Story Nissan Terrano(Nissan Terrano):

Nissan Terrano and V off-road vehicle with a three- or five-door body.

The first generation of compact SUVs Nissan Terrano in the back of the WD21 debuted in August 1986. It was assembled both in Japan and in America (under the name Nissan Pathfinder). Initially, only a three-door version was offered, and only in 1990 did the five-door Terrano-I go on sale.

One of the distinguishing features of the first Terrano is that the length of the three- and five-doors is the same (2650 mm), which is why the three- and five-door models are technically completely identical. The three-door station wagon model was partially unified with Navara 1.0-ton pickups with a four-seat 'one and a half' (King-size) and a six-seat twin cab. An ordinary pickup truck (with a 4x2 or 4x4 wheel arrangement) with a single three-seater cab differed in the shape of the front fenders and hood. In the five-door version, the rear door handles were very peculiarly camouflaged at the top of the rear pillars. The design of the body and frame was developed taking into account the requirements of passive safety. A five-seat all-wheel drive car on a powerful spar frame, characterized by high strength and good corrosion resistance, with a two-stage transfer case and a rear differential lock, fully meets modern concepts of SUVs. The front axle is delayed, but is equipped with automatic disengageable clutches built into the wheel hubs, so the transition to the rear-wheel drive road condition does not take much time and saves quite a lot of fuel. The suspension has two levels of stiffness: sporty, when the body rolls less in corners, and comfortable, when the long-stroke suspension does not seem to notice all the bumps in the road surface.

Interior design is rustic, but quite ergonomic. The instrument panel is in a rectangular style typical of the 'Japanese' of the mid-1980s, a small casing rises above the middle part of the panel, combining the transverse and longitudinal inclinometers and the altimeter, which is completely useless on flat terrain. All instruments are clearly visible, and all levers (including the 'transfer case' control lever) are easily accessible. However, the driver's landing, despite numerous adjustments, is far from optimal, since the pedals are too high and the tall driver simply has nowhere to put his feet, while even adjusting the column helps little. Interior ventilation is also far from optimal. But the power steering is very light, and the stability on the highway is quite sufficient for movement in any weather at high speed. And yet, it is not worth overestimating the capabilities of a V car in this regard, since the center of gravity is quite high due to the frame structure. On Nissan Terrano/ Pathfinder, depending on the performance, both narrow and wide wheels were installed, which greatly affects handling. Trunk volume from 425 to 1550 liters is enough to carry bulky items. On Terrano with injection engines, it is possible to self-diagnose all injection systems and sensors. This is very convenient because you can make a qualified diagnosis of your car without any computers at service stations. A diagnostic unit is installed under the front passenger seat, on which all fault codes are displayed using two LEDs. It remains only with the help of a special table to determine which element or sensor is sick.

At various times, since 1986, the Nissan Terrano has been equipped with various engines. Z24 petrol 4-cylinder engine with a volume of 2.4 liters and a power of 103 hp. with a timing chain drive and two candles per cylinder, it was produced from 1987 to 1992. Models with single injection went to the European market (while in the markets of third countries and in the USA there were also carburetor versions with a slightly modified ignition system). From the 88th year, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine with a VG30 timing belt begins to be produced (which subsequently won the greatest popularity). The power of the mono-injection engine was 130 hp. Distributed injection (from the 90th year) added another 18 hp to this figure. A slightly less common engine with a TD27T turbocharger with a volume of 2.7 liters and a power of 99 hp. This is a very reliable and modern engine, however, requiring (like all diesel engines) high-quality and timely maintenance. For the market of third countries and Japan, its non-turbo version TD27 was produced.

Terrano is equipped with a part-time all-wheel drive transmission. The main drive is rear, and if necessary, the front axle is connected. In the rear axle of most cars there is an LSD limited slip differential, which in difficult road conditions slightly increases the patency. The transfer box is two-stage, driven by a chain drive. Manual transmission only 5-speed. Some of the cars were equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption in real urban operation with a gasoline engine is about 16 l / 100 km.

The brake system is dual-circuit with a vacuum booster. Front ventilated disc brakes, but rear options are possible: either drum or ventilated disc (rare). The efficiency and reliability of the entire braking system is high.

Terrano II debuted in 1993. The new model, jointly developed with Ford, was created by the Nissan technology center in Barcelona (Spain), as well as its counterpart Ford Maverick. They belonged to the class of compact SUVs fashionable in the early 90s, only the Terrano II was designed for Europe. The car was designed by Belgian stylist Alain Blonet.

At first, a model with a short base (2450 mm) and a 3-door body (4105x1735x1800 mm) appeared on the market. Later, a 5-door version appeared, extended to 2650 mm on the base with overall dimensions of 4585x1733x1810 mm. The disadvantages of the Nissan Terrano 2 in a three-door version include a small trunk of only 425 liters and an uncomfortable fit in the back seat. The five-door station wagon is deprived of these disadvantages; the trunk increased to 1900 liters, and on some versions a third row of seats was installed in it.

