Lada x ray who needs it. Five things for which love and hate Lada Xray

Lada x ray who needs it. Five things for which love and hate Lada Xray

26.07.2023

For the first time, we conducted a small test in December 2015, then we came across a car with “mechanics” and a Nissan 110-horsepower engine, which, by the way, is no longer in the “raised hatchback” engine range. After a month and a half, we evaluated, then analyzed in detail the features and, and also compared this car with competitors in person and in absentia. However, now it is much more interesting to look at the opinions of people who own X-Ray for more or less long time.

Hate #5: Tight pedal assembly

It’s hard to blame anyone, and the author of these lines, for being overly critical of the products of the Volga Automobile Plant, but even he whined here - and now we see that it’s not unreasonable: quite often the owners call this feature among the minuses of the car. The pedal assembly, according to the AVTOVAZ designers, simply transferred to X-Ray from its French relatives on the platform, is perceived quite cramped, especially in the area of the gas and brake pedals. In winter shoes of large sizes, it is not difficult to mix up the pedals. It is especially sad that AVTOVAZ will not finalize the design - unification.

Love #5: Good noise isolation

But this is an unequivocal reason for pride for VAZ workers. It is difficult to say whether the Russian side turned out to be great when developing the car, or whether this is again the fruit of a collaboration with the Franco-Japanese alliance, but there are very few of those who scold the "Shumka" on the X-Ray, and even they stipulate that it depends on with whom to compare it. Everyone else is commendable. And we agree with them: in terms of vibroacoustics, you feel more comfortable in a VAZ hatch than in other cars twice as expensive.

Hate #4: Wide A-pillars - Poor Visibility

Of course, the wide racks themselves cannot be called the main disadvantage - this is just a tribute to modern safety requirements. And a big obstacle to visibility (in the literal sense) is not always a wide stance - often a negative factor is the small dimensions of the body and, as a result, the proximity of the struts to the driver. Unfortunately, this is exactly the case of X-Ray - a forward view that could be better, some users note. However, we must also mention the fact that a lot here is decided by the landing of the driver. So - only the fourth place in the rating of hatred.

Love #4: Good suspension

The suspension, which X-Ray got from a relative of the Sandero Stepway, was initially well suited for Russian conditions, but as part of the adaptation to the Russian brand, it was also finalized - it became a little more assembled, without losing energy intensity. And the consumer appreciated it: praise for the suspension is perhaps the most frequently mentioned plus of this car.

Hate #3: Cramped Cabin

The tightness of the X-Ray interior is felt especially strongly after Vesta, and no matter how the VAZ marketers beg not to compare these cars, these comparisons cannot be avoided. Changing behind the wheel of a hatch, you feel how narrow the cabin is. But consumers, oddly enough, are often not worried about this, but the tightness in the rear of the cabin, which we also noted - in the knees, almost with any growth, there is a lack of space. There really is no comparison with Vesta.

Love #3: high ground clearance

The clearance of the X-Ray is 195 mm, and even if the real figure, measured by engine protection, is 5 mm less, in real life the clearance is sufficient to overcome most urban obstacles. This plus is usually called in the same list with praise for the suspension and crying for all-wheel drive. And yes, thanks to all this, X-Ray in the eyes of the people is an “under-crossover”, but not as useless as many of its fellows by this nickname.

Hate #2: Few amenities in the cabin

Continuing the theme of the cabin: it is both cramped, and the plastic in it is somehow cheap - in general, the same claims are made to the X-Ray in this part as to many other relatively inexpensive cars. But in terms of the stinginess of amenities, the problem is more narrowly segmented - it seems that the car adopted this feature from "relatives", and who are not very generous with the little joys of life. The driver's armrest, rear interior lighting, steering wheel button illumination, cruise control, steering wheel heating, rear seat heating - this is what the X-Ray does not have. And what, according to the owners, he really lacks.

Love #2: good multimedia and sound

Yes, the interior of the X-Ray is literally made of compromises. Inconveniently located seat heating button? But the seat itself is quite comfortable. Not too expressive devices? But the steering wheel is comfortable to grip. But there is no multimedia control on it! But the multimedia itself is convenient, with good performance and a clear interface, with built-in good navigation, a clear rear-view camera and even a function for auto-correcting the volume depending on the speed. And the regular sound is also quite on the level - it will not suit only inveterate music lovers.

