The old Mercedes-Benz GLK was a good car. But it looked outdated. The design of the new Mercedes GLC is right on target. This goal is clearly formulated by Gorden Wagener, the chief designer of the Daimler concern: from now on, Mercedes-Benz SUVs should become the embodiment of the idea of modern luxury and be more sporty. In other words, current and future crossovers with a three-pointed star on the radiator grille, both outside and inside, should be closer to cars of the corresponding class, not inferior to the latter, at least in terms of comfort - and when driving on any surface.

In order to attract potential buyers to the idea of luxury and sportiness presented above, marketing specialists from Stuttgart are pushing forward the so-called crossover coupes - the Mercedes GLE Coupe and GLC Coupe (still a concept). Nevertheless, it is clear to everyone that SUVs with traditional universal bodies will be in great demand. And the new Mercedes-Benz GLC, almost certainly, is destined for the role of a bestseller. It may become not only the most popular premium SUV, but also the best-selling vehicle in the premium segment as a whole. Apparently, the hope for a bright future explains the design features of this novelty.

Invisibility phenomenon

In my opinion, the overall shape and proportions of the Mercedes GLC remained similar to its predecessor, although it differs from it in size. In all other respects, the GLC most of all resembles the C-Class wagon (S 205) - visually elongated vertically and in width, but reduced in length. That's just every detail in the guise of a crossover, in my opinion, is made more carefully and, if you like, neatly - take, for example, the sidewall of the body or narrow taillights. As a result, the GLC crossover looks very modest and even seems inconspicuous.

I believe that these qualities are built into the design absolutely consciously. When you're dealing with a truly massive car, you have to be careful. By making the design too bright, you can lie down not only for fans, but also increase the number of opponents. Moreover, for most consumers, convenience and comfort are much more important than appearance. Think about the Toyota phenomenon: it seems to be nothing special, but cars are bought in huge quantities. In addition, this design has an additional advantage - it is non-conflicting and therefore fits perfectly into any environment - from a wide variety of buildings in megacities to mountain and sea landscapes. Plus, it's a durable design.

More is better

With the convenience and comfort of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, everything is in order. At least for the corresponding class. The main drawback of the previous crossover was the tightness of the rear seats. The designers coped with this problem, first of all, by increasing the wheelbase of the car to 2873 mm (+ 118 mm compared to the GLK and even + 33 mm compared to the C-Class station wagon). A noteworthy fact: the GLC crossover received the central section of the body with the floor from the future E-Class Saloon. Thus, there is reason to believe that these cars will be the same in terms of interior space. Either way, the space between the front seatbacks and the front edge of the rear seat cushion on the GLC has grown by 57mm compared to the GLK.

Compared to the GLK, the overall dimensions of the machine have also increased. The length of the GLC crossover reaches 4759 mm (+ 120 mm), the width is 1890 mm (+ 50 mm), its height is 1639 mm. The Mercedes-Benz GLC Crossover is also 80 mm wider than the C-Class Estate and 57 mm longer. The front wheel track of the GLC model is 1681 mm (+ 47 mm to the GLK), and the rear wheels are 1617 mm (+ 20 mm). The Germans are very proud of the fact that by increasing the width of the car by only 50 mm, they managed to increase the interior space by up to 57 mm - due to the layout and geometry of the seats.

The external dimensions of the crossover Mercedes-Benz GLC

Speaking of seats. The front seats on the GLC model are exactly the same as those on the C-Class, only they are mounted higher, which causes the wheel rim to overlap the instrument panel in a different way. The rear seat is strongly reminiscent of the station wagon classmate seat. The back is divided into three parts (40/20/40). They are folded electrically, the control buttons of which can be found not only in the trunk, but also in the cabin.

Yes, there are seats! The entire interior of the crossover is in fact an exact copy of the interior of the C-Class, from its "Italian style", the richness of the materials, to the multimedia system (with a screen that is installed above the three air vents), touch panel and head-up display.

If we continue the theme of the trunk, it is worth noting that it has also become much more spacious. The capacity of the luggage compartment of the Mercedes-Benz GLC crossover has increased to 550 liters (+ 80 liters to GLK), and with the rear seat folded down - up to 1600 liters (+ 50 liters to GLK). The maximum length has grown to 930 mm (+ 40 mm) and the maximum width to 1389 mm (+ 128 mm). In addition, the Mercedes GLC is equipped with a contactless access to the trunk, which allows you to open its lid automatically - when you put your foot under the rear bumper. However, such systems are becoming more and more common on cars of other brands. But not all competitors can squat in order to reduce the loading height. And in its class, the GLC crossover, perhaps, has no rivals at all who can do such a trick. True, the GLC will only succeed if the AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension is installed on the car.

Eat quieter...

