Tell the young person that he is about to move to another area or city. He will experience the joyful excitement of meeting a new life and coming changes. Break the same news to an older person—elderly parents or other older relatives—and you will likely see concern in their eyes. Not surprisingly, elderly people see only risks in this situation - a critical way out of their comfort zone.

Well where am I going

Almost 13 years ago, my parents, in order to be closer to their son and daughter living in the capital, decided to move from a closed military camp 80 km from Moscow to a closer settlement. They worked in the town for 36 years: their mother worked as a school teacher, and their father worked in a military unit. All this time they were not allowed to travel abroad, which earned them the right to move closer to their grown children under the state program. My father was 69 at the time and my mother was 67.

The first acquaintance with the new apartment, which the state gave, in general, pleased: the six-story building was buried in greenery, heating and water supply worked properly (in the town - intermittently) and the fifth floor without an elevator did not frighten then. We moved almost all of their furniture, as at this age the parents did not want to change the situation.

Weekdays after the move revealed a lot of difficulties. The store and the nearest stop were located 10 minutes walk, the clinic - 15 minutes by transport. There was no pharmacy, Sberbank, or post office nearby. Climbing to the fifth floor was more and more difficult for parents every year - they increasingly complained of weakness in their legs, a "popping" heart and shortness of breath.

In addition, people respected in the town, who knew everyone and whom everyone knew, were left completely without a social circle - it turned out to be expensive to call former friends and acquaintances, and it was not possible to make new acquaintances: the other two apartments on the floor were rented out, the neighbors were constantly changing, the house actually did not have a yard where you can walk and chat.

Sometimes sick parents did not leave the apartment for days even for groceries: they could not imagine how they would go up to the 5th floor with bread and milk. Not to mention getting to the post office to pay the rent. In such cases, they waited for the weekend, when I or my brother would arrive.

The only thing that saved us was a dacha not far from our former place of residence, where we took our parents from April to October. There they again found themselves in the usual comfortable environment - they were surrounded by long-familiar faces, they did not have to go up to the 5th floor, and there was always something to do in the garden, flower garden and garden. After the move, dad suffered two heart attacks, and three years ago he died. Mom is now almost 80 years old and she, coming home from the dacha, barely rises to her 5th floor. She does not agree to move in with me or her brother - like many at her age, she does not want to interfere or be a burden.

Don't move until the last

Children often get angry at their aging parents when they refuse to move closer to them. But are they right?

According to Alexey Sidnev, the head of the Russian group of companies Senior Group, specializing in comprehensive care for older people, the best thing to do is not to move.

“You should not move if possible, as this is a huge stress for the elderly – it is better to keep your elderly relatives comfortable and provide them with the necessary help or care at home,” the expert says.

(It seems that our well-meaning family made the mistake of not thinking about the possible future problems of parents. Although, according to psychologists, in the case when older people themselves made the decision to move, they understand the consequences and adapt more easily.)

Make your move smooth

But what to do if moving to an institution or to another place of residence for older people is inevitable? In Moscow and the Moscow region, Senior Group has seven institutions for the elderly, this experience has allowed us to develop our own rules. The move must be carefully prepared.

As Aleksey Sidnev says, first of all, the move must be made smooth. That is, on the one hand, to acquaint a person as much as possible with the conditions in which he will find himself and with the future environment. If this is a nursing home, then the staff should also learn as much as possible about the new ward in advance.

“In our case, a nurse who will see an elderly person, communicates with his family, goes to his home - we study his habits, favorite foods, hobbies, daily routine. It is necessary to create an atmosphere in his new room close to the one in which he lived at home - this will significantly increase the possibility of his early adaptation, ”Alexey Sidnev shares his experience.

Cases of an elderly person moving to a new or similar institution, unfortunately, are not rare, says Liza Oleskina, head of the Old Age for Joy Foundation. For example, they are inevitable when the "old" facility does not meet fire safety requirements. In her opinion, it is important to first prepare older people as much as possible for what they will see in a new place. The most active wards should be sent there on an excursion together with the staff, so that when they return, they will tell in detail about the new place.

