, then the battery terminals or the rings that are put on the terminals are most likely oxidized. Brush them to a shine.

There is no 14V at the output of the generator, which means you have to remove it because it does not charge. The culprit may be:

  • Brushes.
  • Relay - regulator.
  • Diode bridge.
  • Stator or rotor windings.

The light comes on at idle and then goes off.

A separate description requires a problem when the light comes on or shines dimly at idle and goes out with a set of revolutions. In such cases, there can be only two reasons:

  1. Faulty relay - regulator.
  2. The alternator belt is slipping.

I hope this article helped you understand the reasons why the battery light on VAZ 2109 - 2114 cars lights up.

Leave your questions and comments in the comments, I will definitely answer them!

Many motorists have encountered the fact that the low oil level indicator in the engine lights up on the VAZ-2114 instrument panel. This may be due to several reasons. But, the main one is low oil level. Although, the malfunction may be hidden elsewhere. Consider the causes of the oil level light on, as well as methods for solving the problem.

Location and arrangement of the oil level sensor

Low oil level light in the engine on the instrument panel (marked with a red arrow)

Low oil pressure light in the engine on the instrument panel (marked with a red arrow), not to be confused with low oil level

So, it becomes clear that the lighting of the oil level light is inextricably linked directly with the sensor. Before you determine the malfunction, you need to figure out the location of the sensor under the hood.

The oil level sensor is located near the block, at the bottom.

The sensor has a tube that reaches almost to the bottom of the crankcase. The contact group sends a signal to the corresponding indicators. For VAZ-2114 until 2004, electrical connections went directly to the dashboard, like the "nine". But, after the modernization of the car, since 2004, the contact connections of the electrical circuit were laid through the electronic control unit, which should control the operation of the sensors and the engine as a whole.

Causes of the malfunction

Oil level sensor

When the device of operation and the circuitry of the oil level sensor became clear, you can consider the reasons for the light on the dashboard to light up. So, let's consider all the possible reasons that can cause the indicator on the VAZ-2114 dashboard to light up:

  • Low oil level.
  • Sensor failure.
  • The problem is in the chain of contacts.
  • Short circuit inside the instrument panel.
  • Malfunctions in the computer.

Elimination Methods

Now you can go directly to the elimination methods. First you need to figure out what tools you may need to complete the process: a 10 wrench, a multimeter, a set of screwdrivers. Now that everything is assembled, you can go directly to solving problems.

Low oil level on dipstick

Oil production and wear can affect its level, so it is worth checking this indicator regularly.

Also, the cause of oil loss in the engine can be or breakdown in the crankcase. In order to eliminate the loss of oil, it was worth eliminating the malfunctions that caused the effect to appear, and then adding oil to the required level.

To measure the oil level indicator, there is a special tool called an oil dipstick. It is located on the front of the engine. . When the indicator falls below the MIN mark, the oil level indicator lights up on the dashboard.

Sensor failure

A sensor malfunction can also cause an oil level indicator to appear on the dashboard. To eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to check the sensor, and if it is faulty, replace the part.

Old and new oil level sensor

The replacement process is quite simple and not complicated. Let's consider the issue in more detail. To complete the operation, you need a key for 10. So, let's proceed directly to the sequence of actions aimed at replacing the sensor:

  1. The car must be installed so that there is access from below. For this, a viewing hole, a lift or a flyover is suitable.
  2. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery.

    Remove the negative terminal from the battery

  3. If there is, it is necessary to dismantle the lower engine protection.

    Removing the engine crankcase

  4. We dismantle the pallet. Pre-required.

    We carry out the dismantling of the pallet

  5. Disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor.
  6. Using a key or head for 10, unscrew the oil level sensor.

    We remove the sensor

  7. We install a new sensor and carry out the necessary assembly.

Problem in the contact circuit

Diagnostics of the fuel level sensor chips

Repeatedly, the cause may be a break in the wires or the contact group that goes from the sensor to the electronic control unit. Based on the electrical circuit of the car, we find the corresponding wire that feeds the meter. Next, we find exactly the same in the ECU and call it.

If there is no contact, then a break has occurred in this area and should be eliminated. We carry out the same procedure with the rest of the wires.

Short circuit inside the instrument panel

Repeatedly, the cause of the light on the dashboard may be a short circuit inside the dashboard board. This may be caused by corrosion damage or a short circuit inside the instrument panel. Thus, the solution to the problem may be to repair the board or replace the instrument cluster.

Checking the contacts of the dashboard board

It is quite easy to determine the malfunction: you just have to disassemble the tidy and look at the contact connections. Also, for complete certainty, you can ring the contacts on the board and directly on the indicator lamp itself, using a tester.

Malfunctions in the VAZ-2114 ECU

The last possible option where to look for a malfunction is the electronic control unit. Errors may occur here that will serve not only to light up the oil level light, but also to malfunction of other indicators, such as a speedometer, direction indicator, and others.

The troubleshooting method is to connect a laptop or tablet to the “brains” of the car via an OBD cable and a standard test. If errors related to the oil level are found in the ECU, they must be reset. The procedure for resetting all errors should be done for all the indicators that have accumulated in the "brains". After that, the problem should disappear, if not, then the malfunction must be looked for elsewhere.

conclusions

Determining the cause of the engine oil level light on the VAZ-2114 dashboard is quite simple, even for a novice motorist. Diagnostic operations are carried out simply and clearly. The only problem may be resetting the ECU errors, which is recommended to be entrusted to professionals.