The Terrano II, with its tightly built yet neat design, has a galvanized body. The traditional frame construction provides it with high strength and rigidity of the body. The body is mounted on the chassis through rubber mounts that protect the cabin from shock and vibration. The high center of gravity leads to longitudinal rocking of the body at high speeds. This is especially felt on the short wheelbase version. Anti-roll bars are provided in the front and rear suspension to reduce body roll during fast cornering. Winter driving on Terrano II does not bring trouble only when driving in 4x4 mode. In rear-wheel drive, the car is extremely prone to skidding, even on a completely flat and harmless stretch of snowy road. But it is worth connecting the front axle, as everything falls into place.

Terrano II is quite a tall car, and this has its advantages: a spacious interior with a high ceiling and a large glass area. The raised tailgate and spare tire on the tailgate significantly limit visibility when reversing, especially when parking. Salon trimmed enough quality, comfort and ergonomics on top. Good sound insulation of the cabin allows you to listen to music without straining at speeds up to 130-140 km / h. The basic equipment of these models is not rich: power steering, central locking, electric mirrors. However, the lack of leather and other electric drives is justified by the low price of the jeep.

The 1993-1995 Terrano II only exists with two variants of the inline 4-cylinder powertrain. The first of these is a 2.7-liter turbodiesel with a power of 99 hp. and the second gasoline injection 12-valve engine with a volume of 2.4 liters and a power of 124 hp. A diesel engine is more powerful and more economical, but with a gasoline unit the car is faster, although it has to be spun up to 4.5-5 thousand revolutions. Until 1995, the Terrano II was equipped exclusively with a five-speed manual gearbox. It is famous for its reliability and practically does not break.

In July 1996, the V car underwent modernization. The design of the front end has changed (annoyed square headlights were replaced with revolutionary and well-forgotten old round ones), and bumpers of a modified shape began to be painted to match the body color. The 2.7-liter turbocharged diesel received intercooling of air and electronic fuel injection, due to which its power increased from 100 to 125 hp. The 2.4-liter petrol engine on the three-door Terrano develops 116 hp. and on a longer five-door 118 hp. The serial equipment included an airbag for the driver and an electronic anti-theft device. ABS as an optional extra.

In 1999, a new improved model was introduced in Frankfurt. The front part of the body has become wider and more powerful thanks to the new grille and powerful bumper, which are related Nissan Terrano with the flagship Nissan Patrol GR. The headlights with improved light indicators are assembled into a single block (the low beam light beam has become 40% wider, and its range has increased by 22%). The rear is lower and wider, equipped with new brake lights and combined taillights. On the casing of the spare wheel hanging on the rear door, characteristic cuts appeared, designed to emphasize the stylistic unity of the front and rear parts of the car. The car has acquired a more aggressive and serious look. But the recognizability of the Terrano II model is ensured by the characteristic, with a smooth step, the rise of the lower border of the side windows. Because of this, the car seems higher and it seems that the rear passengers are very well protected by a steel shell. The side windows of the Terrano II are now coated with a so-called hydrophobic coating that reduces the contact patch with water droplets. The drops become smaller, and thanks to this, during the rain, the glass remains completely transparent.

At the heart of the load-bearing structure of Terrano II is a supporting frame. The suspension of the Terrano II is very short-stroke for an SUV and is therefore tightly adjusted, which, when passing through serious irregularities (like a railway crossing), responds with a blow to the body. There were new gas-filled shock absorbers, which had a positive effect on comfort, and the tires of the previous dimension 235/75 R15 gave way to 16-inch: 235/70 R16. In normal transport mode Nissan Terrano II and V the car is rear-wheel drive. If you pull the transfer lever towards you, the front axle will turn on (this operation is recommended to be performed at a speed of no more than 40 km / h).

The interior design has been completely redesigned. The center console has changed slightly. The new instrument panel is simple, readings of the main instruments are perceived perfectly, and secondary trifles do not distract attention. The liquid crystal display, located above the fuel and coolant gauges, in addition to being an odometer and clock, gives the driver information about the temperature overboard. Options received their own names: Elegance, Luxury, Sport and Comfort. Comfort is the most modest equipment, and Elegance is a luxury equipment. The installed equipment includes an audio system with six speakers.

Since 1999 on Nissan Terrano II install and automatic transmission. As before, the model is offered with either a 116-horsepower four-cylinder petrol engine or a 125-horsepower four-cylinder turbodiesel. With. In Europe, diesel Terrano IIs are more favored (besides, only diesel cars can be equipped with automatic transmissions). Nissan Terrano II is the winner of the 1999 Grenada-Dakkar Rally in the DI diesel class.

Safety is achieved by increasing braking efficiency. The ABS system is improved by the installation of non-locking brakes designed specifically for off-road conditions. In addition to the four sensors on the wheels, there is a special sensor that monitors the rate of deceleration on high or low grip surfaces (ice or snow) and turns off at speeds below 8 km/h. In addition to increasing the diameter of the rear brake discs, Terrano II now uses an electronic brake force distribution system (EBD, Electronic Brake Distribution), which ultimately made it possible to reduce the braking distance by 8.2 m when stopping from 100 km / h.