How to make the old people adapt faster on the spot? Truthfully and clearly explain to them the reason for the move, reassure them that all their belongings will be transported with them, that they will also be settled in rooms, as before, that they will also have everything close there - both the toilet and the dining room, that they will be able to go out to street. If you manage to involve them in joint affairs - to ensure their minimum employment and participation in decision-making (even in choosing the color of the curtains) - consider that you have won.

“It is advisable to immediately help such an old man adapt to him - show him how to get to the dining room, tell the schedule of his day, week, month as clearly and in detail, and if he immediately finds out that his bathing day is Tuesday, where you need to water the flowers, he will feel feel more confident and calm. This will increase his autonomy. Then, most likely, he will not lie down all the time, but will again begin to walk and eat on his own, ”says Lisa Oleskina.

Preserving Memorabilia and Mode

Aleksey Sidnev advises taking as much memorabilia as possible to a new place, from photographs to furniture, as well as pets - cats, dogs, birds, if an elderly person has them. (When choosing a boarding house for your old man, be sure to ask if there is such an opportunity.) It is recommended to visit an elderly relative as often as possible, especially at first.

It is important that a person can maintain his usual mode. “If we learned from him or from his relatives that he likes to sleep longer in the morning, let him sleep, and when he wakes up, we will separately feed him what he likes to eat for breakfast,” explains the head of the Senior Group.

Usually, according to Aleksey Sidnev, with this approach, 80% of older people take about two weeks for primary adaptation, the remaining 20% adapt for about a month.

Moving with dementia will lead to confusion

Psychiatrist, geriatrician and psychotherapist Grigory Gorshunin also insists that moving in old age is a psychological trauma and a reason for a mental and physical breakdown.

“If moving is unavoidable, it must be borne in mind that if an elderly person has dementia, the first consequence will be confusion,” the expert says. “In this state, an elderly person can become aggressive, show motor or psychomotor agitation day and night, do not understand where he is, do not remember who he is, do not recognize relatives.”

The fact of moving, as Gorshunin explained in a professional language, leads people with dementia to a breakdown in adaptation. “In this state, spatial orientation skills are not formed at an older age, a person does not acquire new skills at all, which means he cannot adapt to new conditions, cannot remember what is where,” the expert stated. “Confusion can only be treated with medication.”

According to him, even hospitalization may be necessary - the most suitable drugs are selected for the old man in the hospital. “Properly selected medicines relieve confusion in a couple of days,” the geriatrician reassured. “As an ambulance, an acute state of confusion can be removed with Corvalol or Valocordin, but this is not a panacea and there is no way around treatment.”

Rehabilitation of the soul: so that there is no depression

If an elderly person moving to a nursing home does not have dementia, it’s still not worth relaxing, Grigory Gorshunin believes, another misfortune may lie in wait - depression.

“A person understands that relatives, as they say, “surrendered” him to a government house, the doctor notes. - A feeling of longing falls on him, he suffers like a child. He has to be treated for depression, which occurs in response to the location, environment, strangers. In addition, blood pressure and blood sugar indicators change, which creates an additional threat to the health of an elderly person.”

“One of the nannies in a regional nursing home once told me,” the doctor recalls, “that among non-demented wards there are “accustomed” ones - to hospitals, nursing homes, etc., and there are “home” - elderly people who were once surrounded by constant care relatives and nurses and not adapted to life in a state-owned house. So the “home” ones are often the most vulnerable: they do not live long in the institution and can actually die from boredom.”

To prevent this from happening, you need frequent visits from relatives or a round-the-clock personal companion nurse who will listen to the old person and talk to him.

Liza Oleskina says that the anxiety that is natural for the first time after moving will be relieved by creating the most accessible environment and clearly organized space: good lighting, free passages, renovated stairs.

“It is necessary to remove the stressful perception of the situation as soon as possible in order to remain active, so that a person can plan his future, because anxiety and aggressiveness caused by stress seriously impair the mental capabilities of an elderly person,” the director of the Old Age in Joy Foundation draws attention.

The most important thing for an old person after moving is not just care, but rehabilitation of the exhausted life of the soul, - says Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Zarubina, a specialist in caring for the elderly and disabled with an experience of 32 years, once the director of a state hospital for the elderly in the Arkhangelsk region, and today representative of the "Old Age in Joy" Foundation in this institution.