The new Mercedes SUV has become more comfortable not only due to the increase in body size, but also due to changes in its design. Despite the reduction in weight (by 50 kg), the body of the GLC crossover has become stronger and stiffer, which has a positive impact not only on emergency safety and vehicle dynamics, but also led to a decrease in noise and vibration levels. After all, the high rigidity of the body forms the basis for optimal adjustment of the supporting elements of the suspension and transmission.

Of course, Mercedes-Benz specialists also dealt with aerodynamic noise - paying attention to the streamlining of the car, as well as sealing glass and doors. To evaluate the result of their work, it is enough to state the fact: the aerodynamic noise index WI (a dimensionless value that characterizes the quality of aeroacoustics) is at the same high level for the GLC crossover as for the E-Class cars.

In addition, the volume of soundproofing materials, primarily in the area of the motor shield, has increased by a third .... The result is the quietest car in the class - so silent that hearing the engine becomes a problem. I foresee some objections about the need to hear the sound of the motor. But here you either accept the values of the brand, or you don’t…. By the way, everything is in order with safety requirements - pedestrians will hear your engine. The motor is inaudible only inside.

humble four The set of power units that are offered for the Mercedes GLC is surprisingly small. If my memory serves me right, then, for example, at the time of the launch of the current E-Class sedan, the company announced about twelve models. Today we are talking about four options for power plants (it's time to get used to this term) or five - it depends on how you count.

The base model is the GLC 220 d 4MATIC. It is powered by a 2143 cc four-cylinder diesel engine. cm, which develops a power of 125 kW (170 hp) at 3000 - 4200 rpm and a torque of 400 Nm in the range from 1400 to 2800 rpm. This engine is aggregated with a nine-speed automatic transmission 9G-TRONIC (with torque converter).

Like all other versions, the transmission of the Mercedes-Benz GLC 220 d 4MATIC is all-wheel drive. The torque between the front and rear axles is divided in a percentage ratio of 45:55. The center differential has a multi-plate clutch.

Such a car has a curb weight of 1845 kg (80 kg less than a similar version of the GLK crossover), and as a result, it is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.3 seconds, and also reach speeds of up to 210 km / h. Combined fuel consumption is 5.0 – 5.5 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are between 129 and 143 g/km. Interestingly, it is this modification that some observers are predicting the most successful future even now. Apparently, due to the combination of a diesel engine and a relatively low price. At the moment, in Russia, a Mercedes-Benz GLC 220 d 4MATIC car in the “Special Series” configuration costs 2 million 920 thousand rubles.

The model, which is located in the next line, in the same configuration costs 70 thousand rubles more. We are talking about the crossover Mercedes-Benz GLC 250 d 4MATIC. This car is equipped with the same power unit as the previous version, however, its diesel engine has been boosted to 150 kW (204 hp), at 3800 rpm, and 500 Nm (1600 - 1800 rpm). As a result, the dynamics improved (7.6 seconds to "hundreds") and the maximum speed increased (222 km / h). But the amount of fuel consumption remained the same. Probably, for a slight improvement in dynamics, you have to pay extra for the previously named amount. But at the same time, the first version of the diesel engine is more elastic.

Next comes the petrol model Mercedes-Benz GLC 250 4MATIC. The turbocharged engine of such a car (also four-cylinder) has a working volume of 1991 cubic meters. cm and develops a power of 155 kW (211 hp), at 5500 rpm, and a torque of 350 Nm, in the range from 1200 to 4000 rpm. As well as diesel engines, it is equipped with automatic transmission 9G-TRONIC. One of the advantages of this car is its lower weight - 1735 kg (this is 110 kg less than that of diesel cars), which promises, if not an increase in acceleration dynamics, then an improvement in handling. In fact, the acceleration time to 100 km / h and the speed of this crossover are exactly the same as those of a powerful diesel - 7.6 seconds and 222 km / h. In a diesel unit, the difference in weight is compensated by an impressive torque. But the control hasn't gone anywhere. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 6.5 - 7.1 l / 100 km. Carbon dioxide emissions: 152 – 166 g/km. But the GLC 250 4MATIC is cheaper. In Russia, in the “Special Series” configuration, they ask for 2 million 850 thousand rubles for this crossover, and 2 million 590 thousand rubles for the basic version.

The cost of another version of the SUV has been announced on our market. We are talking about the GLC 300 4MATIC gasoline model, the price of which in the Special Series configuration is 2 million 990 thousand rubles. In addition to the price, only engine power is known - 245 hp. This refers to the same as in the previous case, but a forced two-liter engine. And that's it. There is no information about such a car on the German site either. But they are already ordering...

Technique and tactics

But the hybrid rechargeable crossover GLC 350 e 4MATIC is not represented on the Russian market! Nevertheless, it seems to me that it makes sense to briefly talk about it - in order to understand what we are deprived of, or, on the contrary, what we are spared from.

