Is it worth it to take the second generation Kia Rio. Kia Rio in the secondary market: is it worth buying? Should I buy a used Kia Rio?

21.08.2023

Korean companies are increasingly winning over the car market from competitors. One of the popular budget cars is KIA Rio. In 2017 alone, almost 100,000 cars were sold in Russia. The model has good equipment and modern appearance at a very affordable price.

What is the secret of such popularity? Are there any flaws in the car? Let's figure it out!

From the history

Rio began its history in 2000. It was then that the first generation was released. The car did not make a big splash, becoming the usual utilitarian option in the budget price category.

In 2005, the second generation came out. German designers have already worked on the model, and the appearance turned out to be more aggressive and interesting. Petrol versions of 1.4, 1.6 liters and even diesel 1.5 liters were available. It turned out to be an unpretentious budget car that meets the requirements of buyers.

Rio, built on the basis of Hyundai Solaris, gained real popularity. It was already the third generation, launched in 2011.

In 2017, the fourth generation of the popular sedan was launched. But we will dwell in more detail on the third version - the most famous on the secondary market.

Initial characteristics

The model has a bright "youthful" appearance. The car is equipped with two gasoline engines:

 • 1.4 l 107 hp Available boxes 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic transmission;
 • 1.6 l 123 hp With boxes 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

The first one consumes 7-8 liters per hundred in urban mode, depending on the type of gearbox. A more powerful version - about 10 liters of gasoline.

The bodywork is available in both sedan and wagon versions. But sedans are more popular. MacPherson front suspension is the most common and simple design. Behind - the usual "beam". Therefore, you should not expect excellent handling and comfort from driving over bumps from the model.

Complete set

"Rio" is made in four main versions: Comfort, Luxe, Premium, Prestige.

There is nothing interesting in the most basic car. No air conditioning, no full power accessories. Only the front power windows work with the button. But there are still two airbags: the driver and the front passenger. The engine is possible only 1.4 l. Everything has been done to maximize the availability of cars for buyers.

In higher trim levels, a simple utility car has the following options:

 • Airbags for the driver, front passenger, window blinds and side airbags;
 • Leather steering wheel with multimedia controls and heating;
 • Heated front seats, windshield and washer nozzles;
 • Climate control;
 • Multimedia with USB;
 • ESC system is added to ABS;
 • Keyless entry;
 • Rear parking sensors.

That's all the amenities. There is not even such a common option as a leather interior. But the quality of the fabric is different from the standard. An easy-to-clean fabric is used on both the seats and door interiors.

Advantages and disadvantages

To get a budget car, manufacturers reduce the cost of the quality of parts and materials. This inevitably leads to some customer dissatisfaction, especially if the model turned out to be technically unsuccessful. Let's sort it out in order.

 • Small fuel consumption. For 1.4 liters, only 8 liters in the city, for 1.6 liters - 10 liters;
 • Strong, durable and cheap to repair suspension. Stabilizer rack - 390 rubles. Ball bearings - 330 rubles each. apiece, and the lower front arm - 2500 rubles;
 • Reliable simple automatic transmission. In addition to changing the oil, it does not require frequent repairs;
 • Reliability of components and assemblies. The car, as a rule, does not need to be replaced or repaired;
 • Large trunk (500 l);
 • Spacious salon. The front driver and passenger do not interfere with each other with their elbows, and the rear can accommodate three passengers of average build.

Car owners treat this car condescendingly. Simple, reliable - for such a budget price, they are ready to forgive her for some flaws that must inevitably be in such a price segment.

 • Rigid suspension. Roughnesses of the road are poorly compensated, “shaking” occurs;
 • The 1.4 liter engine is rather weak, especially for the track due to the short fifth gear of the manual transmission. It is sometimes dangerous to overtake;
 • Bad soundproofing. At high speed on the highway, you can’t talk calmly with your interlocutor;
 • "Skin" on the steering wheel and gearbox of poor quality - quickly climb around;
 • Small ground clearance 16 cm;
 • Poor quality interior plastic. It is hard and easily scratched;
 • The oven fan is noisy at high speeds.