“We involve a person in various activities, we try to inspire that his life has not ended,” Lyudmila Aleksandrovna shares her approach. “It is impossible to make the whole world happy, but each of our nurses and nurses can choose their grandparents as their hearts and give them personal attention and love.”

With the development of medicine, a large number of new techniques and equipment appear. Unfortunately, not all medical institutions are equipped with them. Sometimes, a particular patient has to go to another city to undergo the necessary examination or any other procedure as directed by a doctor. Seriously ill patients are in a difficult situation, as they need to be transported, which is equipped with medical equipment and has trained medical personnel who will monitor their condition on the way to another city. In the vastness of our vast country, sometimes such patients have to travel long distances.

Thus, the transportation of bedridden patients should be comfortable and safe, eliminating the risk of injury. Often, a person with limited movement experiences pain and severe stress at the slightest change in body position. These are serious illnesses, and advanced age, and the postoperative period. A private car is contraindicated for the transportation of such a category of citizens, and transport comes to the rescue, specially equipped for the needs of bedridden patients.

When you may need to transport a patient

Relatives face the question - how to transport a bedridden patient to another city? In cases of transportation, relatives and the patient himself have to turn to special private companies, since usually the state program for the transportation of seriously ill patients involves the execution of a large amount of paperwork, which requires a huge amount of time, which some patients do not have. Cases when a bedridden patient needs transportation:

  • If a person was hospitalized urgently in another city. Usually, upon discharge, relatives want to take a person to their city for further rehabilitation or treatment.
  • Bedridden patients with oncological pathologies can be sent for examination to large oncology centers in neighboring cities and even countries.
  • Patients with spinal or pelvic injuries can, at the request of relatives, be transported to other cities and hospitals for further treatment.

Thus, the transportation of bedridden patients between cities is in great demand and is important for the provision of quality medical care.

Public and private organizations transporting bedridden patients

Accepts emergency calls and brings patients free of charge to stationary places of treatment by the state ambulance service. At the same time, the organization does not carry out a reverse evacuation of a bedridden patient in case of refusal to hospitalize him, and will not take him home after discharge from the department. It is possible to issue paid transportation, but the bureaucratic procedure takes a lot of time and effort.

The law provides for the creation of non-profit services, whose activities include the transportation of bedridden patients free of charge or at minimal prices. As a rule, they operate only in large cities and do not always have everything necessary to provide quality transportation to all categories of people with disabilities.

When it comes to evacuation to another city, and even more so to another country, one cannot do without private licensed services for the transportation of bedridden patients. Special medical transport has all the necessary equipment for the safe delivery of people unable to move independently in accordance with the principle "from bed to bed" along the following routes:

  • to medical institutions and back home;
  • to rehabilitation, health or diagnostic centers;
  • to railway stations, to airports;
  • to other cities, regions, abroad.

Paid services work around the clock on, have a wide range of services, a discount system, trained staff and have various modes of transport that are always ready to help disabled citizens, regardless of diagnosis.

The cost of transportation is calculated individually and depends on the type of vehicle chosen, the duration of the trip, the degree of severity of the patient and the professionalism of the attendants (employees with medical education or a brigade of orderlies).

Important! In addition to transportation, commercial service personnel can accompany the patient throughout his stay at the reception or examination in a medical institution.

Types of transportation

On the territory of the country, there are three types of transportation of bedridden patients to other cities - using rail transport, air transportation, as well as moving the patient in a specialized car. The choice is dictated by the patient's condition, financial capabilities, reason and direction of transportation. In all cases, there is trained medical personnel with a person who has the right to engage in such medical activities. The transportation team includes: a paramedic or a doctor, as well as a nurse.

Rail transportation air transportation Transportation by car
As a rule, for this, the company that carries out transportation buys out a whole compartment and is equipped with portable medical equipment. This makes it possible to turn the compartment of the train into an intensive care unit, in which the patient will be in comfort and under the supervision of staff. Companies organizing the movement of the patient in this way, agree with the airline and organize a place in the tail section of the cabin. Air transportation is suitable for patients who urgently need to be transported over a long distance. They are produced on a specialized ambulance equipped with all the necessary equipment, medicines, as well as oxygen supplies for transportation over long distances.

Important! In the case of transporting a patient abroad, the staff of the transportation service will assist in the preparation of travel documents, in cooperation with the embassy, will provide an interpreter.

