Renault Koleos with a two-liter turbodiesel: what's the problem? Why the new Renault Koleos is better than the old one It won't let you down anywhere.

Renault Koleos with a two-liter turbodiesel: what's the problem? Why the new Renault Koleos is better than the old one It won't let you down anywhere.

I wrote about the car in the first two reviews, everything suits me, a comfortable move from point A to B. I sat down last spring in the new Koleos in the maximum version, I wanted to give up on my own without looking, but for some reason I was upset, because. in memory the state of the interior of the car sample of 2008. The skin has become artificial without perforation, the airiness of the plastic has disappeared (maybe the stamps - the molds have worn out?) And the negative reviews of the Russian assembly. Therefore, I did not change and continue to exploit my Korean Kolyan.

There have been no breakdowns in the entire history of operation. There was a small accident, hitting a downed calf at night on the highway at a speed of 110 km / h. I did not have time to react, turned away a little, hit the right front wheel, jumped successfully, landed the same. Bent the rack, burst fender liner. I drove to the service, and this is 50 km, myself. After repair at the official, I drove more than 20 tons. Km, the flight is normal. According to the elk, the first TAZ 2114 car that hit the elk cannot be restored, the guy was in intensive care for a week. The second Toyota car seems to be a Verso, a right-hand drive type of a low minivan - all the plastic crumbled into pieces, everything was put together and loaded into it. They pulled off the front panel (TV) with their hands, tied everything that could be under the hood to it, so that the engine would work and the man would go, he said how he was alive, he stayed, he didn’t know, Khan thought!

While I was driving to the service, I thought I had to buy an even larger car and a frame one. So far I have settled on the new Trellblazer, but we will wait for the type of crisis.

Strengths:

Good car! But now for 1,700,000 rubles I would not buy!

Weak sides:

The problem is replacing the brake fluid, because. a special pump is required to push the pump of the ESP system and they don’t change it for you in the service, but they write that they replaced it. And antifreeze, it’s difficult, because. two thermostats. Maybe someone will advise, because. it's time. I did not find any other problems in operation. About ESP, it’s worth it, to be honest, it’s not needed for hell, it’s for inexperienced drivers.

Good day to all readers and writers!;)

As I wrote in my last review about the Stepway, Koleos became my next car.

The Renault brand really caught on with its adequacy in price, quality and indifference on the part of traffic police and hijackers.

Strengths:

  • Convenient, reliable, adapted to Russia at a very reasonable price

Weak sides:

  • In addition to the headrest, I have not identified others yet

Review Renault 2.5 170 CVT (Renault Koleos) 2011 Part 2

Good day everyone.

A year and a half and almost 35,000 km have passed since the purchase of the car, so some conclusions can be drawn.

Generally speaking, the car did not disappoint. Maybe just for the reason that he roughly imagined what to expect from him.

Strengths:

  • Rides) And rides well enough!

Weak sides:

  • Controversial appearance

Review Renault 2.5 (170) CVT (Renault Koleos) 2008 Part 3

Hi all! I decided to write a little in an engineering way about my crossover, because. Koleos was undeservedly omitted in all journals, I understand that all articles are paid, therefore:

1. Geometric cross-country ability, compared with other crossovers for a long time, the conclusion is the best geometry, gaps in its class, checked according to ORD magazine measurements and practically on slopes and hunting and fishing trips. Doesn't stick anywhere. Protection is required.

2.The ALLMODE4X4-i drive system is the best available today, in TerrainResponse you have to spin the drum to select the desired program. I almost always drive in the AUTO position, when the road kicks up (this is when my wife starts screaming in fear)), then I block the clutch. I sat down only three times due to inexperience. In the AUTO position, approximately the distribution of thrust is 90-95% front and 10-5% rear. As verified, you turn on 2WD on the go, the car immediately changes the nature of handling to front-wheel drive, I don’t like it anymore, in AUTO the car goes on the track like it’s on rails. Diagonal hanging is not scary, I am often told that no one needs it, but I constantly encounter this, because. there is enough snow in winter, when you leave the pit along the road, where the cars are parked, onto the road, then everyone grinds, and we easily, only you can hear how the diagonally free wheels slow down. This is still only in freelander and x-trail. The rest smoke.

Strengths:

  • There are no alternatives in this class!

Weak sides:

  • Large turning radius, bigger wheels, 65th profile at 17 radius just right and adaptive cruise is not enough to complete happiness
  • Not in the automatic transmission options hydraulic, cloudy rain sensor

Review Renault koleos 2.5 CVT (Renault Koleos) 2008 Part 5

Good day to all! I have not visited the site for a long time, so I wandered, I decided to report for the period. I will not praise. To write about the merits - I already wrote, I will be brief. Basically I think to describe the technical costs associated with the operation.

For reference: car mileage is mixed. For almost four years ran 127,000 km. On Koleos I was in Krasnaya Polyana (Sochi) in winter; the second time in Lazarevsky - in the summer; then to Abzakovo (ski base in the Urals); Through Moscow - Warsaw - Prague went to Vienna; through Moscow to St. Petersburg, to Moscow a couple of times on business. To Khvalynsk for our skiing, in winter, a couple of times a month. Well, every day in Saratov on business ...

Of the breakdowns, only the hydraulic panel of the variator (electronic gear selection mechanism) really let down, but it didn’t break, but began to pull the car in traffic jams on the “first”, in general it was not critical and not problematic, but as soon as the warranty was confirmed, then I did not refuse to replace . As the dealers said, it is necessary to change the oil in the vario at 60 t km, but Renault does not require it, but Nissan requires it, and it twitched on Koleos)))

Strengths:

Weak sides:

  • During operation, I found some flaws in ergonomics, I would like the manufacturer to fix them, but judging by the updated version, everything remained as it was. However, these are trifles from the series “hard to reach” or “I would like it to be even more convenient”, but if you look objectively, then this is whining ...

Good day!

Since the previous recall, the car has run another 20,000 km. Passed the scheduled TO-45, no problems were identified on it. The opinion previously expressed by servicemen about the need to replace the front brake discs and pads in a circle magically transformed into a proposal to replace only the front pads. Since the cost of this operation at the dealer was approaching 7 thousand (including the pads themselves), I replaced the pads at a private service for 1200. Nevertheless, on the approaching TO-60, the front brake discs and rear pads will still have to be changed.