With such a list, it is quite possible to “live” calmly and enjoy the purchased car. There is nothing critical - the main dissatisfaction consists of quite expected things. By eliminating them, the manufacturer would inevitably increase the starting price of the model.

According to the famous Euro NCAP test, KIA Rio received the maximum 5 out of 5 stars, which is rare in this price segment.

Price

In the secondary market, a relatively fresh, practical foreign car manufactured in 2013-2014 can be purchased for 500-550 thousand rubles. It will certainly be an average equipment with an "automatic". But, having paid 20-30 thousand, you can already claim an increased level of comfort of the Prestige configuration.

Opinions about the car

For greater objectivity, we took first-hand comments. For people who currently own Rio and have probably already encountered some difficulties.

Sergey. Moscow.KIA Rio2012 onwards, 1.6 l, automatic transmission:

“The car is good for everyone. The rear row of seats is conveniently disassembled - increasing the space for carrying cargo. Economical in terms of fuel consumption. Didn't find any cons. Nothing has changed from serious units, only consumables, filters, pads and fluids.

Evgenia. Ekaterinburg.KIA Rio2015 onwards, 1.4 l, automatic transmission:

“We took a new one from the salon. My husband and I have already covered 80,000 kilometers. The machine is very comfortable, especially for the money. We are not even going to sell. Of the breakdowns, I do not remember that there were any serious ones with big expenses. The most expensive thing, probably, was the purchase of winter tires. The rest is repaired every 5-6 months in the service and that's it.

Gennady. Muravlenko. KIA Rio 2011, 1.6 l, manual transmission:

“I bought a specially unpretentious frost car for a taxi. It happens in the north up to -45 degrees. The total mileage is 250 thousand km. Of these, mine ran somewhere around 180 in 3 years. Once in the winter it didn’t start, it turns and doesn’t catch. The reason has not been found. I do it myself in the garage, so it generally costs a penny. Of the biggest breakdowns, I change the stove motor every year. In winter, the stove “turns” from morning to night at high speeds. But the car is still warm.

As we can see, the owners are satisfied with their cars, the complaints concern only the operation of the stove by a driver from a city with a very cold climate.

Problems when buying KIA Rio

We analyzed Autocode reports to find out about common problems. Over the past month, 32,771 cars of this model have been checked through the service.

According to the result of the analysis, cars with accidents are most often found. In second place in popularity are unpaid fines. But the most serious problems, as a rule, are associated with the use of a car as a taxi. Here you can meet both high mileage and accidents due to the very frequent use of the car. Bonds are not excluded.

Almost a complete set of troubles that you can expect when buying a car. Judge for yourself:

The car had an accident in 2017. Since September 2018, traffic police restrictions apply to cars. And also this copy was operated as a taxi. This option is not something that would not be worth buying - it is impossible to buy due to the restrictions imposed.

Let's sum up the analysis of the Autocode database. Of the 35 reports viewed:

 • 16 cars with accidents;
 • 4 with unpaid fines;
 • 2 worked in a taxi;
 • 2 had problems with mismatched runs (twisted);
 • 1 car pledged (leasing).

25 out of 35 KIA Rio models have some disadvantages. This is more than 70% of those tested. So, when buying on the secondary market, you have a great chance of getting into such a car.

If you are aiming to buy a KIA Rio, be sure to keep in mind that the car may be damaged. Sellers often do not like to talk about this. In order not to buy a "pig in a poke" - check the car before buying. Through the Autocode service, you can get a report on only one license plate. You can see it in the ad or ask the buyer. And then, after studying the report, it’s up to you to decide whether it’s worth spending time examining a particular instance.

KIA Rio turned out to be very successful both from the technical side and from the pricing policy. This is not a business class, so you should not expect anything supernatural from it. However, he fulfills his cost in full. No wonder it is used in taxis. But, as we can see from the analysis, used cars, to one degree or another, have their own shortcomings, which are better to identify before buying, and not during operation.