Hate #1: No AWD

In general, the reviews about this AVTOVAZ model are really very loyal so far, it’s even strange that libels about “basins” are so rare in relation to X-Ray - apparently, the “foreign” roots of the object are affecting. But almost half of the statements are supplied with a phrase like “he would still have a four-wheel drive”. AvtoVAZ is in no hurry to introduce it: firstly, there is still no clear understanding of what exactly this all-wheel drive will be on Xray Cross, and secondly, in fact, no more than a quarter of buyers will be ready to pay extra for 4x4. Much easier to recoup, say,.

Love #1: good design

Yes, in the series this car is not at all the one that was listed under the XRAY in 2012. However, it looks good, and even the wheels are bigger, due to the numerous aspirations of the consumer,. In part, of course, they endured it, fell in love, but now the design of this car is really much more often praised than any comments are made.

But X-Ray also had other disadvantages that eventually disappeared or somehow smoothed out - in addition to the named “too small” wheels, one can recall the impossibility of turning off the ESC, which is why the “under-crossover” on light sand turned into the eyes of many at all in "undercar". And it seems like a trifle, but for all trim levels from the fall of 2016.

But the most interesting thing in the two-year history of Lada Xray is that the model has not yet shown any special purely operational problems (except, perhaps, the squeak of brake pads, which are also typical for Vesta and Largus) - which “crawl out”, say,. Maybe it's just too early? Wait and see. But something can be said even now. Of course, X-Ray in some ways turned out to be not what they expected - not so awesome in design, without all-wheel drive and - and in this sense, of course, it is a compromise car. But the compromise turned out to be quite successful. And this, you see, is not so little.

It is not yet entirely clear whether the new AvtoVAZ project should be called successful. Lada XRAY is planned for 2016 with a circulation of 16,000 copies, and this plan will be fulfilled. The only question is whether this can be called a success for the legendary car, the first Russian modern SUV, an amazing bearer of the new style of the corporation. It is hardly worth talking about a breakthrough and growing popularity. So what's the problem with the car? In the press, transport received incredible reviews, became one of the best carriers of the glory of domestic design in the automotive industry. Experts unanimously speak about the advantages of the model and declare that the transport is in full compliance with the qualities and features of European and Japanese technology. Let's see why Russians don't line up in AvtoVAZ showrooms and buy Lada X-RAY like hot cakes. The question is rather delicate, and we ask you to take everything said below as journalistic reflections.

Every model produced by VAZ until today has had a whole bunch of problems. The latest generation of cars in the form of Vesta and XRAY has become somewhat more interesting. But the question is that the plant needs a real breakthrough to save the situation. If we are talking about the termination of state subsidies, then the company will simply cease to exist in a competitive and very complex market. Subsidies cannot continue for a long time, so we are talking about a real danger of domestic production of cars. And today we can safely say that Lada X-RAY has not become a lifeline for the company. It's just another generation that doesn't sell very well and just fulfills a modest plan. Let's see what are the main problems of this unusual Russian-made crossover.

Is it a Russian machine? This is a rhetorical question

Renault Sandero Stepway became a donor for the production of the first Russian crossover, and the owners of this car claim that it would be better if VAZ did not copy Renault. The Russian plant did not succeed in improving Sandero's performance, and the Russian company did not offer a very big benefit for the price. So the parent car remained the main competitor. From the Russian in the car, there is only a little engineering, but there is quite a lot of foreign:

  • design and platform came from France, the main owner of the company's shares, the Renault-Nissan alliance, today determines all the ways of development and work of the AvtoVAZ concern;
  • you can also recognize Renault in the interior, everything is ascetic and simple here, the materials are quite cheap, and comfort is overshadowed by minor interior flaws that are immediately visible;
  • many parts for a car are produced outside of Russia, so the localization of a Russian car is far from 100%, and this significantly affects the sale price of a car;
  • the motor was developed by European engineers, the 1.8-liter unit for 122 horses works more or less normally, but the old 1.6-liter engine is small;
  • the box for the older version is a Russian robot, also developed in collaboration with foreign companies, so far its work is rather skeptical.