I independently managed to cope with the rattling of the rear seat adjustment mechanism indicated in the previous review. The problem turned out to be as follows: a metal plate with holes is attached to the body, one of which is inserted into a pin located in the back of the seat. By rearranging the pin in other holes, the backrest is adjusted. Here's how he clumsily explained it. Well, now, the diameter of the pin is smaller than the diameter of the hole, hence when driving on uneven roads (and we all have them), rattling is heard. On the edges of the hole in which the pin rattled, I pasted several pieces of electrical tape. Everything seems to be primitive, but the rattling has stopped. Other noises in the car did not appear, which pleases.

Review Renault Koleos 2.0 dCi (Renault Koleos) 2009

I read here that they write about the gasoline version. I saw that in general people are satisfied. Didn't find any diesel reviews.I fill in the gap. I am writing about the diesel Koleos, especially since it is a completely different machine.

Let's start with the fact that diesel Koleos in 2009 were produced only either in the highest configuration, or one step lower. All diesel Koleos with 6 speed gearbox. My complete set is TOP!Called Luxe Privilege 4x4 2.0 AKP6 Diesel. IN This set has EVERYTHING. TOtaken in June 2010 for RUB 1,264,000 produced in 2009

Strengths:

  • Powerful, elegant, economical jeep
  • Passengers love the glass roof, especially when traveling. Yes, and sometimes I look through it at traffic lights at intersections
  • Outstanding visibility
  • Good fit
  • Huge mirrors
  • AWESOME aerodynamics - the rear window is always clean, which is very strange and unusual for a jeep
  • Very grippy, grippy brakes. The braking force is clearly dosed, there is no backlash in principle
  • Very high-torque, even greyhound engine with automatic transmission. The designers have balanced them very well. Easy to pick up at the start, perfectly kept in the stream. Overtaking uphill - no problem. The truth loses its momentum after 120 km / h.
  • Off-road, what can I say: in the city, it climbs / climbs effortlessly on 15cm curbs. A little higher is also possible - but be careful. The variator does not play such games. Any winter hummocks, city gully passes without problems. I didn’t climb shit, but I walked along the dirt track a couple of times. Feel absolutely confident

Weak sides:

Against the backdrop of positive cons, which revealed two years of operation:

  • At first, I VERY didn’t like his face ... but now I’ve got used to it - it even seems pretty
  • The windshield washer works strangely. It feels like it lacks power in the winter. You can ride, but it does not spray to the top of the windshield. You can raise the nipples, then it's fine, but then in the summer the raised nipples splatter the roof
  • I VERY dislike the silver trim on the visor of the multimedia system screen at the top of the torpedo. She brightly illuminates the video on the registrar. Because of her, the registrar had to be moved from under the mirror lower, which means narrowing the viewing angle
  • There is no indication of turning on the heating of the driver's seat on the dashboard. The button lights up on the seat when it's on. But the button is not visible. And in the summer a couple of times the seat turned on by accident, then I rode on it
  • The glasses are not athermal :(, the sun is hot

Review Renault 2.5 170 CVT (Renault Koleos) 2011

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen!

So I apologize in advance for the somewhat chaotic text and deviations from the canons of reviews, if any.

Strengths:

  • Noise isolation (compared to classmates in the price segment)
  • No need for hijackers
  • The roof is cool

Weak sides:

  • Prejudice :)

Review Renault 2.5l 4wd 171hp CVT (Renault Koleos) 2009

Hi all,

when I chose this car, I studied the reviews for a long time, so I decided to make my own contribution, maybe it will help someone in choosing their option.

In 2009, he chose a crossover for his wife. Initially, I planned to take a used X3 from Germany, I wanted a 2-3l turbodiesel, but, as you know, the customs officers made an unpleasant surprise for everyone at the end of 2008, so I had to abandon this option, because I didn’t want to buy here.

Strengths:

  • The best crossover option in terms of money / functionality
  • Excellent handling, suspension, flotation
  • Comfortable interior with plenty of storage space
  • Low theft and the price of insurance
  • Low maintenance cost

Weak sides:

  • High consumption of gasoline
  • The algorithm of the variator is clumsy
  • Not the most successful car exterior design (however, an updated version is already on the way, much more successful)
  • Washers for glass and headlights (I believe that a design flaw)
  • Auto-brush mode clumsy
  • Small trunk and back seat
  • Possible big price drop on sale

Review Renault Koleos 2.5 4WD (Renault Koleos) 2008

At the end of May 2010, I bought a used one with a range of 8500 km in the maximum configuration. Before that, I tested a similar car in a car dealership and was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and suspension. I knew everything about the dynamics before, because. a relative drove a Nissan X-Trail with the same engine and CVT. I was looking for a used one, because I did not want to pay so much money for a new one.

Someone likes the exterior of any car, someone does not. I took it for myself, I like it. The rear window is at a very decent angle, it does not get dirty at all. The angle of entry front and rear of the bumpers is very close to the Volkswagen Tiguan, you don't have to worry about deep and high obstacles. Excellent noise isolation and smooth running. Handling like a Nissan. I raised the brushes by a division, ended up in the windshield heating zone, and adjusted the windshield washers in advance before winter. I did not feel any particular inconvenience during operation in the winter, like many who write on the forum. But for Renault, a big minus is that they didn’t think through the heating of the brushes in the waiting area and you need to do the windshield heating. I put upper and lower nets in the front bumper to protect against dirt, pebbles and midges, I don’t understand why Renault engineers don’t think about elementary things. You can't let a car out with holes like that! Be sure to protect the crankcase.

Strengths:

  • Comfort
  • Equipment
  • Dynamics
  • economy
  • Excellent suspension

Weak sides:

  • Some minor flaws

Review Renault koleos 2.5 CVT (Renault Koleos) 2008 Part 4

Good day to all. Decided to write a year and a half period of operation. We lived with KOLEOS for quite a long time for grinding. In general, satisfaction from my typewriter wins, but I find fault all the time, but how else?

