Specifications

With the same body width (1,854 mm), the length of the new Chevrolet Malibu 2016-2017 increased by 58 millimeters - up to 4,917, and the wheelbase added 91 mm - up to 2,829, while the weight was reduced by 136 kg. This was largely achieved due to the wider use of high-strength steels in the construction.

As power units for the Chevrolet Malibu 9, four-cylinder petrol turbo engines with a working volume of 1.5 (160 hp and 249 Nm) and 2.0 (250 hp and 350 Nm) liters are offered. The first is paired with a six-speed automatic, and the second is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In addition, from now on, the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid with a hybrid installation from the new one has become available to customers. It consists of a 1.8-liter internal combustion engine, a pair of electric motors (the total output of all engines is 182 hp), as well as a set of lithium-ion batteries. The total mileage on electric traction is not specified, and the average fuel consumption in hybrid mode is 5.2 l / 100 km versus 6.3 liters for the version with a 1.5-liter engine.

Options and prices

Sales of the new Chevrolet Malibu 9 started in the US in the fourth quarter of 2015, no pricing information. The model has several versions: L, LS, LT, Premier and Hybrid. Top flaunt LED running lights and LED taillights.

Traditionally, Chevrolet cars were sold exclusively in the North American continent, but in 2011 the new Chevrolet Malibu became the first model of the family, which marked the beginning of a full-scale expansion of American cars into world markets.

First generation Chevrolet Malibu (1964-1967)

Chevrolet Chevelle was supposed to push the Ford Fairlane in the market. Among the models offered were 2-door convertibles and hardtop coupes, 4-door station wagons and 4-door sedans. Third generation Chevrolet Malibu (1973-1977)

The third-generation Chevy sold a total of about 1.7 million copies. The car was positioned as "the most popular middle-class car in America." 1973 was the busiest year for the line in terms of the number and quality of modifications introduced. Fourth generation Chevrolet Malibu (since 1978)

In 1978, the name "Malibu" was finally assigned to the most popular car in the Chevrolet lineup. The updated Chevy has become shorter and lighter, but there is more legroom and headroom. The lineup was performed in two configurations: Chevrolet Malibu Classic and Chevrolet Malibu. The body was offered in coupe, sedan and station wagon versions. Since 1983, all cars of the Malibu series have been produced with a branded badge on the front fenders. In 1981, in the Canadian city of Oshawa, a branch of General Motors began the production of 4-door sedans for the government of Iraq. Of the ordered 25.5 thousand cars, only 13 thousand were shipped. Almost all of them were later used in Baghdad as taxi cars. The rest of the Iraqi government refused, citing the inability of local drivers to adapt to the gearbox. After all, abandoned Malibu were sold in Canada for $6,800, while Chevrolet Malibu sold in the US were almost twice as expensive.

Fifth generation Chevrolet Malibu (since 1997)

In 1997, the Chevrolet Malibu was presented to the public with a front-wheel drive on a wide platform wheelbase GM N. In the same year, Chevy Malibu was named "car of the year" according to Motor Trend magazine. In 2004, the Malibu model appeared on the Epsilon wheelbase.

Sixth generation Chevrolet Malibu (since 2002)

In 2002, the management of the automaker decided to transfer all new generations of Malibu to the Epsilon platform with two body types - a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon.

Seventh generation Chevrolet Malibu (since 2008)

All parts of the machine are optimized in terms of improving aerodynamic performance. Inside the cabin is a 7-inch touch screen, behind which is hidden a small compartment. The model went on sale in the same year, but it is still not for sale in Russia. Brand marketers decided that in our country they do not like such cars from this manufacturer and therefore many models of companies are not sold in our country, which is a pity.

Design

The appearance of the model has changed dramatically, here is a completely different style. Now this is not a sedan, but a fastback, that is, a coupe-like roof of a car. The muzzle will please with a long hood and rather high and noticeable reliefs on the hood. The optics of the model has completely changed, it is very narrow, it contains chrome elements and lenses.

Between the headlights we see a small narrow grille, in fact it is larger, as it is divided into two sections. The large section is at the bottom, it is an octagon. Both parts of the grille have a chrome frame. At the bottom are club-shaped fog lights, which are accentuated by the shape of the bumper itself. In the same area are small air intakes, the task of which is to cool the front brake discs. There is a plastic insert at the bottom of the bumper, which is a splitter.