Cooperation with Renault, Nissan, Datsun, as well as other corporations from Europe and Japan obviously does not bring much success to the Russian company. Many conservative patriots believe that it would be better to develop the existing lineup and completely stop dependence on foreign investors. This significantly increases the cost of machines and reduces the autonomy of the company in the market. And indeed it is.

Let's talk about the technical features of Lada X-RAY

As mentioned above, two engines are available for Lada. The first is a 1.6-liter power unit for the base model, which produces 106 horsepower and is equipped exclusively with a standard 5-speed manual. This is an acceptable equipment option, which is not so expensive, and does not bring any special problems. Next comes the 1.8-liter engine, which was first introduced on the Lada X-RAY in December 2015. The unit is equipped with mechanics, and this tandem still works more or less normally. But the new Russian robot is worthy of a whole list of criticisms:

  • even an expert with good driving experience cannot understand the rules of operation of this box, you have to get used to the car, and it’s better to do it at a training ground where there are no other cars;
  • the behavior of the robot is unpredictable, sometimes it pulls like crazy, sometimes it doesn’t go to the floor with the accelerator pedal at all, it all depends on the chosen moment of pressing the pedal;
  • breakdowns of the robotic box are not uncommon, this proves that the unit is rather crude, and in combination with the new engine it works very unsuccessfully and is extremely uncertain;
  • it is virtually impossible to drive in a traffic jam, it is extremely difficult to start slowly and control every movement, this makes the driver very tired;
  • it should also be noted completely inadequate work on the track, the engine can spin up to unrealistic speeds, with all its advantages, it shows a minimum of qualities.

With such a box, all the delights of a rather interesting 122-horse engine just go away. It seems that you are driving a car with a 60-horsepower unit, and in volume you have a maximum reserve of 1.2 liters. There is no traction, the car is extremely uncertain and unpredictable. All this makes the most expensive versions of Lada X-RAY unpleasant for buyers. However, these may be impressions after the first test. Perhaps one can get used to the behavior of the AMT box.

Operating experience - the main impressions

First of all, it is worth saying that many experts today recommend buying the X-RAY version with an older engine and mechanics. This is quite an adequate combination of qualities. But even in such a car, you will feel several important inconveniences. It seems that the car was developed very quickly and did not have time to test all the shortcomings of the technology. For comparison, it would be nice to drive the same Sandero and get a complete impression of the qualities of the car. So, the impressions from XRAY are as follows:

  • the suspension is not happy, it collects all the small bumps and diligently transfers them to the salon, the rattling of everything around starts to strain from the first minutes of the car trip;
  • the machine does not swallow larger pits at all, bouncing on any bumps and bumps, it seems that the wheels are pumped over (during the test they were checked several times);
  • feedback from the driver is simply great - you feel everything that happens on the road on the steering wheel, but it is so tiring that it is better not to go on a long journey;
  • in turns, especially in sharp ones, Lada gets up extremely reluctantly and with persuasion, so you don’t need to drive fast and dynamically, body roll in corners simply surprises with its amplitudes;
  • something constantly creaks and crackles in the cabin, there is an impression that the machine is simply assembled poorly, but this is not confirmed by a detailed examination of the interior.

There is no need to sin on the assembly, it is quite high-quality, but the reliability of operation remains rather doubtful. Not the most expensive materials were used in production, the technical sophistication of the machine suffers quite a lot. In comparison with the main competitors, of which there are not so many, the machine clearly does not become above all. It remains to talk about the configuration and remember those very few competitors that are sold more actively than Russian cars.

Options, prices and X-RAY competition in the market

In general, the base price of 589,000 rubles is not at all encouraging and is the main reason for poor sales. The machine simply cannot be operated normally when it comes to such serious troubles as high cost. But it’s worth recognizing that Lada constantly makes certain promotions and discounts. The price of top versions reaches sky-high 780,000 rubles, and this is not at all serious. But competitors also do not indulge in cheap solutions:

  • Renault Sandero Stepway - the main competitor and technical counterpart of the Russian model, is sold from 629,000 rubles and attracts a lot more buyers, a very confident and thoughtful machine with an excellent resource and classic design;
  • Renault Daster is another crossover from the French for 629,000 rubles with huge operational advantages, the machine deserves excellent reviews and has become a bestseller in its segment more than once;
  • Datsun mi-DO - even if it’s not a crossover, it’s also a fairly high hatchback with good settings and an excellent type of operation, the car costs only 492,000 rubles in the basic configuration (but inferior to Lada in all respects);
  • Brilliance V5 and a number of other Chinese crossovers in the price range of about 650-680 thousand rubles, all these solutions can become full-fledged SUVs in your garage with excellent features and trim levels.