In the spring of 2002, another modernization of Terrano II took place. Updated exterior and interior, powerful 3.0L direct injection turbodiesel engine. proven on the Nissan Patrol GR, and best-in-class safety features make the Terrano the perfect multi-purpose SUV for families on the move.

The updated appearance of the car emphasizes the aggressive nature of this SUV. The main change to the exterior is a new bonnet design with a clearly defined intercooler intake designed specifically for the larger 3.0L engine. This design emphasizes, on the one hand, the individuality of the Terrano, and on the other hand, reflects the style of the entire SUV class of the Nissan family. The radiator grille is combined with the headlights, which creates an individual look and V of the car. New 16-inch 6-spoke light alloy wheels, combined with the practical hard spare wheel cover found on most trim levels, add even more individuality to the design of the new Terrano. Significantly expanded color gamut added four new body color options.

Updated interior with new door panels, redesigned instrument panel and console, as well as an improved shape of the seats. Thanks to new finishing materials, the appearance of the center console and instrument panel has been changed. The dashboard is made with the latest design developments, all controls are located within 30 degrees from the driver's line of sight, which makes it easy to keep them in sight. The driver and front passenger will surely benefit from the new shape of the seats, which have a 25mm longer front cushion and a redesigned seatback frame for a more comfortable ride. For greater comfort, seats and doors in all trim levels from Sport to Elegance received high-strength upholstery materials. The high position of the driver's seat provides excellent visibility. All door switches have been redesigned for maximum ease of use. Another practical improvement has appeared in the rear part of the V car, the luggage compartment is now covered by an easily removable shelf made of a fairly rigid material, on which you can put a load weighing up to 5 kg. To reduce the penetration of ultraviolet rays into the cabin, a special coating is applied to all glass. It also helps keep the cabin cool, even in hot weather. In addition, to maintain the optimum temperature in the cabin, the air conditioning system has been improved. Depending on vehicle equipment, in addition to the 6-speaker audio system, a CD player can be located in the center console. The latest version of Nissan's anti-theft system is combined with an anti-hijack system (the first time you press the remote door lock button, only the driver's door opens, and when you press it again, all other doors). After the key is inserted into the ignition lock, the unique codes of the key and the immobilizer are checked for their compliance, only after that the engine can be started.

The emergence of a new engine with a volume of 3.0 liters. along with the already existing 2.7-liter turbodiesel engine. and a 2.4 liter petrol engine. significantly improves the position of Nissan in the class of all-wheel drive and V cars. The entire range of engines will be available for both 3-door and 5-door models. ZD30 is a new generation of engines with direct injection system, gas distribution mechanism with two overhead camshafts and 16 valves. This engine design, combined with the unique M-Fire (managed combustion) combustion technology, results in improved fuel economy and increased power. Vehicles with a 3.0 liter turbodiesel engine are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic with a torque converter lock-up in top gear for greater fuel economy on long trips.

The suspension of the new Terrano has been adapted to the 3.0 liter engine for off-road driving. Thanks to the improvement of the transmission, mode selection can be made at any speed. To enhance off-road performance, the Terrano is equipped with a limited-slip differential, which ensures movement even in the case of diagonal suspension. In addition to the familiar active safety features such as ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) and EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution), the Terrano is the first in its class to offer side airbags in combination with active head restraints to provide passengers with the highest level of safety. In the event of an impact, the head restraints move forward and upward to reduce the risk of injury to the cervical vertebrae. 14-liter side airbags are standard on Luxury and Elegance trims, and are optional on other trim levels. The seat belts are equipped with pretensioners that deploy simultaneously with the front airbags. Together with the inertial belt reel, the pretensioner provides additional tension to the seat belt webbing, holding the body of the driver or passenger in the event of a frontal impact.

In April 2004, a restyled modification of the SUV 2004 appeared in Russia. Nissan Terrano II. The changes affected the appearance and interior of the car. Now 17-inch alloy wheels are put on a V car. There are three new exterior colors (Roma Red, Tickford Green and Techno Grey).

The new interior of the 2004 Nissan Terrano II is done in dark gray tones. In the Luxury version, a titanium-look center console appeared, and in the Elegance version, you can now order seat trim in black perforated leather. In addition, folding tables for rear passengers are installed on both trim levels in the long-wheelbase versions.

Together with the inertial belt reel, the pretensioner provides additional tension to the seat belt webbing, holding the body of the driver or passenger in the event of a frontal impact.

In April 2004, a restyled modification of the SUV appeared in Russia - 2004 Nissan Terrano II. The changes affected the appearance and interior of the car. Now 17-inch alloy wheels are put on the AW car. There are three new exterior colors (Roma Red, Tickford Green and Techno Grey).

The new interior of the 2004 Nissan Terrano II is done in dark gray tones. In the Luxury version, a titanium-look center console appeared, and in the Elegance version, you can now order the seat trim in black perforated leather. In addition, folding tables for rear passengers are installed on both trim levels in the long-wheelbase versions.