This car's powertrain is based on the same gasoline engine used in the GLC 250 4MATIC. It is complemented by an electric motor that develops 85 kW (116 hp) and 340 Nm of torque. As a result, the total output of the hybrid powertrain can reach 240 kW (327 hp), while its maximum total torque is 560 Nm.

This power-to-weight ratio leads to excellent acceleration dynamics. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 350 e 4MATIC is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds. And its maximum speed is 235 km / h. Taking into account the fact that on one electric traction this car is able to travel a distance of 34 km, its fuel consumption is 2.6 l / 100 km.

Agree, these numbers look just great. And if you compare it with the GLK 350 4MATIC model, which, according to the manufacturer, the hybrid crossover is intended to replace, you will want to sing with happiness. Judge for yourself: power increased by 4.6%, torque - more than one and a half times (by 51.4%), acceleration time to 100 km / h decreased by 9.2%, and fuel consumption - by as much as 70%.

However, when you remember that a full battery charge is only enough for 34 km, you understand that these “total” and “total” values are far from always available. And the military abbreviation TTX comes to mind - performance characteristics. After all, driving a rechargeable hybrid car can turn into a difficult intellectual game.

No wonder the GLC 350 e 4MATIC crossover has four operating modes that are available with two driving algorithms (“Eco” and “Comfort”) of the DYNAMIC SELECT system: “Hybrid”, “E-mode”, “E-saving”, as well as “Charging ".

The first option can be considered regular. In this mode, both engines, as well as the brake energy regeneration system, are activated automatically in order to reduce fuel consumption. The second is intended for movement only on electric traction. Indeed, in the central part of some European cities and even in a number of villages in our time, you can get through only in this way. The third and fourth modes are the reverse of the second. They save (or accumulate) battery energy in case you need to move exclusively on electric traction.

Mercedes-Benz GLC 350 e 4MATIC Edition 1, X 253, AMG Line

Driving modes are selected by the driver. Various systems that the hybrid SUV is equipped with help to comply with them. I will list at least the names: “Quiet start”, “Fast and Furious”, “Energy recovery” and, finally, “Sensitive gas pedal”. Add to all this Intelligent HYBRID - a drive management strategy that takes into account the nature of the route and the traffic situation in order to achieve maximum economy, and you will understand at what cost the declared figures are given.

And if you don’t bother with all this, then the GLC 350 e 4MATIC will turn into an ordinary gasoline car, moreover, it is 290 kg heavier. However, the extra three centners already have a negative impact on handling. Yes, and the trunk has decreased to 350 liters (1450 liters with the rear seats folded down). Just think: plus almost three hundred kilograms of weight and minus 200 liters of usable space - all this in order to drive 34 km!

However, the hybrid car can also be seen as a sacrifice made on the altar of ecology in order to be able to release next year a version of the crossover with a powerful six-cylinder diesel engine, as well as the GLC 450 AMG model with a 367-horsepower V6 twin-charged petrol. If officials track the "average temperature in the hospital", then they get it ....

C-class plus

I have already noted that in terms of size, comfort level and technical equipment, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC crossover is probably closer to the upcoming E-Class (W 213 series) than to the cars (sedan as well as station wagon) of the current C-Class ( series W 205).

So, in addition to the central body module, which the crossover received from the E-Class, it borrowed the front module from its older brother, along with a new four-link suspension that replaced the previous McPherson struts that were used on the GLK crossover.

But the rear subframe and suspension had to be developed original. And although the scheme is used here for a long time, a five-lever, new layout solutions have made it possible to increase the volume of the trunk, as well as place the battery of the previously mentioned hybrid version with minimal space loss. Although I have little doubt that the solutions that were found during the development of the GLC crossover will also be used when changing generations of the GLE SUV.

One of these solutions, for sure, will be the AIR BODY CONTROL pneumatic multi-chamber suspension.

crossover plus

In fact, in the basic version, a quite ordinary suspension is installed on the Mercedes-Benz GLC - with steel springs, shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars. But it is also offered in three versions. The first is, in fact, the standard version or the “luxury suspension”. In the case of its use, the minimum ground clearance is 181 mm. The second suspension is sports. It is more rigid and is offered either as a separate option or together with the AMG Line Exterior. The third suspension option is installed together with the Offroad Line. At the same time, the ground clearance increases to 202 mm. By the way, this suspension is the base (and only) for the GLC 350 e 4MATIC.

Approximately the same logic is embedded in the operation of the Air Body Control system - a fully pneumatic multi-chamber suspension, which is complemented by shock absorbers with the ADS Plus stepless control system. Such a suspension is controlled using the Dynamic Select dynamic performance control system. Simply put, the Air Body Control system combines all three spring suspensions into one. Moreover, its possibilities are much wider.