Let's start with reliability. It was repaired more than once and for strange reasons ... and tried to repair it myself ... Firstly, the refrigerant from the air conditioner escaped somewhere twice. The first time they didn’t find it, they stupidly refueled it and sent it home, but six months later I returned to them (it was winter, but I felt it in the spring), it doesn’t work again. This time, with their smart glasses, they found out that he was running away from somewhere ... they apologized (which is important), refueled and let him go again, while he was working, he lived through the summer ...

Then something pounded in the chassis … went to the servicemen. It turned out that the bushings of the stabilizers were broken, they were changed under warranty, because Renault guarantees their work up to 50,000, but ... because of this, the boot of the axle shaft collapsed, and for almost half a year we have all been waiting for the dust boot, and now the entire axle shaft in assembly, because according to the warranty engineer, most likely the bearing after a hot and dusty summer PPC ... Thanks to the three-year warranty and service. I don’t praise them, I know that what we do with our hands is no good, so only children ... But these have never refused and are always so attentive. By the way, maintenance prices have been reduced this year from 11,200 to 7,300 (they are fixed at Renault, they don’t charge more than regulated).

Review Renault Koleos 2.5 l. 171 HP CVT (Renault Koleos) 2008

Hi all! I decided to write a little about my Gray Hippo))

Together with January 2010, we drove a little more than 16 thousand, recently passed the first MOT cost 7800r (including consumables). initially did not plan to buy something big and all the more all-wheel drive. When the question arose about changing cars (at that time he owned a VAZ 2105 1998 onwards), he began to look at a not very expensive medium-sized passenger car, but with a ground clearance of at least 17 cm. on the top five and on the working Octavia Tour, the clearance was just enough, I didn’t want to deprive myself of the opportunity to go to the country road and ride on the curb.

Not far from my house is an official Renault dealer, where I went at the end of December for a test drive of Logan, yes, yes, I planned to buy this chest on wheels, moreover, I still consider it one of the best offers on the market for unpretentious and simple workhorses. Having driven Logan, I was delighted with the suspension, sensitive brakes, bottomless trunk and spaciousness in the cabin (even compared to the Octavia). It was decided to wait for the reystyle version, which went on sale after the new year. But after NG I was lucky to earn a certain amount of money and the purchase budget has expanded to about 800k ... Here I have already scratched my head)) The more options - the more difficult the choice ...

Strengths:

  • Reliability
  • Driving performance
  • Comfort

Review Renault Koleos (Renault Koleos) 2008 Part 2

So, the continuation of the review about Koleos.

Since the first recall (April 2010), the car has run 17,000 km, 7,000 of them on the roads of Scandinavia, and passed TO-2. During this period of operation, the overall impression of Koleos has not changed, the car continues to delight. But there were also some minor shortcomings.

With a run of approximately 20,000 km. when driving over bumps in the cabin, a slight rattle appeared on the left rear. I found that the mechanism for adjusting the position of the rear seat back (most of it) rattles. Because of such nonsense, I didn’t go to the service, but during the planned maintenance I drew the attention of the master. By comparison (there were two more Koleos at the service), such a problem was revealed in all three cars when the seat back was in the lowest position. Disassembly and lubrication of the mechanism did not give anything, but when the backrest was moved one position up, the sound disappeared. So now I go.

Weak sides:

Review Renault Koleos (Renault Koleos) 2008 Part 3

I want to note that the shortcomings from the last review have not gone away, here I tried not to touch them anymore, but something may intersect.

1. Ergonomics.

Painting the central speaker on the dashboard with silver has a strong effect on the windshield ... I got used to it, but recently I planted a person who solved such a problem at home, he immediately said that it catches his eye, interferes. This means that designers and testers were not connected in any way during development, or this stage was simply not paid for.

Strengths:

  • The price was competitive with discounts

Weak sides:

  • Quality

Review Renault Koleos (Renault Koleos) 2008

A 2008 Renault Koleos was purchased in March 2009. Color - olive, equipment - maximum. When choosing a car, I was guided mainly by the level of comfort, price-quality ratio and upcoming operating costs. The previous car was Focus-2, so some comparisons are inevitable.

Behavior on the road. The suspension, which is unusually comfortable for an SUV, sets you up for a calm driving style. Although, if you wish, you can be quick and smart - the motor allows. The downside of suspension comfort is a fairly noticeable roll in corners. In fact, a lot depends on the rubber. I have a summer one - a regular Hankook, a winter one - Bridgestone Ice Cruiser 5000 (a gift from the dealer when buying). Both tires are scolded, but personally, during normal everyday use, I can’t say anything bad. In one of the last reviews I read about the nervous behavior of Koleos when falling into large pits. In my opinion, it depends on the size of the pit and the speed of the hit - in other pits, even MAZ will flinch :) At least I did not notice anything like that. In general, driving performance is a definite plus, emotions are extremely positive. But in general, this car — for a calm, measured ride.

Salon. High-quality finishes, decent sound insulation, a huge number of hiding places, glove compartments and drawers, and many other bells and whistles. With my height of 182, there are no problems getting behind the wheel, and in general the dimensions of the cabin are at the level, let's say so - correspond to the size of the car. The panoramic roof is very pleasing, but it also has a minus - in frosts over 15 something constantly creaks in it. Of the other disadvantages of the cabin - extremely inconveniently located seat heating keys. Not only can you not find them without a habit, you occasionally touch them when getting into the car. At the same time, there is an indicator for turning on the heating of the passenger seat on the instrument panel, but alas, the driver's seat. Apparently, the fifth point of the driver should serve as an indicator :) But these are trifles. The main problem in the cabin for me is the climate control unit. When the ignition is turned off for more than 5 minutes, the climate settings are reset, after the ignition is turned on, the climate has to be set up again each time, and it also does not turn on immediately. This is annoying, especially after the Focus, where the climate readings were saved when the ignition was turned off. Appealed to the dealer — shrugged. I know that the same climate unit is on some Nissans. If anyone knows how to solve the problem - I will be very grateful. Visibility from the driver's seat is excellent, there was only one problem - the left wiper blade did not reach the pillar of 5 centimeters, which worsened visibility. When the brush leash was moved one position up, the uncleaned strip disappeared, and the brush ended up in the glass heating zone. I strongly recommend to other owners of Koleos. When you press the turn signal lever until it clicks, the turn signal blinks once - and in the Focus it blinked three, which is more convenient. There is no washer fluid level indicator, which always ends at the wrong time. However, such an indicator is generally rare.