OPERATING EXPERIENCE OF "NISSAN-TERRANO"
Andrey SIDOROV
Driving #4 1998

Model - "Nissan Terrano"; manufacturer - "Nissan"; year of issue - 1990; in operation "Behind the wheel" - since September 1997; mileage at the time of the report - 50 thousand km on the counter (actual, probably much more).

Six months have passed since the Japanese "emigrant" changed the mild climate of his homeland for the harsh living conditions in Russia. Knowing that they are greeted by clothes, and the first impressions are the strongest, the former owner took care of the warm welcome of his faithful friend in a foreign land - he conducted the appropriate pre-sale preparation. The main attention, of course, is the appearance of the AW car. Scratches and chipped paint, fortunately, they are few, masterfully retouched with modern AW cosmetics, and the entire body is covered with a layer of varnish. Only minor inclusions of sand and dust in it suggest that the coating is not factory-made, but hastily done on its own. It is possible, of course, that our Far Eastern "dealer", which sells used cars, varnished. Costs are minimal, and revenue is significantly higher.
Today, when the first enthusiasm for driving a real jeep subsided, we can draw some conclusions.

Like any good AW car, you get used to the "Terrano" literally in the first hundreds of meters of movement. The impression is as if all his life only on it and went. It doesn't matter if the steering wheel is on the right. Talk about the fact that its location in right-hand traffic increases the likelihood of an accident, as it seemed to us, was far-fetched by the domestic AW top industry in order to somehow protect the market from Japanese expansion. In fact, you didn’t have to get used to the entrance on the right - you just ride in the passenger’s seat, unless you can’t take a nap.

The rest of the labor costs are the same. Moderately light power steering does not try to escape from the hands even on full-scale potholes. They are easily handled by the suspension, which has two stiffness modes: sporty for fast driving and normal for normal driving. In the first case, the car is noticeably stiffer and does not roll in corners at high speed. In the second - smoothly "licks" the bumps. Switching modes is electric - with a button near the selector lever AW of the automatic transmission.
The latter has several fixed positions, common to all box-AW tomatoes. "P" (park) - parking with the transmission brake on, "R" (reverse) - reverse, "N" (neutral) and "D" (drive) - movement with AW automatic gear selection; "1" and "2" - modes for heavy roads. Position "1" allows you to move only in first gear, "2" - in first or second. Using them, you can avoid unpleasant jerks in the transmission off-road.

The transfer case control lever is located next to the gearbox selector. He also has several positions: "2N" - the rear axle works, in the "razdatka" overdrive; "4Н" - the same, but the front axle is also included; "4L" - both bridges and demultiplier. Well, "N" is neutral. Such a wide range of adjustment of traction, or, "tractor-like" force on the hook, is more than sufficient. You can implement it, except towing a medium-sized truck.

Another nice feature of the selected transmission scheme is that in the "2H" position, the front axle is completely disabled. Unlike the well-known UAZ, where for this you need to remove the hub caps and manually open the clutches with a wrench, on the Terrano they are AW tomato. That is, they turn on only under load, and without it they do not spin the front axle transmission in vain.

The reverse side of the coin is that it is almost impossible to rock the car in the mud, alternately including first and reverse gears. Firstly, the front axle engages with a noticeable delay, and secondly, the gearbox torque converter is not as fast as a rigid mechanical link in conventional boxes. This smallness is not enough to get into resonance. However, you still need to be able to plant a car like that.
We advise those who like to conquer off-road to carry a shovel with them. The real, "Stakhanovite" - after all, in which case half measures are not enough, it will take a long time to dig. ... Or not to take any - without it it is better to think and there will be no desire to tempt fate.

But back to the asphalt, where the AW car still spends most of its life. On it, the behavior of "Terrano" causes only positive emotions. Describing them is like explaining to a native the taste of ice cream, for example.

This is exactly the case when it is better to try once than to see a hundred times. The trip after the "Terrano" in the UAZ is no less impressive than the race on the excavator.

Unfortunately, there are few freebies. In our case, the fee is a rather high gas mileage. With careful and leisurely (up to 90 km / h) driving on the highway, you can keep within 12 liters per "hundred", in the city there is barely enough 16, and if you start from each intersection as if it were the last time, sometimes such a crazy driving style for some reason called sports, then 20 liters will be quite on the shoulder.

But even our analogue, UAZ, with much more modest consumption opportunities, is by no means an ascetic. Well, probably, Emelin's stove was and will remain the ideal AW car. She moved, catching the biocurrents of the brain, and provided the proper comfort. Let's see how close to this "Terrano".

It is spacious for everyone except the driver, or rather, his legs. All sorts of adjustments to the backrest and seat cushions do not save either. A man of average height behind the wheel has to stretch his neck, as on the "Zaporozhets", otherwise the nose of the "dreadnought" is not visible, and it is very uncomfortable on the roads. The tall one has nowhere to put his feet. The pedals are too close, and after an hour of movement you catch yourself thinking that you should go out and stretch. The adjustable tilt steering column does not help either.

