Cars manufactured in the Russian Federation are equipped with a computer. The first on-board computer appeared on the VAZ-2114. In simple terms, the on-board computer can be considered a kind of electronic reference book on the state of the car. It is necessary for the driver in order to understand the condition of his car, as well as what malfunctions have appeared in it.

The first on-board computers on domestic cars performed the following functions:

  1. Control of the amount of fuel poured into the tank.
  2. Approximate calculation of the distance that can be driven on the remaining fuel in the tank.
  3. Monitoring the temperature of the coolant in the engine, as well as preventing its overheating.

The modern on-board computer on the VAZ-2115 is designed for:

  • transfer of information about indicators "online";
  • displaying information on the information panel;
  • reflection of route parameters, such as current fuel consumption, travel time, number of kilometers covered, etc.;
  • diagnostics of the state of the motor with the subsequent display of errors on the screen of the on-board computer.

Among other things, depending on the configuration of the car, the following data can be sent to its on-board computer:

  • information about the time of the next maintenance of the car;
  • information about the need for adjustments to certain functions of the vehicle;
  • warning about the need to renew the insurance policy;
  • information from the organizer;
  • parameters at which the fan in the cooling system will automatically turn on.

The principle of operation of the on-board computer

Cars such as the VAZ-2109 were equipped with devices that acted as routers. Recall that these were carbureted cars. But the VAZ-2114 and 2115 began to be equipped with injection power plants, which required the use of devices of a completely different type.

Therefore, the main functions of the on-board computer on these vehicles are diagnostics, as well as managing the operation of almost all vehicle systems.

The principle of operation of the on-board computer on the VAZ-2115 is as follows:

  • acceptance with the help of the control unit of signals, their subsequent processing and the issuance of the necessary information on the computer display;
  • the possibility of making some adjustments;
  • processing signals received from systems that are not controlled by the controller. If an abnormal situation occurs in the machine, a sound signal will be given to the on-board computer, and information about the error will appear on its screen.

Brief operating instructions for the on-board computer

By the way, it often happens that the on-board computer gives out a danger signal for absolutely no reason. The reason for this may be the on-board computer processor or some kind of sensor that is not working correctly. Remember, no one is immune from electronic errors. Nevertheless, in the vast majority of cases, the VAZ-2115 on-board computer works quite correctly.

We present to your attention the most common error codes with their decoding:

  • 2 - the voltage of the on-board network is exceeded;
  • 3 - the fuel level sensor does not work correctly;
  • 4 - the sensor responsible for the temperature regime of the motor is faulty;
  • 5 - outside air temperature sensor transmits warning signals;
  • 6 - motor overheating;
  • 7 - very low pressure is observed in the car's lubrication system;
  • 8 - some problems were found in the braking system;
  • 9 - low battery charge.

If the numbers 4, 6 or 8 appear on the car's on-board computer while driving, stop immediately, fix the problem, and only then continue driving. But after that, you will need to reboot the processor. The error can be reset by simply holding down the daily mileage key for a few seconds.

What to do if the on-board computer stops working on the VAZ-2115

Sometimes it also happens that when the car is in full working order, the on-board computer completely refuses to work. How to proceed in such a case?

Of course, you can try to fix the problem yourself. But still, it is much better if a real specialist does this. It is he who will be able to reliably determine the cause of the malfunction of the device.

But before you go to the service center, the first thing to do is to check the F3 fuse, which could simply blow. It is installed in the power circuit of the VAZ-2115 processor. If, after replacing the fuse, the on-board computer continues to show no signs of life, you can also check the connectors for connecting to it. Again, if you are not an electrician, and indeed do not really understand electronics, this task should be entrusted to a professional.

Remember, any malfunction that the on-board computer shows can be fixed, as well as a breakdown of the on-board computer itself. But, as they say, it is better to prevent a problem than to solve it later. Therefore, each car should be kept in good condition, undergo a technical inspection on time and change spare parts that have failed. Among other things, it is better not to allow parts to break at all, but to replace them as they wear out. Only in this case, driving a car will be safe from a technical point of view, and during the trip there will be no emergency situations associated with improper operation of the car.

The serviceability of your car is a guarantee of the safety of both the driver and passengers.