Review Renault Renault koleos 2.5 CVT (2008 onwards) (Renault Koleos) 2008 Part 2

I wanted to make a report after a year of operation, but I could not resist when I read the members of the forum. It is often said on the forum that Koleos is the Korean auto industry. Well, why is he bad? All my friends who ride Koreans are very satisfied. But the main thing in the car is different. Controls and electronics from Renault, engine and chassis Nissan X-Trail. Everything has been tested over the years of operation and their reliability does not cause me doubts. All of the above are assembled together at a factory in Korea. The machine is not Korean, the factory in Korea. It's called globalization.

The machine is very satisfied. I don't regret buying. The car is worth its money. If anyone is going to buy - take the complete set. In general, the car is very practical, for me this is the main thing. Much has been done for the comfort and convenience of the driver and passengers. The main complaint of potential buyers is the body design. Not everyone is ready to accept this. In Russia, the main thing is the facade, and what is behind the facade is not important.

Anecdote on the topic. The woman underwent breast augmentation surgery. She comes to the doctor and says: "Doctor, something is wrong with my breasts." Doctor: "Let's see." After the examination: "You know, you were mistakenly sewn on *opus No. 8 instead of chest No. 3." Woman: "What should I do, doctor?" Doctor: "Something, wear it."

Strengths:

  • The car is made for people, their convenience and comfort

Weak sides:

For a car like Renault Koleos, competent maintenance and timely check of the proper condition of all components and assemblies is the key to many years of trouble-free service of the iron horse. Today we will tell you what you need to know about Renault Koleos transmissions, and what troubles the owner of this urban crossover with automatic transmission and CVT can expect.

Classics of the genre

It is well known that only three types of transmission are offered for Renault Koleos: manual transmission, automatic transmission, as well as a continuously variable variator. The mechanics are offered only for the poorest trim levels, but the automatic is the only choice for those who decide to purchase a Renault Koleos with a diesel engine.

Why is a continuously variable transmission never used with a diesel? The answer to this question is quite simple.

The fact is that a diesel engine has much more traction and torque than a gasoline-powered car. In this regard, a load is placed on the gearbox, which the variator, which has such a complex device and many components, is no longer able to withstand, and permanent repairs are simply impractical.

It was on the basis of these considerations that the manufacturer Renault Koleos made a wise decision and began to install automatic transmissions with a classic torque converter on their cars. Such a transmission has six steps, and therefore perfectly "gets along" with a two-liter turbodiesel and easily transfers the loads that a high-torque and powerful engine gives.

However, an automatic transmission is an extremely complex device, which is why the question arises about the reliability of such gearboxes. The manufacturer claims that a car with automatic transmission is able to drive up to 300 thousand kilometers without any intervention, but when checking, everything turns out to be not so simple.

So, often the torque converter fails, as evidenced by the characteristic buzz in the area of \u200b\u200bthe automatic transmission housing, as well as jerks when driving at a constant speed - the car twitches noticeably during acceleration.

To avoid such breakdowns, qualified craftsmen recommend changing the oil in the automatic transmission at least once every few years, as well as cleaning the storage magnet filters from metal chips. This will extend the life of the metal bearings and prevent premature failure of the automatic transmission.

CVT

In addition to the classic automatic transmission, which is used exclusively in tandem with diesel Renault Koleos, a variator is widely used, which has a more complex but perfect device and is designed to improve the acceleration and dynamic characteristics of Koleos, as well as get rid of annoying jerks and jerks when switching gears. , as in the case of automatic transmission.

On Renault Koleos, this type of gearbox has a V-belt type. This means that in addition to the two shafts that connect the wheels and the engine, a system of belts is involved in the gearbox, which contribute to the synchronous rotation of the drive and driven shafts.

This type of transmission is used exclusively on 2.5 engines that do not have a turbocharger and high torque. In this way, excessive loads will not be placed on the transmission device, and the variator will be able to work longer and not wear out too quickly.

A separate word deserves the question of the resource of the variator. According to the manufacturer, such a device can do without repair at least 300 thousand kilometers. However, it often turns out that the CVT fails prematurely. This is due to the aggressive driving of Renault Koleos and excessive loads in the form of hauling trailers.

Typical malfunctions

The variator, which is installed on Koleos, has a sufficiently high reliability, which allows it to work for a long time in tandem with the 2.5 engine and does not require repair. However, it is not possible to do without problems at all, and Renault Koleos often gets into trouble on long runs.

The most common problems are caused by overheating of the oil and, as a result, the failure of Koleos. Repair in this case cannot be avoided, but the reason for such a problem is clear to the naked eye. The fact is that the variator constantly operates at high speed and heats up quite strongly due to friction.

The role of the cooling system on Koleos is an additional radiator, which provides cold air access to the heated metal.

Over time, the radiator cells become clogged with dust and foreign particles, and air access stops. As a repair, a complete cleaning of the ventilation grid and the replacement of failed components are proposed.

Another typical problem that Renault Koleos owners often face is jerks during acceleration and movement. The car shakes noticeably while driving. This means only one thing: the Renault Koleos torque converter has failed, the repair of which, as a rule, costs a lot of money or is completely impossible. In this regard, it is recommended to contact the dealer or a specialized service. This will help pinpoint the exact reason Koleos is twitching while moving.

Also, during the operation of a transmission of this type on Renault Koleos, extraneous noises often occur that require immediate repair. As a rule, this is expressed in the appearance of a noticeable hum when a sufficient speed is reached. Moreover, with an increase in speed, the hum not only does not disappear, but also intensifies, and in some cases begins to be accompanied by vibration and metal shocks.

Most likely, the bearings are out of order and need immediate repair or replacement. Such repairs on Renault Koleos will be expensive, the procedure includes a complete disassembly of the body and is a very laborious process.

Summing up

The variator, which is equipped with Renault Koleos, is a modern device with high reliability. Unfortunately, any mechanism wears out over time, and problems can rarely be avoided at high mileage. In this regard, it is important to make timely transmission diagnostics, thanks to which it will be possible to predict the need for early maintenance and repair.

