Kia Spectra, produced from 2000 to 2004 in South Korea, and subsequently until 2011 in Russia, is just one of them: the car is simple enough that at least the owner could perform routine maintenance operations himself even without special skills.

We open the hood. The air filter box is located at the glass of the left (of course, in the direction of travel) pillar of the car.

The fastening at its cover is mixed - from the right edge, from above and below the cover is held by screws, from the side of the air pipe you can find a spring latch.

We unscrew the screws (with a head or a screwdriver), unfasten the latch, after which the cover can be moved to the side and up, without even disconnecting the pipe from it.

If the car is from the first years of production, then when moving the cover away, you should carefully look at the pipe - cracks that are invisible in the usual position will immediately appear in it under the influence of deformation, and often it is these cracks that cause incomprehensible floating idle speed. You need to look especially carefully inside the folds of the corrugation - this is where cracks begin to appear.

It is enough to simply remove the filter from the lower compartment of the box, nothing holds it there. All dust and debris falling from the filter curtain remains in this compartment, and they should be removed before installing a new filter - when shaking, this dust can be pulled into the new filter by air flow, and it makes no sense to pollute it.

The shape of the bottom of the air filter box is not the most convenient, but with a wet rag you can clean it quickly enough. If you have a compressor, you can also blow out the box, but you need to protect the open air duct from dust getting into it - for example, plug the pipe with a rag.

After that, it remains to put the new filter in place. During installation, the sealing collar should look upwards; before installing the cover, you need to check whether it got into the groove of the housing around the entire perimeter - otherwise, distortions and suction of uncleaned air may occur when the cover is tightened.

Pressing the cover tightly, we stretch the screws of its fastening - first the top one, then the bottom one, and finally the right ones. You should not apply much effort to the head - excessive tightening will not improve tightness, rather, on the contrary, it will deform the cover of the air filter compartment, which can also cause air to leak into the intake past the filter. The latch is put in place last.

• take a slotted screwdriver and disconnect the spring latch from the top of the VF case;
• then you can remove the upper plastic part of the VF case;
• the filter element itself opens up to your gaze. Remember its location in the case;
• then you can dismantle the engine cleaning component;
• if necessary, you can clean the filter housing from dirt and dust, otherwise installing a new filter element simply does not make sense;
• now we take a new filter and install it into the housing with the same side as the old one was installed. Attention! It is important not to confuse the parties;
• by replacing the filter element, you can assemble everything in the reverse order.
