The modified ZMZ-40524.10 engine was installed on the Gazelle and Fiat Ducato.

What kind of oil to fill in the ZMZ 405 engine

Some consider the fact of using a microprocessor to control the ignition timing as an advantage, others call it a disadvantage. The system works better and more efficiently, but it is impossible to repair this unit in the conditions of the track, when the car is stuck.

At the same time, the hydraulic compensation of the thermal gap in the valves led to a reduction in the cost of maintaining the Gazelle. So visiting a car service in order to adjust the valves, as it happened before, is no longer required.

This is a frankly good motor that is great for a Gazelle car. From its technical characteristics, we highlight the following:

  • the compression ratio is 9.4;

  1. Remove the negative terminal from the battery, place stops under the wheels, securely fix the machine if you are working with a jack. Personal safety should never be forgotten.
  2. Under the bottom of the car is the engine oil sump. A drain plug is provided on it, for the dismantling of which you will need a 24 wrench.
  3. Substitute an empty container under the drain hole, where the old used oil will be drained. About 6 liters should come out, so initially take a container of a suitable volume. On a warm engine, oil leaves the system in 5 to 7 minutes. If it is thicker, it is better to wait 10-15 minutes. When the oil has drained, screw the drain plug back on.   6. Take the new filter out of the box. Pour a small amount of grease into its housing. Also lubricate the sealing gasket of the filter device. The filter should be filled with oil to about 50% of its volume.
  7. The filter is twisted only by hand. Do not use a puller or other tools. Otherwise, there is a risk of damaging the device. Tighten until the filter gasket is in contact with the cylinder block. Then hand-tighten the element 3/4 turn. This is enough for the device to sit tightly in its place and not provoke an oil leak.
  8. When all the work under the car is completed, go to the engine compartment of your Gazelle 405. Unscrew the filler plug, insert a funnel into the hole and fill in the required amount of oil.
  9. Use a dipstick to check the level by waiting a few minutes after filling. Close the filler hole, replace the mudguard.

  1. It is only necessary to check the quantity at a warmed-up gearbox. To do this, it will be enough to drive 10-15 kilometers.
  2. The machine should be installed on a flyover or inspection hole, even a slight inclination in the horizontal plane is unacceptable.
  3. It is necessary to allow the grease to drain from the walls to the bottom of the crankcase. During this time, thoroughly wipe the filler cap, which is also a control one, with a rag.

It is unacceptable to operate a car with a low oil level in the Gazelle Next checkpoint and other models. Since insufficient volume can provoke air plugs, which will affect the amount of lubricant supplied to the gears and gearbox bearings.

  8. The cork is wiped and installed in place.

If there is no syringe at hand, then you can change the oil without it. In this case, new grease is poured through the hole for the gear lever. Dismantling it will not be difficult. To do this, the protection in the form of a cover is removed, and then the lever is turned out. The required volume of liquid must be poured into the formed crankcase hole, observing its appearance in the control hole.