In the entire history of sales, the first generation model was not particularly popular. The attitude towards the crossover performed by Renault remained wary. This was explained simply: Renault in our understanding is Logan and the like. However, over the years Koleos has earned a good reputation. He earns his money honestly.

Let not handsome, but inexpensive, sometimes comfortable and quite reliable. Approximately so it is possible to characterize our present ward. Let's make a reservation right away, there is absolutely nothing to scold and stigmatize him desperately, although the car has a lot of shortcomings and weaknesses. As a result, all the troubles associated with it are solved in quite budgetary ways. With rare exception...

The interior is assembled from quality materials, but the steering wheel cover wears off pretty quickly. The leather of the seats is also far from being of the highest quality, the side faces of the driver's seat cushion from increased load tend to crack first. The rear sofa is comfortable, but the seat is too short. And you can’t exactly call the legroom for the rear passengers redundant.

In Ukraine, Koleos was sold with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 170 hp. and 150-horsepower diesel. After the second restyling (2013), 25 “horses” were added to the diesel engine and it became 175-horsepower. From the boxes for both engines was available "mechanics". The gasoline engine was sold with a variator, and the diesel engine relied on an automatic. Drive type - complete with a lockable electromagnetic clutch. In fact, technically the car repeats the Nissan X-Trail, the popularity of which, due to its appearance and richer market sales experience, turned out to be significantly higher.

Almost a good boy

We will not slander French motors. If you believe the forums of the owners, there are not many complaints about them in terms of reliability. Indeed, dynamics can hardly be named among the virtues of this model. The gasoline unit - it is of a rather old design - is rightly accused of high fuel consumption. Especially in the city. With a diesel engine, problems are typical: monitor the quality of the fuel and the condition of the fuel equipment.

If you are not afraid of the lack of hurricane dynamics in overtaking, soft suspension and noticeable roll in corners, Koleos will be an excellent choice. And the functionality of the salon can even pleasantly surprise you. It is a pity that the last restyling of 2013 deprived the crossover of boxes in the front seats and underground in the back row

To a greater extent, the problems affected the variator. Wear affects this node quite noticeably. Hum, crunch, vibrations ... However, a regular, every 60,000 km, oil change and maintenance of its cooling radiator push the problem a considerable distance. Sometimes flashing helps. The variator quickly gives up after sharp starts from a traffic light and long slips on the road. With the "mechanics" or the machine, some characteristic and typical problems do not happen. Failures can occur mainly based on the manner of operation of a particular owner.

Roughly the same words can be said about all-wheel drive. Koleos is not an SUV, so do not abuse the clutch lock. In difficult conditions, it tends to overheat, and then it becomes impossible to control it. But a truly massive misfortune can be considered a failure of the cardan shaft. This is after 100,000 km of run. Replacing the assembly will cost a couple of hundred dollars. Although there are more affordable options with repairs.

Little things

There are complaints about the weak paintwork, but they are few. The main rusty part is the front subframe. It seems that it is closest to the ground, and therefore rots. Many recommend treating it ahead of time with anticorrosive. However, the main misfortunes of the crossover are minor household mechanical problems, as well as troubles with the climate system and other electrical appliances.

So, the cables of the locks break, the panoramic roof hatch sticks, and the roof itself creaks treacherously. The fifth door (its upper part) does not open well. Yes, and the locks of the lower sash also often jam. The rear seat backs rattle. They do not always agree to form into the flat floor promised by the manufacturer. And in front there is a distinct and in no way eliminated backlash of the seats. The car is very talkative: it rubs somewhere, crunches somewhere, creaks somewhere. Like the front pads. It's not easy to defeat them.

Of the electrical problems, it is worth mentioning the chaotic actions of the climate control, the poor operation of the air conditioner, extraneous sounds from the passenger compartment fan, poor contacts of the rear light bulbs, incorrect operation of the rain sensor ... But you never know where discomfort can suddenly arise from?

And yet we were surprised by the huge number of warm and positive reviews on the forums on the Internet about this car. And this despite the fact that dissatisfied people write there more often. Everyone pays tribute to a relatively inexpensive and generally quite reliable car. She earns her money in full. Another thing is that selling a fairly used Koleos can be quite difficult. This is also recognized by almost everyone.

Suspension

Racks and bushings of the front stabilizer are often responsible for knocking in the front suspension. If replacing them does not work, then most likely the reason is in the shock absorbers, which will also have to be replaced. In general, the chassis is considered relatively durable, and a wide range of suspension components of good quality and at a reasonable price is available on the market.

Transmission

To avoid breakdowns of the torque converter in a 6-speed automatic transmission, it is recommended to change the oil at least once every three years, as well as clean the storage magnet filters from metal chips. This will extend the life of the bearings and prevent premature wear of the box, whose resource can reach up to 300,000 km.

Engine

The 2.0-litre turbodiesel is reliable and hasn't shown any serious defects so far. There are cases of premature wear of the working layer of the liners, but, fortunately, no turning was recorded. According to experience, liners "go" up to 250-300 thousand km. Another infrequent problem is the death of the EGR valve.

Body

By about the second or third year of operation, the first unpleasant signs of rust may appear under the rubber bands of door seals, on the outer surfaces of door frames, welds on doors and even pillars. We recommend treating dangerous places with anticorrosive. The body of Koleos, although they are called galvanized, but only partially.\

Electrician

Usually a lot of complaints from Koleos owners come about the poor performance of the climate control, especially in winter. It happens that windshield wipers and power windows fail. Many are not satisfied with the power of the windshield washer motor. The failure of the electric trunk lock is also not uncommon. Everything in bits.

Finally, the new Renault Koleos arrived in our country. We immediately took the car for a test and first of all compared it with its predecessor in order to personally assess how far and, most importantly, in which direction the car went with the generation change.

For me, one of the main problems of the first generation Koleos was appearance. I can't say it's scary. But you can’t write him down as handsome either. A massive nose and a strong slope of the rear pillars formed a strange silhouette. The second generation is a real dandy. Stylish optics with LED boomerangs of running lights, elegant chrome elements on the sidewalls, elegant rear lights. The designers got so carried away that they moved the decorative “gills” to the front doors. What can they cool down there? Nevertheless, the current Koleos looks very stylish. And not only against the background of its predecessor, but also in comparison with classmates. Including the related Nissan X-Trail, with which Renault Koleos traditionally shares the platform.