As for the basic configuration of the XRAY itself, here you can talk for a long time and with compliments. Two airbags, child seat anchors, ABS and EBD, a switchable ESP system, hill start assist, central locking all add to safety. 16-inch alloy wheels fit perfectly into the design, there is an on-board computer and even a navigation system with very good parameters. So the equipment even in the base indulges with interesting features. We offer you to watch an independent test drive of a Lada car:

Summing up

It is impossible to say that Lada X-RAY is a completely unworthy car. This is a rather interesting transport with a very good idea, but not the best implementation. The company tried to save money where it was not necessary to do this, but in places with possible savings, on the contrary, it received a number of unpleasant costs. In general, everything happens about the same as it always happens with domestic cars. It should be noted that XRAY has so far become the last high-profile presentation of the company, for a whole year we have not heard any serious news and announcements about a possible replenishment of the model range.

Soon the world should see some epoch-making updates and reformations in the company's model line. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, because every day the fate of the life of the plant is decided. We cannot recommend Lada XRAY for purchase due to a huge number of not entirely clear features that do not allow you to safely operate vehicles. But let's be fair, that the machine was not so bad. Auto has great advantages in terms of the quality of some technical components, design and Russian origin, albeit not completely. What do you think about the newest car of the Russian company AvtoVAZ?

Reviews

Video review

The robot box is not the best option, I used to have a machine gun. On the rise, if it stops, the XRAY goes back, I turn on the handbrake all the time on the rise and move off the handbrake, otherwise I'm afraid to roll back and drive into the car behind me. At first, the car shook and jerked at low speed - I had a shock, but now it twitches very rarely.

Elina Volkova, review of the new Lada X Ray 1.8 with the 2016 AMT robot

In fact, Lada Khrey is a passenger car with high ground clearance. I read somewhere about a very narrow pedal assembly, but for my size 43 feet it is quite sufficient. The gas pedal is located just below the brake pedal, sometimes the boot welt can cling to it, but in order to press both of them at once (as someone wrote), you need to wear felt boots.

I like the transformation of the X Ray interior, it’s convenient that you can simply lower the back of the rear seat without lifting the sofa. The platform is not perfectly flat, but it is acceptable for carrying additional luggage.

The driving position is comfortable. The chair was raised to the maximum height in order to see the hood, this habit was transferred from the Six, where I put a special pillow under the fifth point. The ergonomics of the controls are acceptable. Notes include the device side mirrors. More precisely, these are the features that must be taken into account. The mirrors are slightly smaller than those of the Niva, but the view in them is large, because. they are slightly convex.

The 1.8 engine is much quieter than the Niva. And in general, the cabin is quiet when driving. The motor pulls: in 5th gear on a flat road, you can overtake at speeds from 80 to 100 km / h without switching lower. In general, as I already wrote, acceleration is much faster than on the Niva. At the same time, there are no hysterical howls of the transmission.

Nikolai Shishkin, review of Lada X-Ray 1.8 with mechanics in 2017

Where can I buy?

At the moment, I am satisfied with everything except the AMT robot — I went to it on the machine. When switching from first to second, the motor spins up to frantic speed - it's a pity for the engine. Further, at high speeds, the robot gets confused, thinks for a long time. When driving in traffic jams, you release the gas, and the car starts to twitch. I found a way out - I turn on neutral and calmly roll up to the front car or stop line. With slight slopes when starting off, the rollback system does not work - it strains.

My expansion tank blew. I called the salon where I bought the car, they told me - sign up for repairs, one by one. Wait a week, then the question is, how long will the repair itself take? You also have to pay for the tow truck yourself, and AvtoVAZ itself is responsible for returning the money. The question is, when will the money be returned? And will they return at all?
In general, I decided to change the tank myself. I asked for a tank, antifreeze - they gave everything without problems, they said that they knew about the problem. One nut, two clamps, 10 minutes of time - the problem is solved.