The Momo's small, leather-wrapped steering wheel has one insidious flaw - the horn button. It is about the size of a button and recessed into the hub. It is impossible to get into it with a finger in an emergency without training. A palm too - deeply sits. In addition, the button sometimes sticks. And not immediately after use, but after a few hours. The algorithm is as follows: if you “beep” at least once during the day, then at night, be sure, you will jump up on alarm and run to the car to pick it out. The blaring of a signal will wake the dead, not to mention the housemate holding a brick on the balcony for such an occasion.

The rest of the "features" against the background of this fun - mere trifles. Think ashtray. It is located under the air deflector of the heating and ventilation system. With some positions of the airflow direction lever, it is impossible to bring the ashes to the designated place. The air flow picks up and takes it anywhere, but the always clean ashtray can be used as a small change box.

With the onset of cold weather, we noticed that in the outside air intake mode, you can’t wait for heat from the “stove”. With internal circulation, it blows perfectly. The reason for this was the air intakes clogged with foliage, seeds, poplar fluff since autumn. After cleaning them, the air went fine.

Of the ventilation grilles at the bottom of the doors, on the contrary, it always "siphons". In the cold, I had to choose: either seal them with tape, or put on cotton pants. We chose the first one, since then our feet have not been cold.

There are other ventilation issues as well. Under the mats of the front passenger and driver in winter is always damp. Therefore, sometimes you have to lift them up to dry them with a stream of air from the "stove". The same story with the trunk. Under his carpet, pasted on a waterproof base, condensation accumulates. Especially intense near the back door. Rust has already appeared in places. To stop it, they treated the floor with "Movil" and placed plastic gratings - now it's dry.

The rear light vents open into the passenger compartment, from where warm air enters them. In the summer, of course, it is convenient. Neither rain nor splashes are terrible. But in winter, the insides of the lanterns sweat and condensate gradually accumulates. True, there are no traces of corrosion yet, but for how long? Coating the holes with building sealant somewhat reduced the dew, but did not completely solve the problem. Apparently, we will have to look for another way out.

And a few more features of winter operation. After a snowy night, before you open the door, you have to sweep snow from the roof, because the upper part of the door forms a horizontal platform with the roof. Otherwise, the snowdrift will inevitably fall on the seat. Therefore, leaving the car, we always take a broom with us as a personal weapon.

The windshield brushes in the snow very quickly become covered with a crust of ice and only smear the dirt. There is no supply of warm air from under the hood to them. It's time to stop and bite the ice with your teeth. Let's face it, it's not tasty. The design of the rear door brush is very successful. In the initial position, it stands on a special stop-step and does not touch the glass, which means it does not freeze. However, it is rarely used. A simple deflector on the roof deflects the air flow so that the glass is always clean. But only if the rear mudguards are in place. You tear them off and no deflector will save - the glass and the spare tire are instantly covered with dirt.

Powerful water jets keep the headlights clean. Jets from them knock down even clods of dried mud. Very convenient - no need to jump out in the rain or thaw and wipe the headlights by hand.

The situation is worse with winter washing. Porous door seals absorb water and freeze to openings. If the car is not dried immediately, it is problematic to open the door. As a rule, the seal breaks out of the plastic holders on the doors and remains where it is frozen. Just as insidious and door locks. Once, after washing and "freezing", I had to steam them with boiling water from a kettle. For the future, they learned lessons and impregnated the locks and "gum" with water-repellent WD-40 grease. She also processed the latch and the gas tank hatch - it also sometimes froze.

The rest of the winter did not deliver any trouble. The engine starts easily in any frost, as long as the battery is enough for three or four turns. The one that was on the car, apparently, "summer", the size of a loaf of bread, and the engine started up on its last breath. But even with this they overwintered successfully. Summer ahead. About what it will bring us, we will definitely tell on the pages of the magazine.

Nissan Terrano is a cross-country vehicle produced with a 3 or 5-door body.

The first generation Nissan Terrano (WD21) was demonstrated in 1986. It was assembled in Japan and also in America (like the Nissan Pathfinder). At first, only a 3-door version was produced, later in 1990 the 5-door Terrano-I rolled off the assembly line.

Nissan Terrano was equipped with various powertrains. Z24 - four-cylinder gasoline 2.4-liter 103-horsepower engine (1987-1992). Since 1988, a gasoline 3-liter 6-cylinder VG30 power unit has been produced. Its power was equal to 130 "horses". Less popular was the 2.7-liter 99-horsepower TD27T engine.

Nissan Terrano was equipped with a part-time all-wheel drive transmission. In normal mode, the car has a rear-wheel drive, if necessary, the front wheels are connected. Only a manual five-speed gearbox acts as a transmission. Some versions had a four speed automatic transmission. Gasoline consumption in the city was 16 liters per hundred.

The brake system is 2-circuit, equipped with a vacuum booster. Front brakes - ventilated disc, rear - drum or ventilated disc. The reliability and efficiency of the entire brake system is quite high.

The second generation Nissan Terrano came out in 1993. The novelty was developed jointly with the Ford concern.