Transportation of a bedridden patient by train

This rarely happens, since it is precisely when it is possible to most fully approximate conditions similar to an intensive care unit due to a spacious compartment and a large amount of necessary equipment that can be placed. In addition, there are special cars equipped with pneumatic lifts for convenient lifting of a bedridden patient into the car.

As a rule, this method of transportation is indicated for the most seriously ill patients who require maximum comfort and close supervision of health workers. They are contraindicated in pressure drops, temperatures and other factors that can affect the deterioration of a person's condition. If during the trip the patient's well-being becomes a threat to his life, then at the next stop the person is removed and hospitalized in the nearest hospital to stabilize the condition.

This rarely happens, since it is during rail transportation that it is possible to most fully approximate conditions similar to an intensive care unit due to a spacious compartment and a large amount of necessary equipment that can be placed.

Transportation of a bedridden patient by plane

It is important to know that it is necessary to plan the date of transportation to another city in advance, preferably no less than 48 hours in advance. Airlines have the right to refuse to provide a seat without giving reasons.

Therefore, the moving company needs time to find a suitable flight. To fly, you must obtain permission from the attending physician, as factors such as atmospheric pressure differences, strong takeoff speeds, and turbulence can affect well-being.

They try not to transport seriously ill patients by plane, because due to the small amount of space inside the cabin, it is not possible to install the amount of equipment that will be needed. Therefore, the flight is allowed for patients of moderate severity and simply bedridden patients who, for one reason or another, need the supervision of medical personnel. Such transportation of bedridden patients from city to city has the most important advantage - speed.

Transporting a bedridden patient by car

The initial equipment of the machines involves monitoring the patient with any diagnosis and severity. The entire team is involved in this type of transportation: a doctor, a paramedic, a nurse and a driver. Unlike other forms of transportation, only one relative may be present if necessary. At the same time, the patient must be in a stable condition, since transportation involves braking and picking up speed by the car, turns, bumps. If necessary, the medical team can stop, seek help from hospitals along the way, and even urgently hospitalize the patient, if necessary.

Transportation of bedridden patients by road is the most demanded type of service in the city and beyond. It includes a resuscitation vehicle, an ambulance and an ambulance taxi. The difference between them lies in the degree of staffing with medical equipment and medicines for emergency care, as well as in the qualifications of accompanying specialists. Many services limit their activities to only transporting a bedridden patient to their destination, without providing medical services before, during and after the trip. Others have experienced doctors and paramedics on their staff, which is especially important when moving seriously ill patients who require constant monitoring by a doctor.

All cars must have technical characteristics designed to morally and physically facilitate the trip of an incapacitated person. This is the presence in a spacious and roomy cabin:

  • functional soft stretcher with fasteners that fix the body;
  • wheelchair and stretcher;
  • soft suspension, smoothing shocks from bumps on the roads;
  • climate control system that monitors the maintenance of comfortable conditions;
  • disposable bed, pillows, blankets.

Vehicle special equipment

Medical equipment in vehicles used to transport bedridden patients:

Kind of transport Equipment
Ambulance, ambulance, train
  • electrocardiograph
  • defibrillator
  • oxygen inhaler
  • tonometer
  • heart rate monitor
  • infusion system (dropper)
  • ventilator
Airplane, helicopter Additionally:
  • resuscitation system with a vacuum mattress and a mechanism for loading the patient on board;
  • central oxygen cylinder (6000 liters capacity) and optional additional;
  • pressure infusion bag;
  • breathing bag with overpressure valve and suction pump

How is the shipping cost calculated?

Many factors play a role here: the severity of the condition of a bedridden patient, the number of equipment and medical personnel who will be transported, and most importantly, the distance. In any case, the further the destination, the higher the price. All companies have their own tariffs, and some even have their own discount system. Therefore, there is no specific price for all customers, as the cost is calculated individually, based on a specific case. Thus, with the level of development of medical care, the question of how to deliver a bedridden patient to another city and even a country becomes not as problematic as, for example, several decades ago.

Preparation for the process of transporting bedridden patients

The position during transportation of bedridden patients in transport depends on the diagnosis and combination of concomitant injuries. For successful transportation, it is important to take a number of measures that not only do not harm the health of a non-walking passenger, but also facilitate the work of the people accompanying him. This includes carrying out preliminary hygiene procedures, and preparing documents, analyzes, medical reports by relatives, and psychological support, and monitoring the patient's condition by the doctor.