Looking at the Chevrolet Malibu 2019 model from the side, you are surprised at the aggressive body shape, by the way, from this side, many notice the resemblance to the BMW 3 Series from the front. There are many designer stamping lines, from the rear light to the front handles, smooth lines in the middle, passing to the front arch, and of course a deep stamping line at the bottom. The wheel arches have been widened quite a lot, which gives the model a muscular appearance. Narrow windows have a massive chrome trim. In general, the side part looks cool.

At the back we see a stylish small trunk lid, which resembles in shape. Also, this trunk lid forms a small spoiler with its own shape, which plays well on aerodynamics. Narrow lanterns with beautiful fillings were installed, similar ones were installed in the last generation. The rear bumper is quite massive, it has a large plastic protection in the lower part, and in the same area there are two hexagonal pipes of the exhaust system.

The model in the line has three completely new and underpowered power units that will delight its owner with relatively high reliability, since there is essentially nothing to break down and relatively low fuel consumption.

1. The weakest engine is the hybrid, which is a 1.8-liter petrol engine and an electric motor. In total, they give out 124 horsepower and 175 units of torque. It is this engine that will delight its owner with a low consumption of only 5 liters of 95th gasoline both on the highway and in the city. Also, the model will be able to drive only on an electric motor, but it will not be very dynamic and this will only be enough for 88 kilometers.
2. Then, in increasing power, there is a 1.5-liter gasoline unit, in which there is a turbocharger. It produces 160 horsepower and 250 H*m of torque. Of course, he has more consumption, in the city he will need almost 9 liters, and 6 liters will go along the highway.
3. And finally, the most powerful engine in the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu line is a sixteen-valve turbine unit. It produces 250 horsepower and 350 units of torque. His consumption is 11 liters in the city and 7 liters on the highway.

Unfortunately, we cannot say anything about the dynamics of these motors, since there is no data. As for gearboxes, there are different gearboxes for almost every motor. The first and second are paired with a six-speed automatic, and the third engine can be offered to the buyer with both an automatic eight-speed gearbox and an automatic nine-speed gearbox. The drive in all trim levels is front.

Compared to the previous generation, the chassis of the model has not changed. Here, MacPherson struts are also installed in front, and a multi-link system is located at the back. The manufacturer tried to use high-strength steel, which reduced the weight of the car by 130 kg compared to the previous version. It is quite easy to manage the model, the electric booster helps in this, the sedan stops with the help of disk, rather powerful brakes.

The interior of the Chevrolet Malibu 2018 has also changed dramatically, now it looks much more modern than most competitors and, of course, than previous generations. Mostly leather of different shades is used as finishing materials, but in some parts there are also wooden inserts. The build quality is quite high.

In front there are excellent seats with leather upholstery, they are electrically adjustable in 8 directions. Sitting is quite comfortable, there is a little lateral support, in general, the chairs are good. The back row is also sheathed in leather, it is a sofa that easily accommodates 3 passengers. There is quite enough free space, there may be heating and two deflectors of the climate system.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu 2019 will get a 3-spoke leather steering wheel with a massive chrome insert and many buttons for controlling the multimedia system and cruise control. The instrument panel consists of two large analog gauges for the tachometer and speedometer, and there are also fuel level and oil temperature sensors at the top. Beautifully inserted chrome edging, which touches all the sensors a little bit. In the middle is a fairly large and informative on-board computer.

The center console at the top has a 7-inch or 8-inch display in expensive versions. This display looks like a tablet, but for which they made a perfect place. The display is touch-sensitive, and below it there are buttons for adjusting the volume and switching tracks. After that, there is an alarm button, and already under it is a separate climate control unit. The block is a large number of buttons, which are decorated with chrome trim. A display is built into the knobs and it is on it that the temperature is displayed. At the very bottom is a 12V socket, AUX port and USB.

The tunnel is completely made of wood, its initial part has a box for small things, and after that there is a gear selector. On the right are two cup holders with chrome trim. After all this, we are met by an armrest. The trunk is not the largest, but quite good, its volume is 447 liters.

Price Chevrolet Malibu 2018-2019

The model will have 5 trim levels, and the minimum one will cost a minimum $23,000. For the most expensive version, the manufacturer will ask for much more, namely $ 30,000. The equipment of the car is excellent, here is what it will please its owner with:

• smartphone wireless charging system;
• 10 airbags;
• a system that adjusts behavior if there are children in the car;
• automatic braking if necessary;
• pedestrian recognition;
• LED optics;
• adaptive cruise control;
• separate climate control and much more.