At first, a version equipped with a short base (2.45 m) and a 3-door body with overall dimensions of 4105x1735x1800 mm came off the assembly line. Later, a five-door version began to be produced, which was lengthened to 2.65 meters with dimensions of 4585x1733x1810 mm. The disadvantage of the second generation Nissan Terrano in the 3-door version is a small luggage compartment with a volume of 425 liters and an uncomfortable fit in the rear seat. The 5-door wagon is devoid of these disadvantages - the trunk volume is 1900 liters, some versions have a third row of seats.

Nissan Terrano II 1993-1995 equipped with only 2 variants of a four-cylinder in-line engine. The first is a 2.7-liter 99-horsepower turbo diesel, the second is an injection gasoline 12-valve 2.4-liter 124-horsepower engine. Until 1995, the second generation Terrano was equipped with only a mechanical 5-speed transmission.

In the summer of 1996, the car was upgraded. The 2.7-liter turbo diesel began to be equipped with electronic injection and intercooling of the air, due to which the engine power increased to 125 “horses”. The 2.4-liter gasoline unit on the 3-door version has a power of 116 hp, on the 5-door - 118.

In 1999, an improved Nissan Terrano model was demonstrated.

Starting this year, Nissan Terrano II is equipped with an automatic transmission. The model is offered with either a 4-cylinder 116-horsepower petrol engine or a 4-cylinder 125-horsepower turbo diesel engine.

In 2002, Terrano II underwent another upgrade. Updated exteriors and interiors, a powerful 3.0-litre direct-injection turbo diesel and a better safety package make the Nissan Terrano the ideal multi-functional SUV for active families.

The introduction of a new 3.0-litre power unit, along with the existing 2.7-litre turbo diesel and 2.4-litre petrol engine, significantly improves Nissan's position in the all-wheel drive class. The entire range of powertrains is available for both 3-door and 5-door versions.

The suspension of the updated Nissan Terrano is adapted to a three-liter power unit, taking into account off-road driving. Due to the improved transmission, the mode can be selected at any speed. Side airbags with a volume of fourteen liters are included in the basic package of Elegance and Luxury. The seat belts have pretensioners that simultaneously actuate with the front airbags.

In the spring of 2004, a restyled version of the SUV appeared in the Russian Federation - Nissan Terrano II 2004. The appearance and interior of the car underwent changes. Now Terrano is equipped with seventeen inch alloy wheels. There are 3 new colors: Roma Red (red), Tickford Green (green) and Techno Gray (gray).

The new interior of Nissan Terrano II 2004 is executed in a dark gray tone. The Luxury version began to be equipped with a titanium look center console, the Elegance version can be equipped with seats trimmed with perforated black leather. And also both configurations in long-wheelbase modifications are equipped with folding tables for passengers seated at the back.

History of Nissan Terrano / Nissan Terrano

Nissan Terrano is an off-road vehicle with a three- or five-door body.

The first generation of Nissan Terrano compact SUVs in the back of the WD21 debuted in August 1986.

The three-door station wagon model was partially unified with Navara 1.0-ton pickups with a four-seat one-and-a-half (King-size) and a twin six-seat cab. A five-seater all-wheel drive car on a powerful spar frame, characterized by high strength and good corrosion resistance, with a two-stage transfer case and a rear differential lock, fully meets modern concepts of SUVs. The front axle is connected with a delay, but it is equipped with disconnectable automatic clutches built into the wheel hubs, so the transition to the rear-wheel drive "highway" state does not take much time and saves quite a lot of fuel. The suspension has two levels of stiffness: sporty, when the body rolls less in corners, and comfortable, when the long-stroke suspension does not seem to notice all the bumps in the road surface.

Interior design is rustic, but quite ergonomic. The instrument panel is in a rectangular style typical of the "Japanese" of the mid-1980s, a small casing rises above the middle part of the panel, combining the transverse and longitudinal inclinometers and an altimeter completely useless on flat terrain. All devices are clearly visible, and all levers (including the transfer case control lever) are easily accessible. And yet, you should not overestimate the capabilities of the car in this regard, since the center of gravity due to the frame structure is quite high. Depending on the version, both narrow and wide wheels were installed on the Nissan Terrano / Pathfinder, which greatly affects handling.

Z24 - a 2.4-liter gasoline 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 103 hp, with a timing chain drive and two candles per cylinder - was produced from 1987 to 1992. Models with single injection went to the European market (while markets of third countries and in the USA there were also carburetor versions with a slightly modified ignition system). From the 88th year, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine with a timing belt drive -VG30 (which subsequently won the greatest popularity) began to be produced.

In the rear axle of most cars there is a limited slip differential - LSD, which in difficult road conditions slightly increases the patency.

The new model is a joint development with Ford, created by the Nissan technology center in Barcelona (Spain), as well as its twin Ford Maverick. They belonged to the class of compact SUVs fashionable in the early 90s, only the Terrano II was designed for Europe. The design of the car was developed by the Belgian stylist Alain Blonet.

The five-door station wagon is deprived of these disadvantages - the trunk has increased to 1900 liters, and on some versions a third row of seats was installed in it.

Terrano II is a rather tall car, and this has its advantages: a spacious interior with a high ceiling and a large glass area.

