The electric door lock does not work. How to determine the cause of a malfunction of the central lock

The electric door lock does not work. How to determine the cause of a malfunction of the central lock

The central lock is a useful device that provides simple and quick unlocking and locking of car doors. Let's see for what reasons this system may not function correctly or not respond at all to the driver's commands, and we will describe measures aimed at eliminating such malfunctions.

1 Central locking - types of malfunctions

The central lock (CL) is considered an auxiliary mechanism. At the same time, it is a key element of the car safety system of our days. The locks we are interested in are divided into electric and vacuum (otherwise called mechanical). The first systems include various mechanisms with a motor or solenoids. The device of vacuum central locking is a little more complicated. They have special drives (activators), a control board, a compressor and tubes.

CZ fails for various reasons. Its malfunctions are usually divided into several main categories:

  • the device is unstable;
  • the lock partially or completely does not work.

If the central lock stops working, performs any actions with a delay, first of all we need to do equipment diagnostics. Testing the system allows you to find out the cause of its breakdown as competently and quickly as possible. Here it is important to know the following. The central lock must work with the ignition off and on, as well as with the engine running and stopped, provided that the power terminals of the vehicle's on-board network are connected to the battery.

2 Do-it-yourself system repair - the simplest cases

If it is impossible to open (close) the car door, on which, using the control panel (key fob), we try to perform these actions manually - with a button or a key. If everything worked out, the reason for the breakdown of the central lock, most likely, lies in the malfunctions of the control and electrical circuits (or the usual one). In some cases, the problem is solved simply by replacing the battery in the remote control.

When the lock malfunctions or does not function at all even with manual control, we determine the nature of the breakdown. The following phenomena indicate a complete failure of the system:

  • Electric central lock. When using the ignition key, the system emits barely audible clicks, and the buttons of the locking mechanisms do not change their position.
  • Mechanical lock. When manually operated, the compressor does not make any sounds.

What to do in such cases? First, we check the integrity of the fuses of the central locking electrical circuits. If necessary, replace burned-out elements with new ones. Perhaps this is where the system repair will end. It is more difficult when all fuses are working, and the manual control of the central lock does not work. In this situation, a breakdown can be caused by such reasons:

  1. There is no voltage at the input of the driver's door actuator.
  2. The limit switch does not work.

Both faults usually occur due to insufficient contact at the terminals of the supply cables or a break in the latter. The problem is solved as follows. We activate the central lock, check the presence of voltage on the contacts, then analyze the integrity of the wires and the quality of the contacts. If necessary, isolate the wires or change them. If the system does not work partially (opens or closes only one door, does not respond to all commands, and so on), it will take more time to repair. More on this later.

3 Recovery of vacuum devices - all options

If the mechanical central locking partially does not work in our car, we begin to look for the cause of the breakdown in the compressor. It is this mechanism that most often causes the unstable functioning of the central lock. The following phenomena indicate problems with it:

  1. The locks on all doors or only on one were closed (or opened), but the compressor continues to function (buzz) until it is automatically turned off by the standard protection.
  2. Closing and opening of the locks occurs spontaneously and lasts until the compressor is automatically turned off.

The main cause of the first problem is a violation of the tightness of the elements of the vacuum line. We need to take a close look at her tubes. If air comes out of them, we will hear a hiss. This means that it's time to change the line tubes. Also, the system may not work due to a malfunction of the control board, which is not able to send a signal to the door drive. In this case, you will have to disassemble the compressor unit and clean all its terminals from oxidation. This usually helps.

If the board's performance is not restored, it must be changed.

The second problem almost always occurs due to the appearance of condensate in the system, which leads to a malfunction of the driver's door activator limit switch.

We dismantle this element. We remove all existing condensate. If the situation has not changed, install a new switch.

  • There is poor contact in the electrical circuit between the power relay and the limit switch (wire break).
  • The solenoid coil or winding on the motor burned out.
  • The moving parts of the drive are worn out.
  • A cable broke at the terminals of the solenoid (motor).
  • These malfunctions lead to the fact that the central lock does not close the doors (does not open them), it is unstable, not responding to all commands from the control panel. We need to check the integrity of these parts. And then replace the failed elements (coils, windings, relays, gears), or restore the normal contact of the electrical circuit wires. Any more or less experienced motorist will cope with such work without resorting to car service specialists for help.

The central lock of a VAZ car for the owner is considered a fairly safe device. Keeping pace with progress, a person strives to be in time everywhere. This type of transport, like a car, has long become not a luxury, but a means of transportation. According to statistics, every second person drives a car.