Nikolai Safronov, drives a Lada X Ray 1.8 (122 hp) on a 2016 robot.

For me personally, the appearance of the Lada X-RAY is something new and fresh, it turned out to be quite individual, it looks much more interesting live than in the photo. I rate the quality of body painting and assembly 4+ out of 5.

In the cabin, oak plastic is everywhere, but it looks good enough, as long as nothing creaks, does not rattle, it is easy to clean. The trunk is average, but with the seats folded down, it is quite roomy.

The radio tape recorder is simple and convenient — I immediately figured everything out. The air conditioning works well, the stove is not noisy. In heavy rain from fogging, you can’t cope without a conder.
Gearbox mechanics works well - no crunches and whistles.

The 1.6 engine is quite frisky. In terms of noise in the cabin, the X-ray is the quietest of all my former cars. I really like that the engine is chain. Everything is neat under the hood, I have already traveled through puddles and mud, cleanliness under the hood!

Review about the new Lada XRAY 1.6 manual transmission 2017

The landing is very comfortable ... In any case, I sit down with my 180 * 95 as I used to - walking and not falling into the opening ... Driver's seat lift with a large stroke: you sit high - you see far away, visibility is excellent.

The suspension also pleases - the machine seems to be the standard of controllability and clarity, no matter what kind of coating under the wheels. It is clear that it is too early to talk about this, but no squeaks and knocks during the passage, even ours after the winter road surprises.

In general, the sound insulation in the car is at the level - I can’t hear the engine, so much so that I have to peer into the tidy to understand whether I drowned it out or not. The armrest on the right is missing. It is bad that at least a couple of readings can not be displayed on the on-board computer at the same time. Only sequential enumeration - and the list is long. The back of the passenger seat cannot be folded forward, which limits the transportation of long items.

Alexey Mashtakov, review of Lada X Ray 1.8 (122 hp) AMT 2016

21.05.2018

Lada XRAY (Lada X-Ray) is the second after the revolutionary novelty from AvtoVAZ and is actually not such a Russian car. The fact is that the engines for this model were borrowed from Nissan, and the transmission from Renault. And in general, out of 1800 parts used in the car, only 500 of them are original, and the level of localization of the model is no more than 50%. Despite this, Lada XRAY, which debuted a couple of years ago on the domestic market, is already significantly ahead of its progenitor Renault Sandero Stepway, whose sales started much earlier, in terms of the number of sales. But why Lada is loved more than a foreign car now and let's try to figure it out.

Some facts

Officially, the start of sales of Lada XRAY was announced in February 2016. If you do not take into account the Lada Vesta SW Сross, this model is the most expensive car from Togliatti, but even this fact did not prevent it from becoming one of the leaders in sales among domestic cars - in 2017, more than 33,000 copies were sold in Russia alone. The hatchback was built on the B0 platform borrowed from the Renault-Nissan alliance. In addition to Lada XRAY and Sandero, such popular models as Logan, Duster and Captur are also based on it, despite this, outwardly the car does not have any similarities with its co-platformers.

The main advantages of Lada XRAY

The indisputable advantage of this car is its design, and although, as they say, "the taste and color ...", even people who are skeptical of the Russian car industry admit that Steve Mattin was 100% right with the style for this car (X-style). The car looks original and modern, and even more so against the background of the somewhat clumsy progenitor Sandero. Complex embossments on the sidewalls of the body and rare running lights in the segment, thanks to which Lada can be seen from afar in the stream, add chic. One can only guess about the relationship between XRAY and Sandero by looking into the cabin, since the cars have the same displays of the multimedia system and the on-board computer.

Despite the generally successful design, there is a part of the body that has received a lot of criticism not only from journalists, but also from motorists. Most of all, everyone does not like the car's feed because of the unsuccessful shape of the taillights. Summing up, we can state the fact that AvtoVAZ engineers realized that even for little money, the consumer wants to get a beautiful car, and not a shapeless “trough”.