What do you think of KIA Rio? Leave your comments after the article.

Sales of a new generation of KIA Rio began in Russia. The car received a new design and a number of useful options. But what do Kazan people think of him?

To find out, we went to one of the car dealerships selling KIA models. There we immediately met with Alexei (name changed) - the owner of Rio 2016 model year. Further, the story is told from his perspective.

I don't know why the Koreans decided to change the interior design so much. Yes, outwardly the machine has become brighter and more modern, but inside everything has become cheaper. KIA Rio is relatively small, so reducing the height of the torpedo only increased this feeling.

But most of all I did not like the design of the air conditioner in inexpensive trim levels. The levers got a rough move- you literally feel with your hand how the damper moves when you switch the blower modes. This is simply not the case in my car!

New Rio on top, old Rio on the bottom

In general, such a design reminded LADA models - as if they were hewn with an ax. Terrible decision in my opinion.

What do you think of the new multimedia steering wheel? Yes, it perfectly “lies” in the hand, has skin that is pleasant to the touch, but Who came up with these inconvenient buttons?! They are completely uncomfortable to use. Especially when you switch tracks and turn up the music volume.

The rest of the salon left only pleasant impressions. I liked the dashboard, the graphics on the more expensive trim levels, and the new multimedia system with Android Car support. And here the armrest for me personally is again completely useless in the version with a gun.

How does the new KIA Rio drive?

Yes, all the same. The manager treated that serious work had been done to modernize the chassis, etc., but in fact I could not feel any significant changes. And here the steering wheel has become a bit more informative. It’s a pity that it didn’t work out on the track to check the behavior of the car at speed - the motor drags the KIA Rio quite dynamically.

I don't know about the quality, but the first owners of the new KIA Rio were faced with a marriage of moldings. A trifle, but the fact remains. And yes, the noise here is still the same - the sound in the area of wheel arches and the noise from cars passing by are clearly audible - the budget segment, after all.

In general, the car turned out to be good and will definitely be the best-selling car in its class, but personally I don’t really want to change my car to this one. I’d rather wait until the first owners of the new Rio pass the first two MOTs and find new sores.

There are a lot of offers. On one of the popular sites on the third generation Rio (2012-2017), there are about five thousand ads. We propose to immediately discard the most elderly cars. According to our observations, 4-5 years is the age by which the components and mechanisms of a Korean car reach significant wear. In addition, for the restyling of 2015, the transmission and chassis of the model were seriously upgraded. Now about everything in order.

Body: where it is thin, it breaks there

There are no complaints about the quality of the St. Petersburg assembly. Screwed Rio is fine, and its body iron is not prone to rust for no reason. However, scratching a thin layer of varnish and paint to metal or catching a chip is a trifling matter. And untreated or not repaired in time, the wounds may soon bloom. In this sense, special attention to the hood, fenders, sills and windshield frame.

It is also worth carefully inspecting the bumpers for cracks and gaps at the joints with other parts. Fragile plastic and fasteners are easily damaged even with minor contacts, especially at low temperatures.

The plastic of the front panel of the cabin, on the contrary, is afraid of severe overheating. Due to the “sunstroke”, cracks appear in the area of ventilation deflectors and the climate control unit. Glossy black decorative overlays and leather-wrapped steering wheel retain their original appearance only among note-takers. In the fifth or sixth year, the upholstery of the seats may crack at the seams, and even earlier under a heavy driver.

Engines: attention to the catalyst

Compared to European turbo engines, the Korean “fours” G4FA (1.4 l, 107 hp) and G4FC (1.6 l, 123 hp) are less high-torque and economical, but definitely more reliable. However, they do not promise a completely cloudless life. The average resource of non-repairable cylinder blocks is 250-300 thousand kilometers. But in the middle of this path, you will probably have to change the stretched timing chain, and after every hundred thousand - adjust the thermal clearances of the valves, replace the ignition coils and clean the throttle assembly from deposits.