Unlike the first generation, the doors of the new Koleos completely cover the thresholds, so the trousers will remain clean. The interior makes it clear what French charm is. Strict, but elegant lines are bent only where necessary. There is an abundance of piano plastic and soft panels everywhere. I am sure that on the desktop of the laptop "interior designer" Koleos there is a splash screen with a Porsche Cayenne. How else to explain that the architecture of the center console very accurately repeats a similar element of the German crossover. True, unlike Porsche, the Koleos console is not busy with a scattering of buttons, but with a large touchscreen of the R-Link 2 multimedia system. It pleases with rich colors and high definition. What can not be said about the logic and performance - both of them leave much to be desired. But there are no questions about dual-zone climate control, only the backlash of the “wheels” that set the temperature could be smaller.

Ergonomics worked out well, although without the traditional French philosophy of the location of the buttons "as God puts it on the soul" could not do. Some of the cruise control buttons are located near the parking brake, and some are on the steering wheel hub. However, these are quibbles. As well as comments on the driver's seat. It is densely packed in German, and the ranges are quite wide. The heating buttons have moved from the end of the seat to the center console. In addition, in addition to heating, the front seats also have a blower function! I did not like only the profile - the back in the area of the shoulder blades presses more than we would like. This is perhaps the only miscalculation of the workplace. The steering wheel and partially virtual instrument panel are beautiful and comfortable.

Transplanting into the old Koleos, as if you are making a jump into the past. The high-standing seat forms a bus seat familiar from many Renault models of the recent past. The seat itself is profiled better - there is nothing pressing in the area of the shoulder blades. The multimedia system with a conventional LCD display is simpler, but it also does not have a logical menu, and the control keys are scattered across the center console and tunnel. But the climate control buttons and knobs look nobler, and it’s more pleasant to press or rotate them tactilely. The space in the area of the central tunnel is organized worse, the armrest is not adjustable in the longitudinal direction. But the old Koleos easily compensates for all this with a large assortment of convenient little things. Whether it's a tray under the front passenger seat or small compartments in the armrests of the front doors. There is a eyeglass case, and next to the interior lighting shades there is a retractable spherical mirror to control the inhabitants of the second row. There is less room in the gallery for the knees, head and shoulders, when compared with the spaciousness in the new Koleos. But there are compartments under the feet of the rear passengers, and the air flow from the deflectors can be adjusted. Even the predecessor was regulated by the angle of inclination of the back of the rear seats. All this creates a very cozy atmosphere.

The new Koleos is deprived of such trifles. In addition to the space on the second row, it has grown significantly and the trunk. The volume from 450 liters increased to an impressive 600. But with the change of generation, the branded double-leaf tailgate went down in history. Now the trunk is hidden behind a conventional lift door. On the one hand, it is more convenient to climb into the farthest corner of the luggage compartment. On the other hand, it was easier to load heavy things with a flap. You could also sit on it. There are pockets on the sides in the trunk of the new Koleos, and in the underground there is a convenient organizer on top of the spare wheel. The spare, however, is on a stamped wheel. Unlike the previous generation, where the spare wheel is mounted on an alloy wheel.

As far as the old and new Koleos differ in appearance, they ride so differently. The old crossover is calmness itself: lazy reactions to the steering wheel, the steering wheel itself is not too sharp, noticeable rolls in corners and when braking. But there are zero complaints about the smoothness of the course. The first Koleos successfully swallows everything that comes under the wheels. Be it transverse seams and joints, medium-sized pits or speed bumps. Among classmates, he is, if not the best, then one of the best in terms of comfort on a broken road. But the new Renault will definitely not disregard the "speed bump" or the pit. It is tougher on a broken road, and the margin of safety of the chassis is clearly lower. But the new Koleos boasts very good handling. Of course, a pair of Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq gives much more revelations to the driver. But the Koleos amplifier conscientiously fills the steering wheel with lead weight as the speed increases in the turn. In addition, Renault keeps a straight line well - with such steering settings you don’t get tired on a long journey. The main thing is that the road should not be too broken.

Otherwise, the two cars are very close. The capabilities of the tandem 2.5-liter engine and CVT are the same for both Koleos. And both are ready to consume the 92nd gasoline. Dynamics Renault is not breathtaking, it is enough. As well as the efficiency of the braking system. The slowdown is excellent. But the drive in the new car is better tuned and allows you to more accurately dose the desired force. And the old Koleos is prone to longitudinal buildup, which also discourages the desire to sharply upset the car.

There is no standard engine protection. Only a small plastic casing that does not cover the crankcase or box in any way.

There is no standard engine protection. Only a small plastic casing that does not cover the crankcase or box in any way.

Outside the asphalt, the new Koleos lost ground relative to its predecessor. Not only did his entry and exit angles decrease by five degrees, but also the electronic assistants decreased. The transmission capabilities remained the same - the center clutch can be forcibly blocked. But the assistant descent from the mountain disappeared. Why? Indeed, sometimes on dirt roads this is a very convenient thing. But the new car has a black plastic body kit around the entire perimeter of the body. Now the risk of spoiling the gloss of the bumpers in contact with the curb or the ground is much less.

It's a shame that the new Koleos has lost a lot of the nice little things from the old car. But this is an incredibly stylish SUV. He noticeably added in the space of the trunk and on the second row, pulled himself up in driving disciplines. In addition, even in the basic version with all-wheel drive and a two-liter engine, Koleos has a very good set of options. Atension, competitors? We will find out in our comparative test in one of the next issues of the SR.