The decision on how to transport a bedridden patient must be made jointly with the attending physician. Indeed, the health, and sometimes the life of a person, depends on how quickly and professionally the transportation is carried out.

When a person is sick, it is very sad, but when he cannot move independently, it is doubly sad. Relatives and friends are ready to do everything to alleviate the condition of a loved one or just give him pleasure, and sometimes this requires transportation of bedridden patients from city to city sometimes outside the country. The purpose of the move can be different - you need treatment in a clinic, rehabilitation in a sanatorium or a vacation at a resort. Or maybe the whole family moves to another city. One way or another, deciding how to deliver or transport a bedridden or non-walking patient to another city can turn into a real problem.

Anyone who has had to deal with a similar situation will confirm that it is not easy to cope with it. Transportation of patients from another city or transportation of bedridden patients to another city is a very difficult and responsible task. A person who has serious mobility difficulties or is unable to move at all is confined to a bed or a wheelchair, and therefore cannot move in the traditional way - in a car, train or plane. In addition, there are also such severe cases when the transportation of the patient can be dangerous for his life. In all of the above cases, transportation of immovable patients requires a vehicle with special medical equipment.

This work can only be done by qualified specialists with the help of special stretchers, because for those who are involved in transporting patients between cities, this is not a problem. It should be remembered that in especially severe cases, the patient should not be shaken, often he should be provided with access to oxygen (for which an oxygen mask is put on), medical support, and so on. Each case is individual, and professionals of a specialized medical company can orient themselves in a specific situation, correctly ensure transportation.

conclusions

It is unfortunate when a disease overtakes an elderly person, but an even greater misfortune is when he is partially or completely immobilized. Relatives in this case try to find the best treatment, provide the necessary care, but often this requires the transportation of the sick person to another locality or even abroad. The trip may be dictated by the need to deliver an elderly person to the right medical institution or to a sanatorium for a restorative stay. For relatives, it is important to ensure that the transportation of the elderly is carried out in the most comfortable way for them.

What are the features of the transportation of the elderly

It happens that older people need professional medical help, and they need to be brought to a medical facility. Of course, very careful delivery is needed, because the serious condition of people can be further aggravated due to the trip. How to do it? Without a doubt, it is necessary to have medical staff or any other person who knows how to professionally provide emergency assistance to a patient during transportation, because anything can happen on the road. Next, you definitely need a special vehicle equipped with the necessary devices - to monitor the indicators of the heart rate, pressure, breathing of an elderly person. Various means and conditions may also be required to fulfill the physiological needs of the patient (disposable diapers, diapers, wet and dry wipes). Indeed, often people in this state, and even advanced age, suffer from weakness, cannot control the work of the excretory systems (enuresis, encopresis). An abrupt change in position, anxiety about the trip can increase the manifestations of these ailments in the elderly. And, of course, it is very important that the accompanying personnel be informed about all chronic diseases and pathologies of the people being transported. For example, about diseases that relate to such systems as:

    Endocrine. The most common problem of older people is diabetes mellitus, which forces them to follow a special diet and inject insulin. And, of course, in this case, you need to know when to give injections and what to take to the patient.

    Cardiovascular. Their signs are arrhythmia, breathing problems, changes in heart rate. This means that the accompanying physicians should be ready to reduce, with the help of medications, the possible negative reaction of the body of an elderly person to transportation.

    Musculoskeletal. In case of osteoporosis or anomalies in the structure of the musculoskeletal system, transportation will require special equipment for fixing the patient, a wheelchair and other acceptable devices in accordance with the form of the disease.

And, of course, one of the most important qualities of an accompanying specialist will be tact, patience and attentiveness to those people who need help.

Transportation of the elderly over long distances

It happens that a bedridden patient needs to be transported to another city to receive qualified medical care. Or health problems in the elderly suddenly arise away from their homes. In such circumstances, urgent mobile transportation to another city of an elderly person is required. In modern conditions, it is possible to transport people even in serious condition.

Transportation can be done using:

    Air transport.

    Railway transport.

    Automobile transport.