Structural diagram of multi-chamber air suspension struts

In particular, if the driver selects the "Sport +" mode, then the pneumatic elastic elements become stiffer, and the ride height is reduced by 20 mm from the base value. On the contrary, with the Offroad package and the “Swing” mode turned on, the body rises to the maximum height. And the clearance in this case reaches 227 mm. In addition, as I have already noted, the car can squat to make it easier to load things into the luggage compartment.

The stiffness of the air suspension is adjusted by connecting or disconnecting the cameras. The Mercedes-Benz GLC has two of them in front and three in the back. In particular, in comfort mode, the air volume is fully utilized, while in sport mode, only the main cameras remain in operation.

It should be noted that the Dynamic Select system is quite organically combined with the off-road package Offroad. In the case of their combination, an “extension” in the form of additional algorithms is added to the previously familiar five driving modes (“Eco”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport +” and “Individual”). This number includes the following modes: "Off-road", "Rise", "Swing", "Ice", plus "Trailer".

In addition, the Offroad package includes Hill Descent Control and, of course, underbody protection made from durable Gemtex material.

But I would like to mention one more technology that can be useful, including when driving off-road. We are talking about a surround view camera capable of displaying a car from a wide variety of angles - in particular, demonstrating obstacles that are out of the driver's field of view - for example, below the waistline of the car.

As you can see, Mercedes-Benz not only raised the GLC crossover's off-road capabilities to a higher level, but also made it easier to drive this car, making it comfortable in the most difficult conditions. No wonder they like to say in Stuttgart: "If the car looks like a sports utility vehicle, then it should be so."

The West German automobile concern Dreimler-Benz organized a presentation of a new Mercedes glk model at the New York Auto Show in the spring of 2012, which received serial number X204 and is designed to significantly increase the number of sales of cars of this model. Mercedes glk 2014 model year is already in the top 3 best SUVs - crossovers.

The appearance of this car is directly related to the continuation of the successful version of 2008, which leads in sales in Europe and Russia, overtaking its competitors Audi Q5, Infiniti EX and BMW X3.

Vehicle technical parameters

Restyling somewhat changed the exterior of the car compared to the previous modification, giving it severity and confidence. Linear dimensions have also been corrected:

  • length - 4536 mm,
  • width - 1840 mm,
  • height - 1669 mm,
  • wheelbase - 2755 mm.

At the same time, the clearance is 210 mm, the car is able to force a 30-centimeter water barrier, overcome a 23-degree rise and continue moving from a 25-degree slope.

The volume of the luggage compartment is easily transformed and is directly related to the position of the aft seats. Depending on this, it is 450-1550 liters. Model weight 1960 kg.

When ordering a Mercedes Benz glk through regular dealers of the company, body colors are offered from 3 types of non-metallic paints: Polar White, Black and Red (Fire Opal) and 9 types of metallic paints of different colors: Obsidian Black, Iridium Silver, Diamond Silver, Palladium Silver , Gray Luzonite, Gray Tenorite, Blue Cavansite, White Diamond and Brown Cuprite.

The choice of alloy wheels for mercedes benz glk is also huge, as there are as many as 14 design options and 3 wheel diameter options - R17, R19, R20. The range of rubber is also impressive, while the tires may differ in width for the front and rear axles: 235/50 R19, 235/45 R20, 235/60 R17.

Engines for Mercedes glk

The design bureau of the West German automobile concern has presented a new range of engines for the mercedes benz glk klasse 2013, equipped with a Start-Stop system.

On the European market, the car is presented in seven engine modifications, and 6 of them run on diesel fuel, and one unit runs on gasoline. In Russia, the Mercedes GLC is available with a pair of diesel and two petrol engines.

Diesel engines:

  • GLK 220 CDI Blue Efficiency - 170 - a strong engine accelerates the car to the first hundred in 8.8 seconds. The maximum speed does not exceed 205 km / h. The dagregat consumes an average of 6.1-6.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
  • GLK 250 - 204 - a strong engine provides dynamics up to 100 km / h in 8.0 seconds. The motor is able to accelerate the car to a maximum speed of 210 km / h, fuel consumption in mixed mode is 6.5 -7.0 liters.

Petrol engines:

  • GLK 300 - 250 strong engine accelerates the model to "hundreds" in 7.5 seconds. And it burns 8.2-8.6 liters of gasoline in combined mode.
  • The upgraded GLK 350 - 306 strong unit (previously produced only 272 hp) accelerates the car to 100 km / h in 6.5 seconds. and reaches a maximum speed of 238 km/h. The average fuel consumption in the "city - highway" mode will show 8.6-9.0 liters. gasoline.

Transmission, drive, suspension and the rest of the technical part of the car

Dealers in Russia will offer only the all-wheel drive version of 4MATIC with a 7-speed gearbox - 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic and adjustable-type electric power steering.