A very alarming sign - Check Engine. Catalysts of both engines, painfully reacting to low-quality fuel and failures in the ignition system, and subject to all precautions, rarely live more than 130 thousand. The melted honeycombs crumble, and the hard crumb, having got into the cylinders, leads to the rapid wear of the block. The cost of the latter is about 200,000 rubles. The catalyst itself with an exhaust manifold will cost about 60 thousand. Therefore, it is not uncommon for owners to remove a “sick” converter and install a so-called “trick” into the collector. It turns out an order of magnitude cheaper, but such an approach, of course, cannot be called proper treatment.

Transmission: not for everyone

Depending on the year and engine, one of two automatic transmissions was installed on the Rio. For the first few years, both engines were paired with the A4CF1 4-speed automatic transmission. The unit is not the most economical and nimble, but it is distinguished by enviable vitality. Yes, he had failures of valve bodies during runs over 100 thousand kilometers, but not indiscriminately. In general, if you change the transmission oil every 70-80 thousand kilometers, this machine is enough for the life of the motor.

In June 2014, a 6-speed gearbox was sent to a pair of 123-horsepower "four". The replacement turned out to be tricky. With runs over 150 thousand, there is a high probability of oil seal leakage and failure of the torque converter lockup clutch. In addition, due to the increased sensitivity of the automatic transmission to overheating, it is advisable to check the condition of the transmission fluid at least once a year and change it every 50-60 thousand.

Simultaneously with the new machine gun, a more powerful engine also got a 6-speed "mechanics". You can't say a bad word about her. The margin of safety of the "five-step" is much less. The manual gearbox more or less copes with the moment of the 1.4 liter engine, but on cars with a 1.6 liter engine, a crunch and problems with gear shifting come out already at 130-150 thousand.

Chassis and steering: the fight for damage

The car did not escape the so-called childhood diseases. Knocking steering racks at low mileage and dying front hub bearings were common problems with versions of the first years of production. Since 2013, Rio began to install modified bearings with better protection against dirt, by 2014 engineers got rid of congenital ailments of the rail, and in 2015 the car got more reliable stabilizer struts.

As a result of therapy, running gear requires almost no attention in the early stages. We do not take pads and brake discs into account - these are consumables. As for shock absorbers, ball joints, front levers, stabilizer bushings - they all go plus or minus 100 thousand, and the elements of the rear beam can stretch twice as much.

Our verdict:

White cars in the minimum configuration with a 1.4 engine are a risky asset. It is highly likely that they used to serve in taxis and corporate parks. The new 6-speed manual is more economical and reliable than the "five-speed". Running post-restyling versions are much more durable. However, the new machine is more capricious than the 4-band box.

Since we need a third-generation car, the year of production of the car will be no later than 2015. And due to the fact that we pretend to be very rich people, we will not look at the cars of the first years of production (2011 and 2012). I note that we do this consciously: the earliest cars had some shortcomings, which they subsequently tried to get rid of. For example, consider one typical problem with early automobiles: a creaking steering shaft with a fixed-type universal joint. At first it was changed under warranty, then the hinge was generally replaced with a sliding one. Yes, and some elements of the interior decoration of early Rio do not cause delight, which is why now many of their salons resemble taxi salons.

We will not be picky about motors. There are only two of them, and both of them are more like plans for Friday night than something serious from the world of internal combustion. A 1.4-liter G4FA and a kind of “big” 1.6-liter G4FD will suit us. Both of them are not bad, and what you need to look at in them - you will see below.

We can quite afford a car with automatic transmission, especially since neither the old four-speed A4AF3 nor the newer “six-speed” A6GF1 raise questions in the first one and a half hundred thousand kilometers of run. Although, of course, the important thing here is how they were operated and maintained, especially the second box, which is more demanding on the purity of the oil.

We are looking for cars as usual - on classifieds sites. There are many such cars, so there will be no problems.