Today, the products of the domestic auto industry are not in great demand, as foreign cars dominate the market. But not everyone can afford a foreign car. Therefore, people buy cheaper vehicles of domestic production. One of these cars is the VAZ 2110, 2112, 2114, which was distinguished by its stable performance, low cost of repair and simple operation.

The principle of operation of the central lock

The central lock is a system that, with a specific command, performs the function of opening or closing an object. For convenience, this operation is performed remotely. Some motorists choose the function of closing all doors after a certain period of time. It is very convenient for those cases when the driver does not have time or forgets to close the car door. As a rule, with the help of a remote control, you can control both the trunk and the hood, close and open the windows. The most common way to control the remote control is to press one button, after which all the locks on the car work. If the remote control does not work for some reason, then you need to insert the key into the door lock and turn it clockwise. If an accident occurs, the car's security system is activated automatically, all locks open. At the heart of the central locking mechanism there are incoming sensors located in the structure itself. These are microswitches and door switches (limit switches), actuators and a control unit. The limit switch must hold the position of the door, and this information must be transmitted to the control unit. The switches fix the structural part of the door lock. The cam device is equipped with the front door of the car. To fix the cam, the front doors are equipped with microswitches: there are two parts for each mechanism. Locking the lock forms one switch, and unlocking the second. There are two more microswitches used by the central locking mechanism. A fifth switch is installed on the lever device in the lock drive. It serves to determine the position of the door: when the door is open, the switch contacts close, the central locking system is deactivated. The electronic mechanism (unit) receives the signal from the microswitches and sends the information to the central control. In order to open an object, the central device sends a signal to certain control units, thereby activating the mechanisms in the locks.

Why the central locking VAZ does not work reasons

As we know, any equipment sooner or later fails. And the central lock on the VAZ 2110 is no exception. There are a number of problems that manifest themselves in the operation of this system. Many motorists inadvertently destroy the security system of the car. The driver must not give a long or rapid impulse to a request to open or close the door.

Scheme of the central lock on the VAZ

This action can disable the activator, with which the locking device works. When a long pulse is applied, the collector of the activator electric motor is very hot. In this regard, the brush holder begins to melt, and it may jam. After that, the activator will need to be replaced.

Protects the circuit of the central locking fuse. It is from him that they begin to search for a malfunction in the operation of the entire circuit. It is located inside the car, behind the fuse box. According to the scheme, it stands on the break of the pink wire (in isolation). Under the driver's mat there is a wire with a plug connector that accumulates moisture and oxidizes. Lost power to the activator. The modular block of the central lock can break. You should check its performance by applying voltage from the battery to the contact of the module connector. The gears of the gear activator are made of plastic. Such parts are subject to wear, and this is a mechanical failure. But the solenoid is considered the weakest point of the central lock, most often it is he who fails. The electromagnet is controlled via a switch. When opening and closing doors, the resource of solenoids is designed for approximately 10 thousand operations. After this number of switchings, malfunctions begin. The repair is simple: you need to replace the solenoid itself.

    Installation of the central lock

When buying a VAZ car in a specialized car dealership, there is a possibility that the functionality of the basic configuration of the security system will be limited. That is, only doors (sometimes not even all) can be locked with a remote control or a key. For the safety of the car, drivers install alarms on all opening parts of the car. To do this, you can use the services of specialists from a service station, or you can do the installation yourself. If you know the schemes of the central lock and the operation of the electronic device itself, then you can easily put the lock on any part of the car. Specialists of different levels use the instructions when installing an alarm on a car. VAZ 2114 central locking schemes and security system installation rules are included with the alarm system. While a system as simple as central locking can fail, you won't find a driver who doesn't praise it. When purchasing a car, everyone looks at the package, which should include an electrical alarm (or central locking). Many cars do not have an alarm, but there is a central lock that was installed at the factory. There is no big difference, but the convenience of the presence of a centralized blocking system is appreciated. This is better than waiting for passengers to get out of the car, then close all the doors from the inside and close your own when leaving. It is convenient to press one button on the remote control so that all doors close / open at once.

There may be such a problem with the system when the battery in the key is dead. But this is not a very serious "trouble", which is solved by simply replacing the power source. The scheme of the central lock clearly proves the simplicity and uniqueness of the device.

If the central lock (CL) does not work, then the driver cannot get inside the car. The article discusses the main types of malfunctions, how to open the doors in case of malfunctions, and also provides recommendations for the repair of vacuum and electric central locking.

    [ Hide ]

    Fault types

The central lock installed on cars has the same principle of operation and a similar connection scheme. Before starting repairs, you should find out how to turn off the central lock and diagnose the equipment.

If an alarm is installed on the car, then the central lock is controlled using a remote control - a key fob. When the keys are pressed, a signal is sent to the control unit and the functions are adjusted. A triggered central lock opens the door.