Of particular interest is the 7-speed "automatic", which has the following advantages:

  • By increasing the difference in gear ratios between the lowest and highest speed steps (seven forward gears), the comfort of movement is increased, without jerks and twitches.
  • The adjusted number of engine revolutions allows to reduce fuel consumption and makes the automatic transmission work in a smooth mode when changing gears.
  • Thanks to the reverse shifting with several steps jumping, there is a serious reserve of power and it becomes possible to carry out fast intermediate accelerations.
  • The updated generation of torque converters is more reliable in operation, has a lower noise threshold, and responds faster to driver actions.
  • The "Start-stop ECO" function, which stops the engine during temporary stops in traffic jams and at intersections, significantly reduces fuel consumption.
  • The selective mode of operation of the transmission system when choosing: "E" economical, "S" - sports and "M" - manual, which, in combination with other parameters, will allow for the correct operation of the automatic transmission.

The 4MATIC all-wheel drive device, which is equipped with mercedes benz glk, qualifies as one of the most successful complexes of this type in the entire model range of cars of this West German automobile concern. Traction force and torque are redistributed as needed, while the quality of the road value is not of decisive importance. In addition, the adhesion of the wheels to the roadway receives additional reinforcement, the car does not throw to the sides, the possibility of maneuvering increases and the safety of passengers increases when the car is moving.

Such interaction could only be achieved through the full integration of the ESP stabilizing complex on electronic sensors, the ASR counter-slip system and the 4ETS engine traction control complex into the overall electronic circuit of the vehicle's on-board computer.

The new version of the mercedes benz glk class also uses the S204 base of the C-class station wagon. The front suspension is a three-link independent type, the rear one is an independent multi-link device. Gas-filled shock absorbers are equipped with an updated shock mitigation system that changes the vibration amplitude of the product depending on the quality of the road surface, which actively affects the operation of the entire suspension.

Options and prices Mercedes glk

In the basic configuration, the updated Mercedes JLC is offered with the following options:

  • climate control divided into 2 zones,
  • front seats with electric heating and electric height adjustment of the cushion and backrest,

  • The Lane Departure Warning System, which signals the driver with a slight vibration of the steering wheel.
  • The system of control of "dead zones", is necessary when changing lanes by car. It allows you to control hard-to-view areas on the left, right and rear of the car and thereby avoid dangerous moments.
  • Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) improves safety in emergency braking situations.
  • The system that determines the degree of driver fatigue (ATTENTION ASSIST) recognizes the growing signs of human fatigue and gives him all kinds of signals, the option is especially relevant when overcoming long distances.
  • The child seat identifier on the front passenger seat will automatically deactivate the frontal airbag and an indicator light will appear on the panel.
  • Hill Descent Speed Control (DSR) makes it easy for the driver to drive down steep hills.
  • The Emergency Brake Assist (BAS) can protect you in the event of an imminent crash by applying maximum braking force.

  • The speed limit control system recognizes the speed limits on road signs and displays them on the central display, thereby warning the driver.
  • The outdoor lighting control system (Intelligent Light System) is able to provide excellent visibility in any weather and under a variety of road conditions.
  • The Predictive Emergency Braking System (BAS PLUS) helps you avoid a collision with the vehicle in front, or at least reduce the speed of the collision.
  • The preventive safety system (PRE-SAFE) recognizes critical situations in advance and, if necessary, activates all kinds of safety systems in advance, and this can significantly reduce the risk of injury to passengers and the driver himself in an accident.

As for the cost of the car, we suggest that you consider a table that displays the price of a Mercedes glk for existing trim levels in the Russian market.

The presentation of the updated Mercedes-Benz GLK crossover took place simultaneously with the test of the restyled G-Class SUV. So Mercedes are trying to show that the GLK is a worthy member of their off-road family, and not just another premium SUV. However, now there is a certain amount of slyness in this statement, because during the update the crossover has become much closer to the asphalt.

At the time of its introduction to the market in 2009, the GLK really claimed the title of the most “off-road” crossover among its premium counterparts. It had almost 20 cm ground clearance, permanent all-wheel drive with a 45:55 percent power distribution in favor of the rear axle, as well as an optional "off-road" package with bottom protection and a special control electronics algorithm. Now the base clearance has decreased by 20 millimeters - up to 177 millimeters. According to engineers, to improve handling and reduce fuel consumption, but in fact - because GLK owners rarely leave asphalt roads.

The situation with the ground clearance of the new Mercedes-Benz GLK turned out to be somewhat confusing. In official press materials, 177 millimeters of "base" clearance are valid for rear-wheel drive versions with a 2.2-liter diesel engine. At the same time, the data on the clearance of all-wheel drive modifications are indicated with the already installed Offroad Engineering package, which now includes a ground clearance increased by 30 millimeters.

This is 207 millimeters for diesel versions and 210 millimeters for a car with a petrol V6.