Its cost about 2500 rubles . Installation is simple, you just need to connect to the K-line in the diagnostic connector and connect the power wires.

There are such useful functions as blowing candles and so on. On our own, we can only recommend it among a large number of models on the market.

The dashboard of the VAZ-2115 has a predetermined place for the subsequent installation of the on-board computer. In this case, if you need to put a control device in the car, then there is no need to change the design of the torpedo, but it is enough to use the standard socket.

The on-board computer provides the driver with comprehensive information about the following indicators:

  1. Vehicle movement mode.
  2. Gasoline consumption.
  3. The state of the electrical network of the car and so on.

In addition to information capabilities, such a device is capable of diagnosing the state of the internal combustion engine control system. Separate varieties of bortoviks can be put on cars with carburetors. However, for everything to work, an additional installation of a number of sensors will be required.

In the modification of the VAZ-2113, a computer is installed that interacts with the controller of the internal combustion engine control system. Its task is to process all incoming information and display the main indicators on the screen in an understandable form.

Automotive stores today sell a wide variety of such devices, which differ in their functionality and location in the car.

All functions of the device in question are divided into two parts:

  1. Informational.
  2. Diagnostic.

Seven buttons on the device panel are used to switch on the required operating mode:

  1. Pressing this button tells the computer that the trip has begun. The same element resets the accumulated information in memory.
  2. + and – are designed to adjust the values of various characteristics when the device is in the setup mode, as well as to study information about the state of specific vehicle components.
  3. In addition to displaying functions, the on-board computer can give sound signals when the actual values of the parameters go beyond the maximum allowable limits. It's kind of an alarm.

These are not all the functions of the device in question, but only the main features. Next, we will look at the process of installing a computer in a car.

General principles for connecting a computer

If the computer comes with an overboard temperature sensor, you won’t need it, since it comes from the factory on the VAZ-2115. The complete meter can be used inside the cabin to know the temperature in the car itself.

Step-by-step installation of a computer on a VAZ-2115

The device will read information from the engine ECU.

  1. Initially, de-energize the car's on-board network - remove the terminals from the battery.
  2. The car already has a place for mounting the BC. All the necessary wiring has already been brought to this place.
  3. After removing the plug, you will see a wiring harness and a plug - plug everything into the appropriate sockets on the computer and secure the panel.
  4. This completes the connection process.

What capabilities should the on-board computer have

In the following list, we present the most important features that every bookmaker should have:

  1. Remaining fuel in the tank.
  2. Battery voltage.
  3. Time.
  4. antifreeze temperature.
  5. Temperature outside.

Additionally, the following options are available:

  1. Average fuel consumption per 100 kilometers.
  2. Engine oil quality.
  3. Worn out spark plugs.

Diagnostic computer Multitronics X140, in addition to the above features, has voice guidance. This function warns the driver in time about various changes in the car. For example, when running out of fuel, the system instantly alerts you if there is less than 5 liters of gasoline left in the tank. In cold weather, the computer reminds you that ice is possible on the road.

According to the reviews of experienced drivers, some people are very annoyed by the backlight of the display when traveling in the evening / at night. But after some time of use, everyone gets used to this device, and driving without it becomes not so convenient.

Diagnostic capabilities of Multitronics x140:

  1. Gasoline consumption while driving and parking.
  2. antifreeze temperature. This indicator allows you to monitor the correct operation of the temperature sensor. It also determines the process of warming up the internal combustion engine.
  3. The voltage of the electrical network of the car in volts. Thanks to this parameter, it is possible to track various malfunctions of the generator, belt slippage and other breakdowns in the on-board system in time.
  4. The tachometer displays the crankshaft speed when the engine is idling. If the deviations are significant, this indicates that there are malfunctions in the vehicle's fuel system.
  5. Throttle position. According to this characteristic, it is possible to monitor the health of the sensor (TPPS). In addition, the driver knows about the depth of travel of the gas pedal. When the engine is off, but the ignition is on, when you press the pedal, the indicators should change smoothly from 0 to 100 percent.
  6. Speed. Duplicates a traditional speedometer, but here the readings are more accurate.
  7. Injection system malfunctions.

Thus, the on-board computer in question receives all the diagnostic codes for breakdowns and interprets them on its display in a form understandable to the driver. BC allows you to reset the accumulated information.