This variability allows you to transport immobilized people to the right place when it is needed. Air travel is used when urgent medical intervention is needed. But this is the most expensive way to transport patients. If the elderly are required to be transported by plane, then seats are booked three days before the flight so that the air carrier prepares all conditions for their safe flight. If it became necessary to transport an elderly patient by rail, issue a written application for the provision of a whole compartment, the conditions of transportation in which correspond to the instructions of the attending physician. A car or a special minibus is the most popular option for transporting the elderly, because in this case a person is transferred only twice - before the trip and at its end. In addition, for such transportation, cars are used that are already specially equipped with everything that may be needed on the road when transporting a bedridden patient, including the elderly.

How should the elderly be transported to another city?

Everyone who has ever encountered such circumstances will confirm that the transportation of bedridden patients is not as simple a task as it seems at first glance. Transporting an elderly person to another city, and even immobilized by a disease, is a serious test for everyone, because the usual ways of traveling for such a patient are impossible, and sometimes life-threatening. Therefore, partially or completely immobilized people should be transported only in vehicles specially equipped with the necessary medical equipment, in comfortable conditions for the patient and a place for the accompanying person. So, in this car there should be devices that control blood pressure, oxygen supply, or, for example, a stretcher for convenient fixation of the patient in case of a spinal injury, and there must be doctors nearby who would monitor the patient's well-being. It should be noted that the transportation of an elderly person consists not only in the move itself, caring for the patient and the ability to assess his well-being, but also in transferring from floor to floor. Only qualified specialists can do this correctly. They have special stretchers at their disposal, because in some cases a seriously ill person needs to be provided with access to oxygen, he cannot be shaken while being carried, etc. Any patient requires an individual approach, which can only be provided by specially trained employees of a medical institution providing such services. In order to transport an elderly person from one city to another, you need to use an ambulance, which must be equipped with the most modern equipment, namely resuscitation devices, devices that can provide almost any medical care, a mattress and a stretcher. Comfortable conditions for the transportation of an elderly person and the stability of his condition should be provided by highly qualified doctors.

And, of course, before transportation, it is required to assess the severity of the patient's condition:

    light- allows transportation of the patient with constant medical supervision and the presence of special stretchers;

    average- requires more careful monitoring of the patient, compliance with all medical recommendations with the mandatory implementation of preventive measures and constant monitoring of the patient's well-being;

    high- involves careful and continuous monitoring of the patient's condition with the inclusion of therapeutic measures depending on the symptoms, support of the resuscitation team to maintain the patient's viability at the proper level.

The weakening of all body functions in old age leads to the frequent appeal of an elderly person to the help of physicians. But it can be very difficult for the elderly to make a trip to a medical institution on their own. For the elderly, this is a serious stress, so the transportation of elderly patients must be carefully prepared.

Transportation of patients with problems of the cardiovascular system

Almost all elderly people suffer from hypertension, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmias and other diseases of the cardiovascular system. Moving and the unrest associated with it can provoke respiratory failure, hypertensive crisis, and myocardial infarction in the elderly. To avoid such problems, it is necessary to transport elderly patients accompanied by a doctor and in specially equipped vehicles. So, if an elderly patient has diseases of the cardiovascular system, the ambulance should be equipped with a device to control breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, and also:

    defibrillator;

    oxygen-respiratory equipment.

    all medicines for emergency care.

Transportation of patients who are particularly susceptible to injury

Everyone knows that in an aging organism, bone strength is reduced to such an extent that even a slight fall or a sharp change in body position during the transportation of elderly people can lead to serious dislocations and fractures. Therefore, in such cases, the patient is placed on a comfortable stretcher, a car designed to transport the elderly is equipped with a damper to minimize shaking during transportation.

Transportation of patients with mental disorders

In old age, people also often progress mental illness. The stress associated with traveling to a hospital can provoke a violent reaction on the part of the patient, threatening injury to himself and others. The solution in this case is to take a mild sedative drug before transportation and fix the patient's limbs to the stretcher. Elderly people often experience urinary and fecal incontinence. Therefore, we must not forget about hygiene when transporting an elderly person, we must think in advance that all the necessary means and accessories are available for such cases. The gentle and patient approach of the medical staff, a kind, caring attitude towards people who are no longer young and weakened by illnesses are indispensable components of a successful transportation of the elderly.