If we subtract from these figures the 30 millimeters that the off-road suspension adds, we get the same 177 millimeters for a diesel and 180 millimeters for a gasoline car. However, in the official documents of Mercedes-Benz, for some reason, such indicators are not indicated anywhere.

The Offroad Engineering package now includes a 30mm increase in ground clearance, additional underbody protection with reinforced plastic, a downhill slope assistance system with adjustable downhill speed, as well as an off-road algorithm for the operation of the ABS, stabilization system, gearbox and electronic gas pedal, which is activated by a button on the center console. For cars with adaptive head light, you can order an “off-road” lighting system, when at speeds up to 50 kilometers per hour, the electronics make the low beam a little wider and brighter.

By and large, all the work on the chassis in the restyled GLK was reduced to an easy upgrade of the suspensions. Due to the changed kinematics, springs and shock absorbers were re-calibrated on all versions, but no “mechatronics” are still provided for the Mercedes-Benz crossover chassis: only pure mechanics and hydraulics of self-adjusting shock absorbers that change their stiffness only by changing the cross section of the bypass valve in stock.

Sales of premium crossovers in 2011

The line of motors has been updated slightly. The petrol 3.5-liter “six”, popular in Russia, is new, equipped with direct fuel injection. It will be available in our market in two boost options: 306 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque (GLK 350), and 250 horsepower (350 Nm), which will replace the three-liter V6 on the GLK 300 version. Diesels will not be offered to Russians yet , but in Europe there will be four of them: three variants of a 2.1-liter engine with a capacity of 143, 170 and 204 forces, and a diesel V6 with a capacity of 265 forces, which develops 620 Nm of torque. We will not have basic rear-wheel drive modifications of the GLK either.

The updated GLK is now equipped with an electromechanical power steering - like the platform Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This design saves fuel a little better, tells the driver where to turn the steering wheel in the event of a slip, and independently - by micro-turns of the wheels - corrects the trajectory while driving or braking on unstable surfaces.

What are other news?

First of all, design. The appearance of the updated GLK now has fewer chopped edges that slightly make it similar to the original Gelandewagen, but even more chrome: shiny grille trims and bumper covers, chrome trim of LED foglights. The headlights have become more rounded, and the “streaks” in their corners are even more expressive.

“The previous GLK divided potential buyers into two camps: some definitely liked its rough, chopped design, and others definitely didn’t like it,” Mattias Sobota, product manager of the GLK project, explained over dinner. – By developing an updated crossover, we tried to blur the line between these groups of customers. His appearance is now more versatile, but at the same time, it seems to us, no less expressive.

Sobota may be right, but the Mercedes-Benz GLK has less charisma now, and it looks best from a ¾ rear view, where its angularity is still clearly visible.

But restyling only benefited the salon. Here, at first glance, not a single old detail remains at all: a new steering wheel, a tidy from an updated C-Class with a color screen in the center of the speedometer, a large LCD display of the navigation system, expensive, very high-quality finishing materials and ... not a single flat plane, not a single sharp edge! Even the ventilation system deflectors were changed to round ones with aluminum trim - like on the SLK and SL roadsters.

    Available for the GLK as a classic "Mercedes" finish in lacquered brown wood...

    And more stylish options with black veneer and light beige leather on the seats.

    The display in the center of the dashboard has a high resolution and can display almost any information about the car, including navigation system prompts.

    Round ventilation system deflectors - like SLK and SL.

    "Off-road" buttons are separated from the rest by protruding ribs. Probably to avoid accidental clicks.

    Completely brown interior trim - with brown plastic and chocolate-colored leather - for an amateur. Although it looks very rich.

The “automatic” selector moved from the central tunnel to the steering column, making room for cup holders and the joystick of the COMAND multimedia complex. The COMAND system itself on the GLK is also the latest, with voice control, Internet access and the ability to use online applications for reading news and Facebook, and even searching for free parking spaces.

On-board electronics, the restyled GLK is now unified with the C-Class family, which underwent an update last year. This means that now the crossover can be equipped with adaptive cruise control, an automatic parking system, as well as blind spot monitoring and lane control systems. Options include a surround view system implemented using security cameras.

How does the new GLK ride?

Comfortable as ever. Changes in the suspension did not affect the ride in any way: the GLK still smooths out any, even the most mediocre road surface, just as well. And along the mountain dirt road, which was part of the test route in the foothills of the Alps, the Mercedes-Benz crossover rushes with enviable equanimity. The power consumption of the chassis is excellent. GLK is not afraid of any throws or holes, elastically and almost silently swallowing most of the bumps.

With the off-road package, the crossover does not hesitate to storm rocky roads with difficult terrain: a ground clearance of 21 centimeters is enough almost everywhere if you drive “with your head”. There is only one drawback - the travel of the passenger, in fact, suspension is too small. Therefore, the rebound shock absorbers sometimes work a little harshly, and on large pits the wheels hang early in the air. However, the GLK is not afraid of diagonal hanging: crunching the brakes, it is able to crawl almost everywhere. Especially if it is shod in more or less "evil" tires.