Six different opinions about Renault Koleos

Until recently, French automakers did not indulge their admirers with all-wheel drive versions. Say, why, if the whole of Europe is already dressed in asphalt pavement. True, once in a lifetime, back in 1999, Renault tried to break into the crossover segment by offering a version with the RX4 index of the Scenic minivan. That was a long time ago. And here is the second attempt - Renault Koleos. Successful or not so good? Let's listen to our users

When the SUV segment in the European car market was rocked a decade ago by an unprecedented increase in sales, indigenous old-world manufacturers could only bite their elbows, watching the Japanese or Korean companies get the lion's share of this tasty pie. To be honest, many of the European brands already at that time closely cooperated with firms from the Land of the Rising Sun, and, of course, they had no particular claims to the successful sales of their partners. But then the marketers intervened, not without reason, assuming that a car with a local brand would rather find a buyer for itself than an imported one. Today it is no secret to anyone that often standing next to products with a European and, for example, a Japanese nameplate on the radiator grill, except for this part, practically do not differ from each other. Moreover, before leaving the gates of the car dealership, they left the same branch of the conveyor. There are many examples of such branding in the modern automotive world. But not all alliances think the same way. For example, Renault approached the creation of its version of the SUV in a more original way than its eternal competitor, Peugeot / Citroen: using a “donor” platform from Nissan crossovers, it developed its own body and interior for the model. However, when saying that Koleos is a purely French product, marketers are a little disingenuous. The production of cars was launched in 2008 at the Korean plant of Samsung, which is also part of a single alliance with Nissan and Renault corporations. By the way, the twin "Frenchman" in the domestic Korean market is offered as a model called Samsung QM5.

Shustrik

According to off-road luminaries, a car to overcome off-road must be equipped with a diesel engine. Two factors speak in its favor - maximum traction on the bottoms and low fuel consumption. Renault Koleos with a diesel engine turned out to be surprisingly mobile - if I had not known in advance what was hidden under the hood, I would never have guessed what this car was driven by. Good traction and accelerating dynamics, as well as more than modest fuel consumption definitely add points to this car in front of classmates. But this is on the highway, but what about off-road? Shod in road tires, Koleos easily overcame clay climbs and rain-washed ruts in the field. In the course of shooting, it took a quick acceleration on a wet field road. By turning off the ESP and forcibly blocking the center differential, we managed to achieve excellent results - the car literally clung to the ground with every wheel and accelerated confidently. Removed the rear left wheel. The car left this position without problems in fully automatic mode. Summing up, I will say that in its class, Koleos is perhaps one of the best “rogues” that I have experienced. In general, it’s good on the highway, and it doesn’t let you down on a small off-road!

original and ordinary

However, in whatever part of the world Renault Koleos would be produced, the fact that French engineers had a hand in its birth is visible to the naked eye. Due to the original exterior design, it is simply impossible not to notice this car in the general stream. Nevertheless, unlike the external design, it is quite ordinary in design. Like most crossovers, its body acts as the main load-bearing element. The front suspension is made according to the MacPherson strut scheme typical for modern passenger cars, and the rear suspension is multi-link. The platform on which Koleos is built is used on all Nissan SUVs - from the smallest Juke and the very popular Qashqai to the mid-size X-trail. Borrowed from these models is the All Mode 4x4 all-wheel drive system, in which an electronically controlled Haldex clutch is responsible for transmitting torque to the rear axle. A distinctive feature of this scheme can be called the multi-mode of its operation, which the driver can change by rotating the control washer. In the first mode (2WD), the driving wheels are only the front, in the second (4WD Auto), torque is supplied to the rear axle through the viscous coupling in the event of even a slight slip of the front wheels, and, finally, the third (4WD Lock): the clutch is locked, and the traction between the front wheels and the rear wheels are distributed in a ratio of 50:50. It is worth noting that the latter mode is intended only for short-term operation - during prolonged movement, the locked clutch overheats quickly enough and enters emergency operation mode or, simply put, ceases its functions to provide torque to the rear axle.

According to the range of Renault Koleos power units offered on the Russian market, it does not differ much from representatives of the related Japanese range. The main engine is a gasoline 2.5-liter "four" with a capacity of 170 hp. Depending on the desire of the buyer, it can be aggregated with a six-speed manual gearbox or a variator.

The second engine, which is installed on our ward, is still a dark horse for domestic consumers - a two-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 150 hp. relatively recently appeared on our market. Together with it, both a six-speed mechanics and a hydromechanical automatic machine with five ranges can work.

Not my element

Sometimes I don’t understand the editor-in-chief: why was I put on a diesel Koleos? What can be common between him and sports? No, this is a normal car, roomy, even comfortable. The tailgate leans back, and it’s comfortable to sit on it - well, sit down, whoever you like, but I like driving more. There is nothing criminal about driving either - it’s very possible to move from home to work and back, especially since you need to stop at the gas station once a week at most. But with a good pressure on the gas, I think the car does not understand what they want from it. Then he realizes that he needs to switch down and rush. But a spoon is the road to dinner. And in the corners too: as long as you drive in the mode of a peppy pensioner, everything is fine. And as soon as you add speed, you find that there is not enough feedback on the steering wheel, the car floats a little on the arc, it lacks accuracy. Again, under the release of gas, the diesel engine does not slow down very much, you have to press the brake pedal at the entrance to the turn to load the front axle. In principle, there is no crime in this. If I got tired of driving fast and wanted to take myself from point A to point B, I could very well do it on Koleos. But for the time being, there is no need for me to give a ride in cars built for completely different people. I won't rate.

Full equipment

Regardless of the chosen motor, the buyer can count on the good equipment of the car. Already the basic version of the Renault Koleos (Expression) is equipped with variable power steering, 17-inch alloy wheels, an on-board computer, air conditioning, a chip card instead of a conventional ignition key, built-in fog lights and electrically heated exterior mirrors.

The initial passive safety package also looks good - two airbags and an emergency brake assist system. By choosing the next most equipped modification, this list can be supplemented with dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, cruise control, automatic parking brake and many other little things that increase the comfort of the car, including attributes such as the ESP system, combined with downhill assistance systems and starting on the rise, and side inflatable curtains for the front and rear crew members.

The cost of the car can be described as average - the initial level of equipment when choosing a modification with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and a manual gearbox will cost the buyer 999,000 rubles. The most expensive version of gasoline versions, when equipped with a variator, will pull 1,120,000 rubles. But when buying an option that has been on our tests (a turbodiesel coupled with an automatic gearbox), you won’t be able to save - 1,159,000 rubles, which is somewhat more expensive than cars with a gasoline engine. You can slightly reduce the price of a diesel modification by ordering a copy equipped with a manual gearbox. This option costs 1,214,000 rubles.