— Clearance —

Also an important plus is the ground clearance of the car, which on standard tires is an impressive 195 mm. And although under the steel protection of the engine it is 5 mm smaller, all the same, such a clearance allows you to confidently move outside the side chapels of asphalt roads, and this is important for motorists in most CIS countries. Despite the impressive ground clearance and similarity to a crossover, a protective plastic body kit and all-wheel drive are not provided for the X-Ray, but you should not be upset, as a new XRAY Cross is expected on the market in the near future, which will be free from these shortcomings. It is still unknown how the characteristics of the car will change, but drawing an analogy with Vesta, which was raised by 25 mm with a similar upgrade, we can assume that the off-road capabilities of the new product will improve and it will become on a par with such compact crossovers as the Opel Mokka.

— Suspension —

The Lada XRAY suspension was borrowed from the related Sandero Stepway, which has proven itself well in our operating conditions, and after adapting to the Russian brand, it has become even more assembled without losing energy intensity. And the consumer appreciated it: praise for the suspension is perhaps the most frequently mentioned plus of this car.

— Equipment —

Also, the advantages of Lada XRAY over competitors include an impressive range of available options. Even though there is no air conditioning in the basic configuration, which, of course, is a significant disadvantage, it is well equipped in terms of safety. The base has a stabilization system, two airbags and an Era-Glonass system. More expensive configurations are equipped with navigation with a traffic jam function, a rear-view camera, albeit a single-zone one, but, nevertheless, climate control, cruise control with a speed limit function, 17-inch alloy wheels and illuminated entry / exit points in the doors. In an exclusive version, a background LED suspension of the interior and a combined seat upholstery made of eco-leather and Alcantara are installed.

I would also like to note a convenient multimedia system that has a clear interface and good performance, clear navigation and a fairly high-quality rear view camera. In addition, many consumers like the work of an audio system with an automatic sound correction function. Contributes to the sound quality of acoustics and a high level of sound insulation, which few owners dare to criticize. But, nevertheless, it is worth noting that Russian engineers still have something to work on in this direction.

— Price —

Another indisputable plus is a large selection of available trim levels and a sane price tag - the Lada XRAY price list includes 15 different modifications designed for any budget. So, for example, the poorest equipment with a 1.6 petrol aspirator (106 hp) and a manual gearbox will cost almost 8,500 USD. But for the top-end equipment with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine (122 hp) and a robotic transmission, you will have to pay almost 14,000 USD.

Pros according to owners:
  • Suspension: strong, informative, minimally heels, takes out of the rut
  • Quality brakes
  • High-torque power units
  • Decent soundproofing
  • Roomy trunk
  • Good cross-country ability due to impressive ground clearance and short overhangs
  • Fan-type washer nozzles
  • Convenient and modern multimedia system
  • Under the hood, units in the public domain
  • Maintenance is carried out every 15,000 km
  • Parktronic and reverse camera
  • Climate control: warm in winter, cool in summer

Minuses

As you know, there are no ideal cars, Lada XRAY also has its drawbacks, however, given the price, you can close your eyes to most of them, but there are also those that negatively affect not only driving performance, but also reliability. One of these is a robotic gearbox, complaints about which are left in abundance on the forums by the owners of this model and those who happened to drive cars with a VAZ AMT.

— Robotic transmission —

The main problem of this box is an indecently small clutch resource. The manufacturer, aware of the problem, released a reinforced assembly, but time will tell how reliable it will be, since a car with such a clutch has very little mileage to say that it is truly reliable. But, the fact that the node began to work more stable is a fact - up to 10,000 km of run, jerks are not observed and this is already progress. A less significant problem with the gearbox is slow gear shifting, especially when shifting from first to second and from second to third gear. However, AvtoVAZ engineers promise to solve this problem as well - an updated version of the unit (2.0) is expected to be released, in which the gear shift time is reduced by 30%. Time will tell how it will be, but there is a fear that such an improvement will provoke more accelerated clutch wear.