Problems will start later, when it will be necessary to make a compromise: there are still no ideal cars, so you will have to come to terms with something. For example, here is the first car. At first, due to an atypically high mileage (yes, thanks to the Russian ingenuity sung by the people, we are all used to the fact that from 5 years to 20 mileage in ads around and about 100 thousand kilometers) I didn’t want to watch it, but then everything - did look. Oddly enough, it turned out to be a very good option, which once again confirms the thesis that against the background of optimized mileage and grandmother's tales from outbids, you can sometimes find an honest car for "little" money.

But cheap!

The most attractive thing about this car is its price. It costs only 405 thousand, so almost a hundred thousand can be pawned to bring it to life after purchase (if there is such a desire). True, he has the simplest equipment, a manual gearbox and a 1.4-liter engine. Yes, and the mileage is large - 186 thousand kilometers. Let's see if there is any point in such a purchase.

Unfortunately, the Kia paintwork is far from the manufacturer's strongest point. But in our particular case, at least it pleases that the painting is factory. In general, in Rio, the layer thickness should not exceed 130 microns, although sometimes there are cars with a double factory color (in this case, there will be almost a double layer of paintwork on all body parts and doorways) or with individual parts repainted at the dealer. The latter is a reason to check the car for participation in an accident. Stories with repainting of parts due to damage during transportation, although they occur, are more likely an accident than common practice. Our thickness is approximately the same everywhere, from 115 to 130 microns, so there is no reason for nit-picking. However, there is a small chip on the front fender. It will need to be removed immediately: the chips on the “Koreans” rust quickly. But in general, all paintwork defects are minor and are obtained exclusively during operation.

But let's open the doors and see the salon.

Here you can see the mileage in all its glory. Not too high-quality plastic (more precisely, just bad plastic) scratches very easily, and on our car it already looks very scary in places. Door handles and plastic front panel near the glove box look creepy. But what to demand from a budget car with a mileage of under 200 thousand? The steering wheel stands out against the general background. Perhaps it was altered under warranty - it peeled off quickly, and Kia's warranty engineers did not refuse to fix the defect.

The seats don't look very fresh either. They not only have worn skin, but also noticeable deformation. In general, the Kia Rio salon will not let you hide the real mileage. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Now we open the hood. There are no complaints here. The engine compartment is clean and gives the impression that the car was looked after better than the beloved girl in the candy-bouquet period of the relationship. Well, or washed before our arrival.

Yes, and the motor sounds good, no criminal sounds could be achieved from it. But this is what is visible to the naked eye. If we really wanted to buy this car, we would arm the eye with an endoscope. The fact is that Koreans are very fond of making weak catalysts, which already begin to crumble well by such a run. Ceramic crumb enters the intake and quickly eats up the piston group. So inspecting the cylinder walls on a Kia with mileage would not be superfluous at all. However, on this run, one can already be afraid of coked rings, although compared to the repair of a cylinder block, this is not such a global problem.

Well, we must not forget that at a high mileage (it is impossible to say which one, but approximately, say, from 300 thousand), one can expect a real “capital”, especially if the catalyst was not changed in time or the chain was not noticed. And the overhaul of the engine with an aluminum block is a rather expensive procedure, especially by the standards of budget cars. It's a pity: the rest of the car turned out to be very good and quite adequate in value. Well, let's try to look for something newer: money is not a problem, there are 500 thousand.

Minotaur Labyrinth

Let's put aside the typical Russian craving for sedans and look at a car in a hatchback body. Yes, it is not as prestigious as a sedan (no one will doubt that the Rio sedan is prestigious), but it is practical. In addition, they were not seen in a taxi. True, sometimes we come across in carsharing ... But the car suits us: 2014, it costs only 470 thousand. The mileage, however, is also rather big - 90 thousand, but still it is two times less than the previous version.