Without any reservation

There are machines that are absolutely not suitable for performing functions related to the maintenance of a vast country estate. There are those that are ideal for these purposes, but cause a lot of inconvenience in daily urban use. So, Renault Koleos - in my opinion, the golden mean. The 2.0-litre turbodiesel plus automatic combo installed on our sample provides pleasant dynamics and demonstrates good elasticity (of course, not in super racing mode) and at the same time is distinguished by a very moderate consumption of the cheapest type of fuel on our market. Thanks to good visibility and not prohibitive dimensions, there are no problems with operation in the city, and a roomy interior and a spacious luggage compartment allow you to transport even fairly bulky items. By the way, if we talk about the possibilities inherent in the internal component of this car, I cannot help but note such pleasant little things as folding tables on the backs of the front seats or the ability to turn the front passenger seat into a comfortable dastarkhan. Even the folding rear side, which at first was perceived by me only as a marketing ploy, in fact turned out to be a very convenient detail. And I’ll load it easier through it, and it performs the functions of a bench when going out into nature perfectly. And if we add to all these positive points a good ride, a fairly quickly connected all-wheel drive and a lot of other little things that turn trips from tedious work into a pleasant vacation, then the title of the golden mean can be assigned to this car without any reservations.

Not only fuel!

Of the features of the operation of the turbodiesel version, we note that maintenance is more expensive than that of gasoline modifications (10,000 rubles versus 8,000), but it pleases the same frequency of its passage - every 15 thousand km. However, the amount of the annual transport tax on it will be only 4,500 rubles. Moscow rates.

The rest of the costs associated with the maintenance of the car, if you do not take the cost of fuel, do not vary much depending on the type of power unit. The cost of an OSAGO policy for Renault Koleos in Moscow is about 6,000 rubles, and voluntary CASCO insurance will cost the owner about 100,000 rubles. However, this amount can be reduced by refusing to pay in case of car theft: as statistics show, Renault Koleos is not popular with car thieves.

By preference

One of the important advantages of this modification of Koleos is an automatic transmission with a traditional torque converter. It is more preferable when moving outside the asphalt and causes fewer complaints from owners than CVTs on gasoline versions of the crossover.

What is a diesel? For me - normal, sharpened for urban operation. He very briskly responds to work “at half a pedal”, until you exchange the second hundred on the speedometer. If it is normal to "trample", the feeling of traction reserve disappears, replaced by a slight thoughtfulness. Moderate motor noise and appetite. I would like to see some means for accelerated winter warming up, because there are fears that in the urban cycle the car will warm up longer than gasoline counterparts.

As for the car itself, I remember it as a compact crossover for every day. Not so big for a "long-distance", but quite sufficient in the city. With not very transparent and generally accepted algorithms for controls, but with the ability to quickly adapt to French features.

The front of the cabin - four plus. The upholstery materials are soft and pleasant to the touch, the glove compartment is huge, there are plenty of places for throwing small things here and there. The back is a bit cramped, according to my preferences, and the upholstery on the front seats is woven. A child sitting in the back in a child seat will quickly tidy them up with their shoes.

How good and convenient a double tailgate is, rather, depends on your hobbies and height. On the one hand, it is convenient to “cover a clearing” on the folding side, on the other hand, not everyone can comfortably reach the things lying in the back of the trunk.

In general, as is often the case, everything is decided by the preferences of users. In the case of Renault Koleos, you often come across polar opinions - someone likes the car to the point of euphoria, while others won’t even look in its direction. For some reason, I ended up in the middle.

Will not let you down anywhere!

A clean, light gray Renault Koleos was waiting for me in the parking lot. Outwardly, he is quite well tailored, but, in my opinion, a brighter suit would suit this crossover more (well, I don’t like gray cars!). The interior is very concise, the instruments are easy to read, and the necessary buttons are always at hand - in a word, there seems to be nothing to complain about, but, frankly, it still lacks expressiveness or charm. It's static.

And in the dynamics of the “Frenchman” I liked it: it accelerates briskly, the directional stability is excellent, and the reactions to steering turns are quite adequate. Our version is equipped with a turbodiesel, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission - what else does a woman need to be happy? Almost all the fair sex love the automatic machine (there are, however, exceptions, but I am not one of them), and the diesel engine, as you know, eats much less than the gasoline, and therefore I was an infrequent guest at the gas station, which, of course, is positive affected my budget.

I was also very pleased with the clearance, which Koleos has even a little more than most of the SUVs I have tested. So in the city you can safely park on it, climbing high curbs, and boldly move through non-standard speed bumps. At the exit from the asphalt, Koleos will not be afraid of either a broken gravel road or a liquefied primer with potholes (all-wheel drive here, by the way, works very quickly). But heavy off-road or deep fording is still not his element, but crossovers are usually not intended for this.

In my opinion, this "Frenchman" - although a typical city dweller, but in infrequent forays into the wild, he certainly will not let you down!

Pros and cons...

The ergonomics of the French crossover in the configuration that was present in our tests can be rated at four with a minus. The most serious remarks are the too short pillow of the driver's seat and the rather wide pitch of its mechanical adjustments. As a result, the average person will spend quite a lot of time searching for the most optimal driving position. It is worth noting the not entirely successful profile of the backrest of the pilot's seat and the small range of adjustment for the reach of the steering column.

Visibility Renault Koleos can be described as optimal. The A-pillars leave virtually no blind spots in front, and large exterior rear-view mirrors provide a wide field of view. The pluses in this nomination include a good transmission of a picture of the state of affairs behind the stern of the car and through the interior mirror.

For dynamic qualities, a car equipped with a 150-horsepower turbodiesel and automatic gearbox receives an average score. When starting from a standstill and in calm and aggressive modes, the power unit provides acceptable acceleration, however, when switching to kickdown mode from a steady state of motion, the machine does not quickly select the gear that is needed in this case.

In terms of handling, Koleos is quite consistent with the temperament of the power unit - high stability on straight sections, precise following of the trajectory set by the steering wheel in gentle turns. Only on steeper bends are there increased rolls and a slight departure from the desired course. True, these roughnesses are a completely justified payment for a decent ride, good energy intensity of the suspension and the absence of buildup on bumps. There are no complaints about slowing down in general, the only remark is excessively sharp reactions to the operation of the brake pedal.

In the aggregate of all the properties, Renault Koleos deserves a solid four - a completely organic and, most importantly, very predictable and safe car.