— Less significant disadvantages —

Among other shortcomings, an uncomfortable pedal assembly can be noted. Many owners note that it is perceived as rather cramped in the area of the gas and brake pedals. There are also complaints about visibility due to the wide front pillars, but in fairness I would like to say that this drawback is inherent in many modern cars of European and Asian production, since this design has a positive effect on the safety of the driver and passengers. Despite the fact that Lada XRAY positions and looks like a comfortable family car, there is not as much interior space as we would like. And if in principle there is enough space for the driver and front passenger, then there is frankly little of it in the gallery.

Cons of Lada XRAY, according to the owners:
  • Poor quality of finishing materials: rag and oak plastic
  • There is no way to turn off the ESP, which chokes the engine when driving through mud or snow
  • Cabin deflectors do not work correctly: they blow in the wrong direction
  • Sailing on the track
  • No armrest
  • Flimsy raised floor in the trunk
  • Single level seat heating
  • short passes
  • Steering wheel not adjustable

Outcome:

Summing up, I would like to say that in general the car is not bad, which is confirmed not only by sales statistics, but also by the number of positive reviews from owners. But until the Lada XRAY has an alternative to mechanics and a single-clutch robot, the model will continue to scare away potential buyers who prefer a classic automatic or CVT available from competitors.

Sincerely, the editors of AutoAvenue

XRAY, like most concepts, has received a lot of positive feedback in various media, so its success in the sales market would not be particularly surprising. What else is needed to give Lada sales a powerful impetus, if not a bright crossover with a stylish design. Especially in the eyes of young drivers. However, everything was not so rosy.

Chassis allow you not to worry about breakdowns from gravel, because their excellent energy intensity allows you not to be afraid of pits

Immediately after the model was released, a wave of criticism fell upon it, since the design of the presented model was quite different from the previously promised prototype.

The car has practically lost the swiftness and weightlessness of the overall image. Although, if we compare XRAY with a competitor-sample from Renault - Sandero, then the Russian development does not look so mediocre. The red coloring of the car definitely suits her.

Nice but a bit uncomfortable

At the initial acquaintance, the salon evokes only positive emotions. Here and climate control with a screen, and a multifunctional steering wheel with a comfortable grip, and upholstery at the seats is made with a special taste.

But if you sit inside for a bit, you quickly realize that XRAY has a lot to strive for in terms of ergonomics: there is nowhere to stick the driver’s smartphone, the chairs copied from Sandero are somewhat uncomfortable (at least they were better at the same Vesta), and makeup mirrors were worth would be mounted immediately in both visors.

There are annoying pecks during shifting, and unexpected hitches ... Compared to predictable and smooth hydromechanical automatic machines, the AMT transmission seems completely monstrous. She is able to infuriate even balanced drivers very quickly with her jerks and delays.

Also, a certain inconvenience is caused by the fact that the car does not move after a short parking lot when you release the brake pedal. XRAY will go exclusively after pressing the accelerator, and this is very depressing in traffic jams.

The driver's seat resembles a stool with its missing normal lateral support and shortened seat cushion
There is not enough space at the back, however, in this segment this is rather the norm, not a disadvantage

Disappointing in traffic jams and on asphalt, happy off-road

Upsets and smoothness. The car picks up almost all the little things on the road, and on significant bumps it bounces at all. However, there are no unpleasant questions about the energy intensity of the suspension, since breakdowns still do not reach.

On the steering wheel, the beating is also felt, so that even a short drive on poor-quality asphalt is very exhausting for the driver. It would seem that such shaking should be compensated by filigree handling, but alas, ah. In turns, the model is completely unsophisticated, it does not at all please with feedback, and it turns into an arc with pronounced reluctance.

On the AMT climbs, the XRAY heats up quickly, so you can’t storm the hills

Here, outside the asphalt, the crossover moves quite confidently, as it saves good geometric cross-country ability (as much as 195 mm of minimum ground clearance) and excellent engine torque at low revs. The slope control system will also be useful.

The test model is from the launch batch, which means that ESP cannot be turned off, and in the mud this option is definitely not enough. However, already this fall, the designers made some changes to the XRAY design, for example, they installed the ESP shutdown key. Such a quick response to the wishes of customers is definitely captivating.

Now available and mechanics

Many should also be pleased that the XRAY, with its potentially good 1.8-liter engine, is now available with both a robotic gearbox and a manual one. This option promises to be the most balanced in this range. Who knows, maybe sales will respond positively to such a modification?