Even from a distance it is clear that something is wrong with the car. In general, I would advise not to be afraid of your feelings: if it seems that the car is crooked, it probably is. We cannot assess the correctness of the body geometry by eye, but we can notice some differences in gaps, painting and some other details on a subconscious level. I do not insist on the truth of these words, but I advise you to listen to them.

So, before us is a black handsome man. True, it's kind of uneven. Side lighting allows you to take a good look at the shagreen. On the front left fender, it is different from the shagreen on the driver's door. Just in case, check with a thickness gauge. Here it is already more than 400 microns, and on the right front wing the thickness of the paintwork reaches 544 microns. There's clearly a bug in here as well. Given that the front bumper is uneven, and all the gaps between it and the wings are crooked, it can be assumed that the youth of this car was hard. But it is hardly worth talking about a strong frontal impact here: the headlights are native, no one has changed the radiators. Although the troubles don't end there.

We notice that the expansion tank is empty. This is definitely bad: maybe the engine has overheated, or maybe the antifreeze is leaving somewhere. Well, if it flows to the ground, and not into oil. However, if he went into the oil, we would have noticed it on the oil filler cap.

The oil level in the power steering reservoir is also at a minimum. And this is also not entirely correct.

And we suddenly find one more small surprise in ... wiring. One more (non-standard) power cable departs from the battery terminal in an unknown direction.

Where could he go? I think the answer is obvious: there should be a subwoofer. Therefore, we open the trunk, raise the flooring and see a bunch of other wires (the "sub" from here, the owner apparently dragged).

What's bad about it? To be honest, there are few truly responsible owners among those who put such music (even if it is high-quality) in a car. Yes, and the level of liquids just screams about it. “Tynts-tynts” in the trunk is, of course, cool, but a normal level of antifreeze is much more important (although the minimum standing on the mark is also far from a sentence). Another significant disadvantage is the increased load on the generator. And, finally, not all music installers (as well as alarms) are able to do this well. Often, after their intervention, the electrical circuit of the car turns into a labyrinth of the Minotaur, through which, in the event of a breakdown, a sad and angry electrician will wander.

And then they didn’t even bother to put the rubber wiring seal from the engine compartment in place.

In addition, there are “uncured” chips on the body, which are about to begin to rust, the back seat is burned with a cigarette, and everything that can be dirtied is dirtied. The broken windshield completes the picture.

In a word, this is definitely not our option.

Parking by ear

The most interesting car costs just our maximum amount - 500 thousand. What are they offering us?

Firstly, this car has a 1.6 liter engine. Secondly, automatic transmission (even if it is a four-speed, but quite reliable - Mitsubishi heritage). Well, and thirdly - a mileage of a little more than 30 thousand kilometers. Yes, yes, the car is 2013. Maybe the mileage is twisted? Let's look at the documents first. The owner of the car was one, and the service book is filled exemplary. Accurately every year she was driven to the dealer for maintenance, but the interval between maintenance in kilometers is more delightful: in the first year, only five thousand kilometers were driven by the car, and in some subsequent years they could not drive even these five. Looking ahead, I note that this run can only be confirmed by an absolutely exemplary interior: even the fabric of the seats and the steering wheel braid, which are prone to wear, look new. Luck? Almost.

The whole picture is spoiled by the poor quality of the paintwork, multiplied by the driving characteristics of the owner of the car. He obviously parked by ear: all body elements with traces of scuffs. Here, the doors were opened into cars standing nearby in the parking lot, and they ran into the curbs and parked in the snowdrifts until the bumpers crunched.

Maybe even the whole roof? But no ... Koreans say hello here: rust appeared on the roof on the upper edge of the windshield.

Unfortunately, this is the weak point of Rio, and even if you don’t drive on the highway and don’t “catch” chips from pebbles, the glass edge rusts quickly. They do not always look there, but in vain. Two small specks may be just the beginning of a major corrosion. But here at least there are no repainted elements, which could be pleasing if not for the number of traces of contacts on them. Maybe something would be better and painted.