As a result, I would like to say that GM has created an excellent urban sedan that will please the owner and passengers with high comfort and a large presence of functions. Unfortunately, it will not be the most suitable option for a young audience, as the dynamics are not surprising. Of course, this is a good car, it is a pity that it is not for sale in our country.

At the beginning of April 2015, at the international exhibition in New York, GM, on behalf of Chevrolet, introduced the next, already the ninth generation of the mid-size Malibu sedan. The car has changed dramatically: it has become "sportier" in appearance, has received a new interior, added in size, lost more than a hundred kilograms and acquired a hybrid power plant.

The overseas audience was able to appreciate all the charms of the novelty already in the fourth quarter of the same year, but, alas, it did not reach Russia (for reasons “not clear to marketers” - Russian motorists do not like mid-size American sedans, a good example is the previous generation Malibu, and before him Epica).

Exactly three years after the debut, the car went through a small, but comprehensive restyling. The four-door "refreshed" externally - having changed the radiator grille, the lighting equipment "in a circle" and the bumper (thus slightly adding to solidity); got a new multimedia system with a non-alternative 8-inch screen, “armed” with new modern equipment and received a new transmission for the base engine (a stepless variator “replaced the 6-band “automatic” at the post) ... But the changes did not end there either - the sedan for the first time in its history, the "RS" version appeared, which differs from other versions in its "sporty" design.

By the way, the "ninth" Chevrolet Malibu, as a result of a change of generations, also experienced a serious change in style, turning into a fastback - a sedan with a dynamic compartment roof, original stampings on the sidewalls, a strongly inclined rear window and a small "tail" of the trunk.

The strict front part of the car is made in the corporate direction of the brand with a predatory cut of optics, a two-section radiator grille and a powerful bumper. The stern looks no less stylish, placing beautiful lights with LED sections and a relief bumper into which two hexagonal pipes of the exhaust system are implanted.

Pseudo-sport performance is easy to distinguish from other configurations due to the black radiator grille and Chevrolet emblems, a small spoiler on the trunk lid, reshaped exhaust pipes, original 18-inch wheels and RS nameplates.

The length of the car is 4922 mm, of which 2829 mm falls on the wheelbase (an increase compared to its predecessor - 58 mm and 91 mm, respectively), width - 1854 mm, height - 1463 mm. The ground clearance of the four-door is 155 mm, and its “traveling” weight varies from 1400 to 1568 kg (depending on the modification).

The ninth-generation Malibu is no less impressively designed inside: a branded multifunctional steering wheel, a modern instrument panel with a color display of the on-board computer and an interesting front panel architecture with an ergonomic console in the center. The latter is crowned by an 8-inch monitor of the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 multimedia complex, below which the original microclimate control unit in the cabin is located.

The decoration of the car implies the presence of high-quality finishing materials, in particular soft plastics, metal inserts and genuine leather.

As for the “sporty” (namely in quotation marks) version of the three-volume, it can additionally boast of black fabric in the seat trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, as well as “RS” logos.

The front of the “Malibu” has comfortable-looking seats with sufficiently developed lateral support, and the rear sofa can easily accommodate three passengers – the benefit of space in the legs and in width is more than enough. But the drop-down roof will obviously put pressure on the tops of too tall passengers.

In normal condition, the trunk of a four-door is able to “absorb” up to 447 liters of luggage. The second row of seats folds in a pair of sections, freeing up an opening for transporting long loads. A recess under the raised floor of the machine contains a spare wheel and tools.

For the 9th generation Chevrolet Malibu, two Ecotec petrol fours with turbocharging and direct injection are available:

• The basic versions of the car are equipped with a 1.5-liter engine with a start-stop system that generates 160 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 2000-4000 rpm and is combined with a continuously variable variator (before the modernization of 2018 - from 6 - high-speed "automatic").

Its total potential is 182 horsepower. On pure electric traction, the “hybrid Malibu” is able to travel 70-80 km, accelerating to a maximum of 88 km / h.

The car rushes to conquer the second “hundred” after 6.7-8.6 seconds, and conquers 215-250 km / h as much as possible.

Gasoline modifications "digest" 7.6-8.7 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers in a combined cycle, while the hybrid version "digests" no more than 5 liters.

The 9th generation Chevrolet Malibu tricycle is based on the new E2XX front-wheel drive platform, which implies a transverse-based power plant and extensive use of high-strength steel in the structure. “In a circle” the sedan is equipped with independent suspensions - McPherson struts on the front and a multi-link arrangement on the rear axle (in both cases - with passive shock absorbers and transverse stabilizers).