The central locking system includes switches, connecting wires and electric or vacuum type drives as common elements. Drives are activators. A central drive is installed in the front doors, when activated, electrical signals are sent to close or open the remaining doors.

    Causes of malfunctions

If the central locking stops working, you must first check the fuse box. Short circuits and various violations often occur in the central locking system, which leads to blown fuses.

The central lock does not work when the battery is completely discharged. To check, you need to open the central lock with the key and try to start the car. If it does not start, then the reason is the discharge of the battery.

The reason why the central lock does not work may be in the breakdown of the electronics. You can open the car without a key from the key fob. If the central locking does not open from the key fob, check the batteries and the key fob buttons. They can stick and not work at the right time.

At the next stage, using the instructions, you should check the alarm control unit. It is possible that due to a malfunction in it, the central lock works, but does not close all the doors. Lastly, the microboard is checked, which is located on the activator motor, at the same time the drive itself should be checked. Defective parts must be replaced.

Electric circuit for connecting the central lock

If the central lock does not work, this may be due to mechanical problems: the larva drive hose is faulty. The signal from the key fob received by the control unit is transmitted to the motor on the doors, which should work and act on the hose fixed in the larva. If one end of the hose falls out of the cylinder, the drive is disabled. In this case, the door will not be able to open or close. Thus, the reasons why the lock does not work or the operation malfunctions can be both electrical and mechanical.

Repair of partial failures of the vacuum central lock

In many cases, malfunctions of the central lock are accompanied by prolonged operation of the pump. It does not stop working until it is disabled by protection.

    In this case:

    1. The central lock opens and closes the doors until the compressor turns off. In such a situation, the cause is a malfunction of the drive switch. Voltage is supplied to the pump board from the activator, when the positive is received, the doors open or close. The switch needs to be repaired or replaced with a new one.
    2. The doors close and open, the central lock does not open only some of them, while the compressor continues to work until the protection works.

There can be several reasons for failures:

    • the tightness of the vacuum line hoses is broken;
    • signals to the compressor control board are received, but it does not respond to them;
    • no signal is received from the limit switch for one of the doors to the pump control board, therefore, despite the fact that the doors are opened or closed, the compressor continues to work.

If the hoses are not tight, the entire line should be checked. Torn hoses are replaced whole. If the tubes are intact, the actuator may be leaking or the diaphragm may be cracked. Faulty parts are replaced with new ones or a new lock assembly is bought (the author of the video is AvtoMalyarka from Scratch).

In the second case, the entire electrical network is checked from the activator to the control board, as well as the voltage on each wire. If an open circuit is found, it must be repaired.

The reason may be a malfunction of the compressor control unit. In this case, you need to disassemble it and carefully clean the terminal contacts. If this does not give positive results, then you need to check and repair the control board circuit.

    Repair of electric central lock

CZ solenoids do not tolerate low temperatures over time due to high humidity, especially in spring and autumn. First they start to wedged, and then the door no longer closes and does not open. Solenoids can be cleaned and lubricated, but it is better to replace them with motorized actuators.

Activators may not work or work partially on one of several doors for the following reasons:

    1. Damage to the circuit or poor quality contacts in the electrical wiring.
    2. Relay defective.
    3. If the control is carried out from the board, then it is possible that the reason is its malfunction.
    4. Poor contact at the terminals of the devices or damage in the wiring diagram of the drive.
    5. Depreciation of the components of the activator.
    6. Winding burnt out.

Repair of the central lock of the car should begin with checking the non-working activators: whether voltage is applied to them. If the door closing function is activated, there should be voltage on one wire. If a signal is received to open, the voltage leaves the 1st wire and appears on the 2nd. Based on the results obtained, further actions are performed: either the activator is checked and repaired in case of a malfunction, or the entire circuit is checked, correcting the damaged sections. Breakage of wires is most often found in the corrugation.

    Video "Repair of central lock"

This video shows how to get rid of problems with the central locking of a car (the author of the video is Ksyu and Den. Live blog).

    Central locking won't open

You open the driver's door of the car with the key, while the other doors do not open, although, according to the logic of the central locking, they should open.
The simplest and most common reason may simply be a blown fuse. When it burns out, the electrical circuit of the lock stops working, although mechanically (with a key) you can easily open or close the doors.

I don’t know how it is in others, but in the Chinese cars of the Derweiss assembly, the contact chip from the driver’s lock could easily fly off. Usually this chip has five contacts. To check this possibility and put the chip in place, you will have to open the door. This is done very simply, both on solano, and on geely mk or cross. A screw near the inside handle for opening the door and a screw inside the handle for closing. The door panel itself is held on by plastic caps.