The Offroad package will cost buyers 40 thousand rubles, and it does not seem to exclude the possibility of installing the AMG staling package, which includes new exterior elements and large rims (the total cost of the exterior package is 100 thousand rubles), as well as AMG - finishing "salon for 58 thousand. What the GLK can do on a bad road can be seen in the video at the end of the article.

On the pavement - traditional for "Mercedes" softness in habits. The empty, light steering wheel responds to the actions of the driver with laziness, but in turns it becomes quite informative. Banks are small, but you don’t want to go really fast on the GLK even with the top-end 306-horsepower gasoline engine. His baritone, which is pleasant for observers from the outside, in the cabin, due to good sound insulation, sounds flat, the responses to the gas pedal seem to be slightly damped, the machine in the “drive” mode relaxes through the highest gears.

You can slightly cheer up the GLK by switching the transmission to the “sport” mode, but the nature of the crossover will not fundamentally change. The difference between a petrol and diesel car is much more noticeable: the GLK 220 CDI with a 170-horsepower engine turns out to be a little denser in suspension, and in terms of assertiveness of acceleration in the medium speed zone, it does not lose at all to a more powerful V6 thanks to 400 Nm of torque, available already from 1400 rpm. minute. But the sound let us down - with active driving, its ugly rattling still makes its way through soundproof mats.

But there will be no diesel GLKs in Russia, right?

Until there is. Now available for order are crossovers with a petrol V6 with a capacity of 250 or 306 horsepower with an “automatic” in the “Special Series”. Moreover, the GLK 300 after restyling fell in price by 100 thousand rubles - from 1.99 to 1.89 million rubles. The top-end GLK 350, on the contrary, has risen in price by 10 thousand rubles: the buyer will have to pay 2.39 million rubles for a powerful engine and richer basic equipment. "Mercedes" comfort - free of charge.

It took place simultaneously with the test of the restyled G-Class SUV. So the Mercedes are trying to show that the GLK is a worthy member of their off-road family, and not just another premium SUV.

According to engineers, to improve handling and reduce fuel consumption, but in reality - because GLK owners rarely leave asphalt roads.

The line of motors has been updated slightly. The gasoline 3.5-liter "six", popular in Russia, is new, equipped with direct fuel injection. It will be available in our market in two boost options: 306 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque (GLK 350) and 250 horsepower (350 Nm), which will replace the three-liter V6 on the GLK 300 version. Diesel is offered to Russians in one variant - a volume of 2.2 liters, a power of 170 hp, but in Europe there will already be four of them: three options for a 2.2-liter engine with a capacity of 143, 170 and 204 forces, and a diesel V6 with a capacity of 265 forces, which develops 620 Nm of torque moment. We will not have basic rear-wheel drive modifications of the GLK either.

November 11th, 2015 Admin

Today, the crossover segment is one of the most intensively developing in the global automotive market. However, for a long time, auto giants did not dare to release their “small” (based on C-class cars) models in the premium sector of this segment, fearing that the public might not accept them.

BMW became a pioneer, releasing its compact luxury crossover X3 back in 2003. The machine immediately began to be in great demand, which prompted competitors to take action. Mercedes-Benz launched its alternative, the GLK, on the market only in 2008, but rather quickly beat off a lot of buyers from BMW, as the car turned out to be balanced and attractive to consumers. In 2012, the car was restyled, which immediately increased its global sales by 10%. Today we will tell you in detail about this machine, incl. and about its technical characteristics and complete sets.

Appearance Mercedes GLK

From the front, the car looks aggressive and sporty. First of all, one can single out a large false radiator grille with 2 horizontal bars and a large, visible from afar, company logo. Also noteworthy is the embossed bumper with an air intake in a chrome-plated edging of complex shape and strips of running lights integrated into it. The headlights are quite large, polygonal in shape, with LEDs.

The rear of the restyled car differs from the car produced before 2012 not as much as the front. However, the taillights are different, as is the bumper with a shiny metal trim, along the edges of which are elongated chrome-plated exhaust pipes.

The overall dimensions of the Mercedes SUV are as follows: 4.536 m in length, 1.84 m wide, height reaches 1.669 m., and the wheelbase was distributed on 2.775 m Ground clearance (clearance) is quite impressive - 21 cm.

It is extremely doubtful that someone will drive such a car off-road, but the geometric cross-country ability makes it possible to do this, since the exit angle reaches 23 °, and the entrance - 25 °. But water barriers on the GLK should not be forced, since its upper bar in this exercise is only 30 cm.

For those who want to customize the appearance of their car, more than 15 variations of the appearance of the wheels are offered. At the same time, on request, discs of several diameters are available - from 17 before 20 inches included.