We didn't look under the hood for a long time. There are no complaints about the operation of the motor, all fluids are level, and no traces of an accident could be found either. But there is a lot of dirt.

I don't even know if I can buy this car. Technically, he is most likely good (one can say for sure only after computer diagnostics and inspection on the lift), but the numerous injuries sustained through the fault of, apparently, a not very experienced driver, need to be treated somehow. And urgently. But there are so many of them that everything will have to be painted - well, or at least all four doors and front fenders (for example, scratches on a plastic body kit are trifles). It will also be necessary to remove rust on the edge of the windshield (which, by the way, will also have to be replaced due to a crack). The amount of investment will be significant, which will not please even with a small mileage.

You can, of course, bargain, but there is a lot of Rio on sale, so if the seller’s greed turns out to be stronger than the paintwork, it’s better to look for another car.

Combo from the dealer

We decided to look at another option from an authorized dealer who sells used cars. It cost 516 thousand rubles, but it was very curious what the officials would offer us. Moreover, we were already ready to go a little beyond the price range, but to find an uncompromising option.

According to the photo, a good option, mileage - 86 thousand kilometers, almost the maximum configuration. Let's go.

So what does the dealer offer us? And the dealer offers us to play the game "Guess what happened to the car." And we decide to accept the rules of the game. Moreover, everything is so obvious here that even a "teapot" can figure it out.

In short, even a self-respecting dealer will not buy this car. This is the case when the car does not seem crooked, but actually crooked. What is worth not closing the driver's door. Against this background, a large number of scratches, chips and multi-colored elements simply fade.

We open the hood and are not even surprised ... Here is a complete set that just screams about a head-on collision: a crumpled shock absorber cup, broken battery terminals, obscenely attached spar tip, smeared with sealant somehow at the seams. In theory, it should have been cut and replaced. But, apparently, they decided not to bother and just blinded from what was.

3 / 3

It looks like the impact was so strong that the engine shifted to the engine shield, which left marks.

And of course, looking into the salon, we saw a "shot" airbag. Thank you, we do not need such "good".

For the sake of interest, we decided to check the car on the bases, since the condition of the interior (in particular, the steering wheel was worn almost to holes) and the body transparently hinted at a very twisted mileage and, in general, the use of the car as a taxi. And here we are not mistaken. The car was indeed listed in a company that provided passenger transportation services. This is not surprising - these models, also in white, are often found in taxis. Only the prices for such cars in normal condition are on average 100 thousand cheaper.

Kia Rio third generation - the car is not capricious. But that doesn't mean she doesn't have any weaknesses. First of all, you probably need to look at the body (I think everyone has already understood this). But that's not all.

Don't forget about the engine either. When choosing a Kia (and Hyundai) with mileage, you need to at least get to the service and check the compression and timing drive. After 100 thousand kilometers, you can find cars with stretched chains, so checking the phases will not be superfluous. Especially if there are some more or less disturbing sounds when starting the engine.

If the mileage has exceeded the one hundred thousandth mark, then you need to check the condition of the catalyst, and at the same time - the lambda sensors and the entire output. True, not everyone can do it on their own. And here AUTOMAMA maybe, and for this we use the most modern tools that our partners have in specialized service stations. After our diagnostics, buyers may not be afraid of either the Minotaur's labyrinth, or the inexperienced owner who parks by ear, or the dealer's combo.

When developing a mass and affordable car for Russia, the Koreans, without further ado, took the fourth generation Hyundai Accent sedan as a basis. And to minimize costs, they organized the production of a car in a full cycle near St. Petersburg. Moreover, his twin brother - - came off the assembly line of the same plant six months later. Both cars are identical in technical terms, although the difference in design and interior design of the cars is significant. If Solaris looks calm and solid, then the look of Rio is more aggressive and expressive.

And Rio debuted as sedans. And six months later, 5-door hatchbacks appeared in the range of their modifications. Initially, they were equipped with 1.4 liter (107 hp) and 1.6 liter (123 hp) petrol engines, which were combined with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-speed "automatic". At the end of 2014, Hyundai underwent modernization, as a result of which, in addition to external changes, it received new 6-speed gearboxes: both manual and automatic. True, the latest units are offered only with a 1.6-liter engine.