In addition to the chip, the microswitch in the electric drive of the driver's door lock may fail. Its function is to close the circuit when the key is turned and open or close other doors. If you have a regular central locking control panel and with its help the doors open, but not with the key, then the reason is in the driver's door lock.

If the doors do not work when using the remote control (buttons on the key), then either the fuse is to blame, or the BCM does not receive or transmit a signal. On the smiley, this block is located under the steering column, you need to unscrew the two screws and flip the plastic cover. On Solano and Lifan x60, it is fixed under the heater control panel. On Geely Mk above the fuse box in the cabin (right). On emgrande, too, under the steering column to the right of the driver's feet.

Also, do not exclude the cause of chafing contacts in the door harnesses. This is still a rarity, since the cars are all relatively new.

Electric locks do not open when controlled from an alarm

If there is no standard remote control on the key, but there is a third-party signaling and it does not open the door, then the first thing to do is also check the fuses. And not only the car itself, but also the alarm. For this you need to know. Where is the central alarm unit located? Usually, blue and green wires, or blue and green with a white stripe, go to control the central lock. Fuses are hinged directly on the wires.

Of course, the signaling itself could fail. Listen when you press the remote control buttons - are there characteristic clicks of electromagnetic relays in the alarm unit? If not, then check why. Maybe the battery is dead or the remotes have lost synchronization with the unit. Try to program the remotes again according to the instructions for the signaling. If there are clicks, then either the fuses or the wiring are to blame.

By the way, in winter, the load current consumed by the central lock increases due to weather conditions. As a result, fuses may blow more frequently.

Central locking makes life easier for the driver by locking and unlocking all car doors at once. That is why failures in his work are perceived by the owner so painfully.

The principle of operation and the device of the central lock

When the key is turned in the driver's door lock, a microswitch is activated, which sends a signal first to the door control unit, and then to the central unit, from where the control signals are sent to the control units of the remaining doors (trunk lid and fuel hatch).

The actuator of the door lock (actuator), having received a signal from the door control unit, turns on the electric motor with the gearbox. The rotational movement of the electric motor is converted into a reciprocating movement of the lock rod.

Thus, when the driver's door is opened with the key, the locks of all other car doors are unlocked. When locking the driver's door with the key, everything happens exactly the opposite.

If there is a special button on the ignition key, unlocking and locking the car doors can be performed remotely.

The indisputable convenience of the central lock is that simultaneously with the remote locking / unlocking of the door locks, the car alarm is activated / deactivated.

By the way, the central lock is perfectly combined with.

    Failure of the control panel

In the case when the central locking does not respond to pressing the button on the alarm control key fob, try closing the door on the driver's side with the key.

If at the same time the central locking works, the cause of the malfunction is in the portable remote control.

The battery can simply run out in it, but the electronic module of the device also fails.

    Fuse blown

Start troubleshooting the central lock by checking the fuse through which the device is connected to the power circuit.

There are only two reasons for a burnout: a short circuit and an overload of the circuit. In the first case, look for the cause of the short circuit in the electrical wiring.

In the second case, overloads are usually caused by increased current consumption by the motor of one of the actuators.

The “appetite” of the actuator motor increases if, due to or incorrect adjustment of the thrust, the force required to lock or unlock the lock increases.

To find the culprit of overloads, turn off each of the actuators from the connectors in turn.

    chain break

If the integrity of the wires is violated, the central lock either does not show any signs of life at all, or works unstably, intermittently.

Most often, a break in the wires occurs in places where they are constantly bent. Such a place is the transition of the wire from the pillar to the door.

To find a broken wire, remove one end of the corrugation from the mount, along which the wires are connected to the door, and then pull each of the wires towards you one by one.

A broken wire will quite easily succumb to the pulling force and come out.

    Failure of the control unit

Both the control unit located in the driver's door and the central control unit may be faulty.

For diagnostics, you need a tester. Check the presence of voltage first on the conductors of the control line, and then the power line.

Apply current in two ways: by turning the key in the driver's door lock and pressing the button on the portable control panel.

It will be extremely difficult to determine the necessary contacts for testing without the electrical circuit of the central lock.

    Actuator failure

There are quite a few reasons for the inoperability of the actuators: oxidation or damage to the contacts, engine failure, wear and skew of the gears of the gearbox, and violation of the fixation of the fastening of the rods.

Much less often, but the cause of interruptions in the operation of the central lock may be contamination of the lock mechanisms or the ingress of foreign objects into them. A lot of problems can be created by condensation that has accumulated inside the door.

Before you give the car into the caring hands of car service workers or decide to replace the central lock with a new device, try to determine the cause of its malfunction yourself.

Good luck to you! Not a nail, not a wand!