The first of them is a 2.7-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 99 hp, and the second is a 2.4-liter petrol injection 12-valve engine with a capacity of 124 hp.

In July 1996, the car was upgraded. The 2.4-litre petrol engine on the three-door Terrano makes 116 hp and the longer five-door 118 hp. The serial equipment included an airbag for the driver and an electronic anti-theft device. ABS as an optional extra.

In 1999, a new improved model was introduced in Frankfurt. The front of the body has become wider and more powerful thanks to the new grille and powerful bumper, which make the Nissan Terrano related to the flagship Nissan Patrol GR. The headlights with improved light indicators are assembled into a single unit (the low beam light beam has become 40% wider, and its “range” has increased by 22%).

The load-bearing structure of Terrano II is based on a supporting frame. In the normal, "transport" mode, the Nissan Terrano II is rear-wheel drive. If you pull the “distributing” lever towards you, the front axle will turn on (this operation is recommended to be performed at a speed of no more than 40 km / h).

Since 1999, an automatic transmission has been installed on the Nissan Terrano II.

Updated looks and interiors, a powerful 3.0L direct-injection turbodiesel engine proven in the Nissan Patrol GR, and best-in-class safety features make the Terrano the perfect multi-purpose SUV for families on the move.

The updated appearance of the car emphasizes the aggressive nature of this SUV. The main change in appearance is a new hood design with a clearly defined intercooler air intake, designed specifically for the larger 3.0-liter engine. This design emphasizes, on the one hand, the individuality of the Terrano, and on the other hand, reflects the style of the entire SUV class of the Nissan family. The radiator grille is combined with the headlights, which creates an individual look for the car. New 16-inch 6-spoke light alloy wheels, combined with the practical hard spare wheel cover found on most trim levels, add even more individuality to the design of the new Terrano. The range of colors has been significantly expanded - four new body color options have been added.

Updated interior - new door panels, modified instrument panel and console, as well as an improved shape of the seats. Another practical improvement appeared in the rear of the car - the luggage compartment is now covered by an easily removable shelf made of a fairly rigid material, on which you can put a load weighing up to 5 kg. To reduce the penetration of ultraviolet rays into the cabin, a special coating is applied to all glass. It also helps keep the cabin cool, even in hot weather. In addition, to maintain the optimum temperature in the cabin, the air conditioning system has been improved. Depending on the vehicle's equipment, in addition to the 6-speaker audio system, a CD player may be located in the center console.

The emergence of a new engine with a volume of 3.0 liters. along with the already existing 2.7-liter turbodiesel engine. and a 2.4 liter petrol engine. significantly improves Nissan's position in the all-wheel drive class.

In April 2004, a restyled modification of the SUV appeared in Russia - 2004 Nissan Terrano II. The changes affected the appearance and interior of the car. Now the car is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Nissan Terrano 2014 is the most budget crossover in the Nissan lineup, and is also a twin brother and co-platform of the Renault Duster. This model, although it bears the legendary name under which two generations of the Nissan Pathfinder were sold in some countries, is in fact a completely independent model. For Russia, Terrano 2014 has been produced at Avtoframos since November 2013.

The exterior dimensions of the Terrano 2014 body are: 4342 mm long, 1822 mm (with rear-view mirrors 2000 mm) wide, 1668 mm high, with a 2674 mm wheelbase and 205 mm (210 mm for all-wheel drive versions) ground clearance . The gross vehicle weight is 1726 kg.

The crossover is shod in tires with a dimension of 215 / 65R16, depending on the level of configuration, steel or alloy wheels, a full-size spare tire, a 50-liter fuel tank, a washer reservoir designed for 5 liters of liquid, steel crankcase protection is installed as standard.

The front of the Nissan Terrano 2014 is designed in the corporate style of a Japanese company with large blocks of headlights, a false radiator grille with V-shaped inserts, a stylish and solid bumper with a wide air intake, and classic round foglights. The Terrano profile is characterized by powerful front and rear wheel arches, almost straight lines of the roof and window sill, and a large area of side glazing. In order to achieve a more contrasting design, the roof pillars are finished in "radical black" color. The stern of the crossover received large lamps of overall lighting equipment, located not only on vertical racks, but also partially on the plane of the luggage compartment lid. Complementing the picture is an updated bumper with a new arrangement of reflectors and a triangular license plate platform topped with a wide chrome plate.

The 2014 Terrano's 2014 exterior paint finish is available in six finishes: Ice White, Grey, Silver, Beige, Blue and Black.

The interior design of the Terrano 2014 in terms of the architecture of the front panel, center console, door cards and the whole internal world repeats the decoration of the Renault Duster twin brother. But the interior of the Japanese crossover is more modern and solid than that of the French SUV with Romanian roots.

The dashboard is a classic set - a tachometer, a speedometer, an on-board computer screen. On the vertical wall of the center console there are control units for the audio system, the air conditioning and heating system, a little lower (for all-wheel drive versions) the control knob for the All Mode 4X4 all-wheel drive system, at the top of the dashboard there is a convenient box with a lid for storing small items. All controls are at hand and easy to use, except, perhaps, the mirror adjustment unit, which is located under the handbrake lever.