Also, the client can choose between 12 body colors. In addition to the classic colors, there are several original shades available that will surely delight those who want to stand out in the stream.

In general, the appearance of the German crossover is carefully thought out and will appeal to the vast majority of potential buyers. At the same time, it is neither overly aggressive nor insipid, which is another component of the success of this car in the market, since a balanced exterior contributes to an increase in the popularity of the model.

Photo salon Mercedes GLK 2008 - 2014

The interior of the cabin has changed much more noticeably than the appearance of the car. The main innovations are some of the controls located differently. In particular, the car does not have the usual gear selector, instead of it there is a joystick located on the steering column. The four-spoke steering wheel became three-spoke, which gave it some touch of sportiness. The lower spoke is distinguished by its large width and metallic finish.

The dashboard has not changed much: the information is still easy to read, since the instruments are located in the "wells", which eliminates glare.

Air ducts can be safely called a real work of art. Few cars can boast such an elegant design of this interior element.

The center console has remained the same - the almost 6-inch display of the multimedia system and the buttons below it have not changed their location, as well as the climate control controls. Naturally, for a car of this class, a variety of finishes are offered - from wood inserts to aluminum elements in the interior.

Noise isolation, as always with a Mercedes, is at its best - neither the engine nor other noises from the outside are almost inaudible.

The front seats are electrically adjustable and heated. Besides. the settings can be fixed, and the seat will adapt to the driver, as soon as he presses the button. Thoughtful seat profile and good lateral support make them even more comfortable.

The rear sofa is also very comfortable. 3 adults can easily sit on it, and thanks to the adjustments, they can also customize the seat for themselves. Of course, the range is much more modest than that of the front seats, but it is quite enough for comfortable placement.

Alas, for the comfort of the rear passengers had to sacrifice the trunk. Its volume is rather small by the standards of the class: only 450 liters. If you fold the seats, then this figure will increase to 1550 liters.

Specifications Mercedes GLK 2008 - 2014

As mentioned above, the GLK is based on the C-class platform, which predetermined the size of the car and the design of its chassis. The suspension of the car, both front and rear, is independent. The only difference is in the layout: in front it is an ordinary McPherson, and in the back it is a multi-link.

Of course, the suspension of this car is able to change its settings in a certain mode, depending on the choice of the driver through the on-board interface "COMAND", although it is not adaptive (everything happens due to "smart" hydraulic shock absorbers with variable stiffness by adjusting the cross section of the bypass valve located in the stem; there is no other electronics in the suspension).

As for the line of power plants, it is represented in Russia by 4 engines, half of which are diesel engines, and the other 2 run on gasoline.

Diesel engines

  • The “junior” diesel engine develops 170 hp, providing acceleration to “hundreds” in 8.8 s. and a top speed of 205 km/h. Fuel consumption - 6.5 l / 100 km. (comb).
  • The “senior” motor already generates 211 hp, which allows a car with this engine to accelerate to 100 km / h in 7.9 s. and develop a "maximum speed" of 215 km / h. Fuel consumption - 7.7 l / 100 km. (comb).

Both engines are in-line, 4-cylinder.

Gasoline engines

  • The first gasoline engine has a power of 250 hp, the acceleration time of the car with it to “hundreds” is 7.5 s, and the maximum speed is 238 km / h. Consumption - 8.6 l / 100 km. (comb).
  • The second engine has 306 hp and allows the car to reach speeds of 100 km/h. in 6.5 s. and accelerate to 238 km / h. Fuel consumption - 8.7 l / 100 km. (comb).

Both power plants are V-shaped, 6-cylinder.

The gearbox is one - automatic, with 7 steps, aggregated with all motors.

Mercedes GLK equipment and price

Already the basic list of equipment makes a solid impression. After all, it contains:

1) Full set of airbags (front and side);

2) On-board computer with standard multimedia and audio system;

3) Climate control for 2 zones;

4) Multifunction;

5) Parktronic front and rear;

6) Fully adjustable steering wheel;

7) Sensors for light, rain, tire pressure and volume (the latter is part of the anti-theft system);

8) Heated mirrors and seats;

9) Leather interior;

10) Regular central locking, immobilizer and alarm;

11) A system that makes it easier to start from a slope;

12) A collision avoidance system that automatically slows down when approaching an obstacle (if the driver does not respond) and much more.

Naturally, more expensive equipment is even better equipped, and at the same time there is always the opportunity to order additional options that can easily double the cost of the car.

In conclusion, I would like to say that this comfortable, harmonious and very attractive car from Mercedes already off the assembly line. It happened in the current 2015, and was replaced by the GLC crossover.

Therefore, if you want to purchase a Mercedes-Benz GLK, this can only be done in the secondary market. The average price range as of October-November 2015 is from 1 200 000 RUB 2,750,000. for a restyled version produced since 2012, and about 870 000 2 000 000 rub. for cars 2008-2012 release.