Used and Rio must be met by clothes - carefully inspect the body for corrosion. And the older the copy, the more carefully.

Ulcers and age spots can quickly form on the body, since the paintwork is rather weak. And when chips and scratches appear, it is better to repair them immediately with a camouflage pencil or other body care products. Most of all goes to chrome parts, the coating from which sometimes peels off with a stocking. Often, owners complain about the thin metal of these machines. There is an opinion that unsuccessfully leaning on the hood or trunk lid, you can easily leave a dent on them.

Bumpers also do not differ in strength - over time, they sag under their own weight due to flimsy caps. Therefore, it is not surprising that on some instances the bumpers are fixed with self-tapping screws.

On Solaris and Rio, the windshield and side windows are not very strong. They literally reflect the entire process of operating the car in the form of cracks, scuffs and scratches. In frosts, the elements of the side mirrors burst (1900 rubles). Another generic sore is weak wheel studs, which sometimes break off when tightened with a pistol. Owners who know this usually screw them in manually.

Car electrics are pretty simple. The owners complained, perhaps, about the lack of air conditioning performance: windows fog up in rainy weather, and it is impossible to achieve favorable coolness in hot weather. The fuel level sensor is often confused in its readings.

Solaris and Rio were equipped with two petrol engines of 1.4 liters (107 hp) and 1.6 liters (123 hp). Moreover, our compatriots prefer a more powerful one - about 2/3 of all cars offered for sale fall on 1.6-liter modifications.

The all-aluminum powertrains of the Gamma series are equipped with a chain in the timing drive, which tends to stretch after 100,000 km. If the engine began to "stupid", increased fuel consumption, then it's time to change the chain.

Both engines work normally on both 95th and 92nd gasoline. However, it must be remembered that when using the AI-92, it increases significantly, especially in urban operating conditions. On a 1.4-liter engine, after 50,000-70,000 km, the converter may need to be replaced. Dealers do not always recognize this as a warranty case, although they are logically obliged, and repairs cost more than 60,000 rubles. But on the 1.6 liter engine, this has not yet happened. Servicemen also note that these units can leak oil through the rear oil seal (1300 rubles) of the crankshaft and antifreeze through the cylinder head gasket.

The valve cover is planted not on a gasket, but on a sealant, which, after five years of operation, dries out and the cover sweats. Periodically, it is necessary to clean (from 2,000 rubles) the radiator block from dirt and fluff, and every 40,000-60,000 km, flush the throttle valve block for 2,500 rubles.

The choice of used "Koreans" is huge. The five-speed manual gearbox of the M5CF1 series is not particularly durable.

After 100,000 km, second and third gears can be engaged with increasing effort. If you continue to drive like this, then soon the gear will turn on with a crunch. Therefore, it is not worth pulling with the repair - as soon as you feel something was wrong, rush to the service. Repair with the replacement of the gear, synchronizer clutch and blocking ring of the third stage will cost 15,000-20,000 rubles. But if the process is running, you will have to buy a new box. And this is completely different money.

"" The A4CF1 is durable, though archaic in design. If used correctly, it can outlive the engine. It is necessary to change the oil in the box after 60,000 km. Otherwise, problems with the valve body (28,000 rubles) and the pump are not ruled out. The clutch takes care of an average of 120,000 km and changes as a set - a basket, a release bearing and a driven disk for 9,500 rubles. In the bearings of the front hubs (3,600 rubles each) for 30,000 kilometers, a backlash appears, which is eliminated by tightening the drive shaft mounting nuts.

The rear suspension of the first cars was unfinished. Drivers complained about the "incontinence" of the high-speed straight and the instability of the car in corners with uneven asphalt, and with a full load, the suspension completely punched on potholes. The culprit was found to be weak springs and shock absorbers.