The salon is fully five-seater and allows you to comfortably accommodate the driver and passenger in the first row and three adult passengers on the second row sofa. The rear seatbacks fold 40/60. The minimum trunk volume is 475 liters in the front-wheel drive version and 408 liters in the all-wheel drive version. If you fold the rear row of seats, then the useful volume will increase, respectively, to the levels of 1636 and 1570 liters. Well, with the backrest of the front passenger seat folded down, it will be possible to transport long items up to 2.65 meters long.

Since the Terrano 2014 is based on the Renault Duster chassis, the suspension characteristics of both cars are the same, with the exception of some tweaks made by the Japanese in order to improve the smoothness of the ride. Front load-bearing body Nissan Terrano relies on a standard independent design with MacPherson struts and anti-roll bar. The rear part of the body rests on a semi-independent torsion beam in front-wheel drive versions and on a multi-link system with coil springs in versions with all-wheel drive. The 4WD system itself (All Mode 4 × 4) is based on a scheme typical for budget crossovers with an electromagnetic multi-plate clutch that connects the rear axle in the event of a slip of the front wheels. The braking system of the crossover includes front disc mechanisms and rear drum mechanisms.

The initial configuration of the Nissan Terrano Comfort has body-colored bumpers, two front airbags, central locking with remote control, ABS + EBD, EBA (emergency braking) and ESP (stabilization system), air conditioning, ISOFIX child seat mounts, power windows front, 12V socket on the console, audio system with 4 speakers (MP3 / CD, Bluetooth, USB and AUX), steering column height adjustment, power steering, steel protection of the engine compartment.

The top-of-the-line Tekna version adds side airbags, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, heated front seats, power windows for the rear doors, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, a Nissan Connect infotainment system with a 5-inch color touch screen, 16-inch alloy rims, moldings and mirror housings painted in the main body color, tinted rear windows, foglights and roof rails.

The engine range available for the 2014 Nissan Terrano almost completely coincides with the line of Duster engines. The difference lies only in the absence of a diesel engine, and two gasoline units have completely migrated from under the hood of the Frenchman. As a base, buyers will be offered a 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.6 liters (1598 cm3), which is equipped with multiport fuel injection, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and fully complies with the Euro-4 environmental standard. The maximum power of this motor is 102 hp, and the peak torque falls at around 145 Nm.

The engine is aggregated either with a 5-speed “mechanics” in front-wheel drive versions, or with a 6-speed “mechanics” in an all-wheel drive version. In the first case, the crossover will be able to dial the first 100 km / h on the speedometer in 11.8 seconds, or accelerate to 163 km / h of maximum speed. In the second case, the dynamics will noticeably worsen: acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h will be 13.5 seconds, and the “maximum speed” will drop to 158 km / h. As for fuel consumption, the front-wheel drive Nissan Terrano with a junior engine eats about 7.6 liters in the combined cycle, and the all-wheel drive - 8.2 liters.

The top engine for the crossover was also a 4-cylinder power unit, but with a working volume of 2.0 liters (1998 cm3). The engine fits into the Euro-4 standard, is equipped with a 16-valve DOHC timing, a multiport fuel injection system and is capable of producing 135 hp. maximum power, as well as deliver up to 191 Nm of torque. The front-wheel drive Nissan Terrano 2014 with this engine will receive a 4-band “automatic” as a gearbox, but all-wheel drive modifications will be equipped with a 6-speed “mechanics”. In the first case, the acceleration of the crossover from 0 to 100 km / h will take no more than 11.2 seconds, but the second will completely fit in 10.4 seconds. The upper speed threshold will be 168 and 177 km/h, respectively. As for gasoline consumption, in mixed mode, the front-wheel drive version of the Terrano will eat 8.3 liters, and the all-wheel drive version will be limited to 7.8 liters.

The first generation of the Nissan Terrano SUV debuted in 1986. The car was sold in Japan, Europe, and some other regions, and in the American market this model was known under the name. The Terrano had a frame structure, a dependent rear suspension and a hard-wired all-wheel drive.

Initially, cars were offered only with a three-door body, but in 1991 the SUV also had a five-door version. Nissan Terrano was equipped with a 2.7-liter diesel engine (85 or 100 hp), as well as a V6 3.0 gasoline engine with 155 horsepower. Gearboxes - mechanical or automatic, four-speed.

2nd generation, 1996–2004

The design of the second-generation SUV has changed radically: now it had a load-bearing body instead of a frame, an automatic all-wheel drive system was offered as an option, and there was also a purely rear-wheel drive version in the lineup. Nissan Terrano was offered only with a five-door body, in 2000 the model was restyled.

The range of power units consisted of 2.7, 3.0 and 3.2 diesel engines (130–170 hp), the only gasoline engine, a 3.3-liter V6, developed 170 forces. Gearboxes - a five-speed "mechanics" or a four-speed "automatic".

In the American market, the SUV was still called. Also, a more “luxury” version of the car appeared in the model (in America -). And in Europe, a completely different SUV was sold in parallel under a similar name.