Alarm signal - practical or not

Emergency notification in modern computers for cars play an important role. In particular, the driver can be promptly notified of the following:

  1. Motor overheating when the temperature exceeds 115 degrees.
  2. Changes in the electrical network of the car. The signal appears when the voltage drops or exceeds the allowable limits.
  3. Speeding over a pre-set threshold.

Also, on-board computers inform the driver about the need for maintenance. In the process of setting up the computer, indicators are indicated at which it is necessary to change the oil, air filter, and so on.

Installing the on-board computer - Sigma format

Installation of the device in question on the VAZ-2115 is also quite simple:

  1. Disconnect the terminals from the battery.
  2. Remove the landing plug.
  3. Connect the “M” terminal of the diagnostic connector and the backup output of the computer connector with the “K-line” wire.
  4. Next, connect the BC pads to the regular trip computer connector.
  5. Connect ground to battery.
  6. Connect the temperature sensor.

To check the correctness of the installation, when the ignition is turned on, the flow parameters will be displayed on the BC display. If not, make sure you have an immobilizer. In its absence, you need to make a jumper between terminals 9 and 18 of the connector.

Summing up the article, we note that the on-board computer on the VAZ-2115 is an excellent assistant that gives the driver a large amount of information about the state of the main components of the car. Regular indicator panels, unfortunately, cannot boast of similar functionality. In this case, additional equipment helps a lot.

If you bought an on-board computer, but have never had experience with car electrics, then it is better to entrust the installation and configuration of the BC to professionals - this will save you time and money.

Take into account the fact that each manufacturer of a quality device completes the product with all the necessary documentation, both for installation and configuration. In the process of performing work, it is recommended that you first of all look at the instructions. The article provides only general recommendations and a brief overview of the installation of two BCs on the VAZ-2115.

Whatever brand you sit behind the wheel, looking around and exhaling after the first “wow” or “well, that ...”, you would surely find what can be improved in the car. There is no limit to perfection! Therefore, even premium-class cars are often given for an upgrade (take at least the “clientele” of the AMG tuning studio). With vehicles that roll off the assembly line at the factories of their native country, everything is generally obvious. They seem to be created for a caring owner who will finally bring them to mind. The list of necessary improvements, frankly, is not small. On-board computer for vaz should be one of the first items on this checklist. And now we will explain why.

The boarder will allow you to:

  • 1. Fully control all types of fuel consumption. The device considers the consumption instantaneous, total, per trip or for a certain period of time. Will give an accurate forecast of the available mileage on the balance. And not only for gasoline, but also for gas, if you decide to install LPG.
  • 2. Conduct instant diagnostics vehicle electrical systems. It not only identifies the problem by indicating the error code, but also issues its decryption. This means that you can safely decide whether it is worth just resetting the error so that CHECK goes out, or is it still time to go to the technical station (by the way, thanks to the BC, you will save a lot on the service station diagnostics).
  • 3. Do not miss a scheduled inspection, replacement, oil, filters, timing belt and other things that require rare, but regular, timely attention.
  • 4. Keep a trip log.
  • 5. Connect parking sensors and configure them according to individual parameters.

The list of functions (and there may be more than a hundred of them) depends on the manufacturer and type of BC. For example, computers staff on vaz have only basic functionality, its models look modest, but they also cost almost half as much as fancy analogues. At Multitronics, in addition to similar to the US compact devices with LCD displays (the US generally have segmental ones, for three characters), there are models with RGB screens and even full-color TFT. The cooler the monitor, the more effective the device looks in your salon, of course, the more and more informative the parameters that can be displayed on it.

Devices differ in the way they are installed. Some are mounted instead stub buttons, others in free 1-din-seat. There are also devices created for a specific VAZ model, and universal ones that can be rearranged to another car if you want to change the car. For example, Multitronics CL-550.

The choice of on-board vehicles is really large, so you will surely be able to choose from us the best trip computer that suits your requirements in terms of functionality and budget. For example, if you are looking for computer multitroniks for frets, then we can offer you two dozen different options. If it is difficult for you to decide on your own, then our specialists will always help you. They will also advise you on the installation and configuration of the device.
